I just grabbed our paper off the front step and was actually a bit disappointed as I thought it would be a lot bigger...haven't started reading the ads yet but I'm hoping there's some good stuff!

Do all the shops have sales on Black Friday - what kind of deals do you usually get ? Do tell :lmao:

Ugh! There is just not enough of a good deal out there for me to deal with the masses in shopping centers tomorrow. Parking is enough to drive me crazy. Tomorrow is my day to stay at home and get some delivery food!:thumbsup2

Black Friday has gained momentum over the last few years and just about every major chain store participates. In most cases there are actually only a few items that are drastically marked down...and you usually have to get there way early and wait in line (some people camp out overnight at the electronics stores!). I don't go out as early as I used to, now that I'm a stay-at-home-mom I have the time to find those "must-have" items early on. As a matter of fact, I've turned into a personal shopping assistant for most of my friends that work -- but I don't mind though as it feels good to help them save some time and money. :goodvibes

I think people like waiting in line...I blame ebay for this madness, people buy the crap then sell it for morons on ebay for more than it is worth.

So I went online this morning at 5:30 to get a couple things from Walmart. Well I added the items to my cart and suddenly the site needed to undergo "maintenance". By the time it came back up, guess what was sold out? UGH!

Alicia called me, ring side, from an old fashioned beat down at Wal-Mart this morning!! A skinny guy and a big ole angry woman were throwing down over a cheap Blu-ray player! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

DH set the alarm for 4am and it didn't go off, so I went online and well, you already know what happened.
Sometimes it's not about what you buy, but what you get to watch all around you. Madness!

We were at Best Buy at 5:00 to buy one of the TV's on sale for SD... I will say for a store that has only been open two weeks they did an incredible job.. Handed out vouchers while in line for the items you wanted so that there would be no rushing and pushing.
We were in the middle of the line with about 150 before us and the same arrived behind us (we arrived at 4:30). Most were there to get the laptops and digi cameras from what I could tell. Saw a couple putting away their chairs and TENT just before 5:00, they said to someone who asked when did they get there and they said 11:30 last night and they were 20 something inline...
That's crazy, but in these economic times I can see why..
I've since taken a morning nap and will now start my day

I was at Walmart at 4:15. Thought I was going to see a beat down over the Xboxes but everyone behaved, except the man who thought it was appropriate to pick me up to move me out of his way when I was getting the camera for my daughter. I had just put my hand on the box when I felt his hands on my waist. Apparently I look mean because he started apologizing. What a rude person. I did get the camera though.

OMG Becky...are you serious, the guy actually tried to forcibly move you? I would have yelled for security!!!
This is the first year I didn't go out at all for BF and it's like I'm having withdrawals or something. The only thing we were really looking for was a laptop for DS, but I knew there was no way I would start standing in line in the wee hours of the morning to try and get one of the doorbusters somewhere. I'll just keep watching the sale flyers up til Christmas to see what we can come up with (DS has to put some of his own money with it -- so were going to let him decide what he can afford :teeth: ).

My sister and I actually went to a sale last night after Thanksgiving dinner. She wanted to get a Crickit scrapbooking diecut machine at Michael's. I went with her because we were going to the Southcenter Mall area where there was a deadly shooting last Saturday (not that I could have protected her!!) She's coming over to my house sometime today and we're going to hit the stores. I already went through the fliers last night and tore out coupons and things I wanted to get.

This is why I do not go out shopping on Black Friday. Anyone touching me let alone trying to move/push me out of the way, consider yourself very lucky is you get a nasty look. In most cases my knee will be meeting with some other parts of your body.

That was right here on LI - that Walmart is not in the greatest area, it's not surprising as to the behavior of some people, but to actually kill someone over "stuff" is just crazy

I've never seen the point in trying to do battle with your fellow man to get an item that there is NO WAY you or your children need so badly that you stand in line outside of a store in the cold and rain. It is hype, pure and simple...and people are worked up into a rage over this stuff.
I've always boycotted Black Friday. I always will.

On a brighter note, I saw nothing but people having fun today. Everyone in the lines were friendly and upbeat. I enjoy going on and just hanging out, getting a couple good deals, but nothing I can't live without or pay 5 bucks more for later. For us its just part of the fun of the season.

I was going to try Best Buy for a laptop for DS but I bought online instead...was able to get in on the MSN Live 40% off HP promo that was running yesterday. Got a pretty good system for about $425, so now I'm glad I didn't get up at the crack of dawn and fight the crowds.
