I was wondering if you booked CRT with 2 credits and later want to pay OOP, do you need to call and let disney know or can you just pay when you get there?

When you call they put a hold on your credit card just in case you do not show. They need you to pay or be on the DDP before you get there!

None of this is accurate.

1. They do not put a hold on your credit card. They take a credit card number when you make the reservation and will charge it if you do not show up, but no hold is placed.

2. You do not pay or have dining plan credits deducted until the time of your dinner.

3. You must provide a credit card number when you make the reservation even if you are on the dining plan.

Right I can see how I miss worded the hold. They hold the number in case you do not show, but you have to leave the number anyways. When I called the dining number they told me I had to pay in advance for the meal if I was not on the dining plan so I just wrote what I was told. I have only used the dining plan so I can just go by what they told me on the phone. I have also read on this board that people once there decided to use dining credits instead of their prepaid money they already put down and CRT refunded their money when they were there to their card. Not sure I guess.

I would wait till you got there and they should be able to take your choice of payment. I am one of the ones in the opposite situation- I paid in full, then got DDP. Calling Disney Dining was fruitless, telling them at the check-in of CRT got it refunded no problem. I am just guessing that your alternate situation would be handled just as easily at the check-in. (And without any long distance calls!)

I'm not meaning to sound stupid, but I just want to make sure I've got this right. If I'm on the DDP and I call to make ressies I need to give them a credit card number, but nothing will be charged. When I get there I can pay with 2 credits from the DDP or OOP. Is this right?

Yes, unless more than one CM lied to me. FWIW, I booked CRT this way for our upcoming January trip. I made the reservation a couple months ago, gave my credit card number, and have not been charged or had a hold placed on my card. We'll probably be paying OOP for it, unless the others in our traveling party are willing to give up two other dinner reservations to have CRT covered on the dining plan.

we were just able to get an ADR for new years day for myself and DD, we have the dining plan, gave a credit card number to secure ressie and card was charged, we are hoping to pay OOP for this, but our card was definately charged.

If you are on the dining plan, the credit card you give them will be charged if you do not cancel within the required time and do not show up for the reservation. I believe they charge a no-show fee per person. They do not place a "hold" on the card. It will be charged only if you don't show up.

The post above was probably a mistake by the CM who took the credit card. Either they did not hear the poster say they were on the dining plan, or they made an error in charging the credit card. If you say you are on the dining plan at the time you make the reservation, I understand they are not supposed to charge you the full amount of the meal, just take the credit card number to hold the reservation. It's also possible that they charged the card because the reservation was for New Years Day. Don't know if there's any special procedure for a major holiday.

You must give a credit card number when you make the reservation, whether you are on the dining plan or not.

It has been my experience whether paying cash or on the DDP that nothing was charged until we actually ate. They did take the credit card number and it was explained that it would be charged if we were a "no show." When we got there, we were asked if we would be paying in cash or with the DDP.

Perhaps the CM did it wrong, but when we booked CRT dinner last February for May 2008, I told the CM we were on the DDP, but would pay OOP for CRT because we were using 2 credits for California Grille. Our credit card was charged immediately...it was on the February bill for the full amount, 4 adults. At the time, the CM told me that if we cancelled with the required notice, the amount would be credited back. Or if we decided to use DDP credits for CRT they would credit our charge card at that time. But they very definitely charged our CC for the full amount in advance.

The official procedure is that CRT is paid in full at time of booking.

If you say you plan to pay with dining plan credits when you book, they are supposed to take your credit card for the no-show fee, but not charge your card for the meal.

Whether or not all dining CMS are following this procedure exactly is the question - apparenly some do and some don't.

The previous poster was apparently charged in full because they said that while they were on the dining plan they intended to pay OOP for CRT.

You can apparently change your method of payment at the restaurant, which sounds as if it is easier to do than trying to do it through WDW-DINE.
