Thanks on the bag photos. I figured they'd be useful to someone, and at the very least, I'm convincing myself how great that baggalini is. :lmao:
My summer is going really well, actually. DS and I are getting out and doing a lot of day trips, swimming at my grandmother's, so we're really having some fun. It'll fly by and before I know it, it'll be time for my trip! :thumbsup2:
I think a new thread should be started (if it doesn't already exist) about park bags. Your photos of the baggalini and Jackie's photos of the hipster can be first :)

I took pictures of my new bag tonight I just haven't had the time to post them.
TK- I got the medium size messenger from LL Bean. I think it's plenty big for what you would be carrying. Too small for my two kids....and a bit too big for me solo....but I love to shop so I'll fill it. The only thing I don't like 100% is the length of the strap. But I can live with it.

Sorry the Baggallini didn't work for you....I thought it might not. I wanted to say something because I had a similar experience years ago when I tried one on for size.....had to send it back due to the pain. I spoke about that once on here, and got flamed. SO, didn't want to create a civil war again. I am glad they work for some, but not for me....and not for TK!
Ahem......Vera does have some GOOD deals on their big backpacks.....just in case you need something for SCHOOL...yeah, that's right school!!!! SO BAD AM I!!!!!! ;) Love ya!

I am TK.

A thought on the initials thing. Call me paranoid but I have this totally irrational fear of ID'ing by creepy people with names/initials on the outside of a backpack. Like somehow they will figure out who my kid is, stalk them, and take them.
This of course has WAY more to do with the fact that the E's have NO fear of anyone, are as social and outgoing as the day is long and while I can talk till I'm blue in the face in their hearts, believe everyone is good and have a very hard time NOT interacting with strangers if engaged.
It gives me major heartburn. Not really an initials issue is it:rotfl:
So for their backpacks one got a pattern, making it easy to ID and the other I took an embroidery place in the mall so he could "decorate" it as he saw fit. But without initials. It's a very interestingly colored car. Not what I'd have picked but hey, it's his backpack. If he wants to do that with the new one, I'll take him again.
Yes, as someone pointed out your DS may well "want" a new character cheapo one each year (same thing with the lunchbox). I have many friends who do this, and go through it. And many of the same friends who end up going through 2 a year b/c they just don't hold up! Or the kid decided they don't like the character half way through the year and "need" a new one (said power rangers wallet lol! replaced by a cool DC one....doesn't stop him from eying Vans or other "cool" ones. um...not!)
I am letting them both get new ones this year even though really, they don't "need" it. But 3 years for the first one, 2 years for DS10's second, with heavy heavy use, I figure I got my money's worth. DS10 is done until jr high this way and DS8 at least for another 2 years.
DS8 has two different cars lunchboxes that were gifts and a really nice LL bean one. The cheopo ones have each lasted about 6 months whereas the other one, now 3 years old, still looks brand new.
you know....you could just wait on the wallet until you are there....I bet you'd find some (and now that I think about it, bet DS10 asked for at least one while we were there lol!)

I seriously do not want to disparage the bagg for people who enjoy it. It's just not the right fit for me at all. I'm sorry you got flamed. That's unfortunate. Quite frankly, not everything is going to work for everyone, and it's wonderful that we're all very passionate people, but that behavior is really unnecessary.

Um, hon? Paranoid? I'm the one who won't post pictures of us on the internet. Same reason. No paranoid here, just cautious.

I'll just have to see where DS is at when he goes to kindergarten. You know, a nice compromise would really be a good sturdy, LLBean backpack, and a character lunchbox. I wouldn't have an issue replacing a lunch box.:thumbsup2 Target has them year round, as I discovered a few weeks ago when we went to find a lunch box for preschool.
oh and BTW I am totally going to try your recc on the Burts Bees Bug Spray, DS8 reacts to everything. He is not the bug magnet that I and DS10 are but still! :)

That's exactly what I did. DS has had his Lands' End backpack for 3 years and it looks exactly the same as it did when I bought it. It's been to Disney, Alaska, cruising, and to school every day for 2 years now. We get a new lunch box every year and he can pick out whatever he wants.

If you can't find the right place in my PTR, I can always repost the picture for you. They're the Keen...Newports, I believe. I had to go up a size. I normally wear an 8 in shoes, sometimes an 8.5 in sandals, but to really feel comfy in those I needed a 9, just so you know. I order from places that do free shipping and returns though, so it's easy to exchange sizes.
:thumbsup2Thanks I will be looking for some today. I really just needed the name of them.
I seriously wish I knew where mine was. I can picture it in my head, and I'm trying to remember the last time I had it. That would make my life so much easier if I could find it. :thumbsup2

Don't feel alone about having trouble getting ADR's those first days - IPO booked for me at 90 days and those were the days I didn't get what I wanted! Must be the weekend or something - I would think with food & wine starting, the restaurants would be emptier, but apparently I'm wrong. I figuring the park (Epcot) maybe really crowded with the opening of Food and Wine, and it seems like the restaurants are really packed. I'm keeping mind to, this is towards the end of the free dining promo, so that could be part of it as well.

No, and it's the night before our 6 days with the DxDP. So whatever we get will be OOP. I'm wondering if we should just ditch Fulton's and go with Earl of Sandwich rather than eating another TS.

I've only had the mailbag for a couple days. I absolutely love the way it looks. It's bigger than the hipster so it doesn't look over crammed with stuff the way my hipster always does. I still haven't figured out the most comfortable way to wear it. Also the outside pocket can't have a lot of weight in it because then the magnets won't catch. I'm still trying to figure out what I think of it. (I definitely love it as a purse but I'm not sure about it as a park bag yet.)

Phew. I'm caught up. I'll admit that I cheated and used the links.
And I thought I had bag drama on my last trip!? You put me to shame with your baggallini pictures and lettered shots!
I can't remember everything else I wanted to comment on but I am here, caught up and will be much more witty in my responses from now on! :goodvibes

I know, right. Who the heck is Elle?
Any of you Kohl's shoppers? If you are, you know what I'm talking about. But there's much much more to discuss, so let's start at the beginning, savvy?
DH and I got out on a date yesterday! I was so excited, I was looking forward to it all morning while I was at work. We went to the movies, out to eat, and afterwards headed to our local Disney store. I hadn't been in a Disney store in ages (there are so few of them now) so I was delighted to find some things!
First, all their mini beanies were B1G1. And the sign said $8.50. And all the little tags where the perforation is, were ripped off. I found this guy right on top and I knew I had to have him for DS.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0380.jpg
Now, DS slept over my parent's last night, so this will be waiting for him on his bed when he gets home today. And for those of you who may not know, we have had some changes to the MNSSHP costume ideas. DS is dead set on being Wall E for the party. I've found a costume on Ebay, basically I just need to buy it. It's actually from the UK Disney store. So far, it's the only Wall E costume I can find that I think he'd wear. So he's now convinced that he's going to be Wall E, and my mother is going to be Eve. I've already thought of a clever way to make her costume, but I'm waiting on that to make sure he doesn't change his mind. I don't think he will. He's been saying he wants to be Wall E for weeks now.
Which leaves us to revert to being pirates. Our true and natural state.
So for those of you who are going to MNSSHP on October 1st, yes, my husband will be dressed as Jack Sparrow. I hope we live up to your expectations. I'm still working on my costume, with plans to not wear my Elizabeth dress of past years. I've got a little something else in mind.
I also need to figure out a costume for my FIL, but that should be easy. I think if I get him to wear a white tee and navy shorts with his sandals I can get him a waist sash and call it a day.
Now you're probably wondering, what will we do with Nana? Well, I still have the bonnet. Which I thought, in my deluded musings that she could wear, and we'd pack a wooden rolling pin.
She, she'll be the one who's chasing us down. It's perfect. :thumbsup2
Now, my mom's not thrilled because she wanted us all to match. I feel guilty that she's upset, but at the same time, I want DS to be happy, so there you go. We'll see how it all pans out.
Now, since we took that nice little segue, let's head back to the Disney store and the mini beanies shall we? B1G1. So I found Wall E sitting on top there and he was the only one they had. I thought well, let me see what else I can find.
And that's when I found this cute little guy.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0381.jpg
I don't think I've mentioned it before, but Dumbo is one of my nana's favorite characters. Always has been. And I've been planning to put together little gift bags for my family for the trip. I know it's my birthday, but I kind of want to spoil everyone a little because it's fun. :goodvibes So this little guy will be going in her bag. I'm also hoping to throw in some glow necklaces, and other fun things for the trip, and trying to individualize it to each person. Yes, this gift bag concept should definitely be interesting.:lmao:
Want to hear the best part? He didn't have his perforated tag ripped off. And his price read $6.50. Remember, the sign read $8.50.
So guess what? When I got to ring out, I politely asked the girl if she would give me the two for $6.50. And she did. :woohoo:
I was pleased as punch.
And not just because of that.
Check these out.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0382.jpg
Are they not the cutest ever? And given DS' current Wall E obsession, I thought they were perfect. They also happened to be on sale! $4.99 each. I was thrilled. I walked out of that store with four items, all of which I was thrilled about for a little under $18. I couldn't believe my good fortune. Talk about some pirate treasure, huh?
Now, I'm not sure when I'll give these to DS. Maybe one will go in his gift bag and the other will be for the night of the party....we'll see. I'm sure I'll figure something out. :thumbsup2
Which finally brings me to our next topic.
Now as you all know, I've been coveting Veras and debating Baggalinis and going through all sorts of websites in an effort to determine what exactly is the perfect park bag for TK.
I know what the perfect park bag is and it's sadly defunct, having performed many, many years of service. R.I.P. green Weathervane bag. Thou hast served me well.
Well, the other day I was returning some items at Kohl's, and I came across this little number. It's the Elle brand.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0383.jpg
Say it with me. Oooooooo....it's pre-tty.
Never mind that it was also on sale. And I had a 15% off coupon. It cost me $12.49. I love Kohl's.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0384.jpg - Here's a close up.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0385.jpg - And the interior.
The interior has two slip pockets and a zippered pocket as well. It's not as many pockets as my other bag, but I really think it'll do. I don't have a picture of myself wearing it yet, but it fits me just right. It's almost the exact same style as the other bag I had, and it feels only a little bit bigger.
I've done my research, checking out Veras at one of my local stores and honestly, the hipster might be too big for me. I'm not sure. This bag seems just right.
I feel like Goldilocks.
My only lament is that the interior is black. I really love when bag designers make the interior a lighter color or a print so that you can find your stuff. So what I'm debating now is ordered some Vera items (they currently have a free shipping when you spend $75 code) to fill my new bag.
For example, it would be nice to have everything separated out in bright and colorful little Veras so that it would be easy to see in there.
And it gives me an excuse to get some little Veras.
And some color. I love that this bag is black, because it will go with everything I wear, but I don't love that the interior is black. I'd love to be able to pull out a Bali Gold Euro Wallet and have people say hey, that girl likes her some yellow and pink. :lmao: Or whatever. I'm watching some auctions on Ebay and could possibly order from the actual Vera site, so we'll see how that goes.
Now, they actually had this bag in a green, which I also purchased but decided to return. It just wasn't me.
So DH and I were returning this last night after our exciting date at the movies, dinner out, a trip to the Disney store, and a trip to AC Moore (guess who needs more tie dye to fufill all your requests ;)).
So suffice it to say every time I walk into Kohl's to return something, I end up walking out with something else. :headache: It's a curse. :rolleyes1
I happened to find this.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0386.jpg
It was on sale. It had some color! (Usually our backpacks are black.)
DH said, why green? :rolleyes1
I feigned ignorance of the DIS' obsession with green. "Because I'm sick of getting black all the time. It's got some color, and it's the only one of this kind." It actually was the only one of its kind in the store.
And on sale. Check it out.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0388.jpg
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0389.jpg
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0390.jpg
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0391.jpg
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0392.jpg
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI0393.jpg
So we bought it. I just had a good feeling about it.
And I'll let you in on something. I'm having a really hard time right now finding a college that can accomodate my schedule. It looks more and more like I might have to quit my job and pay OOP for health insurance to go back to school, which scares the daylights out of me, but at the same time, what can you do? And although I know if I go to school, I'd probably want an LL Bean backpack for myself...I even know the color, style, and what I'd like to have embroidered on it...I can't bring myself to order one yet. I feel like I am jinxing myself. It's been rough, guys. Rough and frustrating. There are other options I have to explore as well, so all is not lost. Just frustrated. Anyway, that's heavy life stuff and I really don't want to focus on that right now because I think about it all the time.
So anyway, we bought this backpack. I'm hoping it's good quality, it's the Adidas brand, and it looked a bit tougher than what we've gotten previously. Now it was on sale and we got 15% off, so it was around $21. I came home, found it on their online website and got my 30% off coupon code and free shipping, and it comes to around $17. So to save four dollars, I ordered.
Yes, I am that cheap. I'll return the more expensive one. And before you worry about my wasting the gas to drive there, which DH kindly pointed out to me last night, thinking I was crazy, I actually have occasion to go to that town anyway. It's where my allergy shots are and wear I get my eyebrows done. I can easily combine it with one of those trips, and it's totally worth it to me.
I think we may have delved a little too much into my pysche right there. :lmao: But seriously, welcome to how we can afford to go to Disney every year. Frugal gets you somewhere, that's for sure.
So dear friends, there you have it. The purchase of possibly two park bags: a cute little black number for myself and the potential backpack. Another reason I like purchasing the backpack from Kohls is that their return policy is awesome, so if we find something better, or it just doesn't hold up, it'll be really easy to return it. Which is always a good thing.
Because the radar is always going, my friends. Always going. pirate:

:lmao:
You know, I wondered if anyone would ask about that. I already knew my chapter was going to run long, so I sort of glossed over that part.
Actually, it was really nice to go on a date with my husband. They're so few and far between, but now that my mother has DS less during the week, she's willing to take him on the weekends sometimes for us, and that can be very nice.
We went to see Harry Potter, and it was a tough movie for me. Very very good, don't get me wrong, but I bawled like a baby. I mean teared up at different things and then at the end, full on, shoulders shaking, snot running, crying.
It was very attractive. :lmao: I'm sure my husband thought so. I was so glad I remembered to put kleenex in my purse. Thank goodness the woman in front me was crying as well, not that I mean her ill or anything, just that I was glad I wasn't alone!
Afterwards we went to the Rainforest Cafe. I had a coupon. Let's just say it's a good thing I had a coupon. I know this is true of a lot of restaurants, so let me say, I get the economic state we're in. The menu was new. Cut back on the amount of items they offered, but they still had our favorites. The menu was new because they increased their prices. They also cut their portion sizes on sandwiches, wrap sizes, and fries. The portion of fries was smaller! I almost laughed at it, it was so puny compared to what they used to do. Now for me, it was a fine amount of food. I ate half my wrap and took the rest home. But we had to ask for a fork for me twice. DH asked to have American not Swiss on his sandwich and it came out with Swiss. He also asked for some sauce on the side and they ignored that as well. We didn't bother to complain because to us, it just wasn't worth it. We were having a good time anyway.
The blow may have been softened by my Rainbow Colada. :lmao:
Anyway, we ended the night with me on the computer and us watching Pirates 2 on TV. I know, not romantic, but I'd worked that morning and was exhausted. :rotfl2:
Still, it was very nice to get out together and run those shopping errands as well. We had a lot of fun.:goodvibes
Me too, it makes it much easier to find things. Pretty patterned wallets, change purses and eyeglass holders could be in your future lol!
Um, seriously. Are you reading my mind? Because that's pretty much what I'm looking at. A patterned wallet, a change purse, and sunglass holders.:lmao:
Are you going to do a test? It is pretty, what is the fabric? It looks like satin in the pic. Hopefully it won't hurt your shoulder but since you are passing stuff into the backpack, you should be good!
I don't think I'll need a test with it. I could easily do one, but because I'm putting just purse stuff and the other things are going in the backpack, I'm pretty sure this will be fine. It's very, very similar to the bag I used to carry.
That is a perfect DH toting kind of backpack IMHO. And nicer (also IMHO) for your DS to get his first K backpack all to himself, brand new, next year.

My only headaches are frustration over finding a school. :headache:

My DH is pretty good about money too. Don't get me wrong, as evidenced by this trip report, I can be pretty spendy when I want to. But for the most part, I am the worrier, the thrifty one, the one who agonizes over every dang penny.

And in the Bali gold no less????
You know what, the only thing about that is the strap. It's not adjustable unless you knot it, right? And it's very thin. I'm afraid it would cut into my shoulder.

Yay! for the date night - doesn't matter what you do, any kind of date night is nice! The toys are cute, so is the new bag, and you can never have too many backpacks/sports bags when it comes to having boys - I don't know what my son does with them, but he just BEATS on them. I have to admit, I just bought a new bag too. I thought I was okay with the baggalini, but then I saw one at LL Bean - same size, kind of more of a sling shape, lots of pockets, and best of all, a non-slip shoulder strap. So I got it, and I'll have to try it out. Unfortunately, I threw away the tags for the baggalini, so I'll have to find use for it somehow.:confused3. Love your costume ideas, your son and your Mom will be so sweet! I have to start working on costumes for MNSSHP, the girls want to be Lilo and Noni, they'll be cute. I wish I was going to the party the same night as you all - I would've been able to spot your Jack Sparrow, I bet!

Love the update...
Good grab on the cool stuff for HRH.
Date night sounds nice! I am glad your Mom will take care of HRH so you guys can get out some and talk like adults!
I really wish I could see you guys all dressed up for MNSSHP! Nana chasing you guys with a cookie roller cracks me up. But you might want to get her one that is not made of solid wood...that would be heavy to carry around the parks all day. Maybe a spatula instead? :rotfl:
I am sorry about the stuff with school and your schedule. Sounds stressful.

You don't all need to match. You'll be together. Having fun. In Disney. That's MORE than enough! :goodvibes
I read the Harry Potter books so long ago I'm not sure what happened that made you cry but I do really want to see the latest movie!
We're almost 2 months from our trips!! :yay::yay::yay:

I must be losing my mind...I thought you were having doctors not listening to you issues...but maybe it wasn't headaches? Opps! sorry
Nope. No health issues here, other than my sanity. ;)
Look at all of those purchases!
I love the little stuffed Wall-E. I have been looking at those for months now and haven't broken down yet to get one. I think I should. :rolleyes1
I was so thrilled that I could get the two for $6.50. That was awesome.
I love the addidas backpack! It's manly enough yet still cute with the green!
It's got just enough color. :thumbsup2
Awww I really enjoy date nights, Phillip and I try to do those every once in awhile, even though we don't have kids its still nice to get out and just enjoy each other's company!!!!
OMG, I felt so weird! It's so rare that we have each other's full attention. :lmao:
Awww...seeing those beanies really makes me wish I had a DIsney store within driving distance of me, however I have learned that there is a Disney Store outlet near the hotel we are staying at in Austin this weekend so I will be going there...oh yes I will!!!
That's cool! We only have one close to us, and I rarely if ever make trips there. It's a little too far for a normal shopping excursion, but given that we were out anyway...
Awww..gift bags...we'll have to PM each other...I need some ideas on adult gift bags LOL!!!!
Well, that depends.
What adults are you planning gift bags for? pirate: or princess: or :hippie:
Yay! for the date night - doesn't matter what you do, any kind of date night is nice!
Oh, I hope you like your new LL Bean bag! I actually find their stuff to be very well made, so that's a plus. And you know how I feel about lots of pockets! :cloud9:
Well, I'll be sure to post headless pictures of us, so you'll get to see us then.
I bet your girls will be adorable! Whenever I watch that movie, it so reminds me of me and my sister when I was little. We've got a seven year age difference, so I remember some of those fights. :lmao:
You are going to make me want to go watch Harry Potter!
It was very, very good. I did however tell DH I will probably never watch it again.
At least one part.
my "imaginary friends on that crazy Disney website." :confused3
:rotfl2: I laugh because I know the feeling. I don't even bother to try to explain it to my co-workers. I just refer to you as my friends. Makes life so much easier.
I really wish I could see you guys all dressed up for MNSSHP! Nana chasing you guys with a cookie roller cracks me up. But you might want to get her one that is not made of solid wood...that would be heavy to carry around the parks all day. Maybe a spatula instead? :rotfl:
Well, she'll actually be in her ECV, so she can put the roller in the basket. I was thinking of it more as a prop for photos than anything else. But I'll definitely have to look and see what I can find, I would never give her anything heavy to carry and there is our luggage weight limit to consider. :lmao:
I am sorry about the stuff with school and your schedule. Sounds stressful.
Thank you very much for the support. I really, really appreciate it.
Well...another great TK update! :)
Thanks!

That's exactly what I said. Plus, she gets to match him, and I know people will be ooo-ing and ah-ing over them all night. Like I said, I think I've come up with a great costume idea for her, but I'm holding that trick up my sleeve for now. :thumbsup2
We're almost 2 months from our trips!! :yay::yay::yay:
I know, isn't it amazing? I was actually thinking of the timing of it today, and it's going to arrive so quickly.

Glad to hear the Halloween costumes are coming along nicely -- although I have to say that I am a little shocked that your mother is acting hurt that you won't match -- after all, DS wants to be Wall-E...okay, I am going to stop. ;)
Love the Disney treasures and the new bags -- I really like the Adidas backpack -- the colors are great! :thumbsup2

Eh. That's Mom. I love her, and hey, we all have our moments. I just had to put my foot down for my son because he's so excited about being Wall E.

One would even say the backpack is DIS-propriate. We just don't have to tell my DH.
Honestly, I really like green. My favorite color has always been blue, but lately I've been favoring green more and more.

The thought makes me a little giddy, I won't lie. Are you wearing a costume or a themed tee or anything specific for the party? :goodvibes
No full costume. I usually will dress up to the hilt for a Halloween party but I know I won't feel comfortable solo like that at Disney. But I do want to do something....t-shirt, hat....doodle-bop on my head....just don't know what yet.
Try Toys R Us for a plastic rolling pin for Nana.

I love your new bag and your new backpack. I too need a park bag and I think I am going to get a backpack that way my dh will help carry it too. I do need a new one because my LL Bean one is purple and he won't help me carry that. I think I need to check my Kohls.:rotfl: Yay for a date night with dh. I wish we had a Disney Store here. Ours closed :sad1: and the closest one to me is in Kansas City. I am going to try to get there at least once before my trip.
I am the one who was having problems with headaches and dr's not listening. I am still waiting to see the dr but he did give me a prescription so if I need it I can take it.

Wow, you really are a bargain shopper!!! I had no idea!
I am the epitome of frugal. It's a blessing and a curse.
For example, I haven't felt comfortable with my car for the past couple of months. When I drive it sometimes, it just feels wrong, almost like a transmission issue. It also needs new back brakes in September, which will run me another $400 at least, never mind what else could be wrong with it. I've had it looked at, and they inform me it's "fine," but it doesn't feel right. It's hard to explain it to them without sounding like someone who doesn't know anything about what she's talking about. Which is in essence what I am, but not how I wanted to be treated.
So I've thought about finally buying the car I've been coveting for about a year now. And when I went to check the trade in value on my car, it had tanked. From $6000 to $2300. Why?
It's a Saturn.
Hindsight. Always 20/20.
So now, I don't know that I can afford what I want, but I'm going to look at one on Thursday anyway. There's special pricing through Costco (typically $100 over invoice) so we'll see. :confused3 I really want something safe, but I don't relish the thought of a car payment when we have none.

The car issue really, really stinks. Same thing happened to me last year--the value of my car dropped dramatically over a 3 month period. It was an SUV. But I had to have a new car--the Explorer had 150K on it and although it was running okay, it was going to need more work over the next few months that I did not want the hassle of.
So I bought a car. At least I bought a Ford. They aren't in trouble like GM and Chrysler are. Yet.

No kidding! I wasn't even thinking that I needed a new bag for the parks then I eyed Tink's cute wristlet in the pics on your trip report and I've become obsessed with getting a wristlet. Then the talk of Veras, and raspberry fizz...
It's all gone downhill from there. Although I'm making myself hold off from buying anything online until I can go the mall and check one out in person.

I hear you. My car has almost 97,000 miles on it, and it carries some very precious cargo. Namely, my son.
Of course I'm worried about my safety, but when you've got little ones, it just compounds everything, you know?
I think I may have to bite the bullet and buy the car. The problem is that if we do that, it's a huge choice. It means we're not paying off DH's student loan this year, and we definitely won't be able to consider buying a house. Now, I'm very happy in our apartment, so the house thing doesn't bother me, although it would have been nice to have the $8000 tax credit. The student loan bothers me. In essence, if that were payed off, a car payment wouldn't hurt so much, you know?

I highly, highly, highly recommend you check them out in person. I went to a local store that carries Veras and I'm so glad I did. There was a ton of stuff I wanted to order online, but when I saw it in person, I didn't like it. Definitely go look before you succumb to the craze. ;)

Never a dull moment in the TK household.
Never. :sad2:
We backtrack slightly. When I was in college, I had a beautiful red betta named Obi Wan. He died on my birthday. The pet store felt so badly, they wanted to replace him. I said no. I didn't want a replacement, I wanted Obi Wan.
Yes, I've always had an inner five year old, what? :lmao:
They insisted.
They gave me a blue betta which I name Anakin. And that sucker lived just to spite me, I swear it. Behold, the power of the dark side. :darth:
So suffice it to say when driving home with my son one day in the car, upon hearing these fateful words, "Mama...I want a fish," I felt some amount of trepidation and a little excitement.
We live in a pet free apartment complex, but you're allowed to have fish. That's the only type of pet they'll allow here. Aquatic.
Quite fitting for this pirate family.
So I did my research. Took books out from the library, and it just so happened one of my neighbors was getting rid of a one gallon tank. Score: a free tank! I went to Walmart to purchase gravel, fake plants, I wanted a nice little home for our new friend.
I ended up calling the pet store before I set up the tank because the filter and tubing looked old to me. We went in and Jonathan (wonderful, wonderful Jonathan) helped us. He was great. I admitted I knew nothing. He told me everything I needed to know to get the tank set up, helped me pick out new tubing, water conditioner, and new filters, and sent me home with the proper instructions for getting our tank ready for our new as yet to be picked fish.
Now Jonathan, who was never condescending, just very informative, which I heartily appreciated, gave us a couple of options for some hearty, hopefully hard to kill fish.
What can I say, with my track record, I was nervous. I wanted to do absolutely everything right for DS, you know? Optimal fish environment!
Jonathan recommended minnows, guppies, danios, or bettas.
So after letting our tank acclimate for 48 hours we went back to see Jonathan at the pet store and pick out a fish.
DS looked at the minnows and danios and said no.
The guppies wouldn't be in until tomorrow.
Taking a deep breath I said, DS, "Do you want to go look at the bettas?"
"Yes, Mama."
:::sigh:::
DS picked out a beautiful red beta. I explained to DS that his betta was a boy, and what would he like to name him.
"Otto," he says, "like the fish in the book." At first I thought, they must have read something at preschool that prompted this whole fish thing, but in recently talking to my mother, she thinks that's the name of the fish in One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. It could very well be.
So we pay for Otto, some more supplies I needed and we're on our merry way. Now Otto is in a plastic cup with a snap on lid with a nice little airhole. I can tell it's plastic by feeling it, so as long as DS is careful, I think we'll be fine.
I make the mistake of letting DS carry Otto upstairs.
You can see where this is going right?
I know how klutzy my son is. I know that inherent genetics cause both him and I to have accidents from time to time. But he's four. It's his first pet. I'm thinking he'll be extra careful. I'm thinking he won't succumb to the genetic lot that I've given him. I'm wrong.
Because by the time I get up there, DS is in tears, saying I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry over and over.
And Otto is on the floor of our kitchen. Not in his cup, oh no. That broke in half! There's our new fish laying on the floor of the kitchen!!!!
:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:
At which point, I start saying, "Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no," over and over again.
DS - "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." :::sniff, sniff, tears dripping:::
TK - "Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no..."
I panic. I rip open the net that hasn't be sterilized and do my best to get Otto in there without handling him too much. I manage to get him in the net, place him gently on the kitchen counter and wrench open the lid to the tank.
I then gently place Otto in the tank, still in the net.
No following the directions from the pet store here. No place his cup in the tank to let him acclimate to the temparture, no put some tank water in so he gets used to it, just HELLO OTTO, WELCOME TO THE TK HOUSEHOLD!!!
OMG. Seriously.
If he lives, it'll be funny. So far, he looks fine. He's swimming around, and he ate (DS fed him once I got him calmed down), and he looks okay.
:::sigh:::
Welcome to my life. Never a dull moment.
Now this is trip related. Because we will have to get someone to watch Otto for us when we go away since it'll be for eight days.
See that nice tie-in?
And I do have to say, I'm a bit smitten. He's already swimming up to the side of the tank when I come over just like Obi Wan used to. And he'll follow my fingers on the side of the tank.
I mean, seriously. Who could resist that face?

This is so funny that you post this now. My dh and I have been talking about getting a fish for our dd for her birthday. Last night we agreed that this is what we are going to do. She really wants a dog but I am allergic. :cool1: I am not fond of dogs. I think it is because I got bit by the first dog I remember seeing. She needs no toys as she is the only grandchild on my side and the first grandaughter on my dh's side. She too has been talking about a fish. Otto is a very pretty fish.

We have a big salt water tank with live rock. Losing a $6 fish is nothing compared to losing a $60 fish....that stings the heart and the wallet.

Okay, I totally plan to respond to you both, but you will die laughing when you hear this.
The book is not One Fish, Two Fish.
It's "Otto, A Fish Out of Water" :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
OMG! How appropo!!!!! Mom just called to tell me. It's actually a book written by Dr. Suess' wife based on book he wrote, he gave her permission to redo it. :lmao:

Oooo...I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with a dog. I personally love dogs. The reason we live in a pet free is because I had a horrendous cat allergy. I get the shots and it's not as bad now, but it used to be so bad that my throat would close. Not good.
Thanks for saying Otto's pretty. I'm rather partial.

I too have bad allergies. When I was in 9th grade I was so sick I missed like 52 days of school. Well after tons of testing and almost having my adoindsand tonsils out they decided I should go to an allergist. Well I had been on a certain allergy med for so long that after 6 months of being off of it it was still in my blood stream. So they could never do the skin test but they did a blood test and discovered that I am severely allergic to cats, dogs, dust, mold, grass, ragweed, and some other weed that I don't remember. So I started in on the allergy shots then after a year they taught me how do give them to myself. I don't need them anymore but I think I need to find an allergist as I think I have developed food allergies.

Never a dull moment in the TK household.

I have a hamster like that. A regular ol' she-devil. I take care of her, because she's a living creature and no matter how nasty, she still needs care.
A few days after we got moved into our home here in FL, I found her hanging by the neck from the top of her wheel..... I kid you not. The shavings had accumulated at the bottom, rendering the wheel immobile, and somehow this hamster got her head stuck between the rungs at the top of the wheel. And there she hung, by the neck. Only she wasn't dead....
She's still going strong. I guarantee you she'll drop dead the day we arrive in Texas....just to make me move her one more time:headache:

"A Fish out of Water" was my son's favorite book when he was a toddler. I can recite it by memory. "Never feed him a lot. Never more than a spot! Or something may happen. You never know what."
Betas are VERY hearty fish. They live in dirty water in the streets in China. It is really difficult to hurt them. I think your Otto will be just fine! :) And he is beautiful!!

Okay, I'm doubly excited this evening.
We just got some major pixie dust!!! pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:
I know that we've all discussed before about my non-plan plans for the first two days. The only problem is that I know for sure I really want to see Big Bad VooDoo Daddy play in Epcot on Sunday, the 27th, our arrival day.
And the thing about that is, if you know you're going to a park, and you have more table service dining credits...shouldn't you use them? ;)
So I've been trying for quite a while now to snag a ressie.
Any ressie.
Okay, well not any. There are some places that we just don't want to eat.
Now part of the problem is that I've got conflicting times on the Eat to the Beat concert series. Allears says one thing, WDWinfo says another, and the WDW site doesn't list times. Grrr.
So, let's just assume that BBVDD is playing three times that night, because that's the thing both sites agree on.
When I got this ressie, I did a little happy dance, sitting down at the computer. And then DS came running over to see what was so much fun, and I bounced him up and down on my lap saying, "Yay! I got it! I finally got it!"
We are now the proud owners of a 5:45 dinner ressie at Rose and Crown.
I am SO excited! Not only have some of you been raving about it, but I literally do not remember eating there. It's highly possible that I have, and I was too little to remember. So I'm so excited to be doing something new and different with my boys! YAY!!!!
So now, we've got a dinner ressie for our first day, at a reasonable time, and hopefully I'll get to see BBVDD at some point. I'm hoping to hit the Visa Meet and Greet before dinner, just the three of us, because I think it would be a lot of fun.
This also leaves our second day, the 28th, wide open. No ressies. No plans. I swear on it. Honestly, I don't know what we'll do that day. If we wake up early, I could see us going to MK and hitting Fantasyland. If we don't, another park. If we feel like it, Downtown. Honestly, it's wide open, and I'm loving it. It's my only day that's wide open, and it feels great.
Now, I did say I was doubly blessed, and this is very true.
Not only did I score a fabulous, previously unattainable ressie...I was so shocked when the availbility popped up I snagged that and put it my cart to check out immediately...I also received a...portion of my MNSSHP costume in the mail today!
And it looks AWESOME!!!! And it fits!!!! And I have upward mobility in my arms!!!! Something I never had with the gold Elizabeth dress for those of you who don't know.
I am so excited.
But there shall be no pictures.
Mwa-ha-ha.
Savvy?
There are too many of you who are going to meet me at the party, and I really want to surprise you. Let's just say I'll make quite a fitting companion for my Capatin Jack Sparrow husband.

I don't know for sure. I think Illuminations is at 9 so there was one site that had their last concert uncomfortably close to that - I think it would be the earlier set.

Excellent! I actually see the children's menu choices are fairly decent here. One of the options for an app is the soup or carrots and celery sticks (which he likes). For dinner they can choose from bangers and mash, cottage pie, and...was it mac and cheese? I think he'd like the bangers and mash, but just in case, I think I'll get that cheese plate for us to share. This should be fun for us all!

Halloween is a big deal at school. We have a costume parade every year around the courtyard with parents taking photos and cheering us (students AND teachers) on. So, I need something original. I've done Dorothy complete with Toto in a basket, Little Red Riding Hood with a basket of treats, and Medusa with snakes pinned in my hair. I need ideas for this year.
Is your son excited about MNSSHP?

SO much fun! I love Halloween. I swear, it's my favorite holiday. Without a doubt, all tied up in my being an October baby.

Ohhh you can have costume birthday parties! Lucky girl!!!
A pirate is a great idea. After Dorothy and Little Red, I'm all about being a villian. Queen of Hearts and Maleficent (one of my fav Disney characters) are possibilities as well.
For an adult party at a club/bar, I'm thinking of going as Bret Michaels and buying a blonde wig. A few of my friends will be the Rock of Love girls.

I think HRH may have gotten the name Otto from another book in the Dr. Seuss collection---one of those P.D. Eastman ones---A Fish Out of Water. It is about a boy who has a pet fish named Otto that he feeds too much and grows too big. I loved it when I was little.

There is no better baby blankie than a hand made soft crocheted one. DS10 had his blue blankie (made by his godmother's grandmother) ...that he loved to death and then absconded with DS8's yellow blanket (made by a relative) which is even more destroyed.
He still sleeps with yellow blankie :)

Ugh.
As in UGH.
And yuck.
So real life is going to intrude for a moment here, but instead of tales of our newest fishy friend's escape from certain death, this has to do with another tale of certain death.
As in it will happen. Thank goodness I'm not referring to people! Don't get me wrong.
I'm talking about my car. If all I had to worry about was the good captain and the black pearl and having enough rum, boy would life be so much simpler. But it's not. Of course, I would most likely have to worry about terrible beasties and sea godesses, so perhaps that would have its own trials.
I've felt my car has been weird for a while now, and I was almost positive it was the transmission. Long story short, I was right. To the tune of $2500 for a new trannie. And no, the one I currently have cannot be serviced. Never mind the new rear brakes that should cost me $400 in September. My car is old. It has almost 97,000 on it. We are outgrowing it. And I don't mean that in the sense of I feel entitled to something "better," I mean quite literally, my son's feet touch the back of the front seat when he's in his car seat. Now, I know he won't be a car seat forever but still. I've had my car for 8 years, and it's probably time.
The problem is that the only car that I really want is pricey.
Actually, it's really reasonable for what it is, but it's the sticker shock of putting that much money down on one item at one time. It means not buying a house. It means having to rebuild the whole savings before we can have another baby. Or if we decide to take the plunge and have another little pirate (because what we need in this world is some more chaos, I swear ;)), it means putting school for me on hold.
My mother says I think too much. That I need to stop thinking about everything and focus on one thing. And in some senses, she's right. I did write a whole chapter not too long ago about not worrying anymore.
Hardee har har. I have been trying, I really have. Trying to let go, but it's so hard! My type A personality keeps fighting my creative brain and it's not pretty.
Well, DH and I have been good little savers, and we knew our money would be going to something. The ultimate hope was that it would pay off the student loan.
Which sadly, is roughly the amount of the down payment I'll need to put down on this car to make it affordable. Fortunately, student loan interest is tax deductible, so that's something.
I still haven't committed to buying it. Actually, I went through QUITE a rigomarole which the "business manager" at a dealership and I ended up calling the general manager to complain about him. I won't go into detail but suffice it to say he was walking a very fine line with his treatment of me as a woman and I wouldn't stand for it. It disgusted me. So now I have the general manager bending over backwards, begging me to come back, telling me he'll take a look at my car and see if he can give me more in a trade in value for it than what they'd previously estimated.
I know, I know. It's a good position to be in, right?
And look:

Royal Blue Pearl
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/BL_exl4wd_34FRONT.jpg
Glaciar Blue Metallic
It's pretty, no? Yes, dear friends. It's a Honda CR-V. And their marketing is quite apt. I've been craving this car for a couple of years now. Ever since they changed the body style. I love it. I love the room it has, I love the way it drives, I love the way it looks, I love the room it has, I love the way it looks... ;) But what is such a kicker for me in addition to all the little fun things about this compact SUV? I love the safety ratings. I love the fact that it's a Honda. I love the fact that it's durable and built to last. That I'll most likely have this car up to 100,000 with little to no maintenance required.
By the by, those are the colors I'm between. I'm leaning towards the Green Tea Metallic, but I'm really worried I won't love it in a few years. I don't know if any of you have ever seen it in person, but it's just such a pretty color, and it's different. I'm also very attracted to the Royal Blue Pearl. The fact that it has pearl in the name is already a plus. pirate: But I think it looks classy. Very classy. And I know I'll like it. The Glaciar Blue Metallic is very pretty, but it's virtually the same color car I have now. I really don't want the same color I have now. I'd like to make a break from that car, and enter into a new world with this one. I don't know how to explain it, but it's like a new beginning. What I have now is what I had when I got out of college, so it almost feels like this is really my first adult car. My first family car. Whereas I picked my car before solely based on me, I'm now picking based on me and my pirate crew.
So we'll see what happens. Where the chips fall.
And to draw this into the trip, well, heck it relates anyway. I can tell you right now that if I buy a car you can say goodbye to all my shopping chapters. Goodbye to my bargain hunting at Kohl's, goodbye to my search for Veras, goodbye to trip shopping in general. Good thing I was mostly done anyway! :lmao: But honestly, if we do this, I'll have a monthly car payment now, and although we can afford it, money will start to get very tight. Between a car payment and having put DS in preschool two days a week, we can just kiss my paycheck goodbye. Fortunately, we've been banking it, and that's one of the reasons we can do such a good down payment, so, yay us. But it still hurts. It hurts for me to spend that much. I don't know how to do it. I feel like my heart is palpitating just thinking about it.
I need to calm down. One step at a time. Take my car back to the dealership, only deal with the general manager, and see what he can do for me. If it's not good, it's not good.
Then what will I drive? :lmao:
So, in light of the fact that there may be no more shopping chapters, I proudly bring to you my first and possibly only Vera purchase for this trip.
It's cute.
It's little.
And it's practical.
It's the Euro Wallet. And I'm really excited about it for a lot of reasons. I got it for an excellent price on Ebay. This retails for around $27, and I paid under $16 with shipping. It's a cute print, it has a ton of card slots, two slots for money (sized big enough for Euros, hence the name), the id slot, and a zippered coin pouch. And the fact of the matter is, I really needed a new wallet. I've had the same Winnie the Pooh wallet for many, many years, and it is adorable and cute and in a sad state of disrepair.
So suffice it to say I was quite excited when my Vera arrived.

Whatever that may be. :lmao:

Green Tea Metallic
I LOVE this color. Get it. Don't second guess yourself. You need the car; you have the money; trust that the universe will take care of the details. (My husband hates this attitude, but the universe has always come through for me. Like my grandfather always said: "If the only problem you have is money, then you don't really have a problem.")

(My husband hates this attitude, but the universe has always come through for me. Like my grandfather always said: "If the only problem you have is money, then you don't really have a problem.")
My husband just told me that if I don't buy this color I'll regret it. He's probably right. He knows me too well! :lmao:
You know, I tend to agree with your grandfather. I don't know how many people on these boards are religious, but you know that saying about how the good Lord will provide?
Honestly, I know we've worked our butts off, and I know we've saved our butts off, and we're finally at a point in our lives where we're more financially secure than we've ever been, and I sort of feel like God is looking out for me. I know He always was, and I know that everything I've been through has brought me to this point.
And it does make me sound like a whiner, considering that we do have the funds for this. It's just so hard for me to make this big purchase, I don't know how to describe it. My husband and I, we've never bought anything like this. We don't own a house, we had both our cars when we were married. This would be the first major purchase.
I know it'll be the first of many and I need to get over it, but it feels momentous.
Like maybe I need a glass...or a bottle of champagne. :lmao:
It's adorable! I think you'll love it!
I'm totally saving it for the trip, too. So exciting!
Good luck with the car decision. I'll wish you a little Cptn Jack attitude to help you with your haggling. pirate:

While I'm painfully disappointed that they do not offer "Black Pearl" as a color choice....:headache:...I'm giving a 2-thumbs up to Green Tea Metallic.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
Oh, and I have to agree with your mom.....don't think so much, woman!! Sometimes ya just gotta live, kwim??
Love the "little Vera!" I could use a new wallet myself. Mine is a Mickey motif, from The World of course. But it's wearing out, sadly.... But then again, I don't suppose it much matters what kind of wallet I have if I don't have any money to put in it!!...:rotfl2:

Oh, TK, I understand completely about the angst of laying out that much money at once and adding a payment into your budget. I get all panicky just thinking about things like that!
On the bright side, I love the Green Tea color! Very cool and different! I know I have said it before, but I loved our CR-V. One of my favorite cars ever!

Oh gosh I'm so sorry about your car. I've had major car problems myself a few years ago and it's just horrible. I definitely think you should go for the car. I love hondas. I'm debating between the green tea one and the royal blue pearl. I myself must say I love blue so that would probably be my pick but I think you should go with your first instinct and go with the green tea. I do like that one. You know you always hem and haw and then go back to your first choice, everyone does!! Good luck with your purchase!! Oh and very cute wallet, just go myself a vera purse, so very excited!

Like CP said I can totally relate to the angst of putting down the large amount of money. You know its something you have to do, because well you need a car to drive, but still its a big decision. However I know without a doubt you will make the right one. You will think it through and in the end you will make the right decision for you and your family!!!!
I too will comment on how much I like the Green Tea Metallic...very nice!! I also like the look of that car, I'm afraid car shopping will be in my and Phillip's future...right now I'm just hoping our car makes it another year!!!!

I remember you talking about how much you loved your CR-V. I keep reminding myself of that. CP loved her car. CP loved her car. It's like a mantra. Never mind that I love the car, at least I know one other person who did! And, honestly, I've never met a CR-V owner (I have some customers who have them) who doesn't love that car.
Caffe Latte -- you have good taste, my friend! ;)
You noticed that, eh? I have to say, the print is much cuter in person than internet pictures convey! I really like it.

I really am having a hard time considering anything other than a Honda. Now that I have a family to think of, it's the strength and the durability and the safety that I want in a car. I'm totally losing gas mileage with moving up to the CR-V, and dare I say I almost don't care. Almost. My financial side thinks about everything, but my heart wants to go for it.
Love the car, hope everything works out well for you with it. Laying out that much money is always scary!
Thank you!

Oh, TK. I too am an agonizer. And ironically enough also in the midst of a car purchase. Mine is not going well - I've actually signed the papers and they aren't giving me the car (long story).
BUT I will say I agree with your mom, and another poster's grandfather and others that you can't worry too much. One thing at a time. "Stuff" happens- not always at the right moment and hardly ever when we're fully prepared and ready for it. You just have to plunge ahead and manage it. And you will! :goodvibes
I do know what you mean about it being a lot of $$$, though. Gulp. :scared:

You definitely need a car. And a Honda is a great investment! You can drive that car for quite some time!
I would buy a color that doesn't match your old one.
And just go with your gut on the color.
Have you compared insurance rates on the colors...I know red costs more on insurance...not sure about a good green color.

Don't be nice. Honestly. That's a horrible thing to say, but don't. It's a business, it's a transaction, and as such, you deserve good customer service. I'd like to say excellent customer service but that's so rare nowadays I'll settle for good.

That's true! And I need to think about car payments not in terms of 5 years of payments, but more in terms of, I'm going to drive this car for at least ten years, and that's five years without payments! :thumbsup2

Ugh.
If all I had to worry about was the good captain and the black pearl and having enough rum, boy would life be so much simpler. But it's not. Of course, I would most likely have to worry about terrible beasties and sea godesses, so perhaps that would have its own trials.
And look:

Seriously. Think about it. If we all thought that hard and really COULD control anything....there would likely be a lot less little pirates. If you put it on paper, you can never afford 1 and certainly not more than one. But yet, we all figure it out.
I do, very much, believe things happen for a reason and that ultimately, it all works out as it's meant to be. It's just happened too many times for me to believe otherwise. It'd be nice if all we had to worry about was having enough rum. But then truly, wouldn't that get boring?

It's true. Totally true. And I am thinking too much about everything. I need to take one decision at a time. I think a lot of this foolishly stems from my issues with this being a milestone birthday and all the things I thought I'd have by now. But that has a complete disregard for what I do have and how far we've come, and that's just silly. We are very, very blessed.

AKA, TK's new Honda CR-V.
:banana::banana::banana::yay::yay::yay:
:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::cool1::cool1::cool1:
:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::dance3::dance3::dance3:
Now where are the pictures, you may demand.
And to this I say, I just got home and it's dark outside. Alas! Do not cry in vain! I promise to take/upload soon! My mother took a ton, of course, but she hasn't gotten them on the computer yet, so I'm afraid I must make you wait.
After much deliberating, we decided to purchase a new 2009 CR-V. It was rather exciting actually. Upon my not so stellar first visit to the dealership, I then on dealt with the manager, who hugely bumped up the value of my trade in, threw in some extras for me, and made the car actually...affordable. It'll still be a little stretch in our budget, but nothing so bad that we can't handle it. And I did have to put down a chunk of change to make our monthly payments manageable, but nothing like what I was thinking before. And that made me so happy. And heart palpitation free, for the most part.
So today, I became the proud owner of my new car, and after driving around a bit today, I decided a few things.
One, I love it.
Two, it feels completely surreal and like it's almost too good for me. I'm not used to all these features and how wonderful it rides and how comfortable it is.
Three, my son's awe over it was priceless.
And four, the car is decidely female, and as such deserved a feminine name.
But something strong.
Something pirate. Something that said I belong to TK and also, I belong to no one!
Calypso, Goddess of the Sea.
A little pirate and a little goddess.
I think it's quite befitting. :thumbsup2
And, as always, here's your ptr tie in. I was actually able to put a portion of my down payment on my Disney Visa.
Can you say reward dollars? CHA-CHING! :thumbsup2

Antennae?
Anyway. :lmao: Actually, quite sad. I'd already cleaned out my old car, but had a last few things in it, and they ended up coming to me at work to get it...long story...anyway, I took everything out...but I totally forgot to take my Mickey antenna topper off of it.
I hope whoever buys my old car enjoys it. :lmao: It's not big deal, because I have a ton of them anyway, but a felt a bit sad.

Actually, no. Most new cars don't have antennas.

It's unfortunate, the morning light is so soft, you can't really see how the metallic paint sparkles in the sunlight. It's a gorgeous color, I'm so glad I picked it.
It's no coincidence that my son decided he needed to wear a pirate shirt to preschool today. :lmao: Actually, it's quite sweet, he's wearing a shirt that Tink made for him. It's a got the jolly roger on the front and it says Black Pearl, First Mate, with a picture of the Pearl on the back.
I think we're going to need to christen the car with the POTC soundtrack. :thumbsup2

We really are all loving this car! It's a smooth ride, and of course, the first CD we played in it was the first Pirate's soundtrack. We have since christened it with some of our favorite Disney CDs, like the 50 year (Disneyland) anniversary CD, and the MK Special Events (MNSSHP music) CD. Very, very nice!

You ever have one of those moments of clarity that just takes your breath away?
I had one of those yesterday. It was finally hot enough (and not raining enough) to go swimming in Nana's pool and not freeze to death. So after I got home from work, HRH and I got ready to head on out. We had some errands to run first, and did those, and then picked up Mom and headed to Nana's.
After we were finished swimming, we noshed on my lovely seven layer dip with yummy tortilla chips. Sometimes it's fun to have junk for dinner. And given that I'd totally skipped lunch (an accident, I assure you) I was starving!
So we're all sitting at Nana's table and I'm so grateful. I'd had a very challenging week at work, one that I was grateful to have over. And I was actually craving some time with Mom, Nana, HRH, and myself. Some chill time with a glass of wine and nachos (so classy, ha ha) and just sitting and enjoying like when I was a kid and I went swimming at Nana's. Although, when I was a kid, it would have been soda, not wine. :lmao:
As I said, we're sitting at the table chatting, and I say to HRH, "When are we going to Disney? What month?" And he looks at me blankly. Usually he'll say September.
And then, Nana says, "Next month."
And I thought, oh my god.
That was my moment of clarity. Even though it is essentially two months away, I am going to Disney World next month.
Amazing. On the ptr front, as you all know, I charged a portion of my down payment on my new car on the Disney Visa card, so I'll be getting some hefty reward dollars for that. I also went ahead and transferred the money from our vacation savings in preparation for paying off the trip. I went ahead and charged that to the Disney Visa as well, so that's all set.
Unfortunately, I did it online and they automatically attached my credit card to my room for charging privileges while we're there. I never, ever do that, for many, many reasons, and I was quite displeased. I called, and very nicely asked to have it removed, but they apparently don't have the capability to do that. I can request it at check in. I was upset, but got over it. We'll have to take care of it when we get there.
At least I'm satisfied in the knowledge that the trip is paid for. I've also been socking away money from DH's weekend job for spending and to upgrade us all to annuals. The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards it. It pretty much guarantees we'll take another trip before HRH goes to kindergarten, and I'm all for it. I have a time of year I'm leaning towards as well, but we'll save that for later. ;)
Now I've also been a busy little bee in that certain DISers...you know who you are...have asked me to make tie dye shirts for them. Basically, I've started a little side business. I have a separate e-mail address, Paypal account, and everything set aside for it, and it's rather exciting. I'm even thinking of extending to Ebay and seeing how that goes. You never know. If anyone wants info, please PM me, I don't want to disobey DIS rules. :thumbsup2
So, without further ado, here are the fruits of my labor.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll289/tarzanskat/DSCI04062-1.jpg
I actually used a new technique this time. Instead of the rather tedious stitching process, I just banded a circle and then painted on the Mickey heads afterwards. I really like the way these came out, because there's a little bit more control over the integrity of the Mickey head. I hope you like them! You know who you are. ;)
Anyway, I'm going to be making another round this weekend hopefully, perhaps even later today. And that's pretty much it for the trip front.
I'm debating putting a LGMH on my purse. There are so many of you that may run into us on this trip. I normally don't identify myself in this way, but I have a few planned meets as well, so I'm almost thinking, why not?
How do you go about making those? What's the best way? I have some left over from my Home Depot raids last year. :lmao: Do you laminate? Instruct me, wise DISers. :thumbsup2

The closer your trip gets, the more exciting, right? I had one of those clarity moments when I saw my ticker yesterday that said, "Two months." I must get on the ball with this whole planning thing. I don't feel like I have done much at all with it. I have a hotel room and two ADRs -- that's it! And some DIS meets planned. :thumbsup2
I never attach a credit card to my room either, so I can identify with your consternation!

Actually, regardless of if you make the payment now or wait until your cycle ends, it will credit you whatever your purchases were during that cycle. So you should have no problem if you want to take care of that right away. I happen to be near the end of mine anyway, so riding it out for a few days is no biggie. :thumbsup2

Anyway, I'll be easy to locate (or hard to ignore, depending on your point of view). DD5 ( who looks like the sweetest little angel with her huge blue eyes) will be yelling at him with a mouth like sailor. DH will be quietly ignoring all this while he enjoys a very large Guinness, and I will be looking for a window in the bathroom to crawl out of. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating, but just a little.

I didn't think you'd actually DO it!! But you did it wrong, if my calculator and my genious wants-to-be-an-engineer son say that it should be:
100/2= 50%
50/2= 25%
25/2=12.5%
12.5/2= 6.25%
6.25/2= 3.125%
So, it's even less than that!! :lmao::lmao:

On the right hand side of that screen, there's a place that says account details. When I click on that, I'm able to see the amount of reward dollars on the bottom left. I know there's another way to do it as well, I just can't remember what it is.

Everyone's favorite kind of arithmetic, right? :lmao:
So today I'm on the WDW website, and I'm really pricing out what our passes cost for this trip and what the price difference is to upgrade us all to annual passes.
And that grand total, with tax would be a little over $632.
This is worth it, right? I have a hard time shelling out that amount of cash on something (think about all the effort it took for me to buy my car LOL), but if I plan to go in January with Mom and again as the three of us before DS goes to kindergarten, it does make sense.
Right?
I think so.
Sort of. :lmao:
I'm a mess this morning. I'm just trying to be more budget minded now that we've bought the new car. I'm looking at that car as a big ole gift to myself. Therefore, there is no more frivilous spending. No more Kohl's, no more extras, nothing bought unless it is needed.
Now we're not going to live like monks, but this is the mindset I have. I'm still getting DS a Happy Meal every now and then, but we're at a point here where my total paycheck is eaten up by health insurance, preschool, and my car. There is no extra any more. I think the hardest part for me was taking my paycheck and moving my direct deposit from my savings back into my checking account. But I love my car, and it was a necessary purchase. If your'e going to spend that much money on something, you should love it.
And so here I am, sort of wondering, do I have the money to do two more trips in a year? Will I be able to build up my tie dye business enough to actually make some extra money to put towards Disney trips? I've already had a lot of interest, and I'm actually going to start my own little creative venture here. For a long time, creativity and the spontaneity of art has been missing from my life, and it's time to get back into that. Given that I can't go back to school for at least a year (don't know if I mentioned that, but the accelerated program I've found I already missed the deadline for so I'm looking at starting in October of 2010), it gives me plenty of time to take my days off and focus on some things that I really love to do.
Painting, the new love of tie dye, crocheting, and new crafts as well. I'm hoping to start my own little side business to supplement our income, and also, to just have fun. I could use some more fun. I have a wonderful balance going with my little boy right now, we do lots of things during the summer and get out, and DH and I are at a good place, I just feel it's me that's lacking in something, and the tie dye brought that back out in me.
But I know these things take time and so I hesitate as to whether or not the $632 is a good idea.
Most likely it is. I mean, if you plan on going for at least another week long trip, it'll save you $200+ on tickets. So that in and of itself is worth it, never mind the possibility of my going in January for a weekend with my mom.
I just need someone...okay, you know what...I need Heidi to tell me whether or not this makes sense. No pressure, hon. :lmao: You're so good with all the number stuff, I really appreciate it when you take it and break it down. :goodvibes
And everyone, please feel free to weigh in. I'm just trying to decide what the responsible choice is here.
Of course, my heart always wants to plan another Disney trip. Who doesn't?

It's a tough call on the tickets. I know as I'm going through the same thing right now trying to decide if I'm really going to make multiple trips this year. I want to, yes, but is it really the most fiscally intelligent thing to do right now?
If you have any doubts, why not look into just upgrading yours to an Annual Pass. That way you'd still get to take advantage of any discounts they offer. I think I've read that as long as your going to use them for at least 10 days you'll recoup your money, so even if you just go this fall and then with your mom you'll recoup your money.
As for the shirts, if your heart is in it, and you enjoy doing it then go for it. I truly believe that doing things you enjoy is one of the most important things in life, and if you can use it to help finance some Disney vacations all the better. At least you won't find yourself begrudging the time you spend working on them.

From someone who has an AP for me it was a fantastic deal!! If you are seriously considering taking another trip then it is well worth it not having to buy tickets...and if you are considering 3 trips then you will make back your money!!!! At this point my first day of May trip, made up for my AP and means that the rest of the year thru January I'm going free to Disney..and what better feeling is that!!!

I think you should upgrade to APs especially if you are pretty sure you will be taking a vacation next year! Don't forget those discounted rooms and the World of Disney discount as well! :thumbsup2
