Jaime (tiggerbell) started a game where she picked out women who wear bad shoes and men who choose the "What would Grandpa wear?"!!

Here's some pics from NYE at the MK!!!

Bad Shoes:

http://s384.photobucket.com/albums/oo284/shellyminnie28/th_100_0557.jpg
She's wearing capris with sandals and socks. Was a little weird for me!

Bad Clothes: "The Grandpa Outfits"

This didn't look too bad from a distance but when I got closer I realized he was wearing a green plaid not a blue plaid!

http://s384.photobucket.com/albums/oo284/shellyminnie28/th_100_0579.jpg

It looks like a solid color shirt but it actually had a small checkboard pattern that did not match the shorts at all!!

http://s384.photobucket.com/albums/oo284/shellyminnie28/th_100_0597.jpg

She matched but it was sure an interesting choice!!!
http://s384.photobucket.com/albums/oo284/shellyminnie28/th_100_0569.jpg

I don't know what it was but plaid must be the new "in" thing. I saw plaid shorts and pants on both men and women everywhere!!!. I just didn't get it!!! :confused3

There were many more that I saw but these were just a few of the ones I could get pics of.

I wish the pics were a little bigger. I love funny stuff like that. The high heels always crack me up.

I think this is mean spirited and a bit Junior High-ish...especially since some of the people's faces are pretty much visible.

Plaid (and patchwork) is not the new thing, it's been hot for several years around here. Not Grandpa like at all.

Many people on a WDW vacation go for shoe comfort... the socks and Keens shown with the capris, I say go for it!

The high heels... don't get it, but it is an impressive level of pain tolerance!

In my younger years i would certainly been on this thread. I don't dress up to go to Disney and since I don't really wear shorts at home (except for maybe the 3 days its hot enough in August!) I don't have much choice!

I also don't like the shorts pushed on girls my age (e.g. very short!) I don't have a terrible figure but i hate my legs and shorts are my nightmare!

So i feel kinda sorry for these people (except those in high heals, are you crazy women?!?) cause they aren't going to Disney to be judged, just have a good time!

Also Plaid (or as we call it tartan) is a MAJOR fashion trend in the UK at the moment, so they might just have some European chic! ;)

I agree that this is very mean-spirited and childish.

I love the carefree "dance like nobody is watching" aspect of going to Disney. It actually makes me sad to think there are people taking pictures of strangers with the intent to mock them online.

I'm surprised this thread is even allowed.

One of my favorite games to play at WDW is the "Looking at the silly shoe choices that women make" game. ;) I've seen more pairs of super high heels or really flat flip-flops! It makes my feet hurt just to see them! :confused3

Couple of clarifications (seeing as I introduced Shelly to these games) - Bad Shoe and Who Dressed Grandpa are just games to play when people watching... we aren't judging, we're just amused.

And "plaid" isn't the point of the pictures, it's when plaid is mixed with floral or stripes that it makes you look twice...

Like this... :goodvibes

I don't think this thread is mean spririted or childish. Faces/names aren't being revealed. Heck, even the podcast team talks about things that shouldn't be worn in the park (wife beaters/A frame undershirts, etc). This is a classic example that if you don't like the thread, don't read. I myself am always fascinated by the shoe choices people make to tour the parks in.

THank you Jaime!!!

I have been on these boards for over a year and was lurking a while before that. I have stayed on these boards - this board in particular because it has been very welcoming, very friendly, and very supportive until now. This is the first time I have ever been personally attacked for something I have posted. I was going to stay quiet but I feel I can't stay quiet any longer.

First of all, I am NOT a mean spirited person - far from it. Those who know me will tell you that I don't have a mean bone in my body. I actually try to go out of my way to do things for people especially my family and friends. I was made fun of quite a bit growing up so I know how it feels. That was not my intention at all!!!!!

I only mentioned the plaid because plaid is very hard to match. Anything other than a solid color doesn't match. I spent 12 years in private schools wearing a uniform - 7 of those years I wore a blue plaid jumper or skirt. To this day, I don't like to wear plaid!!! If other people want to wear plaid, they can. I don't care. This was just the first time that I noticed a lot of people wearing plaid - both men and women.

These few pictures I posted are the only pictures I took. I saw many, many more! I especially saw a lot of children wearing mix matching clothes but I didn't take any pictures of them because that would have been "mean-spirited." No offense Jaime! To me, the adults were fair game. I did go back and black and cropped out faces as I agree that I shouldn't have posted those with faces shown.

Again, my attention was to not judge or criticize but that's what I got in return.

I hope this helps clear things up.

Looks to me like a lady with a nice pair of legs is who tours Epcot in those. Probably not the smartest thing to wear in Epcot but they sure work on her IMHO. :)

I guarantee I will be one of those people who you look at and say, wow, he could he have dressed nicer. My wife is always griping at me about it. Lottsa' cotton and lottsa' pockets is my clothing of choice. Old Tshirts and Old shorts are great.

I never wear plaid though. I am also one of those people that have about 3 of the exact same type /color of shorts. Without exaggeration have 5 grey Polo T-shirts. Why you ask? Well they are comfortable and I like grey.

I am the bum in the family.

My wife and daughter are a different story. My wife and gymboree have a financial relationship (i.e. she spends of our finances at gymboree). My wife wont let my daughter out of the house unless she if perfectly matched and dressed.

I'm not trying to make out that you're mean, its just that for those with low self confidence anyway, the idea that I am being judged at the happiest place on earth kinda makes me feel sad.

I love going to Disney cause I don't have to dress up or worry what I wear. I already get judged by my peers on my looks (I don't do the 'teenager' dress style) and I hate the idea that i need to feel self concious on holiday too.

My version of this game is to try and find something good/ nice about the person or their looks rather than focus on the negative. Yes they may match stripes and plaid, but I wish my hair had that much bounce!

I think if the world focused on the positive rather than the negative, the world would be a much better place.

Sorry that's my penny worth!

I actually like to POSE for these pictures!

Me and my big ugly shoes, and my travel vest, and my dozen lanyards with 100 pins.

I'm certainly not one to pick out plaids/stripes together...HOWEVER, the heels make me laugh, because they look so painful, and showing too much skin (whether beautiful or less-than) makes me cringe.

I was leaving MK last month (I think it was MK) and noticed a well-dressed young lady wearing 3 inch spike heels. Now, my feet hurt after a day at WDW even when I wear my cushy hiking boots. I can't imagine spike heels.

i saw a tween wearing some of those at the mall last night---(it was 70 here)----scary! but i used to dress crazy too, so I can't really talk.

I can say i have always chosen sensible shoes for the parks.......I don't get the high heels......sure they look good, but I don't get how they walk all day long- truly impressive as someone else said.

I once saw a lady wearing white see through spandex leggings with a black thong under that everyone could see!

I would love to see your cakes - I wish I had a picture of one I made for Easter years ago - it was a bunny head. The cake itself was 2 carrot cake bundt cakes, placed one on top of the other to form a ball (the head). The center was filled in with pineapple pie filling, the ears were frosted twinkies, the mouth and eyes were drawn on with frosting, and the nose - aah, the nose... it was a Vicks cough drop.

The cake had 2 issues - 1) the runny nose: the Vicks cough drop mixed with the frosting and somehow started to melt... thus, my bunny had a runny, bloody nose. and 2) when they tried to cut the cake, the frosting, on the top covering the bundt cake hole, started to give way - at first it just bulged, but it eventually cracked, oozing pineapple down the side of the bunny's head. Looked like brains.

I suppose it's better there are no pictures - they would look like crime scene photos! But it really made me with at the time that I had used cherry pie filling! :lmao:

Cakewrecks is my favorite blog spot when I need a good laugh. Love it! I really need to get one of their save the apostrophes t-shirts since I am also a grammar nut.

It bothers me to include kids in the what not to wear. When I see a kid like the stripey/plaid one I think wow what cool parents. Life is too short to not let your kids wear what they pick out. By 5th grade they will be wanting the latest labels and be bound by fashion rules. Childhood is so brief these days. Let them live the carefree life while it lasts! I was at Costco and saw a 5yo boy in a superman costume and a batman mask shopping with his mom. Very cool mom IMO.

They make socks to go with crocs. Why not, indeed?

Crocs are already butt-ugly. There's no real way to make them uglier. Go for the ugly, I say. Make it a statement. The heck with whoever is looking.

I actually have a story that fits along this thread's topic. When my now-18 DD was 4, I used to let her dress herself. She came out of her room one day for school wearing a red plaid shirt and a pink plaid skirt. I stopped her... letting her dress herself apparently only went so far - she looked like a color-blind lumberjack!)

JAIME: Those don't match.

MEGGIE: They're both plaid.

JAIME: Yes, but they are 2 different colors, so they don't match - you match color, not pattern.

MEGGIE: Stephi [her 6 year old sister] said they matched.

JAIME: Stephi lied. Go change.

Also, when Meg was 10, they had Dress Up Day at school. For most kids, this entailed wearing their Sunday Church clothes. But not my daughter... :sad2:

She wore a pink, full-length, metallic Megera dress from the movie Hercules!

The principal made a point of coming over to me at the PTA meeting that night to tell me Meg made her day - she had just known Meg wouldn't disappoint!

They make socks to go with crocs. Why not, indeed?

Crocs are already butt-ugly. There's no real way to make them uglier. Go for the ugly, I say. Make it a statement. The heck with whoever is looking.

Can you tell I'm still in rebellion against my mother, whose favorite line is "You look ridiculous!"? Embrace the ridiculous, say I!

Here Here. I'll drink to that !!!

That's too funny.:lmao:

My DD is a little on the nutty side when it comes to fashion. When she was about 8 DH and I went away for a few days. We left DD with her grandparents. It was about 2 weeks before halloween. She somehow convinced them to let her wear her Sailor Moon costume to school...

She told her grandparents it was special person's day. :sad2: :lmao:

Come to think of it, I wear socks with capris and sneakers. However, any time I wear sneakers with shorts or capris, I wear the low-cut athletic socks that don't show.

And I refuse to wear Crocs. My feet are so huge, they make me look like a capital L.

There was a website called www.badshoe.com that was devoted to bad shoes at WDW. Don't know if it's still around.....

I love seeing the pictures!! It helps to refresh my memory of the 'sights' I saw on my last trip! But I have to admit, when I saw the blue shirt/floral pants I had to keep looking to see if you had other pics that may include my MOTHER!!

As for the cute heel pic - maybe she was just showing off her pedicured piggies? I wish I could walk around Epcot in shoes like that. If I could, I would!

But if I went to a park or something similar close to home, I definitely dress nicer! It's funny, cause I go to WDW not caring what I wear or look like - heck, I'm on vacation! But this thread sure makes me rethink the phrase "I'm never going to see these people again, so I don't care what I look like." You never know when someone is going to make it digital history!

Badshoe.com is run by a Diser! His name on here is Zurg and his wife is Zurgswife. They are also friends with Delswife who had some HILARIOUS posts on here a couple of years ago. My dh and I also take pics of crazy shoes at WDW. Good to know there are others just like us! :) Funny thing - I thought the very first picture on this thread was DH until I looked closer. :lmao:

I don't think this is mean-spirited. It's fun.

And it needs more pictures. Here are a couple from my camera:

Wait a minute - that's MY son! :rotfl2:

He was 12 years old when we were there. I took him shopping before our vacation and made sure he had SOLID colored shirts to go with his beloved plaid shorts. He also had solid colored shorts to go with his striped shirts. You know the old saying "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him have fashion sense." I commented on his outfits, but he just doesn't care. We were there for a week and these are the only 2 outfits he wore. He managed to not smell bad, so I let him wear what he wanted to wear. :rolleyes1

 for Shelly

I don't really notice clothing choices...unless they are just so ridiculous that they require comment...like cheeks or hanging out or something. But the shoes kill me. I don't care if you're wearing crocs with socks (I do!) but to wear high heels???

When DH and I got married, the night of our wedding we went to dinner in Epcot. Since it was kind of our "reception", we wanted to dress up. So we hauled back to the hotel and changed into our dressy clothes...we were joining some DISers on an Illuminations cruise after our dinner, so we parked over at the Yacht Club and took the boat to Epcot. I had on some really cute dress shoes with a low heel...just the little bit it took to walk from the boat to the restaurant in Italy, I thought I would die...right after dinner, we headed back to the Yacht Club to meet our friends and head out on the Illuminations cruise. I was never so happy to sit in one place for an extended period of time as I was then...:rotfl: After the cruise, the thought of walking back to the car in those shoes made me cringe. I think I walked barefoot...and moved really, really slow.

Now how on earth can a woman wear heels allllllllllllllllllllllllllll day at a theme park? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

They may be ugly, but at least my feet don't hurt nearly as bad in my crocs! :thumbsup2

Well, he did get a compliment on his kewl shorts from the young lady who was our server at the Grand Floridian Cafe. :thumbsup2 They were the shorts from the top picture.

Since I cropped the pictures, you didn't get to see the entire ensemble. Here's the hat that made the perfect accessory for either look:

He looks like he is wearing comfy clothes in my book.

As Rodney Dangerfield said, its called the "Regular Guy Look".

I am a person who wears capri's with crocs and socks.

:wave2: I wear sneakers and socks with my capri pants. I go for comfort, comfort, comfort in the parks. I wear my Nikes at all times while in WDW, well minus bedtime. :) I am actually a little envious of the ladies that can wear heels all day. I'm pretty tall so I've never owned heels until about a month ago and I must say walking in them is an entirely different experience than walking in flats or Nikes.
