ECV - Poly or CSR

My mom is going with my kids and myself to WDW next June. She has an ECV that she will need to use most of the time. She can walk a little before her pain sets in. Also, she cannot really do stairs. She wants to have a relaxing trip while being able to experience WDW.

Currently, we have CSR booked. I know this resort is large; however, I thought she would be ok. Now, I have been considering switching to Poly. I do realize that each has pros and cons. Any suggestions on which resort is more ECV friendly?

I have never stayed at CSR so this is only opinion on that point.
Never had any problems at Poly.

The only con that I personally would have with the Poly is the $$$$$. If that is not a problem than I would do Poly every time. If you are going to spend most of your time at MK and Epcot than it is just a monorail ride or rides away. ECV's are not that difficult to load and unload on the monorail.

From what I understand CSR has 5 seperate bus stops. That would be my biggest con. My concern there would be loading. Is there going to be enough room by the time they get to my stop or will I have to wait for them to send another bus.

Either way have a great trip.

Although the Poly has several buildings, they are all close to the Great Ceremonial House (main building). CSR is extremely spread out and many of them are a very long distance from the main building.

I am really leaning to changing to Poly. We are going in June and were able to get the 4/3 deal. With that, the Poly would cost about the same as CSR with no discount. Since I wasn't expecting a discount, I wouldn't be out extra $. In my mind anyway! ;)

Any further opinions are welcomed!

Also the Poly is on the monorail, nice views, and on the east side of the map you can see the path leading to the ferry dock and TTC. There is also a ferry from Poly to MK. They have fine restaurants there also. I would stay there over most resorts.

We stay at the Poly every time we have visited in the last 10 years. I have noticed that it is very easy for the ECV's to get about. the best thing would be to tell reservations that a ground floor room would be desired. (although the building all have elevators that would accomodate an ECV.)

The Poly does have the advantage of being on the Monorail to MK, and the TTC, where it is very easy to change to the other monorail for Epcot, or catch a bus to the AK or DHS. (you can also catch a bus at the Poly)

Ther is a very real danger, that once you stay there, you will want to go back!!

(we stayed at a couple of other resorts over the years, and always measured it with the Poly, and we finally just gave up and book the Poly every year! )

You won't be sorry. We schedule a shorter vacation, 8 or 9 days, so that we can stay there. I think that we have become so accustom to the Poly, that we know where everything is, so we don't have to feel lost trying to find something!

(plus they have a dole whip machine !! heheheheh)

And you can watch the fireworks over the Magic Kingdom from the bay, the even play the music over the speakers outside. and the music and light show barges are usually every night!

We have a child who is autistic and whilst he is mobile we do take a small wheelchair with us because he cannot walk long distances.

We too are staying at the Polynesian next April, for the 1st time, whilst we hope not to use the wheelchair around the resort it does seem suitable for people with disABILITIES.

You may want to check which building suits your needs should you desire to stay there, whilst all are in close proximity to the centre of the resort the likes of 'Samoa' longhouse is ideally located, which is why we have requested a room there.

I changed my reservation to POLY! After talking to my mom, she said she didn't care where we stayed. Yesterday, she changed her mind! Now, she wants to stay for 7 nights at the Poly followed by 3 nights at AKL. I can't wait until June!

Thanks! Maybe you can answer a question for me? How loud are the fireworks on the POLY beach? DD has a hearing loss and the fireworks hurt her ears. I am hoping that we will be able to watch the fireworks with little drama. ;)

They really are not loud, as they are North of the MK while the Poly is South of the MK. This means you hae the entire distance of the depth of MK plus the width of the Lagoon. You are at least a mile from the fireworks.

Some of the SID/SPD and Autistic/Ausperger moms like ear plugs and ear muffs to cut down noises. The ear muffs are not the cute pink fluffy ones for winter but the type that construction workers and gun shooters use. Some kids do not like those but there are some nice smaller sized ones that are in kid colours like red, powder blue, blue, pink and black. They can be found online, box stores like Wal-Mart, and hunting sites as well as hearing/otic stores.

for kids with hypersensitivity to noises the ear muffs can be a blessing. I would rather be over prepared than have the kid suffering because she is hypersensitive to fireworks. My father went hard-of-hearing because he was a journeyman machinist and now mom is selectively deaf. She can hear a pin drop in the driveway but not understand anything I say, lol.

It is 1 am or I would see if there was videos for the fireworks from the Poly.

You guys are gonna have a great time at the Poly! Like I said before, after the first time, (in 1993) we just keep wanting to go back there!!

Ear plugs would not be necessary at the Poly. Like other posters, and anyone who has stayed there will tell you that it is not very loud at all. We watch the fireworks from our balcony and have found that the light show barges with music are a little louder, but no ear protection is required.

I can say this as I have been a firearms Instructor for many years and am used to being around loud sharp noises (gunfire) and other types of explosions, (flashbangs etc.) (of course, as a pirate...Cannon fire!!! hehehehe)

Thanks! I just showed DD everyone's response on the fireworks. She is excited! She loves the fireworks, just not the noises. I always carry earplugs for her just in case.
