Well, the best laid plans...

For the last 14 months I've been planning a week-long WDW trip for my 74yo DM who hasn't been in over 30 years. Arranged BWV (with walking/scooter access to 2 parks) at 11 months out, ADRs made at 180 mark, tours, scooter rental, airfare, MVMCP tix, etc etc etc.

Mom had a prolonged near-death ICU stay 2 years ago with overwhelming infection but had recovered amazingly and had even moved into a new home about a month ago. Monday (2 weeks prior to WDW trip) she became delirious and now is hospitalized again with widespread infection from who-knows-where.

Worry for her health is primary of course, but you people of all people can understand the disappointment of over a year's worth of planning falling apart like a house of cards. 2 years DVC points lost, DS and her DH and 2 kids lose their vacation, my and DGf's 1st time off in over a year most likely spent visiting Mom, no MF or TSM meet now after the big sign-up race and waiting list rescue from Pete's supporters, blah blah blah. You get the idea.

I don't know how/when any of us will get to WDW anytime soon. If/when Mom recovers, I may still try to get her down there but Christmas with the whole family probably will never happen now.

Sorry for the length. Just a bit of venting. I don't know about Susan (MerriePoppins), but I may not be around for a while. Not sure I want to think about Disney this week. Hoping all have a blast at TSM. :goodvibes

:( I am so sorry this happened this way. I know it hurts! I pray they find something out fast and fix it. I know it happened when they get infections and a lot of times it is a UTI... but I would think they would check that first. Sending some :wizard: :wizard: your way. Wish I could make it better for you!!

I totally understand what you mean about the plans gone awry, etc. We had a vacation planned, adrs, Cindy's breakfast, Illuminations cruise, - checked into OKW, then found out my dear MIL had passed away. We left my son and his family there but it was just so sad for us. My thoughts are certainly with you - I hope you get a diagnosis - soon...:grouphug:

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. Prayers on the way!

I know all too well just how much planning you have done because I am in a very similar situation with planning our trip. I have been praying all year long that nothing would go wrong with my MIL's health because she has CHF, COPD, Diabetes, and after we planned the trip entered the early stages of renal disease. She has been pretty good with only a couple of hospital stays this year. We knew this was our last chance to go with her still having a good enough quality of life to be able to enjoy the stay. I still haven't decided if it's safe to breathe yet.

Oh Jason,
I'm so sorry. I do hope that your DM is ok and gets better soon.
On the DVC points - we had to cancel last minute due to a medical emergency and were going to loose a heck of a lot of points. I called DVC and explained the situation to a CM who got her supervisor. The supervisor requested that I fax documentation from the hospital and then refunded all of my points. I don't know if that's their usual policy, or I just got a whole bunch of pixie dust, but it can't help to try.

Please know that you've got a lot of people on here who understand how disappointing your situation is. Hang in there.

Jason (and Susan) -- My heart just goes out to you right now. I know firsthand what kind of chaos insues when a family member suddenly becomes ill. I will be praying for your mother, as well as all your family members.

As far as the DVC points go, have you talked to any supervisors in Member Services about the situation? Have you ever used your one-time exception? Perhaps you won't have to forfeit all the points. I'll cross my fingers for you.

Please try to give us updates if you can.

Our thoughts are also with you. What a rough thing to go through at the holidays. We've been in a pre-holiday hospitalization emergency - it didn't involve cancelling a vacation, but did mean I had to move my (then 58 yr old) active mom permanently into a nursing facility 2 weeks before Christmas due to a massive stroke.

I would definitely call DVC and see what they can do for you. I bet you'll find they are willing to let you keep the points with proper documentation.

Be strong - there are a lot of things they can do to find hidden infections - and I hope she has a full recovery.

It sounds like you had arranged a magical trip, too. I know that aside from your enormous concern for Mom's health must be the disappointment of abandoning your plans.

Best wishes and prayers to mom - I hope she feels better soon and that you are able to recover at least some of your costs for the trip.
