Am I Dumb Or Smart?

I was able to book a Kidani Village studio standard view (waitlisting savannah view) for the grand opening weekend May 1 - May 4. I'm not sure this is a good move or not. It may be perfect, or it may be a mob scene with it being opening weekend. I might have a great room, or a room next to a construction zone. The staff might be great, or they might be stressed over the leadup to opening. Can DVC pull off a great opening weekend? Will my wife think I'm dumb or smart for booking an opening weekend?

I think you're smart. While there may be a glitch or two, there will also be a high level of management attention and any issue will probably be resolved more quickly than during regular times.

I think if you go with an attitude of a little patience and understanding, you'll have a great trip.

Disney has opened up a lot of resorts over the years, and this is not a "start from scratch" effort with the AKL nearby. I think you'll be fine. :thumbsup2

I think that as long as you are going into this with an open mind then it was a smart decision. I think it would be tons of fun to be there for the opening and it sounds like you have considered the issues that might detract from the "perfect" stay. Personally, I'd do it in a heartbeat!

I think you may be smart too! Look at it this way...it is a brand new vacation experience, one that can not be repeated. You are going to be at Kidani Village on OPENING WEEKEND. From this time on you will be able to say "We were one of the first to stay there." And if the experience has less than satisfactory service (which I doubt) you will be able to add, "And we helped break the place in!"
When I go to WDW I'm always looking for that "new" experience...something I have not yet done. Looks like you have found a great way for that "new" experience that cannot be repeated. Have a Great vacation!!!

Why you are smart: You booked for opening weekend and I think it'd be a blast to be there to break in the place and be one of the first to stay there. When else will you get to stay in a room nobody else has ever been in? While some might see that as worthless, its just the kind of worthlessness I desire lol. Good job.

Why you may be dumb: I think it'd be dumb to book for opening weekend and not expect problems. But I'd look at it as part of the adventure. Laugh off the bad. Think of yourself as part of the training staff :) And on the small chance nothing goes wrong, its just a bonus.

I was at SSR on opening and with only Congress Park open, they gave all the guests a commemorative gift! Not saying you will get a gift and please dont be disappointed if you don't, but they always seem to make it special.

I remember others reporting that they received a gift basket at AKV when Jambo opened.
