Hi honey, sorry I've been MIA for SO LONG...2008 has been a bit troublesome between one thing and another but I have decided that 2009 is going to be amazing (even thought I'm going to be....ehm....40:scared1: in July:scared: ). We're all booked up accomodation and flights for 31Jul-15Aug, we were meant to be in the heart of the magic for my birthday but Disney made us an offer we couldn't refuse:woohoo: ...that's how I know our luck is changing for the better:yay: . So happy folk still remember me, it's good to be back:flower3: :grouphug:

Hurrah! Tell me you're going at the end of October!...
TarzansKat
12-29-2008, 05:31 PM
Well, dearies.
This is going to be a long one.
I hope you're ready. Grab the rum, hide it from Elizabeth, and let's get ready, savvy?
TK - that's me. I'm the captain. Well not THE captain. That would be this guy...
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/jack_sparrow800-1.jpg
:::sigh::: :cloud9: I'm a wee bit obsessed. So much so that my darling DH and I will dress as Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth for MNSSHP. For details, feel free to check out the link to A Pirate's Life for Three in my siggie.
Moving on... :rolleyes1
DH - that's my husband. He's the man. I mean, THE man. My own personal Jack Sparrow. And really, does it get any better than that?
DS - aka HRH (his royal highness), that's our son. He's a sweet, lovey, VERY energetic little boy. Soon to be four, he's our world and then some. He's beginning the transition to the world of superhereos, but don't let that fool you. The other day, we were listening to the 50th anniversary CD in the car, and when HRH heard Walt and the train and all that fun stuff, he said with longing, "Mama...I want to go to the Magic Kingdom." Cue TK's heart melting.
Mom - That's my mom. If you'd like to read more about our antics, see the Royal Me This trip report link in my siggie, which also brings me to
Nana - That's my nana. She's another cohort involved in our most recent trip, which was a few short weeks ago. Mom and Nana do Disney quite differently, much in a way I used to...before HRH made his royal appearance. So having them along is always interesting.
FIL - That's my husband's dad. There's not much I can say about this man other than he is an absolute PLEASURE to go on vacation with. He is one of the most go with the flow, just happy to be there, people I've ever met in my entire life. And if we ever break off from Mom and Nana (ie they want to eat in France again and I don't), FIL will certainly be found at our side. Why? HRH. That man loves his grandson.
Dad - That's my dad! Bet you're REALLY interested now, huh? He hasn't made an appearance into this little world of Disney until now. There's a reason for that. Not that my father doesn't enjoy his time in the World with us, but suffice it to say, it's not his thing. And he'll go on occasion, for special occasions, and we all have a great time. My Dad is very similar to DH's dad. Relaxed, go with the flow, happy to be there.
And we're happy to have them.
Now what special occasion could possibly have my father going to Disney after such a long absence? And why do we have such a large crew? That's seven, count them, seven personalities to contend with!!!
Stay tuned... :happytv:

Adding your Daddy to the mix makes your crew the same size as what I wake up to each morning in my house! :rotfl: (Sadly my own Dad won't be making the trip to WDW with us because of dialysis, so it'll be JUST the six of us. We were so petrified that they would cancel our trip, and we really had no idea who had broken the lamp (broke during a nighttime pillow fight) that we went sobbing to our parents that we had both done it.
Looking back now we laugh. No way were our parents cancelling a trip a handful of days before we left. Such gullible children. :rotfl:

I'm the same way. I remember one time DS would just not quit. We were at my parents. He was totally overtired, but still. I said, if you can't behave, we're leaving. He continued to throw a fit and we left. Cried the majority of the way home. That's life, kiddo. You have to listen to Mama.

Alright.
I know I'm a pirate.
It's pretty obvious by now. And I know that once you post something on the internet, it's out there for all to see. And much like spoken words, it can't be taken back.
My feelings were a little hurt this morning. I'll admit I was a proponent in the debate, and I instigated a bit. I know that. Nevertheless, the good captain is something that's very important to me. Pirates is a way of life in this house. And it's near and dear to our hearts. And it's an integral part of the way that I write these trip / pre trip reports.
Which makes it an integral part of me. So what I'm saying is, I'm feeling a little defensive.
You all don't have to love Jack Sparrow as much as I do. I don't even know if that's really possible.
But, without sounding like an absolute wretch, may I please gently remind my lovely readers that this is my pre trip report?
I had a really hard time deciding to write this. I have a lot going on personally, and I'm not even sure if we're going to end up taking this trip. So far, I'm planning on going, but a lot of things that are up in the air right now may prevent that.
And writing a pre trip report is making an emotional investment. And that was very, very, very hard for me to do. I actually timed this specifically to coincide with the ending of A Pirate's Life for Three. Looking to the future, now bring me that horizon. Savvy?
So, if at all possible, can we get this ship steering back in the direction of the details of a pre trip report. Please, please, please, don't take offense. I love you all and our discourse very much. But we have almost five pages, and only two actual posts about the trip. Part of that is my doing, and I apologize. And please, I know it's easy for any of us to sidetrack, but almost feeling like, okay, when do I get to post about the trip?
And if we're going to have a friendly banter, let's try to keep it on the Lapuette thread. I really don't want to offend the mods.
And please remember, I'm only human after all. This tough Jack Sparrow exterior only goes so deep.
Thanks, and my apologies.
~TK~

I know you're all dying to know my dates.
Especially since there's no ticker, and I've kept them a secret for this long!
The truth is that I booked bounceback all the way back on my September trip. It's so funny to think that was only three months ago. I was reflecting on that with Tink this weekend. It seems like so much longer, savvy? Seems like I've known her forever, that we didn't "meet" for the first time at Citrico's three short months ago. Isn't it crazy how time can do that to you?
How it can change you?
And speaking of time, and how it changes you, I'm sure you're all wondering not only when we're setting sail but what exactly this voyage is in celebration of.
Because even before Disney revealed that all too relevant theme, oh, dear friends, this trip was in celebration of something.
And that something is a certain someone's as yet unspeakable birthday.
Don't worry. Eventually I'll type out the age I'm turning in 2009. I swear. At some point. That is if I haven't joined Jack Sparrow on his quest for the Fountain of Youth. Oh the fun I would have on a small boat with the good captain...
I digress...ahem.
Anyway, that's why were going. TK is hitting a milestone! And doing it with style. In the World. And that's why the whole family is going.
Now they won't all be there the whole time. Nana is adjunct faculty at a local university, and most likely will not be able to take the whole trip with us. In all likelihood she'll come down for the weekend. The same goes for my father. It's questionable whether or not he'd be able to get that much time off from work, so most likely, he'll be doing the weekend thing as well.
So your core people for most of the trip are me, DH, DS, Mom and FIL. Then Dad and Nana will join us, and that'll make us one big ole happy clan for the weekend.
Are you ready?
Do you want to know when we set sail?
Have I dragged it out long enough yet?
Pirate. pirate:
We're booked September 29th - October 4th, 2009.
Oh yes. That's 6 heavenly days in Walt Disney World. At the end of September / beginning of October. With free dining. And MNSSHP. And my favorite, favorite fall decorations. AND FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL!!!!
Am I excited? You betcha!
Even though I won't be in the World exactly on my birthday, I am stoked for this trip. Stoked. I've already got a tentative itinerary. Tentative dining plans. Tentative must-dos.
So for the trip I really didn't want to be emotionally invested in, I've got a lot planned.
I guess it's time to go get a ticker now. :lmao:

So obviously we had to pick a resort, right?
Oh, we had to pick a resort.
And conscience won out. That and a lot of other things. There are so many, many things that went into the decision to pick what we picked. Even though there are other places I would love to have stayed, I needed to keep in mind everyone's budget. Not just mine.
Because quite frankly, if this were just about me, DH, and DS, I'd probably find a way to stay at the Wilderness Lodge again. :lmao: Honestly, I have a newfound love for that resort. I think it's going to become our "pirate's life for three" resort. As in, the place that we stay when we're not taking the whole extended clan. Although you never know. There are other places I'd love to try.
Like the Caribbean Beach. Oh, how I LOVED that resort in September.
Oh, how quickly my DH veteod it based on the bus system alone.
Inwardly, I wept a little. That's my inner princess:. I do have one of those you know. Fairly repressed by the pirate:, but still in there. :lmao:
So that pretty much leaves one other option, my friends.
It's really our home away from home. Our bright, in your face, you can never forget you're at Disney World home away from home.
The one were DS has SO much fun. Where I feel a little bit younger myself. Where there's an amazing sort of energy about the place that you can't put your finger on, but is always there.
It's Disney magic, people. And it lives in the Pop Century Resort.
It's the resort of the amazing refillable slushie coke. The fantastically varied and never disappointing food court. The resort of three pools of your choosing, and fantastic wading area for the kiddos with flowers that pour ice cold (oh yeah that was fun) water on you when you pull the appropriate chain. The resort that is so colorful it almost makes my eyes hurt.
But mostly, it just makes me smile.
That's my Pop Century Resort. It's our family resort. And it's where we're staying.
Mostly for all the reasons I listed, but one significant other point as well.
Let's not pretend that I didn't price out a variety of options when I booked this bounceback. Let's not pretend that I didn't price out the Contemporary, which I'm dying to stay in since the room renovations.
But when I heard that price, my friends, my wallet cried.
Really, really cried, and it was so sad and pitiful, I had to consider its plight. The Pop Century is really the resort that everyone can afford.
Could I easily blow more money on a deluxe hotel? Oh, sure.
Pirate. pirate:
But is that the best choice for this year? :sad2: :sad1:
So, I did the reasonable thing. The responsible thing. Dang as yet unspeakable birthday, making me reasonable and responsible when I'd like to be frivilous and foolhardy. ;)
I went ahead and booked a room for the TK clan, and then, due to the grace and fortitude of my lovely, lovely reservations CM, I was able to book a room for my FIL as well. For 6 glorious days. Of free dining. During Food and Wine Festival. :cloud9: (For those of you who were wondering, Mom and Nana were able to book their room when they went this past October.) I definitely thought about it, and I definitely questioned myself. A lot.
But you know what? It was the right thing.
Not to say that I haven't had my moments of doubt, because I have. Thinking about waiting in the hot sun for the Pop Century busses (albeit I've never had too long of a wait truthfully) makes me want to cringe. Having been spoiled by being so close to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot on my past two trips, I shudder to think of the transportation issues we could have. So much so, that I actually had a nightmare about this.
Oh, yes. Because most of my sleepless nights are not caused by something reasonable like whether or not my co-workers will ever stop being so catty (okay, sometimes that's it), but mostly by whether or not we'll have a hard time with transportation at the Pop Century in Sept / Oct.
And whether or not I'll meet Jack Sparrow. Since that dream is sadly, unrequited. And I've dreamt of it twice in the past couple of weeks. In great detail.
Ahem.
Getting back on track, staying at Pop is the right thing to do.
And one of the reasons I know this?
When we got home, I made a little trip budget. I'll probably do a separate post about that in greater detail for you. But suffice it to say, I made the budget and looked at the whole, and thought, you know what, that's enough. That's enough to spend on vacation this year, when we have so many other things going on, and the possibility of needing a new car looming on the horizon.
And in the three short (almost four now) months since we returned from our September trip, I've almost hit that budget. Completely.
As in, shy of a few hundred dollars, the money for this trip is completely set aside in my happy little vacation savings.
Without even having tapped into a tax return. It's all extra money, from my job and from DH's weekend job.
And there's nothing quite like the satisfaction of knowing three things:
1. That your Disney trip is paid for.
2. That your Disney trip is affordable.
3. That you won't feel any guilt about your Disney trip.
Very un-pirate-like, I may say.
But feels good, nevertheless.
And that in and of itself, is QUITE pirate. pirate:

I don't think POP transportation will be that bad. Maybe just a Friday or Saturday night coming back from MK. The nice things are one bus stop and not sharing buses with other resorts.

Thanks for bringing up the positive! I totally forgot that Pop busses are exclusive, that's true. That will be nice, not having to share. And I know it may be a bit busy because of free dining, but going from a Tuesday to Sunday, I think we'll only really see it toward the end of the trip, and that's fine.

Honestly, it's such a family place to us, you know? I mean, would Mom and Nana and I rather be at a deluxe? Oh sure! But the budget just doesn't always allow for that. There are so many things that you could plan at Disney to help celebrate in a special way that the resort doesn't really matter......
....rent a boat on Bay Lake
.....have a special meal (or tea)
.....go to the spa

You know, a PTR may help you in that way. There are a lot of great minds to pick over here, that's for sure. And if you want help crunching numbers, Heidi is awesome at that. She helped me out with a cost comparison a while back on annual passes.
But beware.
Much like I posted previously, a PTR is an emotional commitment.

Actually, this is very common for us. And it seems to be more prevalent in this day and age. DH and I are the type of people that pay the credit cards in full every month. We don't carry debt. The only debt we have is student loans, and even those we're attacking with a vengence. NoJeanClaude. Because my biggest goal was to be debt free before I turned...
well it does rhyme, but I'm not ready to commit to the number yet. Much like I had trouble committing to the trip to celebrate the particular number.
Quite frankly, I'm just glad to be alive and having another birthday. Reading about your trip, and the issues with William, and other things on the DIS makes me a very, very grateful person.

That's so funny, I can't even fathom planning a trip in 2010. Mostly because so much "life" stuff is up in the air right now. And also, because that's the year (2010 / 2011) my little nugget will head off to kindergarten. :::GASP:::
And I said I will not take him out of school to go to Disney. Not in his first year in public school, it just feels wrong to me. I'm big on education. Nana is (and my Granddad was) a teacher, and my mother's degree is actually in education. Suffice it to say, school is big in my family.
So pretty soon, my trip reports are going to be how we served president's day weekend or spring break. :lmao:

Yeah, you read that right.
;)
In all seriousness, I did pull a minor hissy. Just a small one. Well, actually, it wasn't really a hissy at all, but to me it felt like one. Because with certain people in my life, I'm not used to putting my foot down. And with others it comes quite naturally.
And one of my gifts, I feel, like the illustrious Captain Sparrow, is a way with words. I'm usually able to diffuse tense situations with a well chosen verbalization of some sort. In good form, I can even cause riotous laughter. We can blame this on birth order (second child must appease tense situations) or genes or just my Libran personality. Must have balance...must have balance... ::: picture Rafiki sitting cross legged in zen pose:::
You're probably wondering what all this has to do with anything.
Well all that is leading up to the fact that as of yet, I haven't written about my ADRs. Mostly because I just wasn't sure about them. At all. And having committment issues about the trip already, well, you can see where this is going.
Until the other night, I was at my mother's. And we got into a discussion about the September trip. Remember, I have many, many different people to keep happy on this trip. Okay, that's not strictly true. Quite frankly, I worry most about my son, my mom, and my nana. My husband, my father in law, and my dad are the most laid back vacationers I think I've ever met. They will go where you want when you want and be completely happy doing it. Plus, now that DH has the benefit of a slushie coke every morning, he's happier than a pirate with an Aztec curse who's spent years hording smack. Savvy?
So Mom and I got into a discussion about the ADRs. And Mom talked about what she did and did not like about my suggestions. And I sort of acquiesced.
And then went home.
And it bothered me. A lot. Because I hadn't compromised on one thing, I'd compromised on a LOT of things. And it didn't feel like my birthday trip anymore. And it's very very rare that I will throwdown like a princess pirate style, but in this case, I felt I had to.
This is my trip.
For my birthday.
I know what you're going to say, TK, you just went in December. That was a birthday gift, wasn't it?
Well, yes it was. But as you'll see as my trip report in that regard progresses, that trip wasn't about me. At all, and that was quite all right. It was about Mom and Nana being able to show me Disney their way. Show me the things they were interested in. And all of us seeing those beautiful decorations together for the first time. In that sense, it was a wonderful gift. But it wasn't about me. And that was fine. Because I didn't need it to be such.
This one does. And not to be selfish. Not to be mean. Not to go all Barbossa on everyone. Just that I'm facing a milestone birthday, and I'd like to celebrate the way that I'd like, with particular ADRs in mind.
And apparently I was more attached to those ideas than even I knew.
So I wrote this delightful (no joke) little e-mail to Mom explaining why I wanted what I wanted.
And she was totally cool with it. Understood my reasoning, even agreed, and agreed that something she wanted to do could be a special just her and Nana thing.
This would make so much more sense if I told you where we're hoping to go, right?
I think I'll save that for next time.

So let's talk about the first day, shall we?
Just what do pirates eat?
Short answer? Whatever they want! :lmao:
Long answer: Well, dearies, this list of ADRs was pretty much in my head ever since we got home from our trip in September. I knew what I wanted to repeat, what didn't need to be revisited, and also that there needed to be something new.
Now there are lots and lots of things I would love to fit into this trip. But it's six days. And for half the time, we're going to be a party of seven. So with that in mind, I tried to pick some favorites, and again, something new.
So let's just focus on the first day for now.
Which really isn't very exciting. Because basically, in good old TK fashion my plans are to get there.
That's pretty much it. Maybe we'll go to the Magic Kingdom and get my most favoritest hot dog in the World and the world. Maybe we'll go to Downtown and have :::shock, gasp::: ice cream for dinner again. It really just depends on my little nut. On the time of our flight, the time we weigh anchor at the Pop Century, whether or not the room is ready, all that good stuff.
But this is one of the things I put my foot down about.
We WILL NOT make a reservation for the first day.
I hate that. Abhor it. Detest it even. And although that's standard for Mom and Nana, I'm putting my foot down. We're not gonna do it, wouldn't be prudent. I loved in September when we got to our hotel. Checked in. Unpacked in a leisurely fashion and then decided what to do with ourselves. That was heaven. Pure, sweet heaven.
So that's day one folks.
I promise, the ADRs are coming. pirate:

Just being in the "world" is kinda like heaven. ::yes:: we have ressies our first day, for the first time. We've spent a lot of our Disney trips always having a ressie the first day. But I loved not having to be somewhere specific. I know my son will be about four and a half by the time we go, so he'll be older and maybe able to handle more, but in case he needs some down time, and to not feel rushed, we're just going to wing it. Heck...maybe we'll spend the night at Pop just enjoying the resort! :goodvibes

With a 4 1/2 y/o that is probably a GREAT idea. I do have the Disney Dining number in my phone incase something were to change. But it was so much fun last year that is why we made ressies for this trip. At the same time we might get some shopping done while at DTD. If not, we can stay at the resort (BWV) and walk to Epcot to get a grey goose slushie.

Alright, little minions...
ahem. I mean, pirates. ;)
Before you all mutiny, hit unsubscribe, and leave me with absolutely no crew, I'm going to throw you a little bone. A nice juicy one. Like they try to offer the dog at the end of the POTC ride. You know? The little dog that shakes his head, holding the keys, "that dog is never going to move." That one.
I think you'd all like that at this point.
Now Day Two and Day Three happen to be sort of interchangeable. And actually related because I've been debating something of sorts in regard to this trip. See, being budget savvy and wanting to par down compared to last year, we all decided to stay at Pop. Decided to book within our means. The hordes are getting low, see?
But there's something that I've been thinking about tacking on to our package that would really just make me feel better. Give me peace of mind. Help me to know what I want when I look at the spinny compass that doesn't point north, eh?
And that's park hoppers. Right now we have a base ticket. I haven't called yet to upgrade, but I plan to, and mostly, because of Food and Wine Festival. I'm fairly certain that I could plan this trip without hoppers. I could easily stick to one park per day, as a matter of fact, I sort of enjoyed that last time. But last time, we were there for 8 days. This time, 6. Giving all the things that could possibly go wrong (weather, yadda, yadda) I think adding on the hoppers would behoove us.
Well, that and there's Food and Wine Festival.
I mean, you know I'm going to be running over to Epcot a lot, right? I mean there's food. And wine.
I'm a pirate. I'm sure there's rum somewhere too. That'll about do it.
ANYWAY!
Day two. I don't know where we'll start the morning. I'm sure you're all LOVIN' me right now. Since we're going to be hopping, we could really go anyway. I've got a couple of different scenarios in mind.
1. If we go to Downtown our arrival night, then this morning, head to the Magic Kingdom. If we're up early enough, try to hit Fantasyland, maybe have Casey's for lunch.
2. If we've gone to the Magic Kingdom on arrival night, either head to DHS or Epcot. Easy to hop back and forth between by taking the lovely boat...er ship... over by the International Gateway, savvy?
And what's for certain, dear friends, is that we'll end our evening at the...
Coral Reef.
Yup. Call me unreliable...call me irresponsible...
Well, I guess we should really change those lyrics, huh?
Call me predictable. Totally and utterly predictable. Because, yes, we did eat there for dinner on our first full day last September. And yes, we do love it there. I'm amenable to the mahi mahi, the yummy drinks, and the key lime tart. NOM! And DS does soooooooooo well here, because of the distraction of the aquariam. It's just a cool place to eat, and I'm looking forward to having a nice time there. Most likely at this point, it'll be myself, DH, DS, Mom and FIL. I think Dad and Nana will be arriving later, towards the weekend.
So there you go, min...I mean pirates. An ADR!!!
Happy? pirate:

I'm so excited that you will be able to enjoy your birthday at Disney!! No matter what age it is, you are going to have such a great time with Family!!! Now post more...I need more...of course if you posted more I actually in all honesty wouldn't get to read it until I returned from my trip...so maybe you wait (UhOh ...being a LIbra is kicking in...means I must say goodbye!!)

Your plans are looking great. We loved the Coral Reef too last year and have ressies for our trip this year. Yes, the kids loved it. We had a booth looking at the aquarium, it was great.:thumbsup2

It's more of a I grew up in Kansas so I am accustomed to COW and PIG. I did not grow up eating anything that came from the water and my dad who loves seafood refused to buy the stuff at the store...said it wasn't fresh!!
So its more that I never acquired a taste for it and in general I just don't care for it unless its been battered and fried and then slathered in tartar sauce and well....that sort of defeats the purpose LOL!!!

I never used to like fish either. Growing up the only fish I was ever served was either out of a can or coated in batter.
I've tried branching out as I have gotten older, and find that now I really do like more fish. Much more than I like beef actually. Normally I stick to chicken, so having something else I like is wonderful. I love Mahi Mahi. Easily my favorite seafood.

Welcome to the chapter containing the ADR that sparked the pirate princess verbal throwdown.
I know you're going to laugh at me when you hear what it is. But let's keep in mind some simple things, shall we? Mom and I can easily agree on signature restaurants. So when you're thinking of an ADR that we'd conflict on, you need not think fancy.
Not necessarily even good food.
More like atmosphere.
More like even though this is TK's birthday trip, I mostly plan our dining around one individual. And that's my dear little boy. Because if I'm going to sit down in a restaurant, I'd like to give ourselves the benefit of good atmosphere. Something distracting.
Something entertaining.
Something that will keep him in his seat, happily (hopefully) eating his food until we're ready to leave.
And that is why, despite the fact that I'm not enamored of the selection, and know there are other places we could go (Mom wants to go to France again and I said absolutely not, for details see upcoming posts in my December trip report) we will be dining at this particular little drive in.
Oh, yes, my friends.
On day three of our trip, I'm making an ADR for the Sci Fi Dine In Theater.
Picture this, if you will. Dim lighting. Seating in cars. A big ole movie screen playing all sorts of sci fi whatnot that's not too scary for the kiddos.
Oh, yeah, baby.
This one is all about my son. And this is what I fought for. Tooth and nail. I want him to see this place. To enjoy this atmosphere. And so on this, our third day, whether or not we start or end in DHS or Epcot, and some point we'll be eating at the Sci Fi. I'm thinking lunch would be nice, but haven't really finalized that part of the itinerary.
I just know we're eating here. And for all the reasons that I told my mother. I think DS will love sitting in a car to eat. That boy is all about the cars. I think he'll love the big movie screen. I know none of us is enamored by the food, but I don't care! I'm sure that every person in our party can find at least one thing on the menu that they'll like. Honestly. Just because we're spoiled :snooty: by Citrico's (and in Mom's case, Chefs de France) doesn't mean that we can't take one for the littlest member of this trip's team and eat in someplace that is fun.
Much like the Coral Reef ADR is not only because we love the food there, but because it's entertaining for DS, this ADR is more because it will be entertaining for DS.
And that is what we had a little throwdown about. Mom didn't want to go to either one of those. We talked about going to the Brown Derby again, which I do love, and she also wanted to go to France.
I don't.
I did. In December. It was enough. There are a lot of reasons, but that's why I put my foot down. This may be a family trip, but we are eating at very nice signature restaurant at the end of the trip. There are no plans on our arrival day. There are some open slots in the intinerary.
And so Mom acquiesced. So far. Although the other day she asked, well these are the only two reservations set it stone, right? :::sigh::: But, she said that perhaps (whenver Nana arrives) that they will make their own reservation in France.
And I was glad. It's selfish, but I was. I just have no desire to go there again (I bet you're all wondering why now, but it's just not enjoyable for me) and honestly, it's good for everyone if you break off every now and then. And that rarely, rarely happens on these trips.
In some ways, I'm nervous about it. I told my husband I was so spoiled by our September trip, just the three of us. We did what we wanted whenever we wanted. We changed plans. We moved ADRs. We were so, so free. It's not like that when you go with that many people. When you make those kind of ADRs, for odd numbers, and of a larger size, you're really committed to it. You have less options to throw things around and switch them up. Maybe that's what scares my Mom.
The horror of a "bad" meal. :upsidedow
And I CANNOT believe I'm about to say this, but sometimes, just sometimes, it's not all about the food.
I know, I know. Thirty lashes.
But it's not. Even though we stress and we plan and kevitch over ADRs and second guess ourselves, I can tell you one thing. If I don't try Sci Fi, I'll regret it. I think DS will be old enough (almost 4.5 by the time we go) and I think he'll love it.
And that, for me, is quite enough.
(I've got the Food and Wine Festival right around the corner if I leave hungry, anyway. ;) )

A mutiny on your other report and a throwdown here! :scared: But I so agree with you -- you have to stand up for what is best for you and HRH and when traveling in a group with varied interests you can't be together 24/7. At least not while retaining your sanity!
I think you'll love Sci Fi too. I haven't eaten there but it looks fun! I've heard that the burgers are really quite good!

From what I've read about Sci-Fi....if you stick to the burgers and sandwiches it's pretty good. It probably better for seating if it's just the 4 of you eating there anyways, not the odd 7.

That's what I'm thinking. Which is why I'm leaning towards lunch, because I think there's more sandwich fare then. Actually, we'll be five. Myself, DH, DS, FIL, and Mom. I'm hoping they'll let us sit in a car, if we can put DS between me and Mom, I know we'll fit. I just don't know what the policy is.

It seems like so much longer, savvy? Seems like I've known her forever, that we didn't "meet" for the first time at Citrico's three short months ago.
It's so, so true. And even then it seemed like we'd already known each other forever. Time is such a funny thing.

We ate at Sci-Fi on our summer trip in 2007 and to this day it remains one of our fondest memories. We loved it there -- all four of us. The atmosphere was out of this world (pun intended) and those clips had us in stitches the ENTIRE time. Chelsea and Connor are still asking to go back. The food was good and filling -- not spectacular but nowhere near as bad as some of the reviews I read later on. Stick with it. You should definitely experience it.

This only happened because he read my guidebook...and they called 'Ohana a "meat feast". He has to have it. But there's no availability. On three different nights. I thought January was supposed to be slow at The World. :confused3
But all in all, I am glad to see him get a little interested in the trip, I just wished it had happened sooner! :upsidedow

Sci Fi!!!
Fun!
We seriously considered Sci Fi. And we would have done it. But we think the whole "sit in the car" deal is the main attraction ... sort of the whole point. And Lauren can't sit in the car. So we skipped it. We were afraid she would sort of feel left out. Since most, if not all, of the places in WDW are VERY handicapped accessible, we are not complaining at all about this! :) But, it didn't work for us.
So, I am counting on you, my friend, to give us all the details! Lots of pictures! Even headless ones...of you guys enjoying your meal! Lots of food...what do you call it...art? Which I like much better than the other term floating around the Dis. :rolleyes1

Now we get to the part of our trip that looks remarkably similar to past trips.
As in today is a day steeped in TK clan tradition. Before the TK clan was even called the TK clan. I'm not quite sure what year we stumbled on this great idea. I'm fairly certain DS was about 1.5. So that would have been his second trip. And I believe, the first time we had free dining.
God how I love free dining. How I love, love, love it. How I'll be so sad that in all likelihood, I won't be booking it again. See, after this trip, the following year, my little nut will go to kindergarten.
:::gasp:::
I know, I know. My little pirate is growing up. I'm having a hard time coming to terms with that fact, but no matter how stubbornly I try to refuse to recognize it, my baby is growing up. Into quite a sweet, lovable, and very funny little boy. Almost witty, if you will. I have no idea who he gets that from. ;)
I had been in absolute panic over these ADRs in the past week.
This is one of the only things that bothers me about writing a pre trip report. You invest your time, you write your thoughts, and then you commit your plans to paper...board...internet, oh you get the idea.
And then they become real and tangible and not just ideas. Because you've committed to them.
You know, for a woman who was engaged to her husband three months after they met, remained engaged to that man throughout the whole of college and one year after to afford some time to save money and get settled, was married at 22, and has been with that lovable pirate Jack Sparrow look alike for over 10 years now, you'd be really really surprised to hear about my commitment issues.
But I have them.
I have problems committing to ADRs. Problems committing to the trip. Problems committing the money to the trip. When there are other things that need to be done, other goals that need to be accomplished, other avenues to pursue.
And then it hits me.
It's okay for things to change. I can write these down, commit to them and change them two days later, and all likelihood, you'll still keep reading and we'll get to enjoy all the craziness that is planning a Disney trip. And in all reality, I can cancel this trip if I need to. I can do anything. (Is that a Barbie commercial, good lord...:lmao: )
But seriously. I'll continue writing because we'll continue assuming that the plans are going to be set forth and followed.
And I can tell you, that on this fourth day of our vacation, a Friday, these plans will be followed. These are one of the only sets of plans that doesn't change from year to year.
And we love them.
See, we always go to a MNSSHP. It's a requirement, and we just love them. And for the past few years, before MNSSHP, we've done a late breakfast at Chef Mickey's. And Chef Mickey's holds a very special place in my heart. For all the good meals we've had there, and for how my husband magically got our son to be okay with the characters there on our Pirate's Life for Three. How on that trip, Mickey was DS' first character, and how the characters were so good. And how he actually ate, because it was a buffet and there were choices.
And I love breakfast for lunch. Since it's really, almost lunch by the time we get in to our 1120 reservation. So we'll be doing that again this year.
Enjoying our time at Chef Mickey's and having a leisurely morning. Now, in the past we've been able to go back to the room and relax a bit before the party, but now that DS is older, if he's in the room, he won't sleep. If I don't have a chair to rock him in, our we're not strolling him through a park when he's tired, it's not going to happen.
So I think we may deviate in the slightest bit from our plans. And maybe, my family will hop on over to a park with me in the afternoon before the party. Now depending on how extensive our costumes are (as in if we continue to dress as pirates), we will have to head back to our hotel at some point to get changed and ready.
So we'll see how it goes.
But I can tell you one thing for sure. If we're going on this trip, and we're going to MNSSHP, then we're eating at Chef Mickey's beforehand. And that, in and of itself, makes me happy.
That, I can committ to. pirate:

Oh, we've dressed as pirates for the past two years. DH is Jack Sparrow, and I'm Elizabeth; DS is our cute little pirate nugget. Easy costume for him, for us, not so much. DH's costume is fairly authentic and it takes him about an hour to get ready. It takes me less time, but my dress (gold type styled after the first film) offers me limited mobility, so although I LOVE wearing it and the reactions we get, and the pictures we took last year, it's also a bit constricting and warm to wear around the Magic Kingdom. Which I did with heels. I don't know if you knew this already, if so, forgive me. :lmao:
I too will be sticking around!! I'm so excited about the idea of attending my first MNSSHP...I'm also thinking of dressing up...now to convince the others I'm going with LOL!!!!
You should totally dress up. You know, Mom and Nana are the same thing every year, and they're adorable. They wear those orange jack o lantern tee shirts, and look fantastic. We've got a few extra, so we usually lend one to my FIL.
I guess the only consideration is if we have the whole clan for MNSSHP, we may want to do a theme. And that's all I'm saying about that for now. That's a whole other post. ;)

Yes. I'm going to be one of those parents. One of the ones who will not take their child out of school to go to Disney. At least until he's a lot older, you know? I just would hate to give his teacher / the school district a first impression of us that I yanked him out of kindergarten to go on vacation for a week.

I have always wondered what it must be like to go during non-peak times -- although I wouldn't worry too much about taking your child out of school to go on vacation as long as he is doing well. I remember my parents used to take my brother and me out of school all the time -- in fact, my very first visit to Epcot was in February (four months after it opened).

I'm sure we might take him out at some point, but not during his first year of public school. Not unless I knew that I could swing a long weekend and have it not be to his detriment. Honestly, though, I doubt it. I'm sort of ready for a change in the way we vacation, if that makes sense.

Okie dokie. Sadly, we've already reached the last full day of our trip. Now, if we've added the park hoppers (which I haven't done yet, but will most likely do), then we can just hop all over to whatever parks we haven't hit yet...savvy?
All I can tell you, dear friends, is that on this day, we have another non-negotiable, totally agreed upon by TK and Mom ADR.
And that would be dinner at Citrico's. Ever since I dined there with Tink and Missy in September, I have discovered my love of the Citrico's filet and sorbet. Hee hee. Rhymes.
Anyway :lmao: I really enjoy the menu. I really enjoy being at the Grand Floridian. If I can't afford to stay there, at least I can soak in the atmosphere. Remember fondly when DH and I got stuck in a HUGE rainstorm during our honeymoon, and were running from the grand lobby outside to our room, and it was like a river in the sidewalk. Ducks waddling around happy as can be, me ready to trip, and DH looks at me, and says, take your sandals off! :rotfl2: And we're laughing and smiling and young and in love and on our honeymoon. And we get to our building soaking wet, laughing some more.
Memories like those. :goodvibes
So hopefully, since this is the weekend, we'll have the entire clan for this dinner, which I'm really looking forward to. I'm inclined to make the earliest ressie possible (I think that's 530) because that really worked for us in December. More on that in my trip report.
Speaking of that trip report, I find that things I write there have a direct correlation to what I plan here. And vice versa. Sort of like writing those events is a cathartic experience, in which I learn something about myself.
And you know what I learned from my most recent chapter?
I think we're going to switch the Coral Reef ADR to lunch. I get tired, for the most part, waiting all day to go somewhere to eat. I like the idea of having the evening open. And the only reason it bothered me on the last trip was because we didn't hop, and therefore, we ate at Roaring Forks a lot.
But with hoppers, and Food and Wine Festival, that shouldn't be an issue.
So let's just do a little review for old time's sake?
Tuesday, September 29th -
Open Day - Head to Magic Kingdom or Downtown Disney
Regardles of which, give DS plenty of time to run around and blow off steam
Wednesday, September 30th -
Epcot - Coral Reef Lunch
Thursday, October 1st -
DHS - Sci Fi Dine In Theater Lunch
Friday, October 2nd -
Contemporary - Chef Mickey's Late Breakfast
MNSSHP
Saturday, October 3rd -
Open Day - Head to whatever park we haven't done
Grand Floridian - Citricio's Dinner

If you head to Downtown Disney on the first night what are you thinking on doing for dinner? After our last trip I have a must go-again restaurant and a not going there ever again restaurant for DTD. That's so an added benefit of going to Disney often; knowing the restaurants from first hand experience.

Well, the way I've planned it out, we have used all our table service credits. Which leaves counter service, of which I think I can choose Earl of Sandwich or Wolfgang Puck Express, right?
Honestly, I'm open to suggestions. I looked at the menu for Raglan Road and considered it, but I've heard it can be loud, and I don't know if I'm interested in that.
I also do a lot of my internet purchases through a site where I earn points, and can redeem the points for gift cards. So it's even possible that we could eat at the Rainforest Cafe with gift cards. I don't remember whether or not the Downtown Disney location takes ADRs?

Well, my dear, if you play your cards right, it'll be my next chapter.
Or maybe the one after that.
As the good captain would say, "Persuade me." :lmao:
You tell me your idea and I'll tell you mine LOL!!!!!! :rotfl2:
Okay persuade you...well unfortunately I don't have access to all my Jack Sparrow pictures at the moment (those are on my home computer) so I guess I'm going to have to hope you follow some sort of pirate code and just put me out of my misery and tell me LOL!!!! :rotfl2:
Man Patience is not a virtue I have or will ever have at this rate LOL!!

I require pictures of the good captain.
Lots of them.
As I said...
"Persuade me."
LOL
EDIT: Besides, the code only applies if you're a pirate! Are you?

I don't think I have consumed enough rum in my life yet to be considered a pirate...guess I'd better go work on that patience thing LOL :rotfl:

Patience is a virtue.
And look, you have eight months, roughly, to work on that rum thing before we (hopefully) meet. :lmao:

I don't know about the ADR's for Rainforest Cafe. If you can get gift cards for Rainforest you should be able to use them at T-Rex too (same parent company)
