Any PC geniuses out there?

DD got a new laptop recently, which when she started using our LAN seemed to screw it up - none of us could get online. I eventually managed to get it working again, it looked as though it had changed the MAC address of our wireless router, so I cloned the "main" PC's again (where the router is connected) and all started working ok - I'd also taken off the router's encryption.

So both laptops, our mac and our wired PC were working. Thought this morning that I ought to encrypt the network again via the router (same as it is was originally) and now I cannot get the wired PC to work.

Both laptops (one a mac and one a PC) and our iMac are ok, but the PC which is wired to the router doesn't want to see an internet connection. I've tried everything I can , but for some reason the PC will not go online, despite the fact that in "Local Area Connection" status on the PC it is showing connected.

Any expert opinions greatly welcomed, before I smash the sodding thing with a hammer!

I think the main problem you have here is if you should use the 24oz claw hammer or the 2 1/2 pound club for best results.Failing this,the 7lb sledge should definitely do the trick.

You could try and check if the routers IP address is listed in your PCs' firewalls permitted list? It may be blocking access.

It may be blocking access.Funnily enough I thought of that Tim and did look at the Windows Firewall, but it's just got a list of permitted applications and I couldn't find somewhere to put in the router address - I do have a feeling that this may be the issue though.

Does the PC use a static IP address or does it regularly renew from the router? If the router issues a new IP address it may have issued one already in use on your network, it's a long shot but could be the reason....

If you use a third party firewall (i.e. not Windows) does the network work if you turn off the firewall? I have had this now and again. If so then uninstall then re-install your firewall looking out for the request for the connection from the router and approve.

Thanks for all the suggestions, all sorted now (with a large dose of help from a DIS-er's DH - cheers bud:thumbsup2 ).

Somehow, the PC had got all of the incorrect info for the Default Gateway and it would appear that the router didn't like it!
