i just called member services and supposed details will be on the site tomorrow, Dec 20th.
They were able to tell me some info:
flexibility will be that you can book for as many or as little nights as you want, so you can book for just 1 night
points of course will vary but weeklong stays for a studio will be 134 which is what they are now (i didnt double check this is what the guy on the phone told me)
Info will be included in the planner to be sent out late spring. Yikes thats late but im sure its because theres so much new in 2009.
There will still be a transaction fee of $95 for all RCI reservations
RCI will be replacing interval, its not in addition to Interval
RCI reservations will start to be accepted Jan 2nd.

Thank-you, David! That is really great info! And I love that we'll be able to book shorter stays-
As far as the planner goes, it makes sense that it would be released later because of all the changes...of course, I'm somewhat of a new member, so last year I got my planner in the spring anyway- however...it did come with a snazzy new California wine bag..do you think we'll all get one of those this year?;) :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Keep in mind that today is a Saturday and I doubt that there are many people working the weekend in Disney's IT department. To me the 22nd sounds more likely.

Lets all remember it's DISNEY"S IT Department. Expect very little and you won't be disappointed. My "vacation details" have now been "broken" for six weeks while they work on the "known issue":lmao:

Member Services doesn't have IT employees. Everything is out sourced to a outside company. :sad2:

The outside company is... DISNEY! I am pretty sure Disney does this themself. If they are paying someone to do thier IT they are being ripped off. It's not just the DVC website it's the ENTIRE Disney presence. Try to make a hotel reservation on that useless "booking engine" Something very simple for ANY other hotel chain. NIGHMARE on the Disney site LOL!
LOL! Seriously they have the worst IT!

Is this ANOTHER pathetic website screw-up? At least for me, when I click on the RCI destinations links, they are all dead. Registry destinations links work but not weekly or nightly. DVC tech is the worst I encounter on any site, bar none. Quality control?? Please, no online reservations. I can only imagine the mess.

The nightly/weekly link goes to the same url and it worked okay for me. It's an rcl.com address so I don't think that DVC is maintaining it.

I got look at the RCI destinations. The points charts are the basically same as with II. 160 for a 1 br in high season...
I am not too excited about this.

Question: RCI names its seasons RED, WHITE, BLUE
On the points charts they are listed as LOW, MID, HIGH
Is this how it is:
RED= HIGH
White = MID
Blue = LOW
???

Yes that's correct.
Also FYI, all RCI links work fine for me with IE.
Colorado ski resorts are also pretty slim, but they were slim with II as well. Looks like some nice choices, though...we'll just have to see how gettable they are.
And also how the points cost compare with cash.

In numerous places on the DVC and the RCI pages it says "Book Now" and then lists the mem services phone number. But of course- they know nothing about it and you can't book until Jan. 2nd., finally a manager came on and said that verbage on the webpage is premature and they apologize for the mistake.

I think it's even slimmer with RCI. Though the Grand Summit and the Raintree at the Canyons are nice out in Park City.

The list stinks compared to II. I rarely complain about DVC, but this is major decline in the quality of this timeshare. Thankfully we like going to Disney, and will try to use our points exclusively at DVC resorts. I'm sorry for people who bought with the intension to trade every now and again.

The one I was looking at is the Steamboat Grand in Steamboat Springs. It looks great, but I'll do a lot more research before I try to book for 2010.

Interesting that the regular RCI works OK (not great) using Safari but at least the links work.

Not only are the choices limited, but has anyone seen the points cost for the Registry Collection??? :scared1: They want 600 points for a 1-bedroom at the Grand Mayan in high season???? I've been able to trade into the Grand Mayan using resorts that have annual fees of just a couple hundred bucks. Come to think of it, I traded into a two-bedroom March week at the Grand Mayan using a resort that cost me $300 in annual fees -- and Disney wants 900 points for a 2-bedroom there! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
Thanks, but if I had 900 points lying around, I'd book a Boardwalk Grand Villa instead! :rotfl:

By the way, here are some interesting things I just noticed on the DVC member site:
"RCI Exchanges – Expand Your Horizons
Effective January 1, 2009, RCI will be the main provider for our World Passport Collection exchanges." (emphasis added)
-and-
"Interval International Exchanges – Limited Time Only
We're switching partners at the end of 2009 to enhance our flexibility and expand our offerings. However, Interval International exchanges are still available for a limited time. Talk to your Member Services contact for details." (emphasis added)
So, I'm wondering if maybe this means that some II exchanges will still be available until the end of 2009???

I would assume the first is because BVTC will still exist for e.g. Club Intrawest properties. The second is clearly a typo.

The second is clearly a typo.I forgot that BVTC counted as part of the World Passport Collection, rather than as a separate category. And yeah, the "end of 2009" clearly could be a typo. Oh well, sounds like it's still end of 2008 for the RCI switch.
