I have found two new iPhone Apps that I like.

The first is Backgrounds. It's free and offers 100s (if not 1000s) of backgrounds for wallpaper and such. Found a cool holiday background.

The second (and much more fun) is called Word Warp. It's currently .99 cents. It's a Scrabble / Boggle type game for one player. The rules are fairly simple, but I havent been able to put it down.

Just thought I'd share.

Thanks Kevin!
I love word games like scrabble.
:ssst: I hope my kids don't find out you can play games on my touch!

May can't come soon enough. Our Verizon contract is up then and I can finally get an iPhone!

The 1st app I'm buying is Urban Spoon. DH & I can never decide on a restaurant. In fact, I bet within the next 2 minutes, he comes downstairs and says "So, where are we going?"!

I've had Word Warp for a few weeks and I haven't been able to put it down either.

I'll download Backgrounds either tonight or tomorrow morning... thanks for the tip! :)

Also wanted to mention an App that will just amaze your friends (if they are easily amazed) - "A free level". :sail:

Yes, it turns your iPhone into a bubble level. Haven't you ever needed a level when you weren't near your toolbox? :badpc:

Kevin - You have EXCELLENT timing! I came to the boards to see if I could find a thread about apps and lo and behold, here is a new one! I am bookmarking this one and hope that many others put in their 2 cents. I got my husband an iPhone tonight and want to download some really cool apps to sync to it for when he opens it on Christmas. I went to iTunes but it is a bit overwhelming!

Good news Annette, Urban Spoon is FREE!

I find Recorder to be useful as well and it's either free or 99 cents.

It's turns your iPhone into a voice recorder. I think you can record up to an hour.

I find it useful for things like "turn dryer on when you get home" kinda stuff

I also like Ambiance. It's a "white noise" thing. I used it flying to and from Las Vegas. It drowns out the airplane noise.

Pandora is also cool. It allows you to create your own internet radio station based on a certain artist. An example....you like Bruce Sprinsteen....you enter his name and it plays music by him and other stuff that is similar. It's free too. You cant rewind and you are only allowed something like 5 skips ahead per day or something like that...but it's great if you are sick of your own usic The other cool thing is that you can jump from there to iTunes if you hear a song you really like and want to buy.

good news Urban Spoon is free! I've used that quite a bit. But it still never helps me decide. I always think the next spin will be better than the current.

right now i'm into playing ifishing lite. I never thought i'd like to play a fishing game, but it's fun. I caught a 58lb musky. A fish that big and with that many teeth would be enough reason to "Stay out of the lakes!"

I LOVE Pandora! It's definitely one of my favorite apps out there. I love being able to listen to a 'radio' station with music that I actually like instead of switching between 2 or 3, waiting for a song that I may or may not like. They also don't have Frank Sinatra'esque music on normal radio (or XM which I'm shocked at) so that's an added bonus for Pandora. ;)

I love bubble wrap.

What I usually do once a week is just look at the top 50 free apps. I can usualllt find something cool to download and the price is right!
A lot of the paid apps have a free version you can try out first. If you like it, you can either just keep the free version with less features or decide to buy it and know you will like it.
One game I like is Gaia and I just downloaded a bookshelf of books called CLASSIC that is really amazing.

You know, I was thinking of suggesting a "meet within a meet". At the TSM PodCast meet event next week, all the iPhone owners would meet and ride together.

But then I realized we would all have some pretty poor scores because we'd all be more interested in playing with our iPhones. popcorn::

Can I just say that I'm very jealous of all your iPhones! :guilty: I just bought DD a touch for Christmas, but sadly my budget (DH)(grumble grumble) would not allow for an iPhone.

I have iPhone envy...::yes::

the trick is, let DH have an iPhone, you'll have one shortly afterwards. Once you drink the koolaide, you have the need to pass it along.

Due to still having a contract with another provider that doesn't offer the iPhone... I have to suffer with the iPod Touch for now or pay some unGodly cancellation fee.

Having said that I splurged and paid 99˘ each for interactive maps for MK, HS and EP. There wasn't one available for AK, yet. I, of course, had never heard of these apps before they were mentioned on the podcast.

from the article below:
"Now that there are some 10,000 applications available at the App Store, it makes it much harder for new apps to be discovered, some developers say."

http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1863961,00.html?imw=Y

I read this and thought, "WOW! 10k apps!!!" No wonder it seems so overwhelming when I was trying to figure out which ones were the best.

Thanks in advance to everyone who is giving advise on their fav apps!

Me new favorite app has been the amazon app. I've been using it Xmas shopping as I can check the price online while in the stores and read reviews about the items in question... I have actually come home and ordered 2 gifts based on the prices I found on Amazon.

I like the Yahtzee app.
It was $4.99, but so worth it, we were out to dinner on Friday and when my kids were restless-I gave them my iPhone, they played Yahtzee together and were quiet as could be.:thumbsup2
I also love my Facebook app and Shazam is pretty cool.

Oh also to keep the kids(okay, and me) entertained, we have Carrie's Dots and Trace is fantastic(and free!).
My son lives the lightsaber one.

ETA Just d/l Word warp. Love it!

I am one of those losers who doesn't have an iPhone, but my favorite app I've heard of is the "I'm Rich" app. I think it was on a year ago, and went off immediately. It was basically an icon you could have displayed on your iPhone after paying about $1,000 for it. As if havingan iPhone isn't enough of a "look at me" effort (no offense to those of you who do have a iPhone). Not surprisingly, they took it off after a few people buying it by accident.

I love my iPhone! Here are a few apps I've downloaded in the past couple months.

CameraBag - Processes your photos so they look like you shot them on a Holga, Lomo, or lots of other types of cameras.

Tangram Pro - An addictive little puzzle game.

Ocarina - Turn your iPhone into a musical instrument. Don't believe me? Here are some silly people playing Stairway to Heaven (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfrONZjakRY).

Stanza - Well designed ereader app. Very clear text and nice interface.

There are lots of familiar websites that have iphone apps, that are just as useful or better on the iPhone.

Open Table - Same service as you'd find on the web, but location aware. Find reservations near your location or any city you choose. You can even book raglan road without having to talk to a human.

Amazon - Has all of the standard Amazon tools in an iPhone-friendly interface. The "Amazon Remembers" feature is very cool. Snap a photo of just about anything Amazon sells (DVDs, books, coffee filters, whatever) and Amazon's server will recognize what it is and let you order it or saves it for you to remember to order later. There's another app called Snaptell that also offers this image recognition feature.

Joost - Stream movies and TV shows to your phone over a wifi connection. There's something very surreal about watching the Facts of Life on demand on your phone.

Kevin have you tried White Noise, or Easy Relax both great relaxation apps.

I love the games Space Monkey, and rinoball. It's the hamster from bolt in his ball rolling to Bolt.

If anyone has a Clear channel station they love you can get it on iheartradio. Google Earth is fun too.

Well, since posting the other day, I found out it's just that our "new every 2" thing is up in May - our contract doesn't actually expire until Sept. :guilty:

However, DH just called Verizon about something else and they said our early termination fee would only be $100 (something about them having to prorate them now?). I can live w/ $100! Need to see if DH can ;)

If it helps you convince DH let him know I drive from Varina to Short Pump everyday and have never lost my signal. Also works really well in Chesterfield. AT&T has Richmond "wired" . :cool1: :cool1:
