View Full Version : The "Is It Just Me...?" thread

I won't lie--2008 was NOT a very good year for me for numerous reasons, and from what I've been told by several other people it was pretty much the consensus all around.

In hopes of having a much better 2009 I thought it might be kinda fun to start a thread called "Is it Just Me...?", which will enable everyone to get their negativity out in the open, in order to bring in some much-needed brighter upcoming months. It can be a way to ask questions you've been wanting to ask, or simply a way to ask something that you recently just noticed.

The only criteria I ask is that you begin each question you post with "Is it just me".
--The topics can be Disney-related or non-Disney-related. It's up to you.
--Anyone should feel free to respond to any questions that have been asked, especially if you... a.)Have an answer to the person's question, or b.)Feel the same as the person who posted the question.
--If you're going to post an answer or response to someone's question, please try to copy/paste the questions you're responding to.

That's it! It's probably a dumb idea, but I thought I'd give it a try. I'll start out with a Disney question....

Is it just me or does the new DVC resort (Bay Lake Towers) visually overpower the simplicity and nostalgia of the much-loved Contemporary Resort?

Yes, the BLT is pretty ugly! But it will bring in the cash, so in the "new Disney" this is good!

Is it just me or are people not as nice as they used to be. . .:confused3

I remember the days (yes, I know I am only 36 but . . .) when people would hold a door open if you were entering right behind them or help a person out if they were holding a 3 year old and their keys dropped to the floor. No more my friends !

It seems that everybody is "out for themselves" - it is annoying and I am trying my darndest to make sure my DD grows up with compassion.

Sorry, this reminded me of something funny.

The little girl I nanny will be 3 in about a week. The other day I was picking her up from preschool. Andrea, another mom from the class, dropped her keys on the floor. I said "Oh, can you pick up Miss Andrea's keys for her, please?" Little Miss Princess looked at me, stepped on Andrea's keys, and gave Andrea a high five in her outstretched hand. :rotfl2: I don't think Princess quite caught what I was asking her to do. I don't think she was trying to be rude, I think she was confused. ;)

It varies. Sometimes people see me with the stroller and hold the door. Other times they just keep walking. Which is fine, because I have been a nanny for 15 years so I can get through the door without help! I guess in general most people are decent, which makes the rude ones stand out more.

I didn't know you were a nanny. Chip's mom is a live in nanny in Boston. She works for a movie producer (very famous, but obviously not my place to say) and his wife and three kids (one older and a set of twins babies).

She loves what she does, plus the money and the "perks" are amazing (ie. flying around in a private jet).

Some of my friends are live-ins. I have always been a live-out. I like to be able to leave at the end of the day and actually go away, not just walk up the stairs or across the yard! :rotfl2:

None of the girls I know work for anybody famous. We all just work for plain people - accountants, attorneys, doctors. Some of my friends have worked for families with obscene amounts of money (names you would recognize, but their faces wouldn't be familiar if you saw them out at Target or whatever). I kind of like not having to worry about the security issues of a high profile family.

I love my job. My current employers are the absolute nicest people. I had 3 job offers on the table when I left my last job and I am SO GLAD I decided to accept this one. Princess is adorable and she makes me laugh. She thinks my DS12 is the greatest thing since sliced bread. She was really upset when I got to work on Monday and told her DS stayed home with DH. She loves it when he has breaks from school because he usually comes to work with me. My original plan was to be a social worker, but being a nanny suits me. :)

Is it just me, or has the price of Papa John's pizza gone up a ridiculous amount over the past year? (I don't like PJ, but it's the only place that delivers here.....despite there being another pizza place literally about 6 doors down......but I won't bore you with details. :sad2: I guess that's the price you pay for living on the border of 2 different zip codes.) ANYhoo......I paid over 17 bucks for a large 2-topping pizza yesterday! Last year I could've gotten the same thing for less than 13! :headache:

Are you using "pizza" as a code word for something else? ;) I'd like to visit Boston again.

We have cheaper pizza here too, some of which is 10 times tastier than PJ's. (I like "mom-n-pop" neighborhood places.) Unfortunately most of them were closed after 7 last night due to the holiday....... Plus I was too lazy to go out and pick it up myself. :rolleyes1

I'm always afraid to drive in cities I'm visiting because I tend to get lost in my own back yard. I wonder how much one of those conveniently-placed taxis outside the Poly would charge for a trip to the GatorLand area. If the pizza's good enough, I'd be prepared to take out a loan.

So YOU'RE the one that goes 35mph on the highway, eh? I don't mind going on the highway. I just need to be told exactly where and when to turn because when I drive I don't really know how to get somewhere unless I've driven it about 100 times. The weird thing is if you were to put a blindfold on me and spin me around I could tell you which way was north, south, east and west.......but I couldn't tell you how to get to the road that takes you any of those directions. (The roads here in COWlumbus are sad. You'll rarely find a straight road. They either zig-zag all over the place or they change names when you least expect it.)

I'm bad at finding parking spots too, probably because I have problems looking for spots and driving at the same time. (The same goes for reading street signs.) Most of the time if I'm in a parking lot I'll just paruse around the available spots that are farthest from the doors. That way I don't have to worry about running anyone over while I'm looking. I guess I have a problem with multi-tasking.

I had a friend (straight girl) who met a boy who danced at the local strip club. She moved out of state with him. I never met him, but one of my gay friends said he (and all the other boys who met the boyfriend) thought her boyfriend was gay. Probably not going to be the relationship she was hoping for! So, since he moved away, they are probably hiring down at the local strip club. :rolleyes1

I liked the basic premise of this thread...but the hijacking has been fun too.

Is it just me or are people not as nice as they used to be. . .:confused3 ...It seems that everybody is "out for themselves" - it is annoying and I am trying my darndest to make sure my DD grows up with compassion.

Nope, not just you...I see it all the time. We have a few merges around here that only work because of an understood turn-taking and lately I keep running into people who refuse to yield for the other lane. If it keeps getting worse, they're going to have to start installing lights on the access lanes.

Is it just me....

Or is Wally just not as annoying as he used to be?:confused3

Oh yeah. 2008 was probably the hardest year for me. I was a senior high school, ended up pregnant by my boyfriend in which i didnt know well enough to have a kid.. and plus neither one of us was ready.. the summer came and we ended up in minor trouble with the law. (although it wasn't a big deal, we didn't need the stress). neither one of us had jobs. the economy was horrible! Mc donalds wouldn't even hire! the fall came around and we yet had nothing prepared for the baby or even ourselves... so somehow through the Grace of God i ended up getting hired at an insurance place making decent money for the time being. A month went by and i was laid off.. My boyfriend was not really intersted in me anymore but felt obligated to stay with me so he just cheated on me alot and did what he wanted to do. Then he ended up getting kicked out of his house for an unknown reason so he had no where to go. no money. no job. no car. no food. nothing. so i felt like i had to support him as best i could even though it wasn't my job.
When November came around and i finally gave birth to my daughter the day after thanksgiving :). She did end up very healthy and beautiful which is a plus lol.. But, Christmas came around and yet neither had a job. so no presents for our newborn. and me and my boyfriend didn't even spend Christmas together.
needless to say i HATED 2008!
(except for having my daughter)

the update now is we both have jobs. I'm currently attending college and working part-time and being a mother. Our relationship has became MUCH better. There is still trust issues but things are working out.. and our daughter is still healthy and growing!! :)
so..I'm thankful 2008 is history and this is a new year!
