Let me introduce myself, my name is Bev and I am 46 year's old (I have a bit of a mental block now as to my age, keep having to ask the hubbie) and I love Orlando.

We have been across several times now, started back in 1996 when we went with my parents and sister. My sons were only 5 and 7 at the time and loved the Disney magic, though the Universal magic was not as powerful at the time with its man eating shark.

Over the years, as a family we have enjoyed each and every holiday, and each time getting something different from the holiday. Nowadays, the sons are 20 and 18 are right into Islands and Universal so we have started to stay onsite at Universal.

Earlier this year, for the first time, we stayed in the Hard Rock Hotel and thought it was the coolest hotel ever, very hip and vibrant. After our visit we started to think wouldn't it be nice to stay again.

Over the months, off and on, we discussed the possibility of going there in December as this is the first year in many years the sons are not studying for mock GCSEs, AS, A2 or university exams which have the unfortunate timetable of being in January. We also felt that the sons had everything they wanted and felt like the majority of what we would buy for them would end up in their drawers. So we started to think what about cancelling Christmas (only joking) and having a family holiday instead.

As time went on serious thought was given. We approached the eldest to seek his opinion, a resounding yes, go to Orlando or have lots of Christmas presents, wasn't much of a decision for him and he jumped at the chance.

Eventually we had a word with the youngest, who is away at Uni, and surprisingly he thought the same. I think it was only me having a problem with not buying lots of presents for them to open on Christmas morning. We did sweeten it with the promise of holiday spends to buy stuff for Christmas though, Hollister and Abercrombie and Fitch here we come! Or I should say there they go because I will be off somewhere else. Handy having these Tracfones.

As soon as I had the go ahead I booked up ten days in Orlando staying at the Hard Rock, flying from Manchester Airport on 10th December (tomorrow   ), this was with only 3 weeks to go. As a result the last few weeks have been hectic, getting Christmas family presents, food, wrapping and everything done, then moving on to holiday stuff.

Till we come to now, tomorrow we fly, the packing is done, we are ready to go. A slight hiccup is that the eldest is full of cold, which he has kindly shared with my hubbie but thanks to fellow Dissers, we have plenty of remedies to try on them, as I am a bit worried about their ears and the air pressure with everything being blocked up. The hubbie is not feeling well at all and is a bit out of sorts with himself and as a result making me feel the same. After doing the packing he has now suggested checking the 3 cases fit in to the boot (bought a new car since the last holiday), fortunately, they all fitted which is just as well because if we had to go down to 2 cases we wouldn't be able to buy anything at all.

Anyway, we are going to drive down from home (just outside Middlesbrough) at the dead of night, something like 2 am I think to be at the airport in good time for check in at 6 am. Online check in didn't work again for me today, don't know why.

We normally drive down the day before but decided not to for this holiday which has added to my worries of getting to the airport on time. I don't suppose I will sleep tonight, it always feels like Christmas when I was kid when I know I am going to Orlando the next day so far too excited to sleep.

Anyway hope to check in again some time and let you know how we are getting on.

Bye for now.

Thanks for the best wishes.

For some reason today I was calm as calm can be and didn't get stressed out or anything may have been I was too tired with travelling through the night but definitely made the difference.

The roads were quite spooky, almost like being in Survivor, with only the odd car in sight as we travelled at 2.30 am from near Middlesbrough down to Manchester. We parked the car up, headed to the airport, had breakfast (not to be recommended) in the airport arrivals area then went to check in.

Hurdle here as it wouldn't let us check in using the kiosk system, we thought perhaps it was because the main desk wasn't open but it did the same thing when it was open. All we got was a slip saying to contact a Virgin Rep which we did. However, we were whisked to the front, then did a face to face check in but he stopped and had to ring someone about us. Well all my fears that something would go wrong were coming to the surface but as I was totally chilled it was a case of what will be will be. He mentioned our name and then continued to check us in. I can only presume it was some kind of on the spot security check but we couldn't check in online either so I don't know what was up.

We headed into the airport, filled in the waiver forms and hung around. The eldest son and hubbie sprawled out over the benches and went to sleep. They are both full of cold unfortunately. The flight took off just half an hour late. The hubbie was sitting in a seat in a row in front of us but one near an exit row but had the door near his leg room. He still felt like they were good seats as he could stretch his legs right out.

The flight was uneventful though at some time I resembled a zombie asleep and was promptly videoed by my youngest son. Many thanks I thought, not! Food was okay, loads of big films on but as we were tired we tended to doze for a lot of the time.

Arrivals at Orlando were a breeze, quickly through Customs, picked cases up and out for the car well within an hour and then concentrated really hard and managed not to get lost on the straight forward run to the Hard Rock.

Unfortunately, the rooms were not ready as my eldest just wanted to crash with him being poorly but we decided it was better to have a wander round Universal for an hour rather than just hang around the lobby. The lobby was decorated with a lovely Christmas tree, decorations and a gingerbread house.

Universal was decorated with two huge snowmen outside and decorations over the main entrance that looked class. There were several inflatables of cartoon characters round the park plus we caught the Macyś Christmas Parade which was really Christmassy. At the end fake snow flies round after Father Christmas lights up a rather fantastic Christmas tree. The floats were all really good.

We just did a couple of rides Jaws and The Mummy as we didn't want to push it too much. I had a lovely Hot Chocolate at Starbucks which felt Christmassy, then we headed back to the Hotel.

The rooms were ready and were nice and quiet. I added my extra service time and minutes to my tracphones. The hubbie crashed out for quite a while followed by the youngest but I didn't want to sleep too early because I didn't want to be up early tomorrow. The eldest surprisingly didn't go to sleep straight away. I had a bath, emailed home and did this report.

Current time here 8 pm and I don't want to go to sleep, probably all those dozes on the plane helped. Anyway hope you all have had good days. Oh and before I forget Universal was so quiet it was so weird after being used to it in peak times.

Morning all,

One thing you can say about the Hard Rock is, it has the most comfortable beds, slept like a log from 8.30 pm till 6.30 am so I think I have caught up with my sleep. This whole holiday is about relaxing and for the first time I have not got an itinerary to follow we are just going with the flow which feels so liberating but after going in July, this is a very welcome bonus holiday. We don't feel the need to be rushing round, doing parks 24/7.

Me and the hubbie are just chillin at the moment watching the tv. Storms are forecast today and the county is on a tornado watch but who cares, we are here in the best place in the world and if it rains there are the shops and more shops.

I hope you all have good days and hope by sharing our trip it helps you look forward to your next one. I also enjoy reading your trip reports and feel it is only right I do the same back as I appreciate the time it takes and always seem to pick up some tips from you.

Hubbie just seen the Disney cruise liner and fancies it. May do that at some time. Just described one of Mandy's photos where her and her hubbie are sitting in the liner and in the background you can see Castaway Beach (think that is what it is called) and the sandy beach with the Pirateś ship. Looks like we may try that one day now, I loved that photo.

All the best.

Well it poured down for a good part of the day but that didn't stop us having fun.

We hit the Mall of Millennia, I picked up a lovely Fossil bag and some cultured pearls, they picked up stuff from Hollister and Abercrombie and Fitch. We went down to Downtown Disney to buy some AP, we were drenched just jumping from shop to shop.

We popped into the Earl of Sandwich, as Claireś photos had tempted me to go, we all enjoyed a Holiday sandwich of turkey with seasonal fillings. It was yummy.

We then went across to the Premium Outlets to look at the Converse shoes for the eldest. The pair he was after was more expensive than in the Mall of Millennia which didn't seem right. We also popped into the supermarket before returning to Universal.

We went into Universal for an hour or so, doing a few rides and taking photos of the Christmas stuff. This park closed at 6 pm so we went back to the room to pick up some long sleeved tops as it was starting to get a little bit chilly. Forgot to say the sun came out at about 2 pm so it was nice from then.

We headed over to Epcot, catching Spaceship Earth, the Candlelight Procession and the fireworks. I loved all of these and especially loved the Epcot Christmas tree and celebration tunnel, forgot what it is called. It is certainly worth coming at this time of the year to see the Christmas decorations.

After the fireworks we nipped back up to Universal and settled in for the night.

Thanks.

I woke up quite early this morning, 5.30 am so caught up with emailing family back home and now updating this blog, everyone else is still asleep.

We have not decided what to do today yet and as I said yesterday it is so refreshing not to be following an itinerary as we do in peak times. The crowd levels in Universal are low, with FOTL we are going straight on to rides but normal ride times are at a minimal, the longest in Universal yesterday was for The Simpsons which was 20 minutes. Epcot was a lot busier, we only did Spaceship Earth because the aim was to just enjoy walking around the World. Spaceship Earth was a walk on, as it usually is in peak season on an evening. Wait times for Mission Space was 5 minutes and Test Track 50 minutes when we arrived after 7 pm.

I love seeing everywhere decorated for Christmas and everything is done to such a high standard. It is definitely worth coming at this time of the year to see everything.

Weather is supposed to be sunny with the odd showers today, I believe. The rain yesterday was relentless and almost like driving in a fog with the windwipers only just coping. Going on the Disney property had loads of surface water which you couldn't see and even when going slow was sending water right over the tops of cars.

Yesterday I managed to eat at the Earl of Sandwich and the Tangerine Cafe both places I had wanted to try. The hubbie has not got an appetite at the moment with his cold though it isn't stopping us getting out and about. The eldest is at the coughing stage and the youngest is at the beginning stage, I am just sniffling but all in all we are all doing okay health wise.

It feels so relaxing coming at this time of the year, everything seems so laid back compared to the summer and we are all quite enjoying this comparison.

Well thatś all for now, hope to catch up later in the day and tell you all what we have been up to.

Bye

Thanks.

We had a nice time in Animal Kingdom, doing a few rides and seeing the animals. The highlight being the gorillas which we always love to see and especially seeing them beat their chests. It was fairly chilly but warmed up as it got further into the day.

We were lucky and got awarded a Dream Team prize of being allowed to stay in the park for an hour after closing. Quite a lot of people had them but we didn't think we would be staying that long but it made a nice souvenir.

We headed across to the Florida Mall and did a bit of shopping. I bought some bargains from Gap which I am dead chuffed with. Their bought stuff from Hollister, Abercrombie and Oakley.

We didn't stop that long because the youngest was feeling a bit unwell and needed to sleep so we headed back to the hotel where he has promptly crashed out after I did him a hot bath because he feels cold.

The eldest is after this computer and I think me and the hubbie are just going to have a wander down to City Walk for a while whilst the youngest has his sleep.

The news has had three bits of disturbing news on it over the last 2 days that there have been armed robberies at Subway, Dennys and Walgreens all the evening and in the tourist areas. Makes me glad to be sticking to parks on a night.

Anyway nipping to Citywalk now see you later.

Thanks, I hope he is too. It is only 4.33 over here so he is fast asleep. I went to sleep early last night so consequently have woken up too early this morning and far too excited to sleep. Unfortunately, my cold seems to have got worse now.

Anyway yesterday we enjoyed our walk to Citywalk though felt a bit disappointed that there were no Christmas decorations other than in the shops. We especially liked the Bubba Gump shop and the hubbie did the Bubba Gump photo outside the shop. We spotted loads of stuff we thought the youngest would like.

When we got back the youngest had just woken up, I checked his temperature as he seemed to be very hot and was not surprised to find he had a temperature. A quick nip down to the shop was required to buy some more painkillers, they must wonder what we are doing with them, but my supply had petered out quite quickly this holiday. The tablets helped to bring his temperature down. They had been using the Sudafed nose spray everyone recommended in one of my other threads and agree it is really good. Looks like I may have to use it today.

With the youngest not being too well and with it being cold outside I thought the best place for him would be bed. He was, however, feeling a bit hungry which was a good sign because he had not ate much all day, neither had any of us, it could be the first time we come back from Florida and dont put on any weight. We are just grabbing stuff as and when someone was hungry. The last thing I had ate was an apple pie and hot chocolate in AK at 11 am, now it was 7. Time for some food I thought. The eldest was hungry, and was quite happy to stay in and let his brother recover so we left them and just nipped out to the nearest Subway, bought some lovely sandwiches from a totally gold toothed server and bought some painkillers from the 7/11.

We were going to rent a movie but the lads were already watching Bear Ghyllis on a surviving programme which they were finding quite entertaining. It wasnt long till I started feeling tired as I had been up since 5.30 so I left them and snuggled down in my room, closely followed by the hubbie. I woke in the night only to discover it was only 12.30 and now obviously have woken up early but at least it gives me chance to catch up with this.

I dont know what we are going to do today, I am hoping the temperature may be a bit warmer first thing but am not too bothered just dont want any rain. We were just saying it was a lot better it being cooler with everyone being at different stages of this cold bug we have got, the youngest felt freezing all day yesterday and couldnt warm up till we did him a bath, then he warmed up too much. If the weather had been like July I think we wouldnt have been able to do anything much because we would have just been too tired in the heat but as it is we can cope. We will just take it easy with the youngest and give him plenty of breaks today. Hopefully we will be off out somewhere for a while.

Cya later.

Thanks Sue, glad you enjoying them.

Weather was a little bit chilly this morning but sunny and now 1.09 has warmed up quite a lot.

We have just been down to Islands and all the rides were walk on with FOTL but were only 5 minutes anyway for anyone else. The park was quite quiet compared to what we are used to in July.

We went on all the big rides, The Hulk, Dr Doom, Spiderman and Duelling Dragons (front row) plus Cat in the Hat and the Snitch ride or whatever it is called. Suessland is decorated really well for Christmas. The hubbie bought a Grinch hat and has been walking round with it on which has had a few funny looks (bright green with a face on at finger like things sticking out of the top), the eldest bought Grinch gloves.

We went to the Bubba Gump shop and the youngest bought a Run Forrest Run teeshirt, I bought some magnets. We followed this by lunch at Nascar.

The youngest is feeling a bit better and is managing to wander round okay. I just have the same symptoms but not mentally bothering me if you know what I mean.

Anyway just popped back to the room for 5 minutes, off to Disney now.

Hope you are all having a good Saturday.

Morning

Thanks Nat, I hope you enjoyed your trip to New York and would love to read a trip report about it, hint, hint.:goodvibes

I will just finish yesterday off now as I was too tired to do anything but jump into bed by the time we got in last night.

After leaving the Hard Rock the hubbie wanted to go in that hunting, fishing shop Pro Bass or something like that at Festival Bay. It is such a strange shop with some equally strange people. The car park was filled with big jeeps which felt like on a Saturday all the hunters were getting their provisions. Anyway we just bought, or rather I just bought a festive red jumper with snowflakes on it and a lovely shell necklace. It took a while to track the lads down as you cannot see over the shelves to scan the huge store so eventually we made it out of there.

The traffic always seems bad in this area on a weekend we always forget and end up getting stuck in it. We headed down to Magic Kingdom.

Magic Kingdom was beautifully decoratedl down Main Street with a huge tree and decorations stringing between the 2 sides. Well worth seeing. The first stop was the big shop as the youngest had spotted a hat he wanted in Epcot and wanted to buy one here. A santa hat with mickey mouse ears sticking out and I bought a santa hat with mickey ears plus a Minnie Mouse spotted bow on the front. We put them on and took several photos by the tree, it felt festive. The eldest was going to buy a Pirate jack hat but couldn't get it on right, then he wanted a santa hat with Stitch ears but we couldn't find one, saw quite a few people wearing them but it turned out they were not on sale any more and they were old ones people were wearing.

The park was extremely busy, all the rides had long lines and we only did Stitch, Tomorrow Transit and Carousel of Progress. We did fast pass Space but it was broken when we went back and Thunder Mountain but everyone had gone after a parade so the fast pass line looked like it was going to be long. We had gone back across between those 2 areas struggling through the crowds quite a few times so we were all feeling a bit tired.

We did stop for a drink break a couple of times and I can recommend the hot chocolate at the baseball chip shop.

The main reason we had gone in was to see the Castle and the fireworks and neither disappointed. At 6.30 we watched the Mickey show and the castle lighting to crystals and I must admit I shred a tear as it looked so beautiful and was what I had been looking forward to seeing most in this holiday. I felt so lucky to have been able to see it because it looked amazing, they also changed the colour affects several times which made the crystals look so pretty.

We struggled waiting to see the fireworks but eventually they came on and again they didn't disappoint and were out of this world. There is nothing quite as beautiful seeing the fireworks exploding over the castle plus the castle showing off it crystals. Well worth being in a busy Magic Kingdom to see it.

I was tired as I had been up since 4, we left the park at 10 and were hoping it would be easy to catch the ferry to the car park. It wasn't too bad and we managed to get on the next ferry and then we just walked to Grumpy car parking lot rather than wait for a trolley to that spot, just seemed easier. We were all relieved to sit down in the car, in the warmth as it had been a long time wandering round the park. We very much enjoyed the castle and fireworks but didn't enjoy the crowds. I have been very surprised at how busy AK, Epcot and MK have been as I thought these were the quiet weeks in the whole year for Disney through something I read in the Unofficial Guide but to us it felt the same as in July.

It didn't take long to get back to the hotel, I jumped in a hot bath to warm up and took some medicine. The sudafed nasel spray helped again, thanks to those who suggested it and snuggled down and it wasn't long till I was fast asleep.

I have now woken up at 8 when the hubbie started to run a bath and started coughing like mad. The eldest is almost back to normal, the hubbie has a bad cough, the youngest blocked nose and me the same. The youngest has just knocked at the connecting door and laughed as he saw me sitting on the bed with my Santa hat on doing this blog. He promptly went back into their room and put his hat on.

We are just taking it easy this morning and recovering from the late night yesterday. I think we are going to just go into Universal which will be quiet and enjoy FOTL for the morning.

Oh forgot to say the eldest was walking round with Grinch gloves on yesterday (The Grinch WHo Stole Christmas) which isn't that well known at home but loads of people were giving him funny looks especially the kids. I said he should get the Grinch santa hat and be different.

Its nice not having to rush about again. I think the weather is supposed to be warmer today. It is tending to be cold in morning, warm in afternoon and cold on a night which has made it a lot easier for us to get around with having bad colds. I think if it had been like in the summer we wouldn't have been able to do anything.

Hope you are all having a good Sunday and looking forward to Christmas.

Hi

We have had a lovely day, the weather was nice and warm so we were back into teeshirts.

We spent most of the day in Universal enjoying the peace and quiet of the park compared to the crowds and bustle of MK last night. We nipped back to the hotel so the youngest could change into shorts.

As we were going back into Citywalk we started talking to the security guard on the walkway he was from England so was interested in us. He was from the Wirral and had moved over here a couple of years ago, bought a house with an acre of land, swimming pool and lake at the bottom of his garden. He worked 4 days a week to pay his medical insurance and played golf the rest of the time. What a life, he was chuffed to be living here.

We went over to Islands and did all the none water rides though the lads did venture on River Adventure as it was quite warm but no way as warm as in July when we don't mind getting soaked. We also caught the Grinchmas show which was really good and had foam snow at the end which was class. We just accidentally walked in to a last performance of the day show which was ideal because during the day people were lining up quite early to get into it and also because it was getting dark the lights on the Christmas tree and set looked really pretty.

The hubbie wanted to do some shopping and who was I to disagree. We nipped to the Mall Of Millenia which is our closest Mall. I bought some more cultured pearls in blue this time, a Gap jumper, a couple of American Eagle long sleeved teeshirts plus 4 little snow globes with snowman in and our names on them, I thought these were cute.

Our legs were tired after this shopping trip and we were hungry so we headed to our nearest Chipolte. This is a Mexican Grill, counter service restaurant that you can eat inside or take away. We had burretos with chicken or beef and they were delicious as per usual and I recommend them. So if you see a Chipolte sign and are hungry stop by and try them. I had a tortilla with chicken, cheese, rice, black beans, lettuce, fresh tomatos just to give you an idea of the type of food and whether you would like it or not.

Anyway back in the room now, just chilling (red wine in hand). On tv Santa Clause 2 is on which is a class movie to watch at this time of the year.

Cya tomorrow.

Morning

I had a good sleep, woke up early so looks like we will be able to hit one of the Disney parks early. I think everyone fancies Hollywood Studios but I need to check to see if it is an EMH day or not.

Everyones health much improved though the hubbie has a smokers cough in the morning and he doesnt smoke.

Weather already 65 now at 713 am so it looks like being a warm day. Probably expose my legs this morning in shorts for the first time which will look funny because I intend to wear my santa hat as well.:rotfl:

Thanks Rachel.

We have had a lovely day, the weather was like a typical British summers day but cloudy, dressed in teeshirt and shorts. I think the temperature was in high 60s or low 70s but very pleasant.

All okay health wise just the lingering symptoms of coughs, etc but feeling tons better.

Me and the hubbie had breakfast outside this morning which was very pleasant, looking out onto the swimming pool. The Hard Rock has a big balcony outside its big lounge in reception which has chairs and tables.

We went to Hollywood Studios and had a fantastic day. It felt a lot quieter than Magic Kingdom and was very enjoyable. It was an EMH day yesterday. We managed to do Toy Story Mania twice which was excellent and I would say if you want to do this ride do it first and pick up fast passes otherwise you will end up having to line up for an hour plus for it as the fast passes run out quite early. We also did all the other rides.

I also tackled a nemesis of mind The Tower of Terror. I have not been on it since 1998, first time in 1996, both times hated it and it terrified me. Then in 2000 decided to go on rollercoasters as Islands had opened and discovered they were not as terrifying as I thought (Grand Prix at Blackpool had terrified me years ago) but still avoid ToT. Ten years later I thought if I can go on every other ride plus Dr Doom ToT cannot be that bad so I thought I would go on it and it was nothing compared to the other rides I go on. I was glad I tried it again as it is such a fun ride.

We stayed till the Osbourne Lights came on and they were fantastic and well worth seeing. I loved the snow as well. Apparently, according to my bro, the hills near my home have had 100 to 300 mm of snow but it feels different having the fun snow at Florida which I enjoyed more. I would say see the Osbourne Lights is a must, Christmas music plays which helps to make it seem all the more festive. We hope to return before we come home as we enjoyed it that much.

We popped in to our nearest Chipolte for a snack to take back to the hotel. I shared mine with my youngest which was better knowing he had some food as he didnt fancy a whole one as they are quite filling.

It is nice just chilling back at the hotel now.

Love

Bevxxx

Just woken up at 7.30, grabbed computer, quite warm already outside though very foggy, supposed to be in high 70s low 80s in the afternoon all week which is nice. The humidity levels are right down though compared to in July which is really nice as it makes it so easy to get around without getting tired.

Anyway off for a bath now, dont know what we are doing today. I love this playing it by ear holiday.

Thanks Joh and Nat. Weather beautiful now, glorious sunshine and a bit of heat to rival July weather. Just nipped back to the hotel to get changed and have a sit down by the pool for a while, may even take a dip, hope to have a cocktail or two.:rotfl:

We have been in Universal for the morning and did all the rides we wanted to. Crowds are very quiet.

We went to the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch, the meal was okay but nothing fantastic. I liked seeing all the rock stuff, they had some objects from Sum 41 which was cool. I would have liked to have seen some Green Day stuff but didnt spot any.

Anyway off to the pool now, cya later.

Well only needed one before the youngest was asking what was in that cocktail (not quite the words he used), as ice cubes were flying through the air! Eldest was not impressed.

Had a swim, lie down and a soak in the jacuzzi, now changed and ready to have a stroll to Portofino Bay which has a huge Christmas tree outside its entrance.

I want to catch the Christmas tree exploding snow out of it at the end of the Macys Parade at Universal so we are then heading back there for a while. May go shopping afterwards (with a bit of luck).

Morning

We headed back into Universal after the pool yesterday and watched the Macys Parade properly. The best place to watch it is in the road with The Mummy on. The floats are from the Macys Parade in New York and the balloons were really big. Every now and then short pieces of coloured paper are shot down from the surrounding roof tops on to the crowd below which looked really good. We very much enjoyed the parade and were glad we had taken time to watch it properly. on the first day we saw it just as it was coming out of where it is stored so none of the balloons had risen into the sky properly, where we stood last night all the balloons were towering above us.

We followed this excitement by another ride on The Mummy. Then I wanted to buy some gloves and a hat but wanted to have them sent to my room. I couldnt understand a word the woman was saying on the desk, neither could my husband, she went off to check and came back with an answer we couldnt understand so we just left it for now.

We then popped over to Islands and did The Hulk, Dr Doom and Duelling Dragons in the dark which some how made it seem a lot faster. We enjoyed seeing all the christmas decorations round Suessland.

We headed back to the hotel with the full intentions of going out to the Florida Mall or Mall of Millenia but we made the fatal mistake of sitting down. We all got engrossed in a programme showing how a man goes round buying all the stuff for the Hard Rock Cafes and Hotels which was really interesting. I faded pretty fast and even though I felt hungry I just could not be bothered to move and was soon asleep.

The best bit about going to sleep early is that you wake up at bit earlier in the morning which is what I have done now (current time 7) so I am going to get everyone up and head to Disney for opening times.

Thanks Nicky, I am glad you have enjoyed reading them, I have enjoyed living them.

Today was lovely, hot and sunny. We headed to MK first and took in the major rides we enjoy. Crowd levels were pretty minimal and we didnt resort to fast passing till we had moved to Tomorrowland for Space. Most lines were 5 minutes at 9.30 ish, Space itself was just 20 minutes which is quite low for MK. We nipped into Cosmic Rays for a snack the youngest topped this up with a smoothie from close by which he enjoyed. We very much enjoyed this early visit to MK as it was easy to get on the rides we wanted and also easy to get around. We never enjoy MK on a night because of the crowd levels but first thing it is a lovely park. Before living the park we did a spot of shopping.

My eldest niece is very much into Bambi at the moment (I lent her my Bambi video) so I wanted to buy her a Bambi toy and at long last I found one, I had been looking all week but I dont think Bambi is in the top 20 at the moment. I also bought my youngest niece a flounder toy at it had such a nice sunny face which I thought my 1 year old niece would enjoy. My eldest also bought a Mickey Mouse santa hat, I would add to create a festive feeling I have been walking round any Disney park with my Minnie Mouse santa hat on.

We nipped over to Animal Kingdom to do the Dinosaur ride as it was a request of my eldest. We fast passed it and walked round the tiger section though not a tiger was in sight as they had all apparently fled when they heard a bell ringing, I presume it was a dinner time bell. This park was a touch busier as it as an EMH day so we just did Dinosaur, picked up an Xmas yeti toy, and left the park. The park was actually more sunnier than when we visited in July, at least, at this time of the year you dont see as much rain too.

We headed over to the Florida Mall and they went in Hollister and Abercrombie and Fitch whilst I was let loose (I so love those Tracfones, means freedom from keeping together). I bought stuff from Penneys, Gap (especially for Nat and Nick), American Eagle and Old Navy and very much enjoyed myself as everything I bought was substantially reduced so I got a lot more for my money. We had some tea in the food court before leaving for Hollywood Studios.

All we wanted to do at Hollywood was view the Osbourne Lights and savour the atmosphere, see the lights dancing, feel the snow falling and listen to the festive music. We were not disappointed and spent about half an hour in this area just enjoying being a family at Christmas time in a fantastic place. I just love this place.

We eventually left for the Hard Rock, had a mini fashion show, bath, wine or two and chilled. The youngest is fast asleep, the eldest just watching tv as we are.

Cya tomorrow.

Thanks.

We have had another lovely day, me and hubbie started it with breakfast outside listening to the water fountains. Then the 4 of us headed in to Islands. We did all the non water rides first and then as it was so hot nipped back to the hotel and changed into our water ride clothes..

We mistakenly thought that because it was so warm doing Popeye would be okay, however, the water was freezing cold and I was glad to get off it. We do the water rides a lot in the summer but I wouldn t recommend them at Islands even on a hot winters day like today. We did have fun though and you did nt feel cold when you came off the ride. We followed this by Dudley Do Right which was fun, we did get wet a little bit but the water didnt seem as cold. It wasnt the getting wet bit that bothered us, it was just the water temperature. Going for the hat trick we tackled River Adventure and then returned to the hotel for dry clothes.

We thought we would walk to Portofino Bay and buy a pizza in the deli. We had done this in the summer and it was really nice but after getting there we were disappointed to discover it was shut, even though it said open 11 till 11. We did see the Portofino Bay Christmas tree in the square near the marina which looked really good. We grabbed a water taxi back to Citywalk and thought we would give Pastamores another chance.

We have tried takeaway food here on a night twice before and it took ages to come but I mistakenly thought in the day with no lines it may have been different. They ordered pizza and I ordered lasagne. After a while their pizza was ready and they said mine dish would be out in a minute, well we waited and waited, I drunk my sangria, they ate their pizza and still it didnt appear. I didnt fancy eating by myself so sent the hubbie to cancel the order and to get the money back, they did apologise but really there was no excuse as they were serving no one else and they should not offer the meals if they can not produce them. Anyway he got his money back.

We headed into Universal, I got a sandwich from the bakery near the entrance and the hubbie a cheesecake whilst the lads went off and did MiB till we arrived. We then did Jaws and the Mummy before heading over to Islands to catch The Grinch Stole Christmas Show.

We very much enjoyed watching the show again and found the 5.30 performance again to be a walk in show rather than a line up show. I loved the snow at the end again.

We did Dr Doom and again I was flung out my seat much to their amusement before walking to the Royal Pacific to view their Christmas decorations. It had two beautiful golden Christmas trees.

We picked up a Christmas starbucks drink for the eldest tasted like apple crumble from Citywalk and then in the hotel bought the son an ice cream and toppings which we took back up to the room.

The hubbie crashed out so it looks like we are in for the night now.

I wish I could bring the Hard Rock bed back home with me it is so comfortable.

We just watched films last night in the room, end of the last Harry Potter and I am Legend. I snoozed off during I am Legend though.

Today I think we are going to Epcot and I know we have to go to the Mall of Millenia to pick a hoodie up for the eldestś boss from the Abercrombie shop. She had asked if he would mind getting her one and if he knew where the Abercrombie shop was. He struggled to keep a straight face as he lives in Abercrombie clothes, his mates ask him if he is feeling okay if he isnt wearing them.

Weather supposed to be lovely again, up north they have had very heavy snow, been -40 on some days. No wonder they come down to Florida for the winter.

Anyway going to start moving now,

Just had a lovely morning down at Epcot, the weather glorious, we have been in shorts and teeshirts all day and right in to the night for most of the holiday which is class for December.

We fast passed Soarin, then did all the rides in that area most were a walk on or minimal wait which was nt bad as I think it was an EMH morning today. The eldest son was feeling a bit iffy which he thinks may have been that very sweet apple crumble flavoured coffee he had last night. He thought he was going to be sick in the night and felt weak as we walked round the Future world part of Epcot, all he wanted to do was have a rest.

We thought we would do Test Track then leave the park but it was down and I think had been for quite a while as the fast passes were for returns in the afternoon. We just went back to the hotel.

The eldest had a nap whilst we went into Universal for lunch and to do a few rides. Now back in the room whilst the eldest is getting ready then nipping to the Mall for the last time. I always feel I am on a Mall Sweep before I get the phone call to say they have finished. I know I am after some more pearls that are on offer in Macys, bought a blue set and a brown set through the holiday, $18 instead of $60 which seems a good buy. Gap have long legged slippers on offer so I may pick a pair of them up, $10, they had jumpers on offer prior to this. Everywhere seems to be having sales before Christmas.

I love it here, shame the holiday has to come to an end but feel so lucky to be able to be here.

To finish yesterday off, we nipped over to the Mall of Millenia and had another shopping trip, I bought stuff from Macys, Gap, Abercrombie. Gap have these lovely pj bottoms and teeshirt longsleeved tops that are so comfortable for lazing round after a bath in, I couldnt resist buying another set when we were there as they were on offer, $17 for the set instead of about $40 or something.

We went back to the Hard Rock and the hubbie discovered one of his teeshirts had been labelled up with the wrong size so he had to take it back. Me and the lads just headed into Universal and did some rides. The eldest was after so chips from Nathans but it had closed for the day. The hubbie caught us up and did the last ride of the day with us Shrek.

We then went back to the hotel with the intentions of going out and playing mini golf but the youngest was feeling tired so we decided to chill. The hubbie and the eldest went out to our nearest Chipolte and bought tea in with them, which was delicious. Then it was another early bed time ready for the final day today.

I have had another good sleep though someone was ringing our tracfone at midnight twice, kept saying ignore call as it wasnt anyone we knew. Last time we answered one of these calls it was someone speaking in French.

Anyway up now at 7, going to have a bath then tackle the packing. We will be checking in at Downtown Disney then coming back to the hotel for breakfast before going to Islands I think.

I got a bit stressful doing the packing as we seem to have bought quite a lot of things, we didnt bring that much with us because we knew we would be a suitcase down. So we eventually got down to Downtown Disney and checked in, getting seats right up front and 4 together. We also were informed that the flight was delayed and to ring to a number later.

We had lunch in the Earl of Sandwich which is now a favourite after trying it for the first time this holiday. I love reading other trip reports because you pick up hints.

We then went back to Universal and did Islands and Universal, at Universal we also caught the Macys Parade. When we had had our fill we went back to the car and rang Virgin to find out about our flights.

We had hit the bonus holiday as our flight was delayed until 7 pm Sunday at whole day later. I knew Virgin would look after us and we had arranged for an extra day for the car already so that was sorted but it took the hubbie a little while to get adjusted. However, I was thinking way hey another day for free in Orlando give it to me.

Anyway we were told everything would be sorted at the airport so we thought it would be a good idea to get to the airport and do that. We were given vouchers for meals and a night in a couple of rooms at the Hyatt which is the hotel in the centre of the airport. So here I am now at 22.30 sitting facing the Christmas tree with the Hyatt surrounding me, blogging to you. We have been blessed with another day at Orlando which cannot be knocked, having the car booked out already for another day has proved a God send so we can escape to Disney for the day tomorrow instead of hanging around the airport. I only do feel a bit of regret for the poor people at Manchester if they didnt make it out of the airport at the start of their holiday.

We have had a lovely meal at the Hyatt and left the lads up in their room whilst I emailed home and updated you. We will be off to bed soon as every where is shutting up.

Day 11 21st December 2008

Thanks Nat, I was chuffed flight late but initially hubbie was worried about where to leave the car at the airport and where we were going to stay but through reading trip reports I knew Virgin had used Hyatt in the past so I was confident we would be sleeping there. He is now quite chuffed to have an extra day, work is okay as he is on holiday till after over Christmas.

There have been quite a lot of flight delays yesterday and today due to bad weather up north. We were told our plane had technical difficulties. We left on the VS75 and choose a later return flight of the VS74 which only works on a Saturday and Sunday in non peak. I suspect it has had problems where it was coming from or it may be it was broken.

Anyway up early, 6 am, as the airport is up and running and we can hear the bustle (not that noisy though) so decided to get on the computer and in the bath before we go down for breakfast at 7 am.

We are planning to go to Hollywood Studios today and come home.

Had a lovely breakfast in the food court, checked out of hotel, paid for car park on exiting and found a petrol station. we headed to Hollywood Studios on another glorious hot and sunny day.

We have had a lovely time in Hollywood, catching some rides. I especially enjoyed a super bouncy ToT and Toy Story Mania. Fast passes for the later run out quick. Also caught the Indy show which we hadnt done this holiday.

We left at about 2.30 to get back in good time for the car being due back. Return went okay, boarding passes still fine (clerk said they may have to change them) and now just doing a quick catch up for you.

Through security now and settled waiting for boarding. All the other Virgin flights are down the gates boarding now, we will move down there once there is space. I think our seats are in the bulkhead so hopefully wont be as noisy as in the back. We hit a load of turbulence going back in July sitting right at the back and my wine nearly flew out of the glass, I cannot have that, so asked to sit as far to the front as possible this time. We have a row all together in row 22 or something like that.

Thanks.

Well we are back home again. The flight home was pretty uneventful and even more uninspiring food. The plane we were supposed to come home on yesterday had been hit by a baggage lorry in Barbedos.

There were not that many good films on I wanted to watch but also had just bought a good book so I wanted to read that as well but in the end watched Ghost Town. It started off funny but tailed off. After that I decided to try and get as much sleep as I could which I managed quite well thankfully.

The flight home to Manchester was only about 7 hours which was pretty good and we landed just before 9 am. It took a while for the stairs to be brought to the plane and we were at a remote docking point so had to be bused to the terminal.

Cases came through quickly, straight through Customs then had to wait a while for the bus for Premier parking. Car was ready which I was not expecting with us being late (and they didnt charge us extra). We then set off for our 2 hour journey back home.

I have managed to stay awake so far, hope I can manage to tonight which will make jet lag easy to cope with.

Best bits about the holiday:

Were seeing all the Christmas decorations and events.

Not following an itinerary.

Not having daily storms like in the summer but beautiful weather for the majority of the time. Ideal time to go.

Shopping (say no more), struggled with the car boot on return.

Discovering a close Chipolte to the Hard Rock.

Getting a bonus day from Virgin.

Only getting stressed once.

Bad bits about holiday

Crowds at MK on a night

Getting stressed packing cases on morning of planned departure.

Moaning people at airport because of flight delay and thinking people had been upgraded for free when they hadnt.

All in all we had a fantastic time and I so enjoyed the laid back attitude we adopted this time as to not following an itinerary. I dont know if we will do an itinerary in July now or just go with the flow.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about my holiday and I will post some photos up once I get them on the computer.

Bye for now.

Have been trying to catch up with some more of your report Bev. :goodvibes I am glad you were enjoying the lovely weather, we usually go in September and some of the days were surprising just as hot as it is then!

I also bought the Minnie ears santa hat. :goodvibes :santa:

Glad you were all starting to feel better.

We too were very surprised with the weather (one wet, 2 cold and the rest lovely hot days). We normally go in July because of the lads but I would be quite happy to go in December if we could as the weather was so nice and the parks not being as busy.

I don't know if you have been to the Hard Rock before but it definitely had more of a party atmosphere in July than in December. We love the Hard Rock but were surprised at how quiet it was in December. The pool was empty for the majority of the time whereas in the summer you struggle to find chairs and the pool has loads of people in.

I just love the new Toy Story Mania ride, Mr Potato Head is in the line area but to avoid lining up you must go there straightaway as the park opens, grab a fast pass, then do the ride. The fast passes run out extremely quickly.

http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x156/wicket2005/Orlando%20Xmas%20Day%205%202008/P1040887.jpg

I hated this ride, but tried it again after a 10 year absence and having gone on every ride Orlando has to offer which has descentised me to the horror and one this occasion it was fine.

This is the Christmas Shop at Hollywood Studios. I eagerly snapped up a couple of half price ornaments, went to the counter to pay and the young CM turned round and laughed. I thought this was a bit of an unusual reaction and couldn't figure out why she had laughed. It was only as I was sitting outside having my pizza I thought it's my Minnie Mouse hat that has made her laugh with me under it.

I am glad you enjoyed it. We didn't totally swap Christmas for a holiday as I did buy them a few surprise presents to open on Christmas morning and they did get spending money in Orlando to use to buy stuff they actually wanted for Christmas. Sometimes stocking fillers end up in drawers so this year they have got nothing they will not use. It was a lovely way to spend Christmas and we felt we had been celebrating Christmas since 10th December, we spent Christmas with all my family which was lovely.

It did feel a bit strange to me not having loads of presents to put out on Christmas Eve but I felt better having the surprise presents to open on the morning. They were delighted with these bonus presents.

It was a nice thing to do with our 'children' being grown ups now.:)

It will not be long till your holiday and I hope you have a fantastic time.

Seeing the castle at Magic Kingdom always brings a lump to my throat and especially seeing it with the Wishes fireworks. The latter we do not view very often as we hate the crowds on a night and actually getting out of the park (after it took us an hour and a half one year).

However, this year because of the special Christmas visit we decided to brave the crowds again. Watching the castle and fireworks brought a tear to my eye and I thought I would share it with you, just click the picture for the video. x

Michelle, the other good thing is that you have had 2 girls because they are in to the same things and always have a play mate there. My lads have always played together with the same type of toys (now Xbox 360). We love just watching them chatting to each other if they are walking ahead of us or hearing them talking on a night when we have gone to bed.

That sounds so cute. Mine too still talk as they are role playing but this is on the Xbox as they are blowing up things. Our house has sounded like World War 3 over Christmas with one of the games they have got. I can remember them chatting on to themselves when playing games when they were younger. Now I can watch my 3 year old niece talking to herself as she plays which is really cute.

On New Yearś Eve she was pretending to be a waiter when we were round at my brotherś house with the whole family having a meal. She had a little pad of paper and a pen and went round asking everyone what they wanted, however, we were told when ever we said anything we could only have breadsticks, but she took time to write down what we were saying. My eldest was expecting to see what we had said written down then he remembered she was only 3 and there was just a load of wavy lines on the pad but she took that much time you would have thought she was writing it.

Oh what a sweet story,my girls also love to do the 'cafe' role play game :cutie: .

That hotel looks lovely-who knows maybe one day we will get to stay there.
How 'cool' does your hubby+boys look :cool2: :thumbsup2 .
Great decs+it looks so empty.x.

I hope you do stay there one day, perhaps when your little girls are older and more into Universal/Islands.:) Universal and Islands were tons quieter than in July though at a weekend they were busier. Disney just seemed slightly less busy than in July, I was expecting it to be a lot quieter.

Yes,it would be better when they are older.Dd7 loves Seuss Landing(so do i) and i am sure Dd3 wil do as well(she has'nt been to Florida yet).Dd7 is looking forward to riding Spiderman this year-were hoping Dd3 can get on as well.I love Uni+IOA even though i don't go on much,Hubby on the other hand goes on everything-IOA is his fave park over all others-he is a daredevil.x.

We love Universal and Islands too. Suess Landing is lovely for little ones (we enjoy it too). I read a lot of Dr Suess books to my lads when they were younger so am familiar with some of the characters.

I hope your little 3 year old enjoys her holiday as she is just the age to believe in all the characters and has the added advantage of having an experienced parent with her to make sure she only goes on rides that are suitable for her.

Often we have seen little ones dragged on to rides whilst pleading not to go on them. This year we did see one parent take their son away before the ride but we also saw a little girl repeatedly saying she didn't want to go on the Great Movie Ride but she was taken on any way. I felt so sorry for her and she was terrified and started to cry. Her little eyes were wide open when the cowboys started fighting with guns near her and she saw the guns. It was real to her. Fortunately, the CM saw she was stressed and stopped the ride whilst someone came and walked her and her Dad out.

Thank you  .I don't force my girls to do anything+it makes me mad to see what you have witnessed myself.I saw this alot as well whenever we have been-why would parents want to scare the life out of there child-it does'nt make sense to me.
I hope Dd3 loves the characters, well she is 4 next month. We are really worried about this, last year Dora+Boots were in our local shopping centre+she screamed the place down as soon as they got near her, even though she was so excited to meet them.
We were worried about Dd7,who was only 3 1/2 when she first went to Florida, but had no problems-she went running straight to Mickey as if they were the best of friends-i have that picture on show-it's lovely.x.

Lovely story about your eldest and Mickey. Your youngest will probably see the reactions of your eldest when you go to Disney and be okay.

I hate seeing kids being dragged off on rides they don't want to go on as I remember how it is to be frightened of a ride. Up till 2000 I wouldn't go on rollercoasters due to going on the Grand National at Blackpool and nearly being flung out of the car on every bump. There was no way I wanted to go on them and my hubbie didn't drag me on so I can well imagine the terror the young ones must feel. In 2000 I decided to try rollercoasters again and surprisingly I loved them but it was my decision, now I will go on anything. Oophs I tell a white lie I won't go on that sling ball thing with 2 arms that you are catapulted into the sky on in Orlando.

Last year my hubbie and lads saw a young lad being dragged by his Dad on to the Tower of Terror ride. I felt sorry for him, I don't think anyone should be forced to do a ride. Oophs told another lie I regularly force the hubbie and the lads to take me on Its A Small World.:rotfl:

Well I just sat myself down with a coffee and read through your reports and had a good look at your piccies.
Sounds like you had a fantastic time and, after seeing some of the pics, I think I would love to give it a go sometime in December. We have already got our next 2 trips booked, and both are in October, so maybe sometime after that we will plan one for Xmas.
Thank you for taking time out of your holiday to let us know what your were up to, and for the pics showing us what we are all missing. I was beginning to wonder, as I looked through them, if we were going to get to see the famous xmas hat of yours - then there it was right near the end. :thumbsup2
Well done to your all for managing to ignore your colds and carry on regardless - it must have been tough at some points, especially for the men (*** we all know how bad man-flu is - right :rolleyes1 ) so good on you all.
