I am such an idiot. My mind is blank. In a right triangle -- if one side is 24" and the other side is 24" -- how long is the 3rd side? aargh!

a(squared) plus b(squared) = c(squared) so you have
33.94inches is the answer dear

i only went to two significant digits, i hope that was sufficient...

JEN! What kinda teacher are you? You're supposed to give the formula and then ask for the answer! :teacher:

The third side is the root of the sum of a squared and b squared. Teach a gal to fish and she won't come tapping on your door every time there's a right triangle to solve for! LOL

DW loves math and is mad because it has been to long since she used it and cant come up with your answer please show formula with details so she does not go crazy. HELP:confused3 Never mind she got it.

this is really bad but I'm gonna say it anyway....

I am so bored right now (being home from grad school) that I am doing my little brothers online algebra homework for him :confused3 and the Pythagorean Theorem was part of it (YAY YAY YAY I LOVE GEOMETRY)

I'm am not even kidding, I got a little excited when I saw quadratic equations, polynomials, and triangles :rotfl2:

For some reason I love math, so much that I spent hours yesterday doing my brothers, I hope the online teacher doesn't find it suspicious

I guess when I go from being so stressed out and loaded up with homework for a semester to absolutely nothing I go a little crazy and need to get my homework fix one way or another ;)

Thanks Jen!! I was trying to figure out the square root of 1152, and couldn't remember how to do it. Now I see the "sqrt" key on my calculator! duh.

why in the heck would someone even need to know that answer. Just drink a few more beers and it will come to you. I might not be right but then you won't care if it is or not.

2 days till we get to the fort.

We have a corner where one wall comes out 24" and we need to fit a TV in that corner. So, if we go out 24" from both sides, I think a 32" TV will fit at an angle? :teacher:

Ok Ok where do I start, my DSL has been down for 36 hrs and I come back to THIS???? LOL

First off, Jen, you failed to mention that your equation only works to find the hypotenuse of the right angle triangle....

So in Rhonda's case it will work assuming that the house isn't extremely old and out of square, or she is not placing the tv in a bay window, or in a corner that is something other than 90 degrees...

So, in her case 24 sq + 24 + = 1152 Now the square root of 1152 is... 33.9.

So that means you have aprox 40 inches to work with... and you are trying to place a 32" Tv there, so on first blush it would seem like it would work... but let us not forget that the measurement of a 32" Tv is on the diagonal... and does not include the speakers and tv case.

So in this case, even with all the higher math, we still can not infer that the tv will fit without further informantion.

Ok I am off to catch up with what I missed everywhere else!

OK Professor, the original Rhonda question stated a RIGHT TRIANGLE. Sooooo, I calculated based on what she asked....thpppp...

A 32inch TV screen is in actuality 31.5 inches in diameter. But, as professor John pointed out, you would need to take in account extras like the box the tv is in (if it is not a flat screen) and such a sundries as speakers. If you are working on the assumption of a flat screen, you will have about 2 inches to work with.

Wow - who knew such a simple question could cause so much controversy? :rotfl2:

Yes - it will be a flat screen, so no box or speakers to worry about. Good! That one is figured out! Thanks everyone!

Now....who wants to help me decorate? We're moving into another house next month. It's an older, smaller house. But it's on the water (woo-hoo!) so, I am thinking about a beachy-type theme. Light colors, breezy feel. The walls are already light yellow, so I'm going with that. (I hate painting).

I don't have much money to work with, so I'm starting to watch consignment shops, etc. for accent pieces -- whitewashed end tables, beach scene pictures...stuff like that.

Any other ideas for me?

But seriously....the TIKI theme is a fun and very inexpensive way to decorate for a beachy feel.

I dont know these people, but I dont think theyd mind that I jacked theis pic from photobucket for an example.
