Is Halloween Horror Nights Gory? Too gory?

A friend of mine doesn't particularly want her teenage son (16) to be exposed to a lot of really gory /uck stuff and has asked me about Halloween Horror nights.

Can anyone describe what they feature? Is it disgusting or just spooky entertainment?

There's not really a lot of gore, it's more of jump out and "BOO" kind of thing. The only gore I found was in the clips from movies while waiting in line for the houses. And you really don't have to look at the moniters if you don't want to.

HHN 2001 was toned down considerably due to the events of 9/11. I've never been to any other HHN before this one, but I kept hearing that previous years did feature the theme park equivalents of a significant amount of blood and gore. Can anyone verify? Thanks!
