I noticed a few of you posted on the Kids Sail Free thread, so I thought this would be a good name for our meet. Of course, those of you without kids are welcome here as well!

My cast of characters is me, DH, 8-yo DD and 5-yo DS. We haven't sailed since a Wonder 4-day cruise in 2002, when I was pregnant and DD was too young for the kids club, so this will be our first cruise where we can all participate in everything. I'm really looking forward to it!

Here is a sum of everyone who has posted on this thread: (Thanks to Stephanie and Chrisann for originally summarizing!)

ksoehrlein (Kim), dh (Chuck), dd8 princess: (Beth), and ds5 pirate: (Richard)

chrisann, dh, ds9 pirate:, and ds (turning 6 on cruise!) pirate: 1st time cruiser:banana:

Juliet25 (Stephanie), dh (Michael), dd5 princess:(Phoebe), dd1 princess:(Ruby) 1st time cruiser:banana:

Txgirl1 (Viv), dh (James), dd6 princess:(Maggie) 1st time cruiser:banana:

Aunt Stepody (Stephanie), dh, ds9 pirate: ds6 pirate: 1st time cruiser:banana:

Out To Sea Lee (Lee Ann), dh, ds11 pirate: , dd7 princess:

akeogh, dh, ds Teddy (8), dd Emmy (5 1/2) and dd Gracie (almost 3)
Sorry I couldn't use pirate and princess smilies for this last family. Apparently, there is a limit to how many icons you can use in one post!

Is that everyone?

Just found out that our GTY stateroom now has a number. There go my hopes of a complimentary upgrade, but I think I'm happy with it. We'll be stateroom #6558. Party on the verandah!

Our Team consists of, dh, myself, ds9 and ds5(will be turning 6 on Mach 20th). This is our very first cruise ever but I've been dreaming about it for a long time!! We've been to WDW numerous times because we just love everything Disney so we're looking forward to this too. We have a tendancy of not telling the boys when we go on vacation so I'm not sure if we should do the same or tell them ahead of time. I have 91 days to figure it out!!:goodvibes Can't wait to meet you all!! How do you know what room# you'll be getting? What category did you book?

Hello! First time cruisers, long-time park goers here. Our cast includes me (Stephanie), DH (Michael), DD5 (Phoebe), and DD<1 (Ruby). I've been wanting to go on a DCL forever...I can't believe my DH agreed to it so quickly!

We're in a GTY. I haven't checked the website so I don't know if our cabin has been assigned yet.

We're following up the cruise with a stay at AKL for DD's spring break.

This will be the longest vacation we've ever taken, so I'm really looking forward to relaxing and just taking in all the "wonder." :goodvibes

(Too funny about the thread title!)

Hey there, so glad to see someone finally started this thread was beginning to think we were only ones going at this time. Our cast is myself (42) and my dd (20). First cruise ever and we are soooo excited. Surprised DD for christmas with spring break land/sea package. I have read and read and reread so much info on this board and look forward to reading all the new stuff and getting the answer to so many questions I have. :santa:

Looks like between us, we'll have three 5- to 6-year-olds! How cool is that? Want to share photos so our little ones will see some familiar faces on board? I'll start. Sorry it's so big! This is Beth, Richard, and "a friend" you might recognize...

Hi,

It's very late, I'm about to zonk out but wanted to say, Hi!! I've been checking out this board and just learned about Meets and Fish Extenders...although I'm still not to sure what that's about!

My name is vivian, (dh)James and (dd6)maggie. This will be mine and dh's 2nd cruise (1st not Disney) and dd's first. We are doing the land/sea package. We could not get the kid sails free as we had the land part on our trip. BUMMER!

I do not know the ship lingo---what is GTY? I've seen that in several places.

I've been a mini wreck letting dh plan this trip because I think we/he paid way too much. But, I keep telling myself to let it go and enjoy. :) Oh, we are on the 7th floor....level, eh, not sure what you call it.

Looking forward to this trip very much and having a great time. I hope to meet some of you.

Welcome to the DIS Boards, Vivian! :welcome: I'm so excited that our Cruise Meet thread is where you posted for the first time! And yet another 6-yo? That's terrific! I hope Maggie, Richard, Phoebe and Chrisann's son end up becoming fast friends!

GTY is when you are guaranteed to be in no lower than a particular category (reading between the lines, you could end up getting a better stateroom than the one you booked), but you don't know your stateroom number. It simply says GTY in the place on your confirmation where a room number would normally appear. Our cabin was GTY at first, so I had hopes of a free upgrade, but when I went back to make my final payment, I saw a stateroom number instead. But it looks like a pretty good room, so I'm happy!

Where are you staying for the land portion? Chuck is coming just for the cruise, but the kids and I will be at SSR (or AKV if our DVC waitlist comes through) Sunday through Thursday morning.

Since you mentioned Fish Extenders and FE exchanges, does anyone want to do this? It sounds like fun, but it also sounds like something that would create additional stress as we're packing and planning, so I could go either way. Right now I'm obsessing over door magnet designs!

Thanks! I think maggie will have some fun in the club, she's a very independent girl. But I think she will have lots more fun having some friends on the ship. She turns 6 this month.

There are so many abbreviations used here that it's very confusing. I didn't know about GTY but I wanted a veranda for sure this trip around.:cool1:

SSR (or AKV if our DVC waitlist comes through....whatwhatwhat???? lol. I don't know what that means but we are staying at the Polynesian starting that Sunday prior to sailing. james wanted to be on the monorail line which sounds good to me as I'm all about convenience. haha.

I have no idea what is good or must see in Disney and what to really expect on this cruise. The last cruise I went on was in '98 RCCL....so long ago.

Ok, I'm either or for Fish Extenders if enough people want to do it. But, I have to ask, what is the deal with the door magnets? Are there other little things about cruising this line I should know about? I want to be in on all those little things. :woohoo:

It's so nice talking with others who will be on the same cruise.

Ok, I need to go and get ready for lunch, oh, there's my friend calling!

Sorry for all the acronyms, Viv! We'll be staying using our Disney Vacation Club (DVC) points. Right now, our room is at Saratoga Springs Resort (SSR), but I would prefer Animal Kingdom Villas (AKV), so we are on a waiting list for that.

How awesome that you'll be at the Poly! You will LOVE it! The kids and I are going to have dinner at 'Ohana one night. Maybe we could meet up at the Poly that night so we'll already know each other before we set sail.

With regard to GTY, I don't think it's something you request. You can choose your stateroom from those that are available or simply say you want a Category XX. Since we also wanted the verandah, I requested a Category 6 at the time I booked, and at that point, they couldn't tell me which stateroom we would have. But now I know.

We first sailed on the Disney Wonder in 2002 and I don't think we saw a single door that was decorated. Since then, however, word has gotten out that the doors are metal, so lots of people will bring magnets to make their door more recognizable. Our Disney Cruise Line forum has a few threads with door magnet design ideas. I've designed a few t-shirts for past WDW trips (that's a whole other forum in and of itself!), so I'm eager to try my hand at making my own magnets for our door. If nothing else, a magnetic dry-erase white board is a good idea so that Chuck and I can leave each other "where you at" messages throughout the day. At home, we're so dependent on our cell phones; it's going to be hard to be incommunicado during the cruise!

Kim,

I think it would be awesome (!) to meet at Ohana for dinner. I definitely want to eat there as I've heard good things about it the food and decor. Before we leave we will swap cell numbers, ok?

We are in TX so don't get down to FL much. I've been a couple of times in the last few years....to Destin and then Sunny Isles. My f-i-l had a condo in Destin and now has one in SI...So, I guess no DVC for us.

For our honeymoon, long ago, we went to Egypt because, honest to goodness, it was cheaper than staying at the Grand Floridian! That one, the Poly and just recently the Animal Kingdom Villas are the only ones I know about. Can you really see the animals out of your room windows? If so, that sounds like the place to be. Oh, do you know anything about the luau? It sounds fun but on another board or somewhere someone said it was boring and expensive.

I don't know the difference, but we are category 5. I could not tell any differences between that and 6.

I may have to see if I can find those magnet and tee shirt threads...will you point me in the right direction?

I know it bites about the phones. I was telling James that we should take our walkie talkies. I had the great idea to buy them a couple of years ago and we've never used them. They've been in the charger since then so they may need new batteries.

Do you have a fish thingy....sorry about that, I've been gone since my last post. I went to bed late, up early and am now really tired. My brain is not functioning at full capacity.

I love the little smilies but what do the "wish" ones mean?

Hey, what excursions are ya'll thinking of doing? We are not sure yet but need to book them soon. Since we've only recently gotten our tickets, we've had to iron out some glitches. Although, we are interested in mags doing the dolphin thing and feeding the stingrays. James and I did the stingray thing in the Cayman Islands and it was a neat experience.

My DD (20) and I are thinking about doing the door magnets just cause I think they are fun. Considered FE but honestly I am stressing over packing as it is so I think I am going to skip that this first time out.

We are booked for the Dolphin Encounter at the Atlantis Resort in the afternoon and hope to tour the resort on our own in the morning. Also booked the Seahorse Catamaran Snorkeling excursion on CC for early afternoon as well.

So cool that there are so many kids around the same age. DH and I are hoping Phoebe will spend a lot of time in the kids club. We just booked our youngest DD for 10 hours at Flounder. We're figuring we'll have family time at WDW. During the cruise, we want "us" time. But kids always have other ideas, so I'm not counting on it. (though DH is! :lmao: )

I'll post a pic at some point. I've got a bunch from Christmas that I haven't downloaded yet.

Has anyone booked their Nassau excursion? We're thinking of just staying on the ship and exploring since we've never sailed before. I'm really looking forward to CC.

That's so crazy how close in ages our kids are. Phoebe will turn 6 on April 4. My other DD will turn 1 on March 30. I wish we could celebrate their bdays in WDW or on a cruise, but Phoebe's spring break is the week before.

Just wanted to let you all know that I will be out-of-pocket for the next few days. I'm running in the WDW Half Marathon on Saturday :cool1: and will be catching my flight out this evening!

Viv, I e-mailed you from my web page and included my e-mail address. Let me know if your spam filter blocked the message, and I'll try again from a different account. The WISH smilies are from the WISH forum and can be added to your signature once you hit a goal. WISH stands for We're Inspired to Stay Healthy. They're a great group of people! I recommend that part of the DIS Boards for anyone looking for accountability with regard to diet and/or exercise. But watch out! After logging in my runs, I found myself "needing" to run the half marathon. Everyone's enthusiasm was just way too contagious and I couldn't resist!

I was on the fence about shore excursions and am now leaning toward staying on the ship. Three days is such a short time, it makes it really hard to choose! We will definitely do some snorkeling at Castaway Cay, but that's all I have planned for now.

Does anyone want anything from WDW? I'll be happy to grab park maps or anything else you might need or want.

Hi!!

I found some cute stuff for FE I might bring along if anyone else does it. But yes, thinking of the packing is slowly starting to stress me out. It can be a lot of luggage for 3 people....good thing dd is so small.

I still haven't had time to see what the door magnets are all about but I might give it a look see.

I just tried to call dh to see if he has booked our excursions yet. I'm not sure we....oh, never mind. I just went to check on stuff and we are in the middle of a deviation on air travel so we still owe some money and cannot book anything until we pay that off. Well, maybe tonite we can finally decide.
It is nice to know where the dolphin encounter is. Is there anyplace on Disney Cruise Line to find the cost of the excursions?

Kim,

Good Luck with the half marathon. I'm sure you'll have a blast. I'll be cheering for you. :cheer2:

I'll check my email and let you know if I got it or not. A park map might be good. It'll give us an idea of what is where. I'm totally a visual person. I'm seriously thinking of buying that tourguide Mike's info. I'm so not good about standing in long lines.

Have fun!!

Juliet,

Yeah, I'm glad we may be meeting people with kids around the same age as maggie. I haven't really given it much thought as to how long or when she might spend time in the club. I do need to get her registered though. I just know once she spends a bit of time in there she may not want to leave.

No here on the excursions. As I posted earlier there is a glitch we are working out.

Are ya'll on early or late dinner? We are on late right now but trying to get it changed to early. m's bedtime is 7:30! plus I don't like to eat late...reflux issues.

JAre ya'll on early or late dinner? We are on late right now but trying to get it changed to early.
We're currently on late. I was considering getting it switched so the kids could eat dinner with us without falling asleep at the table, but that would mean that we would have to go to the late main show. I'd rather run the risk of them falling asleep at dinner than the risk of them falling asleep during the shows, so I think we'll keep the late dinner. We tend to eat around 7 PM, which is 8 PM Eastern, so it shouldn't be too much of an adjustment (I hope).

LOL, that's OK. When I registered on the DID Boards I was going through a phase where I was using my cat's name as a screen name on boards I frequented. Pre-kids. :)

We're also on late dinner. My kids are definite night owls, so I don't foresee any issues.

I talked with Phoebe tonight about the cruise and showed her the videos on the DCL website. She was a little concerned that we were going to leave her on the ship! :scared: I'm trying not to push the issue, but I really hope she'll take to the kids clubs. I think she'd have a lot of fun once she's there.

Well, do you think if she met maggie and maggie was all about going to the club Phoebe would be more willing to go? mags is pretty easy going about stuff like that--trying new things.

I didn't think of the shows. Although we do normally eat about 6 or 6:30 since her bedtime is usually 7:30ish. Although I'm sure all that will go out the window on this trip. :)

We will also be going on our very first cruise this year. It will be me, DH, DS9, and DS6.

That's cool our children are pretty much all the same age. We also have the second dinner seating. We are booked for the Dolphin Encounter from 9:30am to 1:45pm in Nassau. We also have reserved Palo at 6pm for my DH's birthday on 03/20. I hate that we will miss the pirate dinner. However, I had heard from another site that the people with the late seating ususally miss a little bit of the Pirate deck party. We think we would rather miss the dinner than the show.

I am glad for my first post that someone referred me to this section of the forum. My DS6 is pretty shy. I hope he will do alright in the kids club. I'm not worried about my DS9. He has never met a stranger. BTW, we are from Texas also!

Maybe right at the beginning of the cruise we can meet up, our sons are the same age!! What category are you booked in? Did you put a request for main dinner with DCL? We did and it just got changed from late to main a couple days ago. We're from, Ontario, Canada.

I just typed a whole page of stuff and lost it. :scared: Here I go again:

Count our crew in too!! Me, Dh, DS11, and DD7. This will be our second cruise on DCL, our first cruise was a 7 night western last March. We had the best vacation ever. :yay: The kids ask daily "Mom when can we go on another Disney cruise?" So, since we were kinda last minute booking this crusie we have decided to keep this as a SUPRISE for the kids.

We will be staying at the CBR from Sat until Thursday when we leave for the cruise. My daughter will be dancing at DTD on Monday of that week so we decided to stay with the dance team rather than staying on our DVC points (we were going to stay at BCV).

We have booked a Cat12. :confused3 Last year we booked a Cat6 and enjoyed having the balcony so much!! We have never sailed without atleast an ocean view!! (I'm kinda hoping for an upgrade since we have not been assigned to a room yet, but not counting on it.) I just know that no more time than we spend in the room that it will be just fine no matter what!! Even on the 7 day last year I was not able to do everything that we wanted to on the cruise!!

We also have the late seating for dinner. I always enjoy having the late seating and feel we get the most out of the cruise with it. (Especially with the shorter cruises!!) When you have the late sitting you go to the early show (while the early dining is going on). The dining staff does a great job of rushing through dinner on pirate night. The kids even got to do the limbo around the dining room, it was lots of fun!! We were able to be up on deck well before the show even began and were even right up front!!

I just have to do my best to keep this a secret between now and March!! :rolleyes1

I look forward to getting to know all you guys better over the next two months!! I am normally the "queen lurker" but I'll try to do better and come out of "lurking" more often!!

We are booked in the Cat. 12 guarantee. I do not think we can request for anything.

When I called the other day to see if we could choose our room out of the cat 11's. The DCL agent said, "No, you do not get to pick." She looked at how much we paid and proceeded to tell me that we got the best deal they have. She kinda made me feel bad for asking. She said "People are calling everyday trying to get the deal you got and we are all sold out." So, I felt like I was told to just be happy with whatever I get. I hope we aren't treated like lowly's on the ship just because we paid less than others. We could have paid more, but we figured why. We aren't going to be in our rooms much, except to sleep. We have the same philosophy when we are at WDW. We stay in the Value Resorts mostly. But, we have stayed at the WL and OKW a couple of nights, too. (Sorry, I went off on a tangent. I had to vent.)

Our travel agent booked us. As far as I know, she did not select a dining time for us. The only thing I made sure she noted on our reservation was that my DS6 is allergic to peanuts.

The dining staff does a great job of rushing through dinner on pirate night. The kids even got to do the limbo around the dining room, it was lots of fun!! We were able to be up on deck well before the show even began and were even right up front!!

I just have to do my best to keep this a secret between now and March!! :rolleyes1

Lee Ann

How fun! I love "surprise" secret trips. We have done several of these with our boys, too. It is really hard not to accidentaly say something though. The further out we book the trip, of course the harder it is to keep quiet. Good luck! :thumbsup2

We went to WDW last Sept. Then, we heard they were having "free dining" again in November. So, we went again. The boys did not know anything until we were on the road. We've been to Disney so many times that my oldest picked up on our destination when we crossed over into Louisiana. He was a trooper though. He didn't spoil it for his little brother. This was the first time we drove straight throught the night (18 hours). We usually stop in Pensacola (11 hour drive from TX). But in order to keep the trip a surprise to the last minute, we decided to drive all night and let the kids wake up to driving into the gates of the World. It was so fun to see their face light up. This was probably one of our best Disney trips (spur-of-the moment). We were also there to see the space shuttle Endeavor during a night launch, which was AWSEOME. BTW, I do not recommend driving 18 hours straight. We were very sore and tired.

That is great to here about the pirate dinner. It wouldn't seem right if the late dinner crowd did not get to see all of the show. pirate:

Hi, welcome to the thread. :butterfly I just wanted to drop by to say Hi. Along with me is DH and DD6, maggie. What part of Texas (yay!) are ya'll from? We are in North TX.

I think we've decided to stay on the boat in Nassau since this is a short trip. I remember complaining on our last cruise how we crammed in so much on excursions that it was hard to really relax. We are excited about CC and snorkeling, feeding the sting rays and hanging out on the beach.

Non first timers: What is the pirate deck party? Also, do a lot of people dress up for pirate dinner/nite?

We seem to be the only ones trying to get early dinner. ;) We asked but had to have a medical reason to change--DCL. Or so we were told. I'm working on that.

Are you going to do the Fish Extender or magnets on the door?

~vivian

Just wanted to say Hi. :dogdance: How fun you've done a 7 day. I'd like to do that next time. We went cat.5 because mama had to have a veranda. :rotfl:

How neat that dd is going to dance--Downtown Disney??? I'm not very good with all the abbreviations. Where are ya'll from?

Glad you came out of lurking.

~v

I look forward to getting to know all you guys better over the next two months!! I am normally the "queen lurker" but I'll try to do better and come out of "lurking" more often!!

We considered staying on board for the same reason as you (short trip). However, I know the kids would love to interact with the dolphins. I figure this may be our only opportunity.

We will need to get more info about the pirate party from the others here. I just heard it was a really good time. We might dress up. I have been told some of the families enjoy doing this.

Stephanie,
I tried to pm you but I don't think you can send or receive pm's yet. I have the opposite problem from you though. My older son is not really wanting to do the kids clubs as he's very friendly but not very outgoing, and my younger son is already calling it "his club he get's to go to", very outgoing. Hopefully we can meet up a bit before. What are you guys doing before the cruise? I'm still trying to figure this part out. I would love to do WDW, but I'm afraid DH will be all disneyed out by the end of the week. I'm thinking maybe Cocoa Beach but I can't find anything reasonable. We, like you just back in November and weren't planning on anything else so soon, so we're trying to keep this trip at a moderate budget. We usually take our trips in the Fall and save and plan it during the other 10 months ahead of time so I'm all out of wack!! When you click on your reservation confirmation it should say what your dining time is. Maybe call DCL and find out what your dinner time is and if it is later, request a main dinner(if you want), I imagine it's easier to switch it to late than from late once you're on the ship. Have you ever cruised before? We haven't, so not only is this our first disney cruise, it's our first cruise all together. As for the room, we're in a 12 gty as well, but from what I've read that really doesn't mean much so who knows where we'll end up. I should be going.

Well, do you think if she met maggie and maggie was all about going to the club Phoebe would be more willing to go? mags is pretty easy going about stuff like that--trying new things.

I think so. Phoebe's kind of shy at first but she warms up quickly, and she **loves** making new friends and playing with other kids. I think she'll really loves the kids club if she gives them a try. Unfortunately, she's very stubborn and once she has it in her mind not to do something, it's hard to change her mind. I know, however, that she'd much rather spend the day hanging out with kids than with her baby sister!

You probably got in on the same deal we did! A friend of mine tried to book this cruise a week or two ago and she got a quote of two times what we are paying. Go us!

I wouldn't worry about being treated differently. No one knows how much you paid, and people are working for tips onboard.

Most likely you have late seating. I think early seating goes really fast. But you're in good company...I think all of us here are dining at 8:15. :)

Chrisann: DS-9 and DS-5
Stephanie (Juliet25): DD-5 & DD<1
Auntyaba and her DD PurdyBertnie
Viv (Txgirl1): DD-6

Wow, I tried getting to this board earlier but could not, no way, no how! :) (it was off line to me for some reason)

I think the dolphins would be fun but we have already spent a small mint on this trip and another $600+ for dolphin fun is just a bit more than we wanted to spend. Plus, I love sitting on deck and reading. I have a stack of books I've yet to read and dd and dh love being in the pool.

I'm looking into at least getting me and dh pirate shirts--dd has pirate stuff.

I booked, yesterday, our character breakfast at the Poly, our luau, and lunch at Coral Reef in Epcot. Had a hard time trying to get a Castle meal. We may just have to forego that one. (we are staying at the Poly from Sun-Th)

I'm getting excited but a bit overwhelmed. I went online last night to bathing suit shop. horrors! :rotfl: I know I'm going to end up packing way too much.

Well, fish extenders....I'm new to this but will try to explain (what I know--anyone else, please jump in) You have this holder that hangs on the fish outside of your cabin door and other people--who I guess you agree to do this with---will come by and leave little gifts in them and you do the same for them. I'm guessing most of the stuff is Disney related and mostly for the kiddos. How does that sound experienced people?? I've bought a few things in the event some of us want to do FE's

Magnets.....I've never done them but I have been doing research and have had a few things made for me by DISers and I will make some stuff for our door. It seems like fun. Are you going to make some?

Thanks for the warm welcome, Txgirl1! This is our 6th trip to the world, but our first Disney cruise. We usually sail on Royal Caribbean, but the kids sail free was too great of an offer to pass up. It will be fun to have a comparison.

We booked the dolphin encounter in Nassau....I think more for me than anybody else.....I am the animal nut in our family. (3 dogs and 1 cat!) The aqua park at Atlantis looked awesome, but DD isn't tall enough for most of the slides and I'm a little worried that it could still be somewhat cool in March. DH and I have Palo booked for Friday night, looking forward to that. We are also using the kids club at VWL for a night or two so we can all get a little break. Hi there Molly, my DD (20) and I are also doing the Atlantis dolphin encounter this one was of the first things we decided upon. Are you doing Atlantis Report encounter or Blue Lagoon? We opted for Atlantis resort because we wanted to tour the resort anyway and thought this would save us some travel time to and from since we were going there anyway.

This is our first cruise ever, we love WDW and have wanted to cruise for a while. Finally decided to surprise DD for Christmas with a spring break land and sea package. :cheer2:

Hi auntyaba....we are doing the Blue Lagoon dolphin encounter. What really caught my eye was the sea lion encounter, but DD is not old enough. I would love to tour Atlantis, but I think the waterpark area would be so enticing to Emma, and she woudln't be able to do it.

Your first cruise? You are going to love it. The other cruise lines have a bit more for the 18+ crowd, but I've heard DCL is service, service, service. I do have a problem with motion sickness, so I'm taking Bonine 24 hrs before embarkation and will use it all three days. I have heard leaving Pt. Canaveral can be a bit rough.

We cruised last March on the Magic. :beach: I know the day we were at Castaway Cay the water temp was in the low 70's. It was way to cold for us to get in the water(DH & I). My kids were in the water though. I just really depends where you are from. Us being from the South are used to the water being really warm. I'm sure the water at Nassau will be about the same.

I cannot wait!!! I'm so excited!! I'll try to get some pics of our door decorations from last March. I didn't do a fish extender because there were only 4 families that met at the meet.

I'm very excited, as is everyone on here!!!!

Yeah, I'm a bit concerned about the temperature of the water too. (as per other posts) Well, we'll see what we can do. I hope the water in the ship's pools are fairly warm.

The poople across the hall from us wanted to decorate their door after they saw ours and they used coffee filters, straws and used tape to stick them to their door!!!

So, the lower the card number the sooner you get to board the ship. It was a really big deal on our first cruise, but I don't know if I'm going to let it bother me as much on this one. Some people prefer arriving at the port later and then just boarding without having to wait. I'm just all about getting my vacation started asap!!!

Oh that's good to hear the pools are warm. I couldn't imagine going on a cruise and not going swimming at all. Yes, us being from the south, we are used to the water being very warm. Gee, can't Disney warm Castaway Cay up like they do their pools? Hee Hee :rotfl:

I'm only half kidding. I've been using the cruise as an excuse to go clothes shopping for my girls. I'm confused about what we need to wear. There's no formal night on a 3 night, correct? But there is a "dressy night"? Should I bring a suit for DH? We're not doing Palo's...just our regular rotation.

Stephanie, the kids and I will be at SSR from Sunday through Thursday morning! Want to try and meet up by the pool or Artists' Palette some time? We'll be going to MCO to get Chuck Wednesday night, but other than that, we should be around.

Regarding the port, there's a pretty cool model of the ship to look at, and I believe Mickey and Minnie make appearances, but I'm not sure what else there is to do prior to boarding. I'm with you, though, and hope to get there super early as well!

I have been trying to check our gty status and the website has been down for 24 hours.

I wish we could do a meet-up w/you guys @ SSR. We were booked in a 1-bed for that resort, but our waitlist came through at VWL. My daughter loved the main pool and the slide when we stayed in July.

Our dolphin encounter confirmation came back yesterday and we are on the 1:30pm departure. I wanted morning, but the woman said that Disney booked all of those departures. I guess we are using the same company, I just went directly w/them and saved a few bucks! We can leave on an earlier boat and enjoy the island before our encounter, though.:beach:

I'd normally say yes, but we're only going to be there one night. We'll probably get in around 11-midnight. We're driving straight thru from St Louis. :drive: I think I'm a bit crazy to attempt that with 2 kids...:rotfl2:

Ahhhh. See, it's been since 1998 since I've been on my last cruise, (gasp!) and I just don't remember all the procedures and even what we did while waiting. I do remember getting a photo with the ship name while in line. (RCCL-western caribbean) I guess we have no control over all that since Disney is providing transport from the Poly. I'm more than happy to share the door magnets. Still have to buy magnet paper (and toner!) though, so it will be a while... If you'd like to print your own, let me know and I'll be happy to e-mail you a larger image.

Regarding the countdown image, I'm not sure if you need a minimum number of posts under your belt or not. I just did mine, and here is the step-by-step:

After you create your banner, you'll see a page listing all the various codes (pseudo HTML, Ezcode, HTML, etc). Choose the first one (PseduoHTML). If you want to include the URL, copy from to the end of the box. If you don't want the web site to be included, simply copy from through . For example, mine is "img]http://www.mickeypath.com/id/1252036769.gif[/img" (substitute brackets for the quotes, however)
Go to User CP and choose Edit Signature
Paste the string you copied right into the "Your Signature" box
Click "Preview Signature" to review
If all looks OK, click "Save Signature"

I never knew this was an option. How cool that we can switch!

I dug around and found it under User CP. Click on "Edit Options" and then scroll down to "Thread Display Options." Thread line up is the second box, "Thread Display Mode" and you'll want to use the drop-down menu to get back to "Linear -- Oldest First."

If you are taking the transfers offered through DCL, then the bus will be picking you up at SSR at 12:45pm.....at least that is what I was told when we were originally booked at SSR. I thought this was kind of on the late side. We get an hour earlier pickup at VWL.

Someone asked about dressing up for dinner on the "dressy night." The guys in my crew will not be wearing a suit. I'll probably just put dress shirts with dress pants, maybe a tie?? My daugther and I will wear a "church type" dress. You will see a little bit of everything, from t-shirts to suits.

I'm getting so excited!! :beach: I cannot wait until the assign our room numbers to the ones of us that booked GTY. I keep on checking everyday, just in case. With the cruise being sold out, maybe the will start assigning a little early?? Wishful thinking!!

Has anyone decided if they are going to do the whole fish extender gift thing?? I bought my stuff to make me one, just to have it. Since we will only be on the boat for such a short time, I understand everyone not wanting to spend to much time running around the ship looking for everyone elses rooms!! It would also be fun to get stuff from other people!!

Okay, so we've had a little change of plans. We've decided not to do the dolphin excursion afterall. We think we just really want to enjoy the ship, since this is our first cruise. With the same money we were going to spend for the excursion, we are now going to play at Universal for 4 days before we cruise. WooHoo! :cool1:

Thanks for tallying up all our cruisers, Chrisann and Stephanie! I'm going to try to add it to post one. I think only the OP (that's me!) can do so.

Please PM me with your e-mail addy if you'd like to print your own magnet. From reading though the cruise door magnet thread, it seems there are 2 schools of thought on how to make these: (1) print directly onto ink jet magnet paper or (2) print on regular paper, laminate if desired, and adhere the page to a magnetic backing. I'm going to shop for the ink jet magnet paper... I think I saw it at Staples but I'm not sure if that's the kind that the cruise door magnet people recommended.

Thank you. I finally figured it out----by mistake. lol.

Oh, I'd be happy printing my own magnet. Thank you for the offer.

I think I'm not able to post any images or countdown doo-hickeys. I see that on the bottom of my page. Not sure what the magic number is for that

I am hoping to snorkel at the Blue Lagoon in Nassau when we go on our dolphin encounter. Then, I am also planning to go at Castaway Cay. No particular scheduled times. Maybe we can get several in our group together and do our own little snorkel excursion at CC. I would like to buy everyone in my family our own snorkel and mask before we go. Oh...and a head-to-toe wet suit so we won't be too cold. Hee Hee:rotfl2:

I bought snorkel sets for us today at Target. They were about $20.00 and the adult ones come with a mesh bag.

Wet suits sounds good. I really hope the water is ok because I don't want to lug those snorkel sets across the country to not even use them. ;)

If you are taking the transfers offered through DCL, then the bus will be picking you up at SSR at 12:45pm.....at least that is what I was told when we were originally booked at SSR. I thought this was kind of on the late side. We get an hour earlier pickup at VWL.

Also, I love the door magnets.:cheer2:

Molly,

I guess I need to check that. I don't know where SSR is and are we suppose to go there from the Poly? (where we are staying) geez. I need to get back into Disney mode now that dd's bday stuff is over.

I was wondering if anyone would seriously like to do the FE's from this meet? I'm keeping my options open but if there are several takers I need to get my FE made. (I've looked and looked on this board but cannot seem to find anyone to make one) (although I've found a bevy of talented people to do custom work for the magnets/tee shirts. yay)

I've been buying up stuff for FE's....just in case....and I need to know whether or not to stop. :crazy2:

Also, who here is going to dress up on pirates nite?? (we do have one, don't we?) dd has stuff to wear and I'm looking for a shirt right now for dh. I bought myself a shirt, belt and skirt, just in case...oh and bandanas, a hat, earrings....I am still looking for parrots though. :rotfl:

I don't think I will be able to make a FE before we go.

Due to luggage issues, we are not planning on doing FE this time, maybe once we see how much/little space we have this time we may decide to do it next time. DD 20 is planning to dress up for pirate night I am not simply again because of luggage restrictions.

I also tried to do the countdown thing and DD tried to help she is the computer guru of the family and neither one of us could get it to work, it would copy all the numbers/letters but would not actually show up in the post, I too may not have enough posts for it to work. Counting the days till we cruise. :cheer2:

You have to get from the Poly to Saratoga Springs?????? It is next to Downtown Disney, quite a haul from the Poly. I would say you would need to take a cab. We switched hotels mid stay last July and we went to the bell hop to call a cab and he was nice enough to load us up in the resort van and drive us over. It was great! I wonder why you couldn't be picked up at Wilderness Lodge....it is a lot closer and I know they pick up from there???:drive:

Well, I'm confused but I found this info. on another thread :) :

Here is a list of all resorts that DCL picks up from.

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge

Disney's Beach Club Resort

Disney's Polynesian Resort

Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa

Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel

Walt Disney World Swan Hotel

Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside

Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter

Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort

So, it looks like they will pick us up at the Polynesian. I understand it can be a long bus ride. ugh.

Too funny...the list you found doesn't include our resort. I would call DCL directly because they are the ones that schedule transfers, not your resort. I think it is about an hour ride to the port, without any type of traffic issues. We looked into renting a car to the port but it seemed like a lot of work to pick up a car, drive ourselves, drop the car off and then do it all again three days later. I'm on vacation, let someone else do it all.:flower3:

Did you see this thread? http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2078097 New dining room menus debut a week before we set sail, so don't waste too much time looking at menus in advance. I hope it's all yummy!

So who else has had anxiety dreams or nightmares about the cruise? I just had my second one. In my first dream, we'd boarded early and then got off the ship to go visit a college friend who (in my dream, not in real life) lived a few miles from port. We were still at her house when the ship set sail! In my second dream, DH had to drive back home to grab our birth certificates. (In my dream this only took about an hour, in real life, it would take all day.) Then, when he joined us at the port, he looked awful :crazy2: like he was coming down with a stomach flu. :scared:

I need to vent a little...Hope ya'll don't mind. (Yes, I said ya'll...what can I say...right now I'm just a frustrated Texas girl)

So, we changed our plans to do Universal prior to the cruise. (Instead of the dolphin encounter) Now, my husband is telling me that his back is bothering him again. He has 2 bulging discs in his lumbar spine. I wasn't going to agree to do Universal, because he has had a history of back trouble. I questioned him over and over before I purchased the tickets yesterday...which of course are non-refundable. He insisted that he would be fine. So, today he tells me that he has made an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon because he has been getting some numbness down his leg. RRRH! God bless him. I love him dearly. But, I sure do not want him to get on a ride and mess his back up even more prior to going on the cruise.

How is your husband feeling now?

I don't have any ideas... I can only relate in as much as I have back problems on and off again. Not as bad as him though. Was the numbness caused by a pinched nerve?

On a side note...I would not get on nor let my dh get on pretty much any ride for fear of jarring the back if I were in that situation.

I hope he feels better.

To anyone interested The Disney Store online is having a sale on ringer Tshirts today. $3.99 - 4.99! Great cheap souveniers!

I've been stocking up on stuff needed for the trip--can't forget the shoe holder for the bathroom! I've downloaded all the lists I can for ideas on what to take, it's long!-- I bought Passporters also, I guess I should read it! :rotfl:

Yes, we've told her about Disney and the cruise. She pretty much takes everything in stride. She will say things like, "Great!" and go on her way. ;)
She has never been a huge Disney fan--except for Lady and The Tramp, when she was younger--not a big princess fan either. She likes them and knows them but doesn't go gaga over them. She's not much of a girly girl. She'll play dress up but it's with a hodge podge of outfits.::laughing:

She's pretty much open to playing with dolls as well as legos and slot car racers. That said, she loves amusement parks and is really looking forward to Disney. We went to Dutch Wonderland in PA last year and she thought that was the greatest thing ever.

I'm up waaaay to late, I guess I should hit the sack.

Does anyone know how many posts you have to have before you can post attachments? My little list on the bottom still says I cannot. I have 50+ posts.

the shoe holder is a great idea! What web sites have you used to find packing lists? Passporters has one web site but i havent looked there yet.

Stepody,

This is for you too. I was going through my list of things needed and while you can find this stuff on the board I thought I'd make it easy for you guys to find.

1. I also am ordering one of these mesh bags from this canvas company for the beach. I figured I can always use them here at home too. There are some on sale!

http://www.saltwatercanvas.com/meshbags.htm

2. Click on the first message where it says packing list. It will open an excel spreadsheet. There are tabs on the bottom of the spread sheet for different sections.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=935094&highlight=packing+list

3. Ok, here are some random tips for DW and cruising that I've cobbled together from all over. I don't even remember where I found them--my many nites of being up late on the computer. :surfweb: It's long, sorry about that but maybe you can use some of this info. (Where it says "I"--it's not me. jfyi)

Organizational tips:
I make a spreadsheet at home with each day (vertically) and include park hours and EMH info. When we make our ADRs I put the conf # on there too. About a week or so before the trip I print out the spreadsheet, cut the days into separate strips and use my home laminator. Or you could use contact paper or some over thing to cover them. My friend just tapes hers to index cards. It is great to have everything in one small spot that way you can just tuck it into your pocket or fanny pack and not have to look at those sheets & dig thru anything to find your dining #s.

I also make up a small sheet that has telephone #s on it--like the resort, the airline we are using, even the local 24-care clinic. It is just a little piece of mind for me knowing that I have that info on hand.

Space Saving tips
I agree with those who use Ziplocs, great to keep everything organized. We use them for all our clothing & toiletries, etc....esp considering that the TSA people can search your bags, do you really want them touching your stuff or have to worry about your sandals getting your clothes dirty.

I also send a box of items to our resort ahead of time, I use my FedEx account (for my eBay store) and send down snacks, even toiletries if we are trying to pack really light. Costs very little & can save you time & money if you want some snack items & don't want to have to pack them in your luggage.

I bring an extra collapsible bag & pack it inside one of our suitcases. No matter how often we say we won't be lots of souveniers, we always come home with a bunch & we don't have to cram our suitcases to make them fit.

Trip Making tips
Hmm, not sure how much trip making they are but I would buy a mister fan if you are going down there when it is hot/humid--they really do help. My DS has to carry it because he's the one who wants to take it.

Remember to stop & smell the roses, literally, check them out in Epcot or just sit down on a bench & soak up the atmosphere!

Try something new, a new kind of food, miniature golf, a swim in the resort quiet pool or just watching the entertainers on the Boardwalk!

Teach your kids to perform a RAOK (random act of kindness) now & then. DS once gave a coveted balloon to a boy that was really admiring it. We often give up parade seats (DH & I) for those with young kids behind us. Buy an ice cream for the person behind you in line. I honestly believe in paying it forward, good karma & all that.

I bring bottles of liquid hand soap for the hotel bathroom. I can't stand the gooey mess left by the bar soap. I also bring an inexpensive toothbrush holder (the kind that sits on the counter) so that we have someplace to put our toothbrushes. $1 store

When we went to Disney I bought collapsable toothbrushes for a dollar at walmart. They fold up easy and we were able to just throw them away when we left.

I came up with this one years ago. We were getting ready to go to the parks, I had frozen a water bottle that we could refill throughout the day. I realized that if I put a frozen bottle in my small back-pack purse that it would get everything wet. In desperation I searched the room for an idea and grabbed my son's clean white tubesock and slippped the bottle inside. It worked perfectly, nothing in my bag got wet and it also kept the water cold longer. Now I always travel with a clean sock from the mis-match pile. I throw it away when I'm done.

A magnetic wipe board (dry-erase) we have our DIS SNs on it and then people left us messages all day!! some signed DIS names and others just signed names! we even had CM sign it!! we had to wipe it clean every night as it got soo full sometimes by our lunch break!!!

ALWAYS pack a change of clothes when you go to the parks! If they get messy, you will always have a back-up outfit. (unless you plan to buy them something in the parks, this works out great!)

SUNSCREEN...don't go anywhere without it!!!

Mini spray bottles of OUST air cleaner! they are on clearance at TARGET for .80!! i love em for when you get into those STINKY bathrooms and the like!!

Before the trip I take a 5x7 lined index card for each park and write the hours of operation for during our stay and any EMH. Along with reminders of rides that are a must, restaurants that everyone wants to eat at with a breif description of what they serve (after researching the menus at allearsnet.com) and any ADR's we might have and for when.
Then I laminate them so they are industructible and water proof. We take which ever one we need to the park of the day.

We have Guest of Honor Badges, on each trip I get out the label maker and print out my cell phone # and my name and what resort we are staying at, and put the label on the back of the badge, just in case one of the kids gets lost. They like wearing them and know what to do in case of us getting lost!

We use a pop-up hamper, which is great for carrying to the laundry room.
We bring a small bottle of laundry soap and softner (sold at Walmart).

Prior to the trip we take MAAS polishing compound and shine up pennies for the penny presses.

We make special autograph books for our kids, we take a 5x7 ring binder and punch holes into blank, white 5x7 index cards. We download or scan Disney characters into the computer and then print them out on the cards. We take card stock and cut it to fit in the outside pockets of the binder and decorate them with Disney stickers, stamps and scrapbooking supplies with their names, the trip and date (example: DD & DS's Very Merry Christmas Trip to WDW 2006). We bring along several Sharpie markers for the characters to use. The characters LOVE , absolutley LOVE, seeing their picture and signing on the page. Our kids have gotten so much extra attention each time from our signature books!! And we've had a ton, yes a ton, of people ask us where we bought it from. It's great to tell them we made it! There's only been 3 characters we didn't have in our book, so we always buy the small autograph book at WDW just in case!!

About the shoe organizers--> we use a suction cup with a hook on it we bought at TARGET, it works great and makes no mess!! and totally re-useable! we store it in the shoe organizer throughout the year!

Thank you SO much for posting about the 3M stickys. My organizer needs to be hooked by something and I was trying to figure out what I was going to do..no longer, thanks again!

get new stick cleaners for clothes--shout??? tide???

I am also taking Clorox wipes for use in the room. Sorry, but I have read and have seen things in the bathrooms that are just too disgusting. For that same reason, I am taking seat covers for the restrooms in the parks.

Have Grand Tea at GF-Grand Floridian

I packed a bunch of packages of glow bracelets from the dollar store for our kids to wear. They were a huge hit after dark and a lot cheaper than anything they sell in the parks. During Fantasmic, my boys 8 & 7 gave some extra glow bracelets to some younger boys who sat next to us, but didn't have any. It was awesome to see the faces of my boys and the other boys when they shared such a simple thing. That was $1 well spent!!

I also have my emergency duct tape in my bag. I've never had to use it but won't travel without it.

A tiny tip from me but it is a great help to us....I always take a small plastic basket....dollar tree....about 8 X 6 X 2...to hold stuff in the bathroom. They fit on most counters in even the values. It helps keep all your toothpaste, tylenol and bathroom"stuff" neat and easy to find. Also dont forget to bring from home cold medicines, allergy medicines, pepto and such since it is sooo much more expensive there.

My dh and I both take a variety of vitamins, including calcium, etc. That used to mean several large bottles rattling around in the suitcase. Now this is what I do -- go to a local pharmacy and ask for several perscription bottles. Usually they will give them to you free. Pack a days' supply of supplements per bottle, and I print out labels with name and supplement name. Its so much easier that way. You just take out your bottle for the day and that's it, no rummaging around for this and that bottle. Just throw the empties away when used.

I also pack a mesh bag I purchased from http://www.saltwatercanvas.com/meshbags.htm I can hang all the wet bottles, razors, etc and let it dry. Have a second smaller one for all the tooth brushes and paste. If you look around the above link, you'll find beach bags. I put all our bathing suits, goggles, sun screen, etc. in one of these (I have the whale bag) and our swim gear is ready when we are. Because its' mesh, it's also good for the gear when wet. v--take beach towel

ear plug package on plane--maybe extras in bag

dryer sheets in zip lock for laundry

buy little bottles of liquor

Disney's Magical Express is located on on the B-side of the Main Terminal on the Ground Transportation Level at Commercial Lane spaces B42-B47. Only guests of Disney owned resorts may use Disney's free Magical Express. A reservation is required prior to arrival at the airport. Call Walt Disney World Reservations at 407-934-7639 to make a reservation.

Don't forget to check in going and coming with airline. As close to 24 hr. check in as possible.

To get into the "A" boarding group on Southwest Airlines, ticket holders need to check-in online as close to the 24 hour check-in window as possible. If your phone has Internet capabilities, you can check-in while at the parks and re-print your boarding pass later in the evening at your resort. 24 hour check-in boarding passes can also be confirmed and printed at Resort Concierge desks in the lobby of Disney resorts and at Guest Services/Relations at Disney parks and at Downtown Disney.

* General tips: cinderella dinner.....Use DDE card, and request to sit next to the window so you can see the sunset over Fantasyland. We were by the elevator, which was fine - but we were in the traffic flow. Fairy Godmother comes out and does this big routine and interacts with everyone seated on the floor, so if you want that, request to be seated on the floor. Personally, I would prefer being by the stained glass windows.

Also, I think everyone automatically thinks of "Breakfast" when they think of CRT - and we got dinner ressies for 4 like TWO WEEKS OUT! So - don't overlook doing dinner, because it was really a nice thing. Our ressies were at 5:50, so it worked out that we were finished about 20 minutes before Wishes started.

TheMouseForLess tips: The prime rib was HUGE. Also, use DDE card and tell them this when you make ressies. They didn't ask for my # over the phone - but I did have to show the card when I got there. One GOOD thing about this is that you have to pay for this meal at the time you order (and it includes tip!), so it is a nice feeling to know that you show up, eat, and you aren't even worried about the bill, or how much you are spending because it is already paid for. That was a major plus with the budget.

Extra Comments: We had to wait about 15 minutes to be photographed with Cinderella! We had our daughter in a cute dress, but lots of girls were DECKED OUT in FRESH cindy outfits - like their parents had a bag at the park just for the dress. Also they had crown, shoes, bows in hair, etc. - something to keep in mind if you are into that. I thought having her in a cute dress would have been enough, but she was just in awe seeing all of the other little princesses walking around. The photos we got were GREAT and are normally priced around $26 at other character buffets (like Chef Mickey or Restaurantosaurus) so if you think about the price of this, minus discount for DDE and the fact that pictures are included, this was really a great deal.

Hope this helps,

Hi Everyone!!

I am so super lucky this year and will be going on (essentially) two cruises in one month - one next week (hence the ticker in my sig) and this one in March!

For this March 19 Wonder Cruise, it will be me (24 y/o) and my 20 y/o sister! We went together last year at Spring Break as well, so we are really excited, of course!! We are both pretty crafty as well, so since I am new to the DIS, I am new to the whole idea of door decorations and Fish Extenders etc...I'd love to participate and I know she would be too! I'm most definitely going to send her some of the info here!!!
:thumbsup2
Stepody,

This is for you too. I was going through my list of things needed and while you can find this stuff on the board I thought I'd make it easy for you guys to find.

One thing i read in the passporter guide was that there is a concession stand outside the theatre for the nightly shows. Candy, drinks, etc are SOLD there. The book recommends stopping by a buffet to pick up snacks for the show. Thus being said, ziploc baggies are a must! We also always pack our own water containers and a sharpie marker (to mark such snacks and other items).:thumbsup2

Awesome! So, are you planning on dressing up for the pirate party? I think we will have time to change clothes after Palo since our ressie is for 6pm.

I just whipped up some "pirate Pants" for my kids today. They are red and white striped capris with a zig zag hem. They were so easy, only took about 30 minutes. I'll add an eye patch and bandana to complete the outfit.

Welcome Khiguchi! I've updated the list of cruisers on page 1. Please double-check behind me to make sure I haven't left anyone off.

I went to the Gap Outlet Store on Monday and bought a new (very cute!) bathing suit and cover-up for Beth. The boys are still set with theirs from last season (how sad that Richard hasn't outgrown his yet!) and I need to bite the bullet and decide which of my suits are the least offensive. You would think that since I started running a year ago, I'd have a "beach ready" bod, but sadly, the only parts of me that firmed up are my calves and my biceps. As if that's what everyone looks at when you're wearing a bathing suit! :lmao:

Packing already? Not me, but maybe I'll get started next weekend. I'm usually a stay-up-all-night-the-night-before-we-go kind of gal, but I'm way too nervous I'll forget something important. Luckily, Chuck will be home while the kids and I are at WDW before the cruise, so I have a back-up plan. He can bring anything I forget... ;) provided he can actually find it without me!

Thanks for the welcome! =D I went shopping today and bought a new bathing suit for the upcoming cruise, I am sure it will be making the trip to the March cruise as well =)

This weekend, I'll be talking to my sister about the pirate night and if we're gonna do costumes or not!

Hi all!

Welcome to the newcomers!

I can't beleive we sail away in 4 weeks!!!

My basement is a disaster area as I'm trying to pack everything into 3 seperate stays (SSR/cruise/AKL) for 4 people. Gosh, I completely forgot about pirate night. Is that dinner the second night? I'm so confused about the dinner dress code. I understand it's pretty casual on the 3 day. I did go ahead and pack dress up clothes for the 3rd day since I have virtually no family pics of us all dressed up. Of course, I just realized that the baby is going to be in the nursery that night and DD will hopefully be in the kids club.

If anyone's interested, Target had a bunch of travel accessories for 75% off. I picked up two document holders, some luggage tags, a wet bag for the beach for around $10. It's all located in the luggage section. It's by the men's underwear department at my Target. :rotfl2:

I just tried to book reservations at Palo and they are none available! Do you think they are sold out already? I"m going to try to call the reservations number this afternoon and see if i can still get one!

The dress code depends on the restaurant. I'll double check my passport book and let you know what is says! i think capri pants or "sundays best" dresses are the code for most nights. There is no formal night on the 3 day cruise.

Thanks for the heads up ont he beach bag! i need to get one.

I made my reservtions for Palo the first week of January and several of the time slots for all 3 nights were taken.:scared1: Must be the place to be. We will be there 7pm on Friday night.

Also, I placed an order for my daughter from Garnet Hill and received a free collapsible beach bag. It is really neat.....just big enough for treasures and it has holes in the bottom for the water to drain out. I think it was spend $50 and get a free bag. It said the bag was $24....I thought a pretty good deal.

I think I need to register the boys for the club. :headache: Needless to say...I haven't done it yet. My husband says I always waited till the last minute...he might be right! Now I am reading all the posts and really makes me nervous!!! I haven't done much shopping and preparation yet and we are leaving in 23 days!! (we will be at WDW for 5 nights first). Oh well...

I sware I have ready all of the posts here, and most of those FAQs!!! (BTW, thanks a lot for all the good info!) But I still have some quesitons hope someone can help me...a lazy first timer that didn't do her preparation until last minute.

OK, here are my questions:

Q1: I saw Lee Ann posted that she got there early last time, so how early was that?

Q2: Our rooms are 7516 and 7518, category 5 I guess. I saw room pictures and some of them have bunker beds and some only with one sofa bed? We are planning to have one of the boys staying with grandma and grandpa, but just in case they both want to be with mommy and daddy, we want to be able to do that. Also, is the main bed queen size?

Q3: Chrisann asked me if I have signed up for the kids club yet. I obviously have not!! I will do it tomorrow!! So, if we drop them off at the kids club, do they stay there all day? what if I want to see how they are playing, take pictures, etc., can we check in and out freely?

Q4: I am disappointed to know that the water temperature will be in low 70s. Any recommendations for other activities? My 4-year old is not old enough for the Dolpin thing, my dh and I have done it before we had kids, so I am thinking about only just doing the stinray? Anyone done the bike rides?

Q5: I am still confused on the dinning. Sounds like the adult only dinners are fully booked. Anyone doing the lunch? We are booked for second seating, so if we are hungry, can we eat a small meal first at the buffet?

Q6: And I really want to confirm that there is NO formal night on our cruise, because bringing suits and dress shoes for dh and grandpa will be a real burden. I will bring a dress anyway, but if we don't need the suits and dress shoes for men, that will make a HUGE difference. Also, I read the dress code thread, they say "dress up" with "jackets", what exactly are people waring? Polo shirt OK? Or they do need a sports suit or something?

OK, I am asking too many questions. Thank you all in advance!!

Welcome Jessie! I'm glad you've joined us!

I will try my best to answer some of your questions below.
Q1: I saw Lee Ann posted that she got there early last time, so how early was that?
From what I've been reading in other threads, the port opens at 10.

I think bunk beds and queen combos are the default for Cat 5. Just note that your stateroom attendant will have to unlock and pull down the bunks so let him/her know the sleeping arrangements before you're ready to crash for the night.

Q3: Chrisann asked me if I have signed up for the kids club yet. I obviously have not!! I will do it tomorrow!! So, if we drop them off at the kids club, do they stay there all day? what if I want to see how they are playing, take pictures, etc., can we check in and out freely?
You can sign them up for the clubs online. You'll receive a pager, so if they want/need to be checked out, you'll be alerted and can come get them. Reading other people's trip reports, you can treat the club like a revolving door and no one will say a word.

Q4: I am disappointed to know that the water temperature will be in low 70s. Any recommendations for other activities? My 4-year old is not old enough for the Dolpin thing, my dh and I have done it before we had kids, so I am thinking about only just doing the stinray? Anyone done the bike rides?
No experience here, sorry.

Q5: I am still confused on the dinning. Sounds like the adult only dinners are fully booked. Anyone doing the lunch? We are booked for second seating, so if we are hungry, can we eat a small meal first at the buffet?
Palo, the adults-only restaurant, is only available for dinner on our cruise. You can always grab a snack from deck 9. One tip I've read about on other threads is to order a cheese and cracker plate from room service to eat while you're getting ready for the evening shows. Sounds like great advice!

No real "formal" night. You'd want to dress up if you do manage to get a Palo seating, but polo shirts are fine for the main dining rooms.

Bear in mind, I've only done one DCL cruise and that was back in 2002, so I welcome anyone else to answer if I screwed up in any way!

Hi everyone- this is my 1st post, so forgive me if I mess it up. :upsidedow This will be our first cruise with the kiddos. On the cruise will be me, my DH, DD (8 yo), and DS (5 yo.) We are in stateroom 7604. Hopefully there will be lots of kiddos for our kids to play with! :) My DH and I are hoping for some alone time b/c we both work opposite shifts and don't see each other much! We are from Indiana, and were just down to FL for our annual Christmas trip in December. I am a certified Disney freak! Looking forward to meeting lots of new friends on the ship too. I know we'll all have a blast. Any other cruisers from the Indiana area?? We are trying to escape the cold!! Also, does anyone know how clean they keep the Oceaneer Club/Lab? We've had so much sickness in IN this year, it just really concerns me that my kids will pick up yet ANOTHER bug! :sad2:

Welcome, Winnefeldfam! My 8yo DD and 5yo DS are excited to meet yours!

I was wondering about a meet as well. I just read about the CC treasure hunt and thought that might be fun. Or maybe we could gather before the Sail Away party. When and where have other DISers met up?

No cruise docs for me yet. I'll be racing to the mailbox daily now!

Hey everyone! This is my first post and I'm still trying to figure this site out. I am khiguchi sister and I am so excited for the cruise! My sister and I have been talking about all kinds of things to do that we have to do before the cruise. This is definately going to be one of the best Spring Breaks ever!

We have not gotten our cruise docs yet either! Someone mentioned a treasure hunt on CC? Where did you get info on that?

Thanks for the welcoming everyone! :goodvibes My name is Carol, my husband, Mike and my DD8, Lauren and DS5, Cole. We still haven't received our cruise docs either. We are really looking forward to the cruise though! We have resies for Palo on the last night at 9 (it was all I could get). I'm not sure if we should go or not. I don't want to miss any of the other restaurants except for Parrot Cay. :) We are also doing the stingray feeding at CC first thing in the morning. I really hope the water isn't too cold! :cutie: Does anyone know what movies will be playing at the theatre?

Welcome Jessie! I'm glad you've joined us!

I will try my best to answer some of your questions below.
Bear in mind, I've only done one DCL cruise and that was back in 2002, so I welcome anyone else to answer if I screwed up in any way!

Thanks a lot!! I am really looking forward to the trip now! Reading all the threads and tips, overwhelmed!!

Wow! I haven't been on here in a few days...Looks like I missed some exciting stuff.

Welcome to Khiguchi, Aliswa, Plano Jessie and any other newbies to our cruise meet! :yay:

I can't wait... We are going to have SO much fun!

Plano Jessie...my sister lives out your way. We are near Mansfield. :)

Aunt Stepody, what a small world!! If you happen to in town before the trip, we can meet up, but we definitely will have a lot of fun together on the ship!

We will be on land for 5 nights before the cruise, so if anyone wants to meet before then it will be wonderful. Otherwise, I say let's meet up before the sail away party! Because this is only a 3 night cruise, let's get the kids know each other so that they can play together at the day care or we can arrange activities for them together.

We haven't received the documents yet, either. And I haven't booked anything on the ship yet...But I am booking the stinray tonight. I saw they both have it on the 2 ports, which one is better? Anyone know? I am also conerned that the water will be cold so I am ordering wetsuit for both of my boys.

Lee Ann, you had such a cool idea I had to steal it!!! I read you post and saw the pictures on Thursday night, guess what, I went to Home Depot on Friday at my lunch break and got a bunch of the Mickey ears!!! Can't wait to actually use them! Thanks again for sharing the wonderful idea!!

Wilderness Lodge...we are arriving Saturday at noon. A lot of us are arriving Saturday. Meeting at MK for fireworks or something like might work out. We get the hopper on our passes, but it could be a problem for those that don't. Also, we have our ADR's planned, but I'm flexible...it's vacation!:) :thumbsup2

Hey Jessie I am PurdyBertnie's mom she said we had fellow cruisers at our hotel we actually do not arrive until Sunday, I tried to get Saturday too but since we booked the 4 day/3 day package it was not to be. Exciting to know we will all be riding the bus together. I don't know about you but we are READY to go (well not ready but wish we could go now) going to pack as much into the 4 days (although we have a ticket for the morning of as well) as we can. Going to do some old favorites (Expedition Everest, Space Mountain) stuff like that but hoping to see a few new things this time too. Nemo the musical at AK - we tried to get into this last year but the lines were unbelieveable. Looking forward to meeting everyone. Hope everyone has safe travel to our destinations.

We still have not received our documents. It's nice to actually look forward to checking the mail (not just bills.) Yes, we are going to Palo on Friday 6-8pm. Sorry, Chrisann, wish we were going the same night!

Great idea! Thanks.
I bought some gallon bags the other day--some for extras and most to pack clothing into.

:welcome: I did want to say welcome to K&J Higuchi; Plano Jessie and the Winnefeld Family!! I'm vivian, dh, and dd, maggie is 8. This is our first Disney cruise (DH and I have been on RCCL)and mine and dd's first trip to DW. We will be at DW Poly for 4 days prior to departure.

Oh, we are doing the Spirit of Aloha Dinner at the Polly on Sun. nite; Ohana character breakfast with Lilo and Stitch on Mon. if anyone is interested. We do have ressys and at The luau we are on the main floor center stage.

We are in cabin 7064. I'm glad to see more people on our deck!

Kim and I talked about maybe meeting at Ohana for dinner one night--so if anyone else is interested, it would be fun.

If DW does not work out for a meet, I think we should try to meet somewhere about an hour before the sail away party---well, that's my vote and seems like the least crazy time to meet with such a short amount of time on board. :boat:

Here's another WDW meet idea: What if we watch Wishes from the beach at the Polynesian Resort one night? That way, we won't have to worry about who has hopper passes and who doesn't. (For what it's worth, we have hoppers so I'm up for virtually anything.)

Once we're on board, I'd love to have a meet on Thursday so we can recognize each other and say hi :wave2: throughout the cruise. I love the idea of doing the Sail Away party together. Where and when should we gather?

Aunt Stepody
02-24-2009, 11:42 AM
We are in Orlando starting 03/14. We are just doing the Universal Parks instead of Disney (Not my 1st choice, but it is cheaper.) We could still meet up with you guys on WDW property i.e. (Polynesian or one of the other hotels.) I would love to see Wishes. I also LOVE the idea of Ohana. However, it would probably be difficult to get a large group in on such a late notice.

Kim...I definitely agree on meeting at the Sail Away party. I think the sooner we get the kiddos to meet...the better for them. They can start hanging out at the clubs from Day1. :)

Aunt Stepody
02-24-2009, 11:45 AM
If we do meet at the Sail Away party. Should I make a little sign to hold up that says "Aunt Stepody?" :rotfl2: Kinda like the people at the airport?

ksoehrlein
02-24-2009, 11:49 AM
I love it. Every time I see someone with a sign at the airport, I always think about that beer commercial, where the guy claims to be the person they're looking for just to get in the limo. "Why, yes I am." I'll defer to a more experienced DCL cruiser to suggest a specific meeting spot on deck, but I totally think a sign or maybe even name tags would be in order! Lime green Mickey heads, perhaps?

Aliswa

The lime green mickey head name tags are a great idea! We are not going to be at Disney ahead of the time so a sail away meeting sounds good to me!

Oh...I am so jealous that everyone has the documents already. I called my agent today and she said I should have it either tomorrow or Thursday. I am on a business trip anyway, so hopefully I will have it when I get home...

We will staying at PO Riverside starting Saturday night. So if there is plan for meet up earlier, please let me know, otherwise, I am dying to meet you all at the sail away party. I will carry a sign if that's the what everyone agrees!!

Actually ds6 is celebrating his birthday the day before the sail. So I booked charactor breakfast 3/18 moring, and my agent is booking a WISH firework cruise for me that night. The boat will fit 10, and we have 6, and I would love to have other kids to come enjoy the fireworks with us if that works for your schedule too (I wouldn't ask you to share the cost, but some extra tips for the driver might be good). Just let me know!

Aunt Aba, sorry I have been on a business trip this week, haven't got a chance to log on...I just talked to my agent again today, and she has confirmed that we are actually staying at PO Riverside, which she said it will be very nice too. I remeber going back and forth with her on this, and now I remeber that the reason we finally decided on POR is because they provide trundle beds that my boys on sleep on.

Anyway, hope we still can have chance to meet up before the sail. But we are actually not taking the bus to the port, because I didn't book the land and sea package. We booked the cat 5 rooms on the boat, but my agent suggested that I can save money just pick a moderate on land hotel, plus there is this 4 nights and 3 night free deal, so that's why we booked them seperately. So I am arranging other transporting to the port for 6 of us now.

See you soon...

Kim, OMGosh! I did receive a very nice packet from you and I've been meaning to Thank you. It seems I'm getting sick every other week. I'm sick, yet again. Plus, my bro. decided to have a huge surprise bday party for my mom's 70th bday right before we leave (!) and I have to work on 70 yrs. of photos! ohhhhh, I'm so tired and Disney has kind of been forced on a back burner. But, I'm starting to get nervous that I don't have the loose ends for Disney tied up yet.

I haven't subscribed to him yet. (TG mike) I guess I should do that in the next couple of days. Is it worth it???? I haven't found anyone to tell me if it really is.

I'm going to see if we can get reservations at Ohana on Mon. nite (or Kona)...I'm hoping since we are hotel guest we should be able to eat there. Otherwise we are hosed. :rotfl2:

Thank you again, you are so very kind to send me all that wonderful info. :flower3:

We're in! :thumbsup2 I'll be the one wandering around the dark beach asking if I know you.

PlanoJessie....are you going to be able to make the fireworks?

Also, Txgirl (Viv...trying to put real names w/screen names) aren't you staying at the Poly? Can you make it?

Molly,

Hi! Yes, we are at the Poly. I just now "told" ;) dh that we were going to eat at the Poly that night and do whatever it is we are meeting up to do afterward. whew. Since this is all so new to me, I have no idea what wishes is...I'm assuming it's the fireworks display? I've heard the Poly beach is an awesome place to watch the fireworks. I'm excited to be there. woohoo.

Hey guys,

I wanted to post an image of a couple of the magnets I'm doing for our door -esp. the one of the princesses making faces, but my thing on the bottom says I may not post attachments. :sad2: Durn, I worked hard on the ones I actually did or altered. Lots of great people on this site to help with magnets or tee shirt iron-ons, I'm so impressed.

Yes, wishes is the fireworks show at MK. I'm confused as to when they are...I thought the spectromagic parade was at 9pm and wishes at 10pm....hmmmm I will look into that a bit more.

Hi girls, I just checked the weather for Orlando, looks like it's going to be in the 60s the night we arrive at Orlando, and noticed the average high in March is only mid 70s. Well for those of us from TX, this is pretty "cold"!! But I have seen pictures people posted for Jan and Feb trips wearing shorts and short sleeves. Does anyone have experience in March weather? Kids will be disappointed if they cannot get into the pool.

Also, how about the weather in Nassau and Castaway Cay? I still haven't booked anything yet because I am afraid the water will be too cold. I did order wetsuits for both of my boys, but can someone please give me some assruance PLEASE??? I am so afraid the water will be cold and they will not have fun. :upsidedow

Jessie, where did you order wetsuits for the kids? That is a great idea! I grew up in Orlando and the weather varies anywhere from 60-90 degrees. Nassau's temperatures will be pretty similair with Orlando. When i was in Orlando a few weeks ago i wore jeans and llong sleeves. Let's all start thinking HEAT WAVE:headache:

Yes, we have been to WDW at all different times of the year. March can be cool in the morning and evenings. But, yes you can wear shorts and t-shirts in the afternoon. My DH and DS's went swimming in both January and March. It was too cold for me. The pools are "supposed to be" heated. I guess I just like mine to be like bath water. :) Don't worry though... no matter what the temp is...we will ALL still have fun. :woohoo:

Molly, since we booked the Thursday night firework cruise for Dylan's birthday, I may want to wait till then to let the kids see the fireworks. But we will see...I haven't planned out all activities yet. I will let you know sometime next week!

Sorry you will not be able to catch up with us. Ya'll have fun on the fireworks cruise though! Look forward to seeing you on the "Big" boat.

Thanks Molly! I am sure you are right. The CM that I talked to on the phone (when I was making my Kona ressie) said the fireworks were at 9pm that night. I figured they were not until 10pm, because that is when the park closes. So, I guess we get to see both Spectro and Wishes! Woo hoo!

Kim, I think wearing the green mickeys is a great idea for this meet too.

Look forward to seeing all of you. :cheer2:

Thanks for this tip, Aliswa...do you think the Disney Cruise Police will say anything to us, if we do this? :lmao: No, really...I plan on bringing on all different size baggies. You never know when you might need them.

Glad to hear the packet arrived, but sorry to hear you've been sick. Good luck with your mom's party!

TG Mike is worth it if you have lots of time to read through pages and pages of info on the web. His site gives you an "automated vacation planner (AVP)," but it's not really a go-here-first-go-there-next kind of thing. He does provide sample itineraries that you can dig up, but the AVP doesn't include them on your main page and it takes some navigating to get to the sample tour plans. The AVP is more like "Today is your 90-day mark and you can start making your dining reservations now." Really helpful if you start planning several months out, but in your case, I'd recommend the book "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World" instead so that you can bring it with you and read on the way. The back of the book gives recommended touring plans, which really help you map out your day step by step and avoid the worst of the lines.

Hi Aunt Stepody- I can't reply to your message! But, we would love to catch up with your kids too! I'll have to give you more detail, but my husband and I are in a similar field to you! Long story though! Hopefully we'll see everyone at the sail away party, if not before somewhere on the ship!!:thumbsup2

Have you booked any time for Ruby at Flounders yet? I am at a loss of what to book for fear of the baby missing out on something!

Yeah, I've booked 10 hours for her. I think CC is the only thing I think she'll really have fun at.

Allison, I got it from Amazon, quite pricy, here is the link, but I want to let them get into the water and I don't have to worry about they getting cold.

I also found a great water shoeson OneStepAhead, but they are in back order until 3/13, so I had to go with alternatives on Amazon.

We all love waters!! But we are all so don't like cold weathers, especially me!!
