I noticed that the descriptions of the excursions include age reccomendations for the kids. My son will be 5 on our cruise, but I think he'd really enjoy some of the excursions for ages 6 and up (he's an excellent swimmer). Do they allow some leeway with the guidelines, and has anyone had any experience taking a slighlty younger child on a 6+ excursion?

Actually, those are not age recommendations, those are age requirements. They will not bend on the age requirements, I'm afraid. They know the ages of all kids so you can't get past them.

Enjoy your cruise! :)

We plan to book our own excursions to get around the age issue. We'll go directly to Captain Marvin's for stingray city, for example. Buzz will be 5 years, 10 months, and is a snorkeling fool!

That's a great idea-- I think I tend to forget that there is life outside of Disney!!

Last year they let us book a 3 yr old on a 5 & up age limit excursion (the trip to snorkel, Trunk Bay @ St John). But, they did tell us that he would not be allowed to snorkel. He had a great time playing in the sand and on the surf. It may depend on the excursion. Might be worth asking.
