Now, I meant to do this last year after all of the Podcast Holiday Hilarity surrounding this hidden vegetable (?)... but I forgot. So instead, I thought I'd do it this year.

So, Podcast fans, get out your cameras, and let's see those pickles!

Cheers,
ExBellhop

PS - I am currently at work, so I will post when I get home... however, I may have forgotten to post by then, so I thought I'd do it now, lest I forget!

I think I have 2 pickles in total - my aunt gave me another one last year for Christmas. I found one when doing decorations last weekend and have already hidden it in the tree. I'll have to get it out in secret and photo it.

It'll be fun this year, as Zoe is old enough to actually try to find it.

For us, the pickle gift is not age or gender related - usually chocolate of some kind. Before kids, it was a Disney mug or something similar.

I can't help but think of the family guy episode with herbert the pervert saying "hey little boy let me see your pickle". But being a disney site, I'm guessing there is a real pickle involved here.

Actually, it's supposed to be a German tradition - a Christmas ornament (usually a blown glass one) shaped like a pickle is "hidden" within the branches of the Christmas tree. Guests are invited to search the tree for the hidden ornament and if they find it, they are given a special present that has been wrapped and put under the tree.

It's really fun, if you have a big family or a lot of friends over for a party, to watch them all clamoring over each other to find the pickle. You want to make the present unisex and for any age, just in case - you never know who finds them.

They sell the pickle ornaments at the Christmas Shop in the Germany Pavillion at Epcot.

ETA - Here's an article from about.com that discusses the whole thing. Interesting!

Just went and took a picture of ours. Well, I had to get it out of the box and hang it on the tree, it doesn't usually go on until Christmas Eve. Just our two boys search for it on Christmas morning and the present is usually a game or a puzzle.

It's very tiny and hard to find when hidden.
