Once for the Magic, once for the Wonder 3 day, once for the Wonder 4 day?
Does it sit there and look pretty the other 4 days?

Apparently, LIVING on the island wouldn't be all it's cracked up to be.

We spoke to a CM on the ship who said the reason that the ship doesn't stay in port "late," and the reason that you aren't there for more than one day in a row is that the BUGS are terrible as soon as the sun goes down.

He said that one time, due to a storm, the Magic visited CC 2 days in a row, but it pulled away and sailed through the night, redocking the next morning, because of the bug situation.

I had heard this rumor before, but the CM confirmed it.

The 3-day cruise calls at Castaway on Saturday. The 4-day cruise with the sea day calls there on Tuesday. The 4-day cruise with a Freeport stop calls at Castaway on Wednesday. The 7-day cruise calls there on Friday.

Incidentally, here's an interesting article about life on "Castaway Cay" before Disney bought the island...

I just got back from the 4 day Wonder cruise and haven't had time to post anything about it yet but I did find it interesting on the ship when the cruise director was talking and asking how everyone liked Castaway Cay and she said the only complaint they get is that there isn't enough time spent there and she said "And that is something we are working on and will announce in the future" so it seems there may be plans for either multiple days or more time there....

Dave, I read the article about Gorda Cay and enjoyed it. Anyone have any idea if there is a care-taker who lives there? Seems with the somewhat shady past and the airstrip (I would assume still there and usable?) the island could still be "at risk".

The CM I spoke to in January said there is quite a crew of people who stay there for 4-5 months at a time, cleaning, and upkeeping everything. Then they get a month off, and can sign up again if they want. Very similar contract to those on the ship.

Yes, there is an island manager named Gunther...he is a very interesting gentleman! :) We interviewed him as part of the "Around the World" tour we did for Dreams in 2000.

There was an interesting article in the Disney Insider magazine about this time last year about Gunther. It told how many other people stay there as well and what their responsibilites are. I will try to find it and post for all if I can.
We noticed a lady on board with us last year. She was alone every time we saw her. We noticed her riding on a golf cart around Castaway Cay while we were there. She was with a person who looked like the Gunther in the article. She was still on the golf cart when we were heading back to the ship and we never saw her on the ship again. Wondered if it was Gunther's wife. All of that just came back to me while reading this post.

Would love to read this. What is "Disney Insider Magazine"?Sounds familiar, but cannot place it? What issue? Where could I (can I?) get it?

No, I found the link for the online version of "The Disney Insider" (disney.go.com/insider), but it appears they don't archive past print versions of the magazine.

Thank you for looking, Dave. I thought I had been all over go.disney.com but hadn't found the "insider." Found interesting info on pin trading for newbies.

As far as the 3 days of Castaway Cay use. I would think that they might offer visits to special (read $$$) guests brought in on the off days. Sort of like the secret private member restaurant at Disneyland. That would get more use out of their facilities. The other islands handle multiple ships every day. OK, I know they don't look as nice, but, you get the picture.
Oh, now I have another thing on my list for when I become a billionaire. I'll anchor my private yacht off of CC for a few days, and come in on the off days to enjoy my privately rented Disney resort beach with my family and dearest friends. Ha!

As I recall from our Magic Trip Jan 2001, there was a talk about building a resort at CC... I hope it is true.... I would love to stay at CC for a week at a time!!:jester:

Believe it or not but we found the aritcle we were discussing. I have scanned it and will email it to anyone that wants it. I tried putting it on a web page but the text did not come out good.
Let me know.
