Can't believe the zoom on this thing! I'm little more than a point-and-shooter. These were taken on auto with IS on shot only, handheld in quite strong wind and at opposite ends of the optical zoom, (28mm-560mm).

funny, at one time I was satisfied with 12x zoom. Now I want that 20x telephoto zoom!

Very nice. Although I must admit I prefer the wide shot out of the two. :thumbsup2

Amazing how much zoom they can pack in such a small package!

Wow! I have the S3 IS and thought that zoom (12x) was amazing, but it's nothing compared to the 20x!! I WANT ONE! Darn economy.

I don't know whether it will make you Americans feel any better, but the SX1 is currently not available in North America and so you can't (easily) get it anyway... You can get the SX10, which has the same lens, but the SX1 also does 1080 HD video.

It's a little bit bigger and heavier than the S3 but I'm finding my way round it and loving it. The auto focus locks onto moving objects and adjusts with them. No more blurry dog shots!

It has been cold, but very clear and sunny for the past two weeks. So it was inevitable that the camera arrived about two hours after that weather broke, and the haar (coastal fog) was starting to come in...

I took some photos with it near work, but they do not show the camera off to its best advantage. It does, however, have a phenomenal zoom range and is pretty competent for such a small-sensor camera. I haven't had a chance to try the HD video yet.

Unless something special happens, it is now in its box and under the tree until Christmas time. However, the photos that I did take can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/atp/sets/72157611079992430/ I wouldn't rush to the site unless you are particularly interested.

Should anyone be interested, there is a video from the camera at http://www.vimeo.com/2504489 The flash version of it is pretty ropey, but you can download the full original if you sign up (free) to be a vimeo member
