i've had to change my cruise to the following week....

and i hope you all post lots and lots and lots and lots of live trip report pictures during the cruise, so that I (and other unfortunates like me) will be able to vicariously cruise along with you ...:goodvibes

If you rent a car and drive to the Cape Canaveral, the rental shops have transport shuttles to the dock. Do they also have shuttles waiting for after we disembark?

It will last until we run out of rooms. For your post cruise stay you have more time than if you want a precruise stay.

Thank you. As you know, the pre-cruise stay is booked. Now I am seeing if a post cruise stay is in the budget.

I've rented a car for post-cruise use and I called Hertz for the exact 411. The Hertz rep at Cape Canaveral told me they have shuttles running past the port buildings every 15 minutes. I'm sure if Hertz is doing it, so are other rental agencies. I will admit that I do have my car reserved already.

I definitely believed your answer Tracy, but I'm not sure I asked you that exact question about the rental agency shuttles and their time schedules?? As long as I had the rep on the phone I asked her point blank.

I want to make this perfectly clear, I'm Very Blonde and sometimes I need to be told more than once. :guilty:

Just giving you a hard time. I have no clue what their time schedules are, I just know that outside of the terminal there are designated drop off/pick up locations for each agency. I stand there and they come. It works :)

Oh good question! I was actually wondering the same thing...

Seems like a lot of people (including me ;) ) are trying to work out how to get from WDW to port in an affordable manner...:confused3

I know what the options are but is there any chance the DU owners (ahem :goodvibes ) might consider having someone coordinate a bus service from Dolphin to Port return? :thumbsup2

I'm not talking subsidized transportation but if given your contacts/network, a group bus could be booked for say $40 return/person, it would sure help out. The Disney charge of $70 is pretty steep, esp in this economy. :scared:

The bus option would also be a lot greener than everyone driving down themselves; would cut down on traffic congestion, pollution, driving up rental car rates, etc. :crowded:

Obviously some would prefer to arrange their own transport but with 300+ cruisers, there's prolly a fair number that would really appreciate this option, especially since a fair number of us are 1st time/1st DCL cruisers. Those not staying at WDW but not the Dolphin could just cab to the Dolphin that morning.

Just thought I'd put it out there...if any of the Podcast Team is in chat this wk, I might ring this bell again since they'd be insane to try to follow the podcast cruise threads :rotfl:

cheers,
:flower3:

I think transfers would be a great idea...except won't most of the people staying at the Dolphin need to rent a car anyway to get from the airport to the hotel? If so, does the Dolphin charge for parking as part of the "resort fee", if not and it's a separate charge...why not just pay for parking at the cruise terminal instead? What am I missing here?

Parking is a separate charge at the hotel and port. I'm renting a car, but I'm not parking it at the port. I'm not paying for $15 per day parking plus the car rental for 4 days that I'm not using it.

I'm still debating whether or not to do 1-way rentals...it's going to be such a quick trip for us that I don't want to waste any extra time at car rental counters than I have to...besides, sometimes you can catch some pretty good deals on a weekly rental.

We are doing a 1 day rental picking up at MCO on Sat, dropping off on Sunday for $40. We'll then pick up a car on Thurs and drop it at MCO on Sunday. For us I think that would be the easiest, least expensive route. :goodvibes

Although not necessarily the most environmental of options, I am probably going to choose this as well. It will also allow for us to make any necessary :drinking1 stops.

okay, i'm gonna get flamed but i can take it...after waiting so long for the release of the t-shirts, I was disappointed with the design - seems like the same logo twice and I anticipated some sort of memorial to Bawb on it, like a small design on the sleeve or something. I thought the overall design of the t-shirt would be more interesting. When I saw them, I didn't feel - I GOTTA have it! Don't worry, I know it's a fundraiser for Bawb so I'll pick up 1 (or 2) before the cruise regardless...just sayin' :upsidedow

And is there going to be a huge line that I will have to wait in....might it be worth the $75(?) dollars to park at the port and not deal with the hullabaloo?

I plan to rent and park....Since the trip is so short its a small expense for the time I'll save. The vacation is already pretty expensive so a few extra bucks is worth it for such a short trip.

If memory serves I think the parking lot opens at 10am? Someone will correct me I'm sure. I was actually there 10 mins before opening and had to wait in my car. The hold some cars in the lot across the street before letting them park. Then we checked in and waiting to board in the terminal. They have TVs and couches and we needed to check our kids in etc. It was a few hours, but not too bad. If you don't want to sit around waiting then I would come later. The only thing you'll miss is getting on board early when you can't even get into your room yet. We went swimming and had to wait to get into our room till 4 (I think) again someone will come along and correct my times I'm sure.

I have a question that I figured all you DCL veterans can help me with. I am going to be flying into Orlando on Saturday May 9th and will have a rental car from Budget. I was looking at ways to get to the port and came up with 3 options.

I could return the car to Orlando Airport and take DCL transportation to the port from the airport.

I could return the car to Melbourne airport and just take a taxi to the port. It is about 30 miles.

I could return the car to the Cape Canaveral office of Budget and take the taxi to the port, it is only about 3 miles. The only reason I would even think about the second option over this one is I’m not sure how easy it will be to get a taxi at this location to the port. Of the 3 options this one is the one that makes the most sense to me.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

You might want to call the Budget Office directly in Cape Canaveral, but they should have a shuttle running from the office to the port. I know that Avis and Hertz do. It will save you time and cab fare.

I'm not a huge fan of hurrying to wait. If they don't let people start parking until 10, I am most definitely not going to show up before then. I was thinking of leaving the Dolphin around 9:30. I don't need to be the first one on the ship, I would rather enjoy my vacation than worry about getting up at dawn and rushing at breakneck speed to get to the terminal to wait for it to open to wait to board the ship. I think as long as I get there prior to the DCL transfer buses, I'll be happy.

If you need to make any Spa reservation or make adjustments to you dinning time, do it as soon as you board the ship. The CM will direct you where to go. Once on board, we typically head to lunch. I am not sure what will be available on the Wonder for lunch. I am certain the buffet will be and perhaps on of the dinning rooms (Parrot Cay?). If you are travelling with kids, either have them wear their swim suits or bring then in your carryon. It's a great time to use the pools. This is also a great time to explore the ship.

If you plan to arrive before the ship opens, be sure to bring something to read, activities for the kids and maybe even snacks! A cafe with specialty coffees, basic pastries and limited snacks opens at 11 a.m. There is a seating area with a television showing Disney clips.

Port opens at 10:00. Inner parking lot where you would drop your luggage curbside opens at 10:00. Outer parking lot where they make you wait until they let you in the inner lot opens around 9:30 or even earlier.

You can check in as soon as you arrive (if at 10:00 or later). Boarding starts anytime after 11:45 or so, so technically you can be onboard as early as about 12:00 if the ship is ready on time. There is no set time for each boarding number. As soon as one bunch of people are boarded from a boarding number then they call the next number.

Just ask on the cruise thread, they were quick :)

Before this thread gets crazy with mad posting...:rolleyes1 ... I just wanted to remind everyone that there will be an unofficial pre-cruise meet at the Poly Beach beginning an hour before Wishes. Grab a Dole Whip, or other favorite beverage and join us to say hello. We'll watch Wishes and the Water Parade and if anyone is still up for some fun, the party will be moving to Jelly Rolls at the Boardwalk.

The time will be announced after the park hours are released.

Looking forward to screaming with you and hugging hello!

Have a great time Tracy! You will be missed and you will come back to probably 100 pages.....:lmao:

so here's another cruise related question- what time are most folks planning to leave the Dolphin/Orlando for the port (if you have a car)? 10am? 9am? Is there a caravan?

I usually don't disclose this information. I have been to the port as early as 7:30 am and wait outside for the doors to open. The rental companies will drop you off that early, so will town cars. You cannot get into the building until 10:00 am. Check in doesn't begin until 10:30 am.

Budget does have a shuttle to the port. Didn't I say this before?

If you need to make any Spa reservation or make adjustments to you dinning time, do it as soon as you board the ship. The CM will direct you where to go. Once on board, we typically head to lunch. I am not sure what will be available on the Wonder for lunch. I am certain the buffet will be and perhaps on of the dinning rooms (Parrot Cay?). If you are travelling with kids, either have them wear their swim suits or bring then in your carryon. It's a great time to use the pools. This is also a great time to explore the ship.

Pools, explore, lunch, drinks, lunch... The time goes quickly and rooms are ready approximately 1 or 1:30.

Technically, boarding doesn't officially begin until 1:00 pm, however, when the ship is ready, they start boarding.

Ha, ha! We had a bit of stressful travel, but got here on time. We didn't get to bed Tuesday until 11pm (very late for me) but had to get up at 4am to get to the airport. I tried to pay for something before we left but couldn't and didn't think anything of it. When we arrived in Orlando, I went to get the car and my credit card was declined. I figured it was just the agency. Luckily I had an additional credit card with me. When we got to OKW, I tried again with the card and it was declined. I called the credit card company and they said there was a breach of security or something like that and they needed to close the account. Today we'll be getting an overnight package from Chase. What a way to start vacation, er, I mean quality control.

Word of advice - before you go away for a vacation that will take out of the country, call your credit card company and let them know, they'll put a note on your card so they don't close it down for an "unauthorized charge". Bring a second card with you to use just in case of an emergency.

I know you weren't asking me, but I'm throwing my two cents in, too. As a first timer I also have to wait until 75 days before I can try to book anything.
•Onboard-I don't think I'm even going to try to book Palo. The gang has that nice brunch set up for us, and I would like to experience the whole dining rotation and pirate night. We aren't spa people, so yeah.
•Cataway Cay-I've been looking at the jetski excursion that Regina took (the one about fish poop) and that sounds fun. Jetski alot around here (in the big lakes) and would love to do it in the ocean. Also looked at the parasailing. I hate heights, but think I would be okay with it. And imagine the pictures!!!
•Nassau-I don't gamble (very well), so no casino. Waterpark, meh. Maybe get off the boat long enough to say I was there, {Can you get a stamp on your passport?} So that sounds like a relax and enjoy the ship & fellow DISer day.

I think you can get a bahamas stamp at castaway cay...

I'm on volume 3 now, just keeping an eye on volume 2...

"I don't like begging natives." When mum went that's all she talked about besides Atlantis. Added a more precise word in previous post. Don't speak it like I used to.

Yea, I hear you there....I don't enjoy people pushing stuff at me trying to get me to buy it. If you want me to buy something I'll come look. If you harass me I PROMISE I won't buy from you even if I like what you have for sale.

On my past two trips, my Passport was never stamped for entry into the Bahamas once we arrive at CC. The closest thing you'll see to a stamp are the ones you can buy at the CC Post Office, right as you get off the ship.

Getting off in Nassau, entirely different story. Most likely, I'll be staying on board.

If memory serves, its not stamped unless you ask for it

I was just in Nassau and I don't remember seeing another remotely like customs getting on or off the ship. There is only a security officer checking to get back to the ship.

I put my Passport in the safe the day I got on and took it out the day we got off.

That makes the most sense, as to keep it safe. But I'd still like it stamped. I even want it stamped by Canada...I know I'm lame....shut up.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Honestly I didn't think the people were that bad. Everyone that I told no just went away and left us alone. I didn't think the Straw Market was too bad either. The only thing that was a little hard was we had a stroller and go stuck behind people that were not moving. We were a captive audience.

Well, I just sign up for the Podcast Cruise a couple of days ago and I am sure I will get off the ship.

We just got back from the 3 day, November 23-26. It was really fun, but cold. I figure we will try in May and see if we can swim at Castaway Cay without completely freezing.

My husband was interested when I told him about the Palo brunch not at Palo. We put our son, 4, in the club while we ate at Palo and it did not go well. He just didn't want to go in. He was fine once he got in there, but it was made our dinner less enjoyable. I figure if we can take him to Palo brunch that will be a lot more fun.

I am also very excited from stateroom gifts.

Glad you found the thread. Introduce yourself and jump on in! We may be slightly crazy at times but we are a warm and friendly bunch. A couple of us a tad bit too friendly but we'll let you figure who on your own. If you are called Kim, don't worry about. It's a term of endearment here.

I think so. I missed the meet last year, darn Le Cellier dinner reservations that I had to wake up at 6 am to get. And we went in November this year instead of December so no TSM. But I did get to ride it 3 times and it was so much fun. I am so jealous of the people that are going to get to go to that event.

I am not sure yet. We ended up not doing them on my recent cruise. I think I will have to see if we fly Southwest or get stuck with AirTran. Those extra baggage fees kill me.

What do people bring for gifts?
