I'm going to be down in the world in January and I'm looking to buy a small lightweight tripod that I can store in my owners locker.

Does anybody have any suggestions on where I could buy one or even better, where I could order one for delivery to the Boardwalk Villas.

If you use a DSLR, I do not know of any brand tripod that I would trust my equipment to that would fit in an owners locker. If it is a P&S, I would take a gorillapod. But I will admit upfront, I have a thing about people using very lightweight and portable tripods on expensive photography equipment. I see nothing but tragedy coming from it.

I know there are some that have used them successfully so far, but...........

So I have had my say and will let others offer their suggestions!

Interesting side note. I have a good friend that has just gotten the Nikon 600mm lens. He told me I could borrow it anytime I wanted. YEAH FOR ME! BUT, only if I took his tripod and mount. He would only trust it knowing what it was attached to! This lens is a 10k lens.

It is for a Nikon D90 with the 18-200 Lens. I have a good heavy weight tripod that I use at home but I don't fancy bringing it with me on the plane.

I understand that a small lightweight tripod is not the safest for a heavy camera but I'm not planning on walking away from the camera while it's on the tripod, just use it to steady the camera for night shots.

Hmm... Targus makes a *very* lightweight travel tripod that extends to ~50 inches, but folded is about 12 or so inches. It runs $12 or so at Target, and I have used it successfully with my XSi w/ 55-250mm IS lens (with me standing right there, since it is a very cheap tripod). I know the D90 is a bit heavier than the XSi, but I imagine it would still be sufficient, especially if you're standing next to it.

Also, for a bit more money, there is a gorillapod that is rated for SLRs, and will support up to 9 pounds of weight, but it runs about $50. However, since (at least around here) gorillapods are nearly impossible to find in stores, you could order it online and have it delivered to you at the resort.

I was in the same boat a couple of years ago - looking for a tripod while @ WDW. IMHO, STAY AWAY from the Camera Stores along 192 right outside the World; nothing but cheap knock-offs selling for premium prices. Instead, I went to a local Best Buy and purchased a cheap tripod at a cheap price.

Decided to go with a Manfrotto 190CXPRO4. It folds down to 19" so that will fit in the Owners Locker which is 22" long. It extends to 48" and weights 2.9 lb.
