I would bet the next time this moves.. it will be to the Smithsonian...

Moving it to Epcot would cost a small fortune and for what benefit exactly?

apart from the fact it fits more with the epcot theme, it spoils the magic of disney and the fact that a nice new show could take it's place, nothing

I completely agree that this would normally not be out of the question for Disney.. but the sheer costs of the underlying custom mechanical stuff that rotate that theatre seating.. That would be some pretty serious dollars to move.

Add to that, I suspect that a lot of it wouldn't be 'removable' in the traditional sense and would either require part destruction of the building or complete re-machining of custom pieces for the new install..

Again - all doable.. but the cost would be astronomical... and since so many fans say MK is "Walt's Park" and that attraction was "Walt's Baby" -- it fits best at MK on that level. I agree that theming wise, it *might* be a better fit at Epcot, there's plenty of space.

How would Carousal Of Progress : The History of Brewing Through The Ages spoil the magic of Disney? Don't you drink beer?

Sea World has the Beer School attraction. This is just taking it up a notch as only Disney can do!

I doubt they would spend the money for a move.
Agree I could see it at the Smithsonian -- or an Orlando museum.

Don't forget, it's already been move once from the New York world's fair to Disney so it must be designed to be moved. I'm sure a new foundation would be required but other than that??

I disagree with this. Sure, its not a "must do every trip" ride, but it's kinda cool in a nostalgic sense! I always walk off the ride with a smile.
Take Alien Escape for instance... They turned it into Stitch's Great Escape and now the only GOOD thing about it is the yummy smell of the chilidog! :lmao: I had to stop at a fast food joint on the trip back home and grab me a chilidog after riding that! I craved a chilidog all week! (Yes, I think the chili dog smells yummy!)

I am sort of a traditionalist on rides. The Pirates of the Caribbean movie was about the RIDE, NOT the other way around. Disney screwed it up by putting Jack all through it. It might as well be called "6 places to see Jack Sparrow" now. Sure, the Barbossa fog is neat, but they removed the whole nostalgic aspect of the ride. Now it looks like an outdated ride with a fancy new pirate superstar.

Same with the Mexico ride... I've tried over and over to "get" the new meaning of it... "Finding Donald?"
My point is as much as I love all things Disney I really don't have much confidence in Disney's ability to revamp their classic rides. The ONLY ride they actually improved when they refurbished it was the Haunted Mansion. Now I must admit I was VERY impressed with the changes to that one. They "clarified" the story about the bride. I mean she was always there... but no one knew who she was. She was always just "the scary red light blinking monster woman"!

My point is if there is any truth to them moving it, I would hope they completely remove it, and replace it with something BRAND NEW and completely different. A good example is Toy Story Mania... now THAT was a good addition to Disney!!! They completely eliminated ANY reference to WWTBAM. They tied in a classic Disney movie, that is (afterall) one of their best sellers ever, and they did it while making a heck of a ride too!
Also I can see the reason the OP would feel it belongs more in Epcot... but 75% of the Carousel is set in the PAST. Only 25% is set in the future. And to be honest... even THAT part is starting to look a little outdated. The Christmas tree should be LED. If I recall correctly its still regular bulbs, and no one progressive uses regular bulbs, and the whole "voice activation technology" went out in the 80s). I had a 1983 Maxima that talked. It was cool, and they discontinued the feature with the 89 model.:rolleyes1

They ruined Pirates. I hope they leave Carousel alone. I like it just the way it is. JMHO We all have one. popcorn::

The animatronics and the sets were moved. The structures were not moved.

General Electric sponsored three different revolving theater structures. These were very expensive theater structures, each involving a precise circular track that allows the six seating areas to travel around a central core.

The structure for 1964-5 New York World's Fair was demolished, along with most of the other World's Fair structures. The structure at Disneyland became America Sings (and is now Innoventions).

As far as the OP's rumor is concerned, I'd put the chance of this rumor becoming a reality at very, very close to zero. There is no business justification for tearing down the structure at MK and rebuilding it at great expense at Epcot, just to move a charming but antiquated attraction -- especially with General Electric having long abandoned its sponsorship.

I love the Carousel of Progress but I only get on it when I'm doing Magic Kingdom thoroughly ...something that is much rarer these days.

I would like Disney to give a shot at updating the ride. Some of the earlier scenes probably aren't meaningful to people born after 1970. I was born in 1959 and it took me quite a while to even notice that in one scene there were cords strung all over the place using the limited electric service in the house.

If I ruled Disney I'd make the first and last scenes very similar except that in the last scene the similar looking family life will be powered by solar and labor intensive items like making and maintaining clothing would be eliminated (not clothing eliminated just the work that goes with it). I'd also make the transitional scenes ones that people can relate to more easily. Finally I might add a museum to host the original Worlds Fair scenes. And yes with all of that putting it in EPCOT might make more sense. And if moving it means building a new ride mechanism then maybe it could be made larger.

That said I have to wonder how expensive could this be? As compared to a rollercoaster or the world of energy.

I was born well after 1970 and I think the early scenes are the best. It gives me a chance to see what life was like in the time before my parents and I can remember. I also like the idea of a Carousel of Progress that covers the 20th century more than a Carousel that lops over into the 21st century. First off, I've already seen that family in the 21st century (Horizons was the literal sequel to Carousel of Progress, complete with the same family and voices.) No need to rehash it. Second, the last Tomorrowland refurb was to a retro future rather than an actual future. So, I think Carousel works well the way it is.

Now if they chose to go back to having an Horizons-style sequel attraction over at Epcot again, I probably wouldn't complain . . . ;)

I enjoy the attraction the way it is... if they can "add" a scene to it (maybe the room we end up in which is also the entrance....curtain down at beginning and have it up for the finale with a 2195 scene?) thats fine... but the older scenes are cool....as the previous poster already said seeing the way things were 100 years ago and how they progressed is very very interesting! Also as yet another poster mentioned this one has Walt written all over it, and is the dog actually modeled after Walt's pet dog?

If you are going to post on forums, then try and spell things right. Incorrect spelling diminishes EVERYTHING you say and no one will take you seriously. Even your signature line has incorrect spellings of simple words. No one begrudges a typo or a word that is pretty close.. but when its so far off, thats another story. Besides, there is a built in spell check... look for dotted red underlined words... those are mispelled.

Yes, the dog was in fact modeled after a dog that Walt owned. He is also in the PoC, the scene with the keys in his mouth, and the pirates attempting to coax them away from him.

The sad thing is I can't even remember what WOL is. I've been 17 times and counting. I always choose slower times to go, and I'm guessing that's why I haven't seen it in so long. I seem to remember riding it as a child, but it has never been open when I've been there.
And while we're on the subject... What's Timekeepers? I haven't seen that one either. :confused3

Well Wonders of Life was a full pavilion, inside a large, bright dome. It housed different attractions, like Body Wars (similar to Star Tours) and Cranium Command (a show where you're inside the head of a boy), and smaller attractions inside.

Timekeeper used to be where Monsters Inc. is now in Tomorrowland. It was a 360 circlevision movie with Robin Williams playing the timekeeper and went to find different famous inventors or something. I can't recall exactly how it went, but it was good.
