I see many threads asking what is the *best* P&S. It is really a somewhat subjective question *but* DPReview has given it a shot and their ratings (for budget cameras) are here:

I hope they will do one of these for the next step up. I want a good PnS but I'm willing to spend a bit more than the range they reviewed here, like say $150-$300.

Check out the Panasonic FZ28 if you want the next step up. I own the FZ18 and it's great. The 28 is the updated model
