I have read that the GCV will have only about 60 DVC rooms. Is this correct? I also have read that it will sell out before it even reaches the general public? Can anyone let me know anything about GCV?

Arthur06,
I believe it is 50-2 BR units. (I assume lockoffs) I don't know what the point values are going to be for the rooms, so I'm not sure how many points there will be altogether. (Rumor is that the points stucture will be similar to BLT)
When I was DL, my guide said they were not spending any money on advertising for GCV and that they expected it to sell out with GCV founding members and DVC members. I have no idea how the current economy will influence this.
You can get founding member status for GCV if you buy a master contract at DL for AKV or BLT. DVC will give you notice 90 days in advance of the public and then you have an opportunity to buy up to 160 points within a certain time frame. Then, I assume they will open sales to other DVC members and then the public.

Make that 48-2 BR lockoffs and 2-3BR Grand villas:
Heres a link for more info (http://dvcnews.com/index.php?Itemid=162&id=299&option=com_content&task=view)
Another link hasthe points estimated: "Approximately 600,000 points at the Grand Californian will be available for sale beginning in the spring of 2009. "

hmmm 600,000 divided by 160 points = 3750.... i wonder how many founding member contracts DL has sold over the past year?

I thought I read somewhere that only 22 of the 2 bedrooms will be lockoffs, the rest dedicated. Not good news for those of us who want studios or 1 bedrooms, they will be very limited.

Wow--I was thinking a 1BR would be big enough for us. hmm. It is starting to sink in how limited the availablity will be!

Are sales to start in spring 2009? I was planning on booking GCH on points at 11 mos. in April for a March 2010 ressie. Do you think that will still be possible?

DVC has not announced when sales will begin. The villas are still scheduled to open in late 2009, so it will be sometime in the next 9 mos or so.
If DVC follows past practices, points bookings at the Grand Californian will end when the villas open. They won't even let you book dates after the projected villa opening. For 2010 the only option for the Grand Californian would be to secure one of the DVC rooms.
