I'm trying to figure out what would be the most cost efficient way to go ;). My AP expires in Feb. '09, DH's and kids' expire June '09. We have a June trip planned right before theirs expire, and then we will not be going to WDW again until '10. So I need a ticket/pass for the June trip (and possibly a Jan./Feb. '10 trip with friend).

A couple of questions: first, if I renew in Feb. the expire date will be Feb. of '10, even if I don't use it for the first time until June--is that correct? Second, if I buy a park hopper non-expire from UCT for the June trip, can I upgrade it to an AP when we go on our '10 trip, or does it have to be within a certain amount of time from first usage?

TIA!

You are correct about renewals. A renewal will start upon the expiration of the old card and then be good for the next 366 days.

We usually get PAPs, but we never renew. We just get a new one and try to make our two trips fall within the one year time.

Yes, you are correct the AP will expire in Feb of '10. As long as you have unused days on your non-expiration ticket from UCT you will be able to upgrade to an AP.
