My Dad and I always wanted to try the Sushi at the Kona Island Sushi Bar at the Polynesian and tonight we finally did. I had the Shrimp Tempura Roll and he had the Kona Crab Cake Roll, which we both enjoyed and this is one location we will be going back to again in the future.

Wow eight! :goodvibes I do remember seeing the menu in All Ears once. I think I saw another photo of the Volcano roll that looks good too. I'm so glad there are other options too.

We ordered the Volcano Roll as an appetizer at Kona Cafe. It was fantastic. When we go back in May I plan on ordering it again.

Do they accept ADR's here?
Thanks!

Do they accept ADR's here?
Thanks! No they don't. However incase there is a wait for seat at the bar it shouldn't be long since it's not long to make it and for someone to eat it. Although you can also order off the regular Kona Cafe menu from there, so those guests would take a bit longer to eat.

We ate here a few times last month too, and found it to be terrific. Volcano roll was our favorite, but we also had the crab cake roll and I very much enjoyed the Tuna Poke.
There was never any wait for a seat when we went (which was great without ADRs) and being able to order off the Kona menu was a plus too (love the Kona salad!)
We've also had sushi at Teppan Edo (Epcot), California Grill (Contemporary) and at Pucks (DTD). DH and I both agreed that while the selection isn't quite as extensive as Cal Grill (whose sushi is top notch!), Kona Sushi was right up there. We'd rank them...
1. California Grill
2. Kona Island Sushi (a very close second)
3. Wolfgang Puck Cafe
4. Teppan Edo

When I was at Kona in September, I ordered the california luau rolls from the bar for my appetizer and that worked out great and they were tasty! I had no idea I could sit at the sushi bar & order from Kona though... Now my DH might agree to go there with me if I can have my sushi & he can still have his steak!
Oh, and the crab cake roll, is it a crabcake IN rice? Or on it? Or just the crab cake?
Thanks for posting!:goodvibes

I'm glad you enjoyed it!
My DH and I ate at Kona Cafe on Tuesday night and I ordered the Shrimp Tempura roll. Usually this is my favorite thing at other restaurants but I didn't like the sweetness of the mango inside the Kona one. The crab cake one sounds great, next time!

Just got back a couple of weeks ago and yeas you can order sushi while at Kona. You can also order Ohana Bread pudding as a dessert too. Also I have to agree completely with your order of placement with these restaurant for their sushi. Kona's volcano roll was ordered 3 times during our last visit it was sooooo good.
Also, If your are dining at Kona, I would certainly recommend the Tuna Oscar...it was hands downs the best thing I've had there!:thumbsup2
The perfect meal:
Volcano Roll
Tuna Oscar
Ohana Bread Pudding

I was hoping you could order sushi as an appetizer (although its not on the menu appearing here on the DIS:confused3)! I hope its still an option when we go in October.

It isn't listed on the menu, but you should be able to order it with no problem--just ask your server!
Enjoy! It's delicious!:goodvibes

Okay, so let me see if I've got this right:
1) You can order anything off the Kona Cafe menu while dining at the Kona Island Sushi Bar.
2) You can order any sushi from the Kona Island Sushi Bar while dining at the Kona Cafe.
3) You can take the sushi to go from the Kona Island Sushi Bar if you'd rather dine at the Tambu Lounge.
4) You can order the bread pudding from Ohana while dining at the Kona Cafe.
So basically I can have whatever I want, wherever I want it?
Thanks, Mr. Disney! :)

thanks for this. Somehow I never got around to trying this on our trip last September. Hopefully I'll get to it this year. One question, do they only offer rolls, or is there a selection of Nigiri as well? thanks!
