The pools and atmosphere at the All-Stars wins hands down.
Size of room would go to Motel 6 and Super 8.
Value would go to Motel 6 or Super 8.
Service is a toss up.
Am I missing any other categories?
I will post the next debate: Moderates vs. Holiday Inn Express next week.

Location, location, location! :)
I would disagree that the service is a toss-up among those three. There's a lot to be said for Disney's customer service, even at the All-Stars!
There have been times when the All-Stars were available for $49/night. Now I call that value! :D

BUS SERVICE--All Stars Thumbs up!!
I would in fact give All Stars thumbs up on all counts. We rarely stay in value hotels off property, but are happy to stay at All Stars!!

Depends on your budget. There have been some great discounts at the All Stars, but they are not always available and even if they are, still out of the reach of some. A clean place to sleep at $35/night is a pretty good deal for families on a tight budget who'd still like to be able to come to WDW.

A few times I was at WDW around the time when the holiday rates begin. I booked All Star for the low rate days (value season) and stayed at the Rte 192 Motel 6 just west of Main Gate (World Drive) for the holiday season days. This was before I heard (still true?) that if my stay began at the low rate the rate would not go up during one continuous stay extending into the high rate season.

AS vs Motel 6:eek:
That's blasphemous!:jester:
Our CM service all the way around was GREAT at ASMo. Much better in every way than what we experienced at CSR even.
The bus service was perfect at ASMo too and VERY good at CSR.
That $49 a night rate was pretty darn good at ASMo too. :D But would I want the same room for $94 a night, as I was offered on our upcoming trip? Nope.
Two weeks from tomorrow... POR.. sigh:D
Stayed at ASMo in Jan and was pleasantly surprised. It was great for $49. The food court, themed pool with lifeguards, pool bar, hair wrapping, arcade, disney store, mickey soaps, and towel animals, etc., excellent bus service. I've never stayed at Super 8 or Motel 6. I'm sure if it was new and clean, it would be very acceptable , but I don't think it can begin to be in the same category as AS!!!

I think if you are going to compare prices there is more involved than just room prices. Will going off grounds cause you to get a rental car? Does your room come with breakfast or other meals? Do you plan on spending all day at a park or will you be heading back in the late morning for a nap? Are you going to visit the parks or are you going to envelope yourself in Disney?
We fly down and don't need a rental. We figure that the money we save on not getting a rental is thrown into the added cost of the room and we break even.

When I first started planning my trip to WDW I thought we would stay off site and rent a car. But then I did the "math" and figured it would be just as cheap to stay on site (at all stars) using the bus service.

I don't know about everyone else but just for the "security" I feel staying at the all stars as opposed to other hotels or motels off property , I will pay more money.
I have stayed at the all stars five times and although the last time was not very pleasant for a couple of things, things were handled very appropriately by Disney and I will go back again.
Now I have been attacked and robbed at another hotel off property and although I got hurt and needed medical attention, not once the hotel ever contacted me and reluctantly they released all of their insurance information to me , but they did after I insisted.

Definitely AS!!! Being on site is much more worth it for a lot of different reasons. I wouldn't even consider planning a trip if I couldn't stay on site.

Aas the parent of a teenager, I give the edge to the All Stars primarily because of the availability of WDW transportation. My son (15) likes to go off on his own occasionally (OK, a lot), and the bus allows him to get back to the room on his own. Even if he were driving age, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't let him drive alone around WDW!

We have stayed at a Super 8 and a Motel 6 in Orlando, and well, to put is nicely...never again!!! It is as bare bones as it can possibly be! If you have the opportunity, definitely go with All Stars. You will have clean rooms, with air conditioners that work, great housekeeping, well themed areas, a great food court, beautiful pools, great park transportation, and much more convenience. It is definitely worth the few extra dollars!

I like AS a lot. I am staying at CBR next month. I hope that I enjoy it more than AS (to justify the added expense).

I used to stay offsite and rent a car, or drive down and use my own car. After staying onsite it doesn't even compare. We are now fans of AS after paying much more for other Disney resorts. The time that it saves you alone seems to add so much more to your trip. The value is excellent for what you get. I'll never stay offsite again and if I have chosen AS even though it wouldn't be a hardship to stay at a moderate or even deluxe resort occasionally. We love it and it just seems silly to spend so much more for another resort when we enjoy AS so much. Have a wonderful trip.

Disney All Star Resorts win hands down. IMO, you can't beat the location of staying in Disney. I have stayed off site in years past and have said I'll never do it again. There are too many hassles when you stay off site. It's so unbelievengly convienent on site. I also feel that staying at an All Stars is worth it for the theming and overall magic and service. Of the two times that I have stayed at an All Star....I've been very pleased. The Disney Magic is defintley there and to me....that's a part of my trip :) The service has always been awesome too. So I guess what I'm saying is: I can't see comparing a Super 8 or another motel to any Disney resort......not comparable. But, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
12 days and counting!!!

All-Star Sport all the way ....
Done the off-site thing. Hated it. Never again. Ever.
Service - All-Star all the way. Percentage of Rude or Uncaring staff (high).
Transport - All Star all the way. You couldnt get a on-property site faster except drive. You can go when YOU want.
Atmosphere - People inc. Guests seem to be much more happier than off-site (We know something they dont know :D)
Convenience - Cant Charge to room key or have packages delivered to room/gift shop.
Meals - I know what Im in for at WDW ;)
Much, much more ... its just not worth the effort to continue!
