Circuit City has the Uniden FRS420 two way radios on sale for $9.99 each. They have 14 channels, 38 subcodes, a vibrating mode, and 5 call ringers. It also has a sport clip so that you can attach it to your belt, purse, etc. Range is listed as up to 2 miles.
I debated for a long time between the Cobras and Motorollas, but for this price, and the little that we will use them at WDW, I decided to give these a try. They use 3AA batteries each, and the sale is on through Saturday, but when I went to my local store, there weren't that many left. Good luck if you are interested!:):D:)

before they realize their mistake. After reading cindala post, I ran down to Circuit City and bought my 2. I've been researching and really wanted 2 way radio but didn't really need to spend the money at the moment so I held off until now. When I got back from Circuit City, I had to do a search and see how good of a deal this was, by comparing with other stores. Well, if you really do a search you will see, that the model Circuit City is advertising is a FRS420, but when you read the description, that is not the one you are buying. The model at CC is the FRS420-2, which has the better features. FRS420 doesn't have the privacy codes or the vibrate alert. The lowest price on yahoo for the FRS420-2 is $45.00 ea.
Thank you cindala!!!!! This truly was a bargain.....

Hi Cindala-

I live outside of Morristown and people also want to know if that's in south jersey. I have to tell them that's Moorestown. Confusing isn't it? Oh well....

carone0318,
Gee, I thought these were a good buy, but never realized how much they normally cost. I just didn't want to spend a lot. I'm glad you were able to get your 2. I bought mine at the Paramus NJ store, and they had about 4 left on the shelf Monday afternoon.
As momto4obkids stated, you can also order these on their website.
karyn,
Hope you were able to get yours too! Don't you just love a great bargain!:):D:)

Picked up my Circuit City 2 way radios this evening at the Livingston store. The guy got them for me so i didn't notice how many were left. Also picked my son up a Sega Dreamcast game for $7.49 which i found in the bargain bin. What a great haul!

I just ordered mine for 9.99, printed out my order confirmation and went back to print out the item description, since someone said that the model # they listed didn't have privacy codes or vibrate mode like the descr. said....well, I then get a "We are performed scheduled maintenance. Please come back later screen" I hope they aren't changing this particular item.
Edit: Never mind, I tried again at work and was able to print it out. Silly Me :p

Wanted to thank you for the heads up, went out last night after work and bought three myself. We're staying the HIFS, so thought they would be great for nights at the hotels, my kids are old enough to go to the game room and pool by themselves, but this gives me a great way to contact them........Thanks again.

karyn,
Glad you were able to get yours too!:D
momm2four,
Try again. Alot of the sites do system maintenance, and it could just be a coincidence that it happened when you ordered. Good luck!:):D:)

Thank you for your original post cindala! I have been following this thread since Sunday since I was interested in getting new radios since the ones we have now only have 2 channels on them.
I was able to go out and get 2 today (should I get more at such a great price - could be a great gift! :) ) in the Wilkins, PA store and they still had plenty.
Thank you too carone for giving us all of the information about the radios! That "sealed the deal" in my our mind about buying them! :)
C/net has a nice review of these radios if you are interested.

You are welcome.
I had a pair of FRS, but they weren't so hot so I stopped by today and bought 4 of the Unidens.

How are these radios regarding feedback noise when they are left on. I bought a couple of cheap ones a year or so ago, and they have a lot of hissing when they are on (don't have a good squelch).
Could someone let me know if these are less noisy when on standby.
Thanks

Thanks for the tip. I just went to Circuit City.com and ordered them and can pick them up within 14 days from my local store. I would love feedback on how they work.

I swung by my local Circuit City on the way home from work.
Thanks for the great tip on the radios....they seem to work fine. No hiss on standby that I could notice.
The vibrate is okay at best, but what the heck.....$9.99 !! Can't complain. :D
THANKS!

Thanks for the tip. I bought 6 with express pick-up option. I have bought 4 Cobra's in the past at $70.00 each and have had two go out on us, so I'm not willing to spend a lot anymore (we use them only a few times a year when at Disney or other amusement parks.). I figure with 6 for the price of one, hopefully we can get them to last a couple of years (we only need three). I like having a back up just in case, as I can't imagine being at Disney without one. We lost one once on our first night and before we found it (going back to each and every ride we had done on an e-night) I was trying to figure out how I could get more by the next morning. We are so dependent on them to stay up with eachother.

They work great! I am very impressed for the price!! Thanks for the tip.
I purchased 2 this afternoon, and they seem to work fine with my cobra 220's. My cobra 310's, however, will not "ring"(call) the uniden or the cobra 220's, but the 220's and the uniden will call the 310's. After e-mailing Cobra twice about this, it was finally explained to me. The vibra-alert feature of the 310's require a digital signal, so that is what the 310's communicate with. The lower-end Cobra's and most other 2-mile range FRS radios use an analog signal, so different brands are compatible as long as the signal is the same. I was finally forced to admit to my DH today that I just wanted to like the 310's so much because I had so much invested in them(the re-chargeable battery packs with chargers @ $140 + radios themselves at $80 each). I personally like the water-resistant feature, vibrating alert, and cute little fold-down antenna of the 310's, but the 220's are just as good, even with the non-folding antenna and no vibrating alert. After purchasing 2 of the Unidens today, and playing with them for a few minutes, I decided I liked them better than the 220's! I went back to the store(30 minutes away), and purchased 2 more at 8 pm! The Unidens are smaller than most other radios, with an "integrated" antenna, and a really cool design(according to my 9-year-old). These radios have 5 different "rings" like a cell-phone, and a vibrating alert, which I have to agree with Granny that is rather weak, but at $10 each, a vibrating alert at all is a plus. The only thing that the Unidens do not have that might be useful at WDW is the water resistant feature, but again, at $10 each, I can't complain. I looked at this exact model(420) at Wal-mart a week ago, and it was clearanced at $30 each. The local Wal-mart also carried a lower model(I think 240?) clearanced at $15 each, and some Motorolas clearanced at $22 each(I think the new GMRS radios are driving the price of the FRS radios way down). For anyone who missed the $10 sale, check your Wal-mart. I looked at both Wal-mart and Circuit City for the rechargeable battery kits for the Unidens without any luck. Each radio requires 3 AA batteries, which should render 50 hours of service(according to info included with radios), so most people would probably use 1 set of batteries per trip. I decided to purchase 24 AA batteries(2 sets for each radio) for now, and if they work well at WDW I will purchase the rechargeable kit later. Thanks Cindala for the heads-up!

For those needing batteries for the Uniden's, if you have a Dollar Tree nearby, they sell Panasonic Plus Alkaline batteries, 2 to a pack for $1. :):D:)
