Cast List
Me: No introduction required, I suspect most of you know me by now!
DW: Long suffering DW of the above
Alex: 15 - Coaster and Disney freak
Laura: 13 - Style queen
We were abruptly woken this morning at 8.30am by an insistent knocking at the door
We tried to ignore it but eventually I pushed Alison out of bed to go an answer the door! Would you believe it was someone offering a complimentary comb - despite there being a do not disturb sign on the bloody door! They could have slipped it under the door for goodness’ sake!
What’s this? – National hack off the tourist day? :scared1:
Laura couldn’t sleep on the rollaway bed as it was so uncomfortable (and she can usually sleep anywhere!) so she moved in with Alex during the night.
I apparently snored a bit and kept everyone else awake but hey ho, it wasn’t booze induced! So we could all have done with a lie in this morning, but instead we’ve got a nice comb….grrrr
We decided to take breakfast in The Islands, as we’d been saving money over the last couple of days. Nice selection of freshly cooked food including on the spot omelettes etc. All very good quality and a nice treat. Not cheap at $62, but it was lovely.
We decided to remonstrate with the concierge team about all the **** ups – just to make us feel a bit better. We asked them to remove the rollaway from room and not to charge as it was so uncomfortable despite Laura weighing nothing more than a feather! No problem with that, but that had no explanation for the hospitality person ignoring the do not disturb sign.
The weather was a bit overcast and then started to rain lightly so we hung around in room a bit and had coffee etc before finally heading into Universal Studios at about midday.

We headed over to the new Simpsons ride first – WOW! – what a ride for all you Simpsons fans out there. It was so clever and so funny! An absolute must do. :thumbs-up
Then we saw signs for Disaster – which was really just a renaming of the old Earthquake ride. Not too bad though.
For the first time ever we managed to coax the girls into Twister – I think they thought previously that they’d be whisked up into the air never to be seen again!
Laura thought it was fine – funny in places. Alex didn’t like it at all – she said it was too loud!
Next we went over to Men in Black which we all love (Alex also thinks this is a bit loud, so she never gets a very good score as she tries to fire at the aliens with her fingers in her ears a the same time (not an easy manoeuvre!)
We are a real tussle with one of the lockers – having put our stuff in there we couldn’t get it to open! Eventually after some help from one of the assistants we got everything out and headed over to Jaws.
This really is so dated now, funny – but dated. I feel so sorry for the drivers having to do that routine every few minutes all through the day!
Across back over the lake and we headed into ET – where our challenge each time is to think up different names along a theme. This time we all did rhyming names which sounds funny when ET reads them out at the end of the ride!!
Next for a ride that the girls won’t do - The Mummy. This really is absolutely fantastic – one of the best rides here!
We stopped for a quick snack (Churro and popcorn) to keep the energy levels up then headed over to IOA. First of all we all did Hulk (first time ever for Laura who is now a convert!) then to our main aim for the day – the water rides!
We changed into other clothes first (costumes/bikinis, plus shorts) then headed to Dudley Do right’s ripsaw falls. Wow – this is a bit snug now they’ve changed the seating. It was much more exciting when you weren’t sure whether you’d make it back still in the boat, or holding onto the back!! :woohoo:
Then over to Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge rat barges. Excellent ,excellent ride – we did it 4 times on the trot! We were soaked through after the first go so thought we might as well have a few more goes. Fantastic ride this – as long as you have spare clothes to change into afterwards!
We changed back into dry clothes and then headed for the exit stopping at Hulk again, then got the boat back to the room.

Weeeeeee!
We all showered then flopped for a bit before summoning up the energy to think about dinner for the evening. We decided on Sweet Tomatoes as it’s just down the road. Now I’m not sure how we managed it but we ended up on totally the wrong road and got lost (I know, I know – how may times have we been here!!) and it took us ages to work our way back – but we finally got there and very good it was too.
Very good value at $40 for us all.
Back to hotel hoping for a good night’s sleep!
