We own at AKV with a December UY and plan on buying BCV in about a year. Does it matter if the new resort UY is different from our original? I'm guessing not but figured I'd throw it out there.

If you do the add-on from Disney, they will only sell you the same UY that you already have. You could purchase a new master contract at what ever the new member minimum is at the time and get a different UY.

If purchasing resale, you can purchase what ever UY you want.

If you have different UYs, you will not be able to combine points at the 7 month mark. You would have to use your once a UY transfer to combine points.

Having two different use years requires a little more tracking but it does not otherwise have significant impact. The differences:

1. The two contracts are separate. Each will have its own banking deadline that applies to the particular points in the contract. Thus, you need to keep close track of both contracts.

2. You cannot just mix them at 7 months out to reserve any particular night in a trip. Instead, to use both for a trip, you need to use points from one contract for some of the nights, points from the other for the rest, and then have the two reservations linked so it becomes one reservation (you, of course, can do that all in one call).

3. You pay your dues separately on each. Thus, if you have automatic monthly withdrawal on your checking account, you will have two separate withdrawals per month rather than one.

Basically if you have two contracts with different use years, they are totally separate memberships, each with it's own membership number.

They would be as distinct from each other as your current contract is distinct from mine.

Unless there's some compelling reason to change use year, you're better off having any new purchase as an add-on to your current contract.

Can you use points from different master contracts to book one reservation?

yes. you can link the separate reservations. you just can't combine points from different contracts to book a single night (unless you go through the hassle of transferring pts...which uses up the single annual transfer for both contracts.)

So, it sounds like the best thing to do when we buy BCV is to make sure it is a December UY to match our AKV account. Or else we might have a little hassle on our hands. Is this correct?

yes.

for BCV, you may be better off adding on directly since you don't pay any closing costs on an add-on.

if you buy resale, make sure to let DVC know early on that you would like the BCV contract under the same member number. they should catch it, but if they don't, it might wind up as 2 separate contracts even if they have the same UY month.
