I am so sorry to hear again about all the recent fire problems in the area. We are thinking of a DL/southern CA trip early next summer, are there any problems with hotels?
I do not want the fire problems to be a deterrent to our coming to CA, but it is a little nerve racking...
We are thinking of DL and maybe the Carlsbad or San Diego areas...were there many problems in either area?
Thanks for the input....

The fires are all out now. They will not affect your trip early next summer.

I certainly know the most recent fires are under control, my concern is the vast number that seem to have popped up over the last year. Is early to mid-June a fire prone time of year?

Unlike a hurricane season, California doesn't have a fire season.
Fires happen in all seasons because their origin is different. Mid-June
is no more or less fire prone than November.

You will be fine at DL and in the Carlsbad or San Diego areas during
June 2009.

June is a humid month along the coast of California. They even have a name for it "June Gloom" - but it tends to burn off (no pun intended) by noon along the coast and your temps will be in the mid-seventies.

Enjoy.

We went to DL 2x this year, May and October and both times fires were burning.

The fires were so crazy this year. Only good thing about them were the school closures they caused. ;)

A word of advice if there are fires near where you are be very careful. Stupid me didn't realize when I was going to visit a friend that there was a fire on the side of the highway and they didn't close the highway yet. I saw it and turned around and had to drive right through it. Scared the daylights out of me. You just have to be careful.

I live in San Diego and was here for the fires that wrecked a lot of acres in San Diego County last year. I wouldn't worry about not coming to California because of fires - most of the times, they occur in grassy areas, which generally tend to be in the less populated areas. In very built up areas like Los Angeles and a lot of San Diego, if there are a lot of buildings the fire cannot spread very rapidly and can be extinguished easier. Oh, and you really don't have to worry about getting caught in it - you'll have plenty of notice if one occurs and can leave as needed no problem. But again, don't let this change your plans for a vacation - it's fairly common, but rarely are they big and unstoppable, and even then, the most heavily populated areas are rarely affected.

If you aren't going to be anywhere near grassy hills, then you have nothing to worry about. If I remember correctly - then the Anaheim area doesn't have much hills, let alone grassy ones with enough space for a wild fire.
The only thing you'll really have to worry about would be the smoke, if there happens to be a fire, and a mask would work fine with that. But, it still wouldn't be very healthy to be outside if there's smoke and ash in the air.
But don't let the risk of a fire ruin your vacation. It's a slim chance that there'll be one when you're in So. Cali, let alone that it'll affect you.
