Beautiful pictures of Greece. I would never want to come home!

You'll be quite busy before Disney. It'll help the time pass :thumbsup2

What a wonderful way to end your time in Greece! It looks like it was a great trip and thank you for sharing it all with us.

Looks like you have a very busy next few months. Have fun and don't forget to keep us up to date on your plans.

BTW not to get off topic but DH agreed to go to Disney in Oct when he is home visiting!!! We will be there Oct 8-14th. Almost the same exact dates as our Disneymoon last year, just 1 day shorter and we are staying at WL. I have now started obsessive Disney planning and already have our ADR's booked. But they may be adjusted as I study things more I just wanted to make sure we could get in to the places we wanted most. Ok enough hijacking of your pre-trippie....thanks again for sharing Greece with us! Talk to you soon!

Oh 1 more question...what are the ages of the kids you do PT on?

I will definitely keep you all up to date on my plans!

Yay for your Disney trip!!! :yay: It's great that it's almost the same dates as your Disneymoon! Where's your pre-trip?

I work with kids from birth to 18 years old. However, right now my youngest is one year old and my oldest is 13 years old.

It looks like you had a great time in Greece.

Isn't great to have family that are not only that, family, but also your best friends. I have 2-3 cousins that I'm really close to. Wendy is like my younger sister.......

Chicago.....:cloud9: Although it'll be warm and muggy for sure.

Greece was the best.

The family thing is why DH and I will move back to the midwest. I grew up very near most of my aunts, uncles, and cousins, which made for a great childhood. And I want my kids to have that same chance.

I can handle warm and muggy. It's been HOT and muggy here lately. Monsoon season...:scared1:

Next trip: WDW? Or do you have something scheduled before that?

You know this girl can't sit still! No telling how many mini-trips she'll take between now and November!

Swans - Next time you come to Nashville, just round up all those country music stars you find and hike over to Centennial Park to see our Parthenon, too. We've done some school trips there. That huge (42 ft. high) Athena is something the kids always are in awe of!

Now, keep in mind that when you walk outside, the view won't be quite what you had in Greece.

And if you do come this way, we'll also call in all the Mid-Tn and nearby Disers for a big old-fashioned country potluck supper, too. That would be fun! Everybody can bring their favorite dish (lots of it), and we can just park ourselves in the lounge chairs and talk the day away!

I don't think it's crazy at all that you are sad that my mini TR is over. I get like that any time a TR ends!

Thanks for letting me relive it with you!

Let me know how Batman is. I want to see it, but not this weekend. I think it's gonna be crazy busy this weekend!

Batman was really good! Heath Ledger was amazing in it! It was pretty sad when he was on the screen for the first few minutes, but I was able to get past that. Christian Bale is my favorite actor and he did not disappoint. There were aspects of the movie that I thought could be better, but overall I definitely recommend it!

Let me know about Mama Mia!

Guess who's going to be a lot closer to Disney World a lot sooner than she thought?

If you guessed it's me, you're right!

DH and I have been talking a lot lately about our timeline for moving back to the midwest. Originally, our plan was to move back in November of 2009.

However, after many hours of talking, we have agreed to move back earlier. Spring of '09, baby!!!

This all depends on DH getting the right job offer with a company that will relocate us on their dime. So, if you're the praying kind, please say a few for DH and me!

Phoenix has been awesome and I think it was a perfect way to start our marriage. It was just the two of us, starting a new life together. We have had many great experiences and made many true friends out here. But now that we're almost ready to start a family, it's time to move back.

I am SO excited! I miss my family and lifelong friends SOOO much. I miss spring and I miss fall. I miss snow (sometimes) and I miss downtown Chicago. I miss Chicago accents and cultural diversity. I miss it all!!! But not for long!

And you know what? Flights are MUCH cheaper from Chicago to Orlando. And much shorter also. I see much more ::MickeyMo in our future!

Congratulations, and best wishes for all of this to play out just as you want it to!

I am the praying kind, so I will certainly pray for God to open all the right doors for you as you make the steps toward your move. Family is so important, and friends are, too. I know you'll keep the tried and true friendships you've made in Arizona, as well as having your family and lifelong friends to surround you and help you as you raise your children.

I know what you mean about the seasons. When I lived in Florida, we didn't have much in the way of a spring, winter, or fall. Here in Tennessee, we have four distinct seasons, and I do enjoy that. We have just a touch of snow, but not enough to hate it from having to dig out from it all the time like so many northerners do.

It must feel exciting and maybe a little scary to think about moving, but I hope in the end you will decide it was the best thing for all of you. I'm sure your family will be glad to have you closer. Jill and Brooklynn are about two hours away from me. I'd love it if they were even closer than that, but that's where John has his good job, so it is what it is. I would love to see Brooklynn more often, of course. Every time I'm down there, Jill points out houses that are for sale, but I have my job here that seems a good fit for me right now, so I guess we'll just keep things as they are for now. I'm hoping Trent and Kristi will live a little closer when they get married. Drew will be my world traveler. I see him going many places. He knows people from all over the U.S. He has a friend who is actually going to the Olympics in some kind of bike racing, and he's been riding with him and getting the fever to travel. He is thinking of joining the National Guard, too. Who knows with him. He's not much on sitting down for long. His kids will be the ones I'll get a lot of postcards from!

Cheaper flights to Disney World? That seals the deal, right there!:)

Keep us posted on your plans, and we'll follow you along the way!

Wow, that's big news! What made you guys choose Phoenix anyways? I've only been to Chicago once when I was a teen but liked it. What does your dh do for work, can he be transfered within his company or does he need to find somewhere new? Will you work through an agency or an office? I think it's great that you do home visits for kids now. Bella's best friend has a 4 year old sister with Down's and they have someone come and do therapy with her. She has a huge crush on Cooper and he adores her. Congrats!

We chose Phoenix because my DH was offered a transfer to Phoenix (he's an engineer). His company first offered him a transfer to NYC, but we wanted to try a different climate, so Phoenix it was. DH now works at a different company and they don't have a Chicago office (well, they do, but not an electrical department), so he won't be able to transfer within the company. The company he used to work for would love to have him back and would move us back in a second, but he's not sure he wants to go back with them.

As for me and my job situation, if we move back to the same area we used to live in the burbs of Chicago, I can go right back to my first job! The first job I had right out of college was a place where i volunteered as a high school student. It is where I decided I would be a PT. And I was thrilled when I got a job there. The owner of that clinic has told me that I will always have a job there, no matter what. :goodvibes But that means going back to working with adults. I'll miss my kiddos, but I like adults too!

Congratulations hon! I will definitely say some prayers for you that everything works out! And closer to the mouse is always good.;)

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!

I've never been to Chicago. DH has been and wants us all to go one day. Do you have a Chicago accent?

Thank you!

I am so excited to think that my children will be close (both in proximity and relationship) to my parents. DH's mom and dad live in Washington and California, respectively, so our kids won't see them as much, which makes me a little bit sad. My mom has already said she will be my daycare provider if and when I return to work after having kids!

You should definitely go to Chicago. There is SO much to do there.

I have a mix of a Chicago and Wisconsin accent. I picked up some of the Wisconsin accent during my 6 years of college/grad school in Milwaukee. Everyone in Phoenix can tell I'm not from the Western states!

Hurray for a sooner move!!! Being around family is one of the reasons, we will probably never move.

How long have you been in Phoenix?

Moving was a great experience, but I'm so happy it is only temporary!

We've been in Phoenix 2.5 years so far. We moved here 6 weeks after we got married. That was a crazy transition time for us. Getting married, living together for the first time, moving across the country, and starting new jobs all at the same time. I credit the move with making our relationship a very strong one. Having only each other to rely on at the beginning made us very close very quickly! And fights could never last very long because we didn't know anyone else to talk to around here!

I'm so excited for you!!!! Being close to your family will especially be important when you start a family of your own. Your kids need to be around their grandparents, who will spoil them! I will keep you and your DH in my prayers.

I've never been to Chicago. When's the best time of year to visit?

Thank you!

I agree that kids should be around their grandparents. Too bad my kids won't have an Aunt Jen to spoil them rotten!

I think the best time to visit Chicago is early summer or late September. It's so beautiful in the summer and fall is amazing!

I need some advice.

I talked to my mom tonight and she was asking me about the dining plan (which we have not chosen to do). After discussing this for a while, we were both left wondering "Should we do it?"

My question is this: Is it worth it to pay for the dining plan? :confused3

I simply can not decide.

How many table services do you have scheduled?

We do it simply for convenience -- from what I have read if you typically do a lot of CS or buffets, you do not break even.

We only have 2 TS scheduled.

We typically do almost all CS for time and money saving reasons.

But the dining plan sounds like a good excuse to do more TS meals.

I don't know, though, if I would like to be tied down to ADRs.

I'm confused!

I think it is. A couple of your meals and one of your snacks per day will be prepaid. Plus it gives you an excuse to try some great ts restaurants.

Well, it would be one TS a day, and you already have two planned, so how many other days do you have?

Then, of course you get a snack credit and a CS for each day. It is nice to not have to worry about what you are ordering and just hand over your KTTW card.

We truly adore the dining plan.

It does not include your tips though.

I guess we would need to make 4 more TS ADRs. It would probably take me till November to decide where we (I) want to eat!

If only I knew how to make a spreadsheet, I would whip one up to show him the benefits of the dining plan. (Engineers (especially my engineer) love spreadsheets!)

I just got a nice raise at work today, so that should help!

Disney details -- they just stick in my head! Actually, I remembered that you made a CP reservation because you couldn't get LTT, and Boma -- well, you know how I feel about Boma! :goodvibes

Teppan Edo is a great place to eat and LOTS of fun! Like the whole atmosphere was so great -- I could totally see you getting into it!

Is the Teppan Edo recommendation foreshadowing what's the come in your tr? Hmmm....

Teppan Edo sounds awesome. I love love love Japanese restaurants. Is it just one credit?

You have a great memory!

That would be perfect. It is a lot of food. We did deluxe dining in January and I was full after the appetizer. I really didn't touch my food or dessert.

That's one thing that is holding me back from really jumping on the dining plan. There is NO WAY we can eat all that food.

But it would be so much fun to try!

Congrats on the raise!!!

Have you ever been to 1900 Park Fare? Breakfast is fantastic. It's hosted by Mary Poppins, Alice, the Mad Hatter, Tigger, and Pooh. Weird combo of characters, but the food is great.

And there's Kona!!! So many options!

You can all order different things and try a little of each, like your own private buffet.

Or you can do buffet and family style meals.

It's nice to be able to order whatever you want, even though you may not eat it all. Just save room for dessert!

Well, here's an example of your Magic Kingdom day:

Dole Whip Float: $3.99
Lunch at Columbia Harbor House: We'll pretend you are having the Anchors Aweigh Sandwich $6.69, a Coke $2.09, and they include dessert so you are going to get the apple crisp, $3.59
Dinner at Crystal Palace: $28.99
Tax of 7% on all your food for the day: $3.17
Total: $48.52

Dining Plan Per Day: $38.99 or $37.99 so it's already a deal. Plus on days that you do a regular sit down instead of a buffet, the savings would be even more sustantial.

Is the Teppan Edo recommendation foreshadowing what's the come in your tr? Hmmm....

I talked to DH about the dining plan and he told me to decide. So I'm going to ask my mom if she and my dad want to do it. If they do, then we'll do it. If not, we won't do it. I think that if DH and I were the only ones on the plan, we'd either be splitting off from the rest of the group a lot or we'd be dragging them with us to TS restaurants a lot. So I'll feel better if there are 4 of us.

Let's start with the ugly.

I dropped my cell phone in the toilet today. My phone is only 2 months old. My phone was purchased as a replacement for my old phone, which I also dropped in a toilet. (it's okay, you can laugh.) As I stood up from the toilet, my phone fell out of my pocket into the toilet. I was wearing the same shorts both times. I guess these shorts do not have appropriate pockets for cell phone holding.

When I got the new phone, I told myself that I would not carry it in my pocket because I did not want it to meet the same fate as my old phone. However, the new phone had a super cool pedometer feature and needed to be in my pocket to record my steps. Therefore, I carried it in my pocket. And dropped it in the toilet.

Now for the good.

I have a 4 year old phone which will accept my SIM card. So I do have a phone to use. But 4 years in cell phone years is like 320 human years. So that phone is kind of a dinosaur. But at least I have a phone.

And now, the bad.

My mom said she and my dad do not wish to do the dining plan. So I've decided that DH and I will not do it either. I will, however, make a couple more TS reservations for us with the option of canceling if we so choose. To be perfectly honest, I am a little bit relieved to not have to stick to a dining schedule throughout the trip. But I started to get so excited last night about the thought of all that delicious food. So I guess I have mixed feelings about this.

On a happy note, DH and I had our trees and bushes and shrubs professionally trimmed today and our yard looks AWESOME!!! :yay:

okay, so I'm just trying to cheer myself up by focusing on the yard. I gotta try to think of something positive today!

Just wondering, because I didn't know that one had a pedometer feature. I'm currently using an old cellphone (not bag phone old). My current phone has a camera, but only MIDI type ringtones. That doesn't make sense to me!

I am like you with the dining plan. I love the thought of all the yummy food - especially after reading the food porn threads. But I don't think we would want to be tied to being at a restaurant at a particular time. Sorry about the dining plan but it's really not that bad. In all reality you'll be saving money by not going with the plan and you won't be tied down. I've heard you get so much food with the dining plan that you wind up spending a good three hours a day in restaurants between the sit-down and counter service meals. Now you can still make ADRs and eat wherever you want and whenever you want with the ability to cancel at the last minute if you don't feel like going without risking wasting your credits or losing your money... and this is all while having more money to spend on souvenirs and more time to spend on the rides. The grossest part is that one of the toilets was at a patient's house. Ick!

The phone with the pedometer is a Sony Ericsson w580i. The pedometer tracks your steps from day to day, week to week and also calculates calorie expenditure. It also has an mp3 player and comes with earbuds and a usb cable and everything so you can use it as your mp3 player while counting your steps. Such a cool phone...:sad1:

You have a great memory, Amy! I did miss/cancel most of the ADRs on my last trip because we didn't feel like dedicating the time to eating. That in itself is a great reason not to do the dining plan.

Awww I'm so sorry to hear about your phone. That stinks. But at least you have a one to use :thumbsup2

4 years in cell phone years is 320 human years :lmao:

And sorry about the dining plan. Maybe when you take a trip to WDW with just your DH you can try the dining plan. This will give you an excuse to plan another trip.

Take pics of your yard!!!

I was thinking pretty much the same stuff, so I'll just say ditto - especially on showing us pictures of your pretty yard!

Guess what!!!!!!

I just put the battery and SIM card into my drowned phone and it turned on and worked!!!!

The screen looks a little funny, but everything I've tried appears to be working properly. I'm so excited! I'm going to let it dry out for one more day and then go back to using it for good tomorrow!

I am so happy! :yay:

Of course, then there'll be new phones with new features, like teleportation.

My favorite is Boma but you are already eating there. If price doesn't really matter DH and I love Jiko and will be eating there again in Oct. I also really like Le Cellier and Kona Cafe was yummy. Oh and so was Grand Floridian Cafe. Those are now our must do's on upcoming trips. I have GF Cafe twice and both times the food and service was excellent and so was the dessert!

I actually have never eaten a TS at DHS; none of the menus or ambiance appeals to me or DH.

Hey everyone! Life got really busy for me for a while there. We had a house full of visitors last weekend (mother in law, DH's grandparents, and brother in law). Then work has been crazy this week. And this weekend, I'm going "home" to Chicago to see my family, see my friend's new baby, and help my cousin shop for a wedding gown.

Included in the weekend plans is a Disney meeting in which we will make decisions on ADRs. Thank you for all of your suggestions...I will ask my family about all those places.

I'm so interested in Brown Derby, but it's so expensive. Everyone who has written about it has loved it, so it must be good!

Brown Derby sounded so good in your TR...

That's one of the ADRs we had scheduled on our last trip. We ended up canceling, though, because we didn't want to use up our time in a restaurant. So non-commital!

Hi everyone!

I'm here! I had a wonderful weekend in Chicago. I shopped for wedding gowns with my cousin, I saw my friend's brand new baby, and I got to see tons of my friends and family. It was perfect.

I returned Sunday night and I've had a busy week which has left me very little time for the DIS. :sad2:

Hopefully, I'll get back to my regularly scheduled DISing this weekend.

For now, though, here's a pic of my new hair!

Before you look at the pic, keep in mind that it was humid and we had been outside playing beanbags, so my hair style was messed up. The color is what I want to be on display here! Oh, and I was laughing when the pic was taken. I'm sorry that I had to crop out the beautiful baby!

Okay, here's the pic

New subscriber alert! I found your report this morning and have read ALL 59 pages over the course of my morning at work. I have been doing a REALLY boring job and it hasn't been half as bad as I've been able to sneakily read your report every 5mins or so!

Your plans sound amazing - if it helps, I have these dining tips...

CS restaurant in MK - def. recommend Pecos Bills or Columbia Harbour House. I had THE most delicious pulled pork sandwich at Pecos Bills and the Fixins Bar is cool too! We did the 'Keys to the Kingdom' tour one morning and lunch at CHH was included - it was so tasty. I'm English, and yes, I do love fish and chips - believe me, these were yummy!!!

TS restaurants - we did Sci Fi at HS, the food was ok, not bad at all, just ok, but with the atmosphere, it was very worthwhile.
We also did Le Cellier at Epcot, one of the best meals of our trip!!! We ate at Jiko too as we stayed at the AKL - again one of the best meals of the trip.

My hubby sounds like yours - he likes Disney holidays but isn't fanatical about them. He's happy to go, but wouldn't go as often as I would (if I could!). He also thinks it just costs way too much to go (especially as we live in England). He seems to think there is more to Orlando and Florida than Disney - he's crazy I know!!!

Anyway, I can't wait to read more!

Oh, the typical stuff. The zoo is great. :goodvibes Also went to Sea World, but if it came between one or the other, I'd definitely go with the zoo. :thumbsup2 We also did one of those bus tours, where you can get off at stops and wander around then get on again and continue the tour. It was a good way to get an overview of the city, though the day we did it, it was raining so we didn't actually get off the bus that much.

There was also a long search on foot (didn't rent a car) for a Whole Foods, but I don't recommend that.

Congrats on the 50s PTC ADR. I'm sure your family won't mind if you & DH want to have a meal alone together. :goodvibes

ABA is very interesting to me. I'm definitely going to try to take more courses in it. So many parents say things just like what you said about Alex, which is incredible.

:yay: I'm looking forward to hearing about Prime Time. It does sound like a lot of fun--I'm sure you and the whole family will enjoy it! And I don't think they'd mind if you and DH had a couple of meals alone together. It's usually best to split up for a bit on family trips. :goodvibes

The Zoo is on the list for sure. I haven't been there yet.

I have a small aversion to Sea World as i got lost in Sea World as a child.

My mom and I did that trolley tour a few years ago and it was great. Maybe DH and I will do that. He hasn't done that before.

I've been to Prime Time before, but I can not remember what I ate. I guess that means it wasn't bad, but maybe it wasn't good either? I guess we'll find out!

I think I'm going to make some ADRs for DH and me. You're absolutely right. We will need several breaks from the family!

Do you mean you will go to Teppan Edo instead of San Angel? Teppan Edo sounds SOOO good!

Man I messed up my grammar initially...I did mean to cancel San Angel and go to Teppan Edo instead. I just got off the phone with DFri and she is going to look at the menu tonight and call me. We both love going for sushi (I know it will be extra) and love hibachi so I think it is a good switch. Nothing is worse than BAD Mexican food.

Congrats on the Sci Fi ADR it actually looks pretty neat there. Let us know what you and DH decide on!

My DH has never been to 50s PTC and he definitely won't love getting picked on, but he'll be a good sport. I think my SIL will think it's hilarious.

Teppan Edo sounds so good. That might be one that DH and I do on our own. I have heard VERY mixed reviews on San Angel. I don't get it...some people love it and some people say it's not even as good as Taco Bell. :confused3

I need you all to send some pixie dust in the direction of Chicago tomorrow and Thursday. DH is being flown out to Chicago tomorrow for an interview. We're pretty sure that he'll be offered the job. If they do offer DH the job and it's a high salary and they'll pay our moving expenses, we might be moving back to Chicago as early as January!!!

I started my trip shopping!

I actually started a while ago, but I bought two new things this weekend, so it's time to post pics!

Here's a Tink t-shirt I purchased about a month ago:

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/P8130207.jpg

And a hoodie:
Front
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/P8130214.jpg

Back
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/P8130215.jpg

And some flip flops (with a side of dog feet):
These are my favorite style of flip flops ever. Teva Mush is what they're called. They are SO comfortable. I could live in these.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/P8130204.jpg

And some more flip flops:
I'm sorry about the visible foot prints in the flip flops. That's not so pretty!
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/P8130212.jpg

I've worn each pair of flip flops several times to break them in some. I will now put them away so I don't wear them out before the trip! I wear flip flops for work every day and I wear them out so quickly. So I must resist.

I've worn the Tink shirt a couple times too, but that needs to be put away also. I still want it to seem new when the trip rolls around!

And I love the hoodie!!! It's so comfy! I won't even try to resist wearing that. Not that i'll need it in this inferno we call Phoenix!

I'm sure there will be MANY more shopping pics to come!

Thanks for the prayers and good vibes. I am not-so-patiently waiting for a call from DH right now because the interview should be ending at this time.

Footwear is my biggest apparel concern at Disney world. With all the walking and sometimes running (I'm a bad rope drop participant who runs when she's not supposed to), I need to have comfortable shoes!!! I will bring a pair of crocs (even though I hate the way they look) and my flip flops. The crocs were awesome on my last trip. My feet never hurt once. But they have a way of ruining every outfit I wear!

Those adaras are super cute! I say go for it!

I wanted to ask you about the Teva Mush flip flops. You said they're comfortable, and I'm curious. Does the fabric strap leave an indentation on your foot by the end of the day? I own some Kenas, and the mush footbed is awesome, but I totally have little demarcation lines on my feet!:lmao:

I'm sorry that they were all out of the hoodie. It's so comfy. I mean, it's really not THAT great. ;)

The Teva Mush are PERFECT because the strap is so wide. I never have that imprint on my foot at the end of the day. I think because the strap is so wide, it doesn't leave those imprints on your feet. I have the Kenas too and they needed some breaking in. But these don't really even need a day of breaking in. (except for those of us who can't wait till their trips to wear them :lmao: )

I've been quite happy with my Canon Powershot, which I've had since summer of 2005. You can now get one with 7.1 megapixels, I think, for about what I spent on mine, which has 5.9 (I think).

This would be the equivalent of mine:

DH and I have been waiting not so patiently to hear from the company with whom he interviewed last week.

Well, we (he) heard something today!

DH received an email that said the interview went really well and that he will be receiving an offer very soon.

So the good new is that there will definitely be an offer.

The bad news is that we STILL don't know what the offer is!!!

I am such a patient person in some regards, but not when it comes to this! I wanna know when we're moving back to Chicago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on the offer! It must be so exciting having the option to move back home so soon. Good luck!

When it cmes to cameras, I just got the Canon Powershot SD1100 and love it! It was on sale for around $250 at Circuit City and it works great. I first bought the Olympus Stylus 1010 since we've always had Olympus cameras and they were amazing. Big mistake. Despite good reviews the camera was horrible - every sngle picture was either dark, grainy or blurry, and everyone looked sickly in them. I tried to exchange it but was then told about Circuit City's 15% restocking fee, which they somehow forgot to mention when I bought the camera. I'd have to either get a camera more expensive than the original or pay $40 just to return it. That made me mad but the Canon was only $20 more so I got that one... plus the girl didn't know what she was doing and wound up giving me money back :lmao: So before you buy at Circuit City or Best Buy, make sure you get exactly what you want because that restocking fee really racks up the charges. Either way, I'm serious about my picture taking () and I love my new Canon!

Thanks, MeMom! I am definitely ready for a Chicago winter. DH, on the other hand, is a true wimp when it comes to cold weather. We'll just have to plan lots of trips to warm places in the winter times!

They have that camera on sale at Costco right now for 209 with a free 2 GB memory card. It got awesome reviews on consumer reports too. I'm gonna have to convince DH that it's the perfect b-day gift for me. Maybe if the offer comes through today and it's a good one, he'll be more apt to give in!

After what seemed like a super long day last Thursday, DH and I packed up the car and got on the road!

The drive to San Diego was kinda crazy. We took a short cut through an Indian reservation just south of Phoenix. It was cool to drive through the reservation. Pretty soon, the sun started to go down and we saw a beautiful sunset as we drove west. I am the worst on road trips because I drink way too much water and I have to stop a lot! So we stopped at a desolate rest area in the middle of the desert and visions of every horror movie I have ever seen started running though my head. Needless to say, I made it a quick rest stop and jumped back in the car. Our next stop was in Yuma to fill up on gas before gas prices jumped up in Cali. After about 5 hours of driving, we arrived at Holiday Inn Express in downtown San Diego. We were both pretty tired as it was just past midnight so we went straight to bed. But then we got sucked into the Olympics and stayed up too late!

Friday morning, we woke up and ate a delicious (free) breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express. We saw a guy get kicked out because he wasn't actually staying at the hotel. I felt bad for the girls who had to kick him out!

Then it was time for the San Diego Zoo!
It was about a 5 minute drive from our hotel to the zoo.
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/96538668.jpg

If you've never been to the San Diego Zoo, I highly recommend it. It's just as good as everyone says! The animal enclosures are huge, realistic, and there are lots of animals in each enclosure. Usually, I leave a zoo feeling bad for some of the animals, but I thought all the animals seemed very happy here!

Here's DH
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/80cc14ee.jpg

And a gorilla
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/846d43a8.jpg

And DH and I waiting for a wild animal show
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/18d6b375.jpg

Little did I know, this wild animal show included a hawk. I have a bird phobia and I try to avoid birds at all costs. I was talked into going to the bird show at Animal Kingdom last year and I'm glad I saw it, but I was definitely scared throughout the show. Well, the hawk at the San Diego Zoo Wild Animal show was supposed to fly from his perch in the back of the audience down the the keeper's glove on the stage. Well, that hawk would not move from his perch. Apparently, the keeper had seen another hawk hanging around and he thought that was why the show hawk wouldn't come out. The keeper told us to all be very still so he could get the show hawks attention. So I froze right where I was, being sure not to move a muscle (aside from my respiratory muscles, of course) and braced myself for possible disaster. And a disaster it was! The hawk, instead of flying to the keeper, flew into a tree on the outskirts of the outdoor theater. Well, the keepers couldn't get that show hawk to come back. So they asked the audience to quietly leave the theater without looking up at the hawk or making too much noise. Leaving that theater was a very frightening moment for me. Crisis averted, we immediately walked to the other side of the zoo.

The pandas were adorable

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/e7119996.jpg

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/87f6bbbc.jpg

After checking out most of the animals at the zoo, it was time to move on. (I'm sorry about the lack of pics...I was so enthralled with everything there, I kept forgetting to take pics!)

We began the drive up to Carlsbad and stopped in La Jolla along the way.

This is where the seals hang out in La Jolla. There were some in the water, but you can't really see them in the pic.

DH hanging out

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/912959d2.jpg

After a stop in La Jolla, we continued on to Carlsbad. We had lunch at a burger joint and then checked into our hotel, which was a Sheraton resort. This resort was beautiful. Our only issue was that the ceilings seemed to be a little thin. We could hear EVERY footstep of our upstairs neighbors!

After getting settled at the hotel, we got some ice cream down by the beach and went to hang out on the beach, eat our ice cream, and watch the sunset. And guess who forgot her camera? Yep, me. I don't have the pics to prove it, but it was a gorgeous sunset and it was such a wonderful moment, with just DH and I sitting there together, watching and listening to the ocean, and witnessing a wonderful sunset. :cloud9:

We actually sat and walked on the beach for a couple hours, so we were hungry by the time we left. We picked up some Chinese take out and brought it back to our room. We ate yummy food, watched the Olympics, and walked around the resort. It was an awesome day.

Saturday morning, we woke up and went to breakfast at a little diner in town. On the way, we saw that some jokesters had put bubble bath or something in the fountain in town!

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/71b8371c.jpg
(Of course i have pics of that and not the sunset!)

After a yummy diner breakfast, we went back to the hotel and got ourselves ready for a day at the beach.

The beach in Carlsbad was great! It was very spread out and uncrowded. We had a small piece of beach all to ourselves! I love playing in the waves, so I spent a lot of time on the water. I also spent a lot of time reading and just watching the waves.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/8dec8295.jpg

DH and me
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/4ee0329c.jpg

We left the beach at about 2:30 p.m. and went back to the hotel. It was time to use the hotel pool!

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/f89f2038.jpg

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/67034d8e.jpg

We hung out at the pool for a couple hours and then got ready for dinner.

Dinner was at a romantic and delicious Italian restaurant in town.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/b8d975cd.jpg

Then it was time for another walk on the beach.

After returning to the hotel and watching some Olympics, we went to sleep.

Sunday morning, we woke up and it was my birthday! Yay! We walked around the resort and took some pictures.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/25154b42.jpg

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/julieswanster/1e54053f.jpg

Then we checked out of the hotel and headed to Einstein Bagels (my fave!) for breakfast.

After breakfast, we drove back home to Phoenix, picked up the dogs and then relaxed and enjoyed a Sunday evening at home.

It was a wonderful, romantic trip. Although DH and travel quite a bit, this was only the second trip since our honeymoon where it was just the two of us. We normally go on a trip with friends or family or we go to visit friends or family. Being alone on a trip like this with DH was just perfect. :cloud9:
