I would like to see the pictures you took in 2008- I said 'Best' in the title but that could also mean the most memorable or the most significant to you personally. Feel free to elaborate on the pictures. I selected one from each month which kind of frustrated me because some months I had a couple shots I really wanted to include and some months it was a stretch to find anything. But here goes:

(Large size files, EXIF and such can be seen in the Flickr set HERE (http://www.flickr.com/photos/capturelifeinaction/sets/72157611643433389/).)

January - Ybor City Florida - My first night photography outing of the year. Always good to get your Tattoo's somewhere that does the removal also.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3212/3139628311_60a1c668b7.jpg

February - Clearwater Beach Sunset - Photo shoot on Clearwater Beach and Johns Pass with Greg and Jon on Nikon Cafe.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3202/3140458520_05aec2bc3b.jpg

March - Birthday Desert - Dinner at Ohana to celebrate birthdays (both my fathers and mine.) This is one of the best deserts in all of Disney in my opinion.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3212/3140458640_e4efe4caf9.jpg

April - Rock Dove in Flight - Taken at Pier 60 in Clearwater Florida. Taken with the 70-200vr.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3131/3139628833_0228c0d3ea.jpg

May - My Lovely Wife Kelly - One of the few pictures I have taken of her that she actually likes. Also taken with the 70-200vr.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3256/3139629003_3bc786f64d.jpg

June - Lightning over Tomorrowland - One of my few and far between solo picture taking trips to Disney.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3127/3139629191_f20fd8cc8b.jpg

July - Two bucks in Cades Cove - My favorite non-family picture from the week we spent in the mountains.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3143/3139629429_ccf090c9e9.jpg

August - Gustav Fringe - Clearwater Beach Florida feels the fringe effects of Hurricane Gustav which went on to strike Louisiana. Also one of my first D700- 20mm is wide angle again!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3209/3140459450_64abaf1eeb.jpg

September - First Day in Jazz Class - Camryn is happy to be back in dance class after summer break. I really like the B&W on this one.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3286/3139629685_3c62ba1e56.jpg

October - Insulin Syringe - In October we discovered Camryn has Type-1 Diabetes. Needles are now part of our daily routine.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3260/3139629865_1febf1408a.jpg

November - William and Jamie - One of my favorite shots from the one and only wedding I shot in 2008. Taken with the 180/2.8.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3156/3139629983_daa8bca7b0.jpg

December - Daddy Daughters Day - Spent the day at the park with the girls while Mom got some things done. My favorite shot of the day taken with the 105mm f2.8 Micro AIS.

Great photos Jeff, I really like the one of your dessert and your daughter at her dance class, I agree...the black and white is nice, is adds a little something to it.

Here are some of mine, I've only had my D60 since the end of September, so the pickings were slim...but these were the ones I like best.

1. September - I believe this is the 46th click of the shutter on my first dSLR - the Nikon D60. It is one of our cats, Mr. Winkle who was born under our bed right before Christmas last year. I like the colors of the sheet behind her (yes, it's a her even though her name is Mr.), the curious look on her face and the fact that even though it's just a snapshot on full auto, it's a much better quality photo than I had ever taken with my P&S.

http://annnewjerz.smugmug.com/photos/390462808_V4vXT-L.jpg

2. October - This is a picture that I took while I was on my first outing with my D60, walking around our hometown in NJ just giving my 18-200mmVR a test run. I'm not sure why I like this one, but I do, maybe the color or maybe the fact that I think he looks sort of lonely and down and out...it's the first photo I got an enlarged print of :goodvibes

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_VaHhKb5UpA8/SOgBe8OgBlI/AAAAAAAAAxU/qFfjAyAzsUc/s720/DSC_0002.JPG

3. November - I couldn't decide between these two, so I'm picking both (I hope that's okay). The first is of our Golden Retriever Mickey, the second is of another one of our cats, Toby sitting with my DH. Both of these were taken when I got my 50mm f/1.8 and was playing around with it in the living room.

http://annnewjerz.smugmug.com/photos/409456530_44mq8-L.jpg

4. December - Photo taken at a co-workers house during a shoot with them and their first child, a little less than one month old. I'm sure this wasn't their favorite shot, but it was mine! I think it helps depict a little bit of the stress and chaos surrounding bringing home your first baby from the hospital and trying to get into a routine (although I'm not sure, because I have none) :rotfl:

http://annnewjerz.smugmug.com/photos/434381465_9dS5X-L.jpg

Definitely looking forward to all of the photos I'll get in 2009 and posting my full 12-month series next year!! :thumbsup2

I always look forward to this thread at the end of each year.

Some great images thus far, I'll try and add to it.

Mine aren't in any particular order:

Night shot of Boston as seen from Logan Airport:

Quite possibly one of my most favorite pictures I've ever taken. My DD:

Youngest DS having fun on one of the toys of my childhood that my parents still have. A good old fashion rocking horse:

Hey K's. Welcome to the boards.

I won't go strictly by month because I have a couple of months during which I didn't do any significant shooting. I'll just spread out across the year as well as possible.

This one is from a photo club outing to a glass blowers shop.
http://photos.barbierifamily.org/photos/252582885_Z3EAQ-L.jpg

This one is from a trip we took to the Monterey area. It's a shot of my younger son sitting on the beach in Carmel.
http://photos.barbierifamily.org/photos/281452731_eRxg2-L.jpg

April was a quiet month for me photographically, so I'll post this bug shot I took. I was just mucking about with my new macro lens.
http://photos.barbierifamily.org/photos/285322472_TmTMm-L.jpg

In May, I took this self portrait while riding my bike. It was shortly after I started riding my bike into work a couple of times a week. It was a self-portrait taken with the camera mounted to the handle bars.
http://photos.barbierifamily.org/photos/289049186_jNovw-L.jpg

This is one of the first shots taken with my new G9. It was at the opening day of our new aquatic park.
http://photos.barbierifamily.org/photos/321936882_KgX4D-L.jpg

Here's a fireworks shot taken on Fourth of July.
http://photos.barbierifamily.org/photos/325775504_cPhoz-L.jpg

I have no idea how to reduce a trip to the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and Rocky Mountain National Park down to one photo. Here's one that I like because it is our home on the trip rather than just another waterfall shot that anyone could have taken.
http://photos.barbierifamily.org/photos/359169742_ef435-L.jpg

In September, we got walloped by Hurricane Ike. We were without power for two weeks. During that time, neighbors took turns hosting evening cookouts. This picture was taken at one in which the kids were given glow sticks.
http://photos.barbierifamily.org/photos/377311299_bfRXt-L.jpg

This is a shot from our Halloween shoot. It's my younger son in a costume that I never really understood. It was some sort of Pokemon that can look like anyone. Still, it's better looking than the freaky costume of my older son, who dressed as a leprechaun on a toadstool.
http://photos.barbierifamily.org/photos/408163883_Nxpnj-L.jpg

Here's a shot from my fall portrait shoot. I actually did a session with my own kids this time. That was my first studio session with them.
http://photos.barbierifamily.org/photos/412825530_m5BgB-L.jpg

Here's a shot of my son in a really cool tree near where we camped over Thanksgiving weekend.
http://photos.barbierifamily.org/photos/431628647_hWsBe-L.jpg

Here's a shot of my wife and kids at the neighborhood Candlelight Carols celebration a few nights before Christmas. It was also my first real shoot with my new 5D Mark II.

I can't get enough of looking at the leaves in the late fall, especially when they turn such a vivid shade of red. They do look a lot like maple leaves.

But be careful not to step on the "gumballs" in bare feet!

There's a very tall one growing about 30 feet from where I'm sitting. I can't get enough of looking at the leaves in the late fall, especially when they turn such a vivid shade of red. They do look a lot like maple leaves.

But be careful not to step on the "gumballs" in bare feet!

SSB

OUCH ... the one I took the picture of is in our town's little community park and I dont go in barefeet so no worries there.

I am really enjoying this thread and looking at everyone's pictures .. they are all fantastic!!!

What awesome Pictures from everyone. Well I could only come up with 7 that really caught my attention. Not the best photography but still learning the ropes, so these are the ones I liked the most.

Did not take too many pics after our trip to Florida in December 2007. My Dad has been really sick and the only outing we have had was a 2 day trip to Northern New Brunswick (2 hours from Home) in October as well as some pics of our cats.

All taken with the Canon S5 IS...Next year I hope to dazzle you all with the Pics from my new XSi...

Well here is my shots...Not great but I love them anyways.

My Bébé's nose (he's 16 years old)

Acadian Light House (It's painted to look like the Acadian flag. The Acadians are the decendants of French settlers and we still proudly speak French but we are not to be confused with the French People from Quebec)

The 3 next ones are parts of a statue I like in a National Park in New Brunswick Canada.

I work 12-15 hours a day, seven days a week from Mid-May to Mid-October so no time to take pics unless they are outside my office like this one...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Photobearsam/Samantha/IMG_4359.jpg

All 3 of our cats together...THIS NEVER happens...(not a great shot but I am thankful I even got one of this monumental event)

Sure. :) I used an action called midnight (something - can't remember exactly). I got it from http://www.ezactions.com they are not free, but not expensive either and they work for either elements or full photoshop. After that I put a vignette around it and sharpened.

All your photos are fabulous!! :worship: I will share some, too, if I may! I haven't been out with my camera much this year, but I plan to next year - one of my resolutions, I think! So in no particular order -

Wivenhoe Dam - our major water supply dam for Brisbane, towards the end of a very serious drought. The dam level was about 17% and we were (and still are) on severe water restrictions. Usually the brown areas are under about 10-20 feet of water!

Thanks Jen! I thought it might be photoshop (or elements) specific so no go for me. I'll have to see if I can find something similar though.

Love this thread! There are some really amazing photos here! I've been away for a while, and as I searched for my top 12 pics of '08, I figured out why. We did SO MUCH last year! We've traveled a LOT! It was a very busy year for us. I'm telling you now, I went over 12. There were a couple "ties" I just couldn't break. Sorry! Anyway, here goes...

From our hotel room at the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago in January. We were supposed to be in Disneyland. It was to be the hubby's first flight ever! But our flight was cancelled due to mechanical failure, he flipped, and we went to Chicago instead. Had a really great weekend though!
http://lyndapphotography.smugmug.com/photos/244582061_TdYiq-L.jpg

OK, I didn't actually take this (Does that mean it doesn't count towards the 12? :rotfl: ), but this is from our WDW trip in May. That's DH and myself on the left, celebrating our anniversary. We were able to bring friends with us - my best friend from high school and her husband, who celebrate their anniversary the day before us, and another friend of mine, who was celebrating her birthday, and her husband, who was celebrating his graduation from the University of Illinois! We had a lot to celebrate!
http://lyndapphotography.smugmug.com/photos/301964101_Fv3Fq-L.jpg

I DID take this on our May trip! The tigers get active at the end of the day. This one didn't like it when another invaded his territory.
http://lyndapphotography.smugmug.com/photos/306213715_ZCnPc-L.jpg

From the first wedding I did last year. This one was using my lensbaby.
http://lyndapphotography.smugmug.com/photos/349268266_iX72u-L.jpg

Remember the friends who celebrate their anniversary the day before my DH and I? Well, they both work at the Indianapolis Zoo, so we went there about 4 times last year. The next two photos are both from our June visit, when they had their temporary koala exhibit. It was really tough to narrow down the zoo pics because there are SO MANY!
http://lyndapphotography.smugmug.com/photos/318748848_kAr8F-L-1.jpg

http://lyndapphotography.smugmug.com/photos/318748977_KbAVC-L-1.jpg

From the other wedding I did last year...
http://lyndapphotography.smugmug.com/photos/372693620_s54cn-L.jpg

Our September WDW trip yielded a LOT of material! First from Festival of the Lion King...
http://lyndapphotography.smugmug.com/photos/440476841_Xyd9Y-L.jpg

Then two from the last week of the Adventurer's Club. We spent two nights there, and I took TONS of photos, so this was another time when I just couldn't narrow it down to one.
http://lyndapphotography.smugmug.com/photos/440526886_sgrtJ-L.jpg

http://lyndapphotography.smugmug.com/photos/440690286_4Bos4-L.jpg

And from the fireworks convention. I love this because you just don't usually see the fireworks at that end of Main Street. After the convention fireworks were over, I spun the camera around 180 degrees and shot Wishes! Amazing!
http://lyndapphotography.smugmug.com/photos/440257684_FXsvb-L.jpg

One of my closest friends had a baby boy in June. This is him in August.
http://lyndapphotography.smugmug.com/photos/362207778_x3pFF-M-1.jpg

In November/December, we made it to Disneyland!!! DH LIKES flying now! There was so much to see and photograph in California. It was our first trip there, and it was beautiful! Here's the Walt Disney Concert Hall, one of the coolest buildings I've ever seen...

finding 12 i like will be hard so no particular order, well actually after i posted them i guess it goes from more normal to more odd :) and hope these are all from 08

one of the first collages i made
http://jforsythe.zenfolio.com/img/v3/p127959220-3.jpg

from a local rose garden. it was pouring till i got there so liked all the raindrops on the flowers...i messed with this one to make it softer since i think of old roses as soft for some strange reason
http://jforsythe.zenfolio.com/img/v2/p548229569-4.jpg
same shoot different feel
http://jforsythe.zenfolio.com/img/v2/p531074328-3.jpg
i actually took this in 07 but didn't convert and work on it till 08 so guess that counts. i have ME/CFS and did a series of photos about what it is like to have it....one thing you get with that (among other things) is this weird thing called brain fog, messes up memory( what did i have for breakfast again), ability to think( IE math ) etc. posted this on a cfs site and it got some good response there, must have captured that feeling for me as well as for some others. fogged and blurred it converted tob&w added grain
http://jforsythe.zenfolio.com/img/v1/p1048087019-4.jpg
i guess this one is really kind of creepy. it's at a cemetery and some kind of little mausoleum type deal. but i guess to me it was a picture of the "end of the road" so to speak:) i centered it since it's serious, made it purple cast after converted to b&w, might have upped the highlight on the trees in the center a little, don't really remember.I'm going to do this with an auratone if i ever get around to it.
http://jforsythe.zenfolio.com/img/v3/p179094703-3.jpg
skunk cabbage detail, adjusted sat to make it a little less spring green
http://jforsythe.zenfolio.com/img/v1/p741491256-3.jpg
my real life fantasia type flower, a bored daisy :lmao: .. OK well that is what i looks like to me with the 2 smutches in the center part that look like eyes, the mouth hole yawning in the very center and the 2 upturned petals like fingers in front of the mouth, maybe you had to be there?:lmao:
http://jforsythe.zenfolio.com/img/v2/p613542909-3.jpg
a waterfall not far from my house i like to go to , this one in fall ( duh) but i liked the way the light hit the tree on the right http://jforsythe.zenfolio.com/img/v4/p550722958-3.jpg
one of the few times i dragged my sorry self out of bed in time to get some shots at dawn, sheep going out to the pasture from a barn in Middlefield Oh ( 20 mins from my house)
http://jforsythe.zenfolio.com/img/v1/p858560971-4.jpg
this one is a photo, really it is, of a coleus from my flower box then i messed around with it till it looks like a volcano or something pretty "unplant" like to me. i like the hot colors
http://jforsythe.zenfolio.com/img/v1/p750121144-3.jpg
not sure if i took this in 07 or 08, it's a wrought iron door handle on the door of the maple sugar bush building in a local park..."revamped" in 08 for sure, made the canvas larger, put the photo on 4 times in different colors then tilted and cropped the whole thing so it was all on an angle. just added the plastic overlay for someone so not sure which this is, the first or the one with the plastic

Love your photos Jann. I really like the waterfall!

Also, I'm told (Thanks Jann!) that some of my photos were not showing up. I think I have it fixed now. I can see them all. Feel free to let me know if it's not working. :)

Great! :) Thanks so much. The concert hall photo is actually straight from the camera, and I see a spec of sensor dust I need to get rid of. I took a ridiculous number of shots of that building, and I haven't processed most of the RAW files yet. We drove downtown JUST so I could see and photograph it. It's amazing! It was actually quite bright out, and I have photos that are a more accurate representation of what we saw, but I love the highlights and shadows on that one. It makes it seem really surreal to me. Thanks again for letting me know the photos weren't showing up!

If you click the image it'll take you to the Flickr page, where you can access the EXIF data by clicking "More properties" on the bottom right.

Off the top of my head, I think it's 25 seconds, f/22, ISO 200.

For the record, I did go to your Flickr page afterwards and you have some great shots. I hope you don't mind, but I am going to test out the "ghost" technique at HM while we are there in December (running out of the photo). Definitely more creative than I could come up with on my own.

AND--I also read your engagement story while I was at it--so great and fantastic photos again, I don't think most of us have photos from our proposals (at least I don't) and I know that's something you'll appreciate having when you are older and have been married for years.
