The Unofficial Guide folks over at the touringplans website have posted this as rumor only, having heard it from two separate sources:

That new WDW discounts are going to be announced during the broadcast of the Christmas parade for travel Jan - March 2009.

Anyone care to speculate about what might be coming??

Has no one else read/heard this? There are often so many people "in the know" here, I thought maybe someone might have a little more info....or at least a wild guess...;)

OK I was thinking about this today- if a new code comes thru and I am in my 45 day window am I out of luck? I can not use the 4/3. I am hoping ofr a code so I subing to this thread. I have not heard of anything!

GPA1015,
You can still get the discount, but you may have to pay a change fee, or cancelation fee depending on circumstances. I believe if the savings are higher then the fees $50 change $100 cancelation (between 45 and 7 days?I think) it will be worth your while.

I hope if there is something, it works for check-in dates starting Jan. 2. We missed the 4/7 deal by 2 days. Grrr....

I'm hoping there is something for those of us that can't stay the full 7 days. Room only code, free dining, etc.

I am hoping that whatever it is will be good through April. It's not all that far in advance and it takes time to work out flights & other things for many of us who dont live close by and cant just drive in...:confused3

I was also hoping the "big" deal when it came out would be free dining starting Jan 2. Right now I'm only at the AS for 5 nights starting Jan 4, but we arrive in Orlando on the 2nd. We've never been able to take advantage of free dining, and that would be SO nice!

I doubt they'll offer that, now, though. It would almost be a "competing" offer: maybe some people that extended their stay would change their reservation. Also, for value resorts, free dining is a better deal (worse for Disney).

So, now I'm just really hoping for a great general public code...even 30% for values would be better than the AAA rate I have now. And with 2 rooms I'd save even more.

Crossing my fingers that as soon as your Thanksgiving is over they'll announce something for January.

I'm betting it is room only codes. When I was at POP, I had a bounce back program for 2008 and almost all of 2009, with the exception of Peak Season, and the higher weeks of summer. It had 10% off a value, 20% off moderates and 30% off deluxes.

When I got to POR, it had a better offer for Bounceback. It had 40% of Deluxes, 30% of moderates and 20% Values. Same weeks. I had to call to use the codes before I left. But I'm betting they are just going to extend those codes. Mine didn't have the free dining. But I had an old Bounceback flyer I found in POP (I found in a drawer) and they had a 20% Value code for next Aug/Sept with free dining. On this one, you had to call by Oct. 27, and it was Nov. 7th when I checked in.

I don't think it can be this because the current offers says that you need to book by 12/20/08, but I guess they could extend it.

I'm hoping for a really good room only code.

It is on Christmas Day. It seems kind of last minute to me that they would come out with a new discount for January - March stays. My guess is that they announce it sooner, or it goes longer into 2009.

Honestly, I would keep more in tuned with mousesavers.com for discount info. The parade broadcast is still fun though. :santa:

I am really hoping for a room only code. I would love a quick getaway trip with my DH. A 4/3 deal would just be too long for us to leave the kids. And I hope they announce it early in Dec. That way I can ask for it as a Christmas present :goodvibes . (Guess I'm always scheming for an extra Disney trip!)

As long as we are wishing I wish that the buy the current promotion was a buy 4 get 3 free where the 3 (at equal or lesser value) could be used as desired within a 14 day window instead of having to have 1 contiguous reservation in the same set of names.

These only go up to 8/23-10/3/09 with all those other weeks.

40% off a select Disney Deluxe Villa Resort
30% off a select Disney Deluxe Resort
30% off Disney Moderate
30% of Wilderness Cabins this one does not have January or Feb. dates
20% off Disney Value

But I think you need to have been there and had to pay for one nights room plus tax before you checked out

CindyCan

At what point do you think I should give up on a GP discount starting Jan 4th? Right now I've got a AAA rate on 2 rooms at Sports, but if I switched to the 4/3 deal (can only use 5 nights, not 7), the price is an exact wash when I include the 2x$200 gift cards EXCEPT I would walk away with 5 1 day base tickets, which is worth $400 to me down the road.

But, I don't want to lock in to the "package" only to find out 2 days later a GP 40% code came out, which works out as a better deal for me.

I was kind of hoping that shortly after your Thanksgiving they'd announce something...I would think that they might get an influx of bookings as families talk (or fight!) over the holiday, but then that drops off & they see how many rooms are left & announce SOMETHING!!

jjohnson
11-30-2008, 02:30 PM
I would go with the 7/4 deal. Even if a GP discount comes out, isn't it usually around $20 per night? I think your better off with the tickets.

I think there might be something to this rumor. Jim Hill (take it with a grain of salt) seems to also mention things going on at the Resorts starting in January:

"Getting back to Walt Disney World ... There are some very scary rumors currently making the rounds about how far down advance reservations for the Resort are for the month of January. According to one Disney insider that I spoke with late late week, to date only 35% of the resort's available room nights have been booked for the coming month.

Should this rumor prove to be true ... Well, you can expect the Mouse to roll out some pretty spectacular packages as we get closer & closer to January. With Disney doing whatever it can to put some heads in beds in those 32,000 hotel rooms that it now owns & operates on property."

I have trouble believing that only 35% of the rooms are booked for the month of January. If that were true, there would have been better availability for these most recent discounts. So, I don't think that number is right. However, if it is right, well, then I agree with the original rumor and the statement that Jim Hill makes about more deals on the way.

I would be surprised if they waited until Christmas to announce though.

We are toying with going. Were not really even thinking about it, but got excited over the 4/3 deal. But we couldn't get the Poly concierge for that time, so it kinda burst our bubble.....

Just kinda playing it by ear. If a deal is good enough - we will probably book a MArch trip.

12-02-2008, 04:40 PM
For those of us that have to plan our trips months and months in advance, in order to save for it, the only real deal that is worth us looking at is something like the 4/3 offer but it would have to extend into Dec 2009. With funds being low and having to only plan one trip at a time Disney has to really think farther ahead then this spring to get my head in one of their beds!

akayek31
12-02-2008, 05:43 PM
I hope it is free dining to go with the 4/3 package. It would cost me who is a single mother of 2 over $800 to get the dining plan and i am not sure i can afford that even working two jobs. :hippie:

I know I'm a new comer on these boards... but wanted to share...

A few weeks back I was talking to my coworker's partner (ex-cm) and we got to talking about disney vacations. Still being in the know... he commented on this email he had recieved in regards to bookings still be drastically low and disney deciding/discussing offering free dinning in addition to the 7 for 4 deal already released.

I took it was a grain of salt like all things...

Talking to a good friend tonight... he mentioned a call he recieved from a disney cm who's husband now works closely with disney's reservation system. Apparently a 7 for 4 disney package with free dinning for length of stay is now in the reservation system awaiting release later in December.

With the current package ending on 12/20... I'd definately expect to see it christmas week...

I already booked the 7 for 4 deal Jan. 20-27 at the Contemporary with a Tower Bay Lake View and paid for Counter Service Dining Plan. If they do offer this I'll be past my 45 day window where you can make changes without a fee.
If they add this plan and my dates are included, would I be able to change to the free dining deal and keep my reservation the same? Would they charge? Or would it only be for new bookings?

If I am not mistaken, the purpose of these codes and incentives is to get people who are NOT already booked to book a vacation!

If bookings are way down for January - I can see adding more incentives to get more people to come.

They really don't have a reason to try to get people already coming to spend less!

We were not planning on a vacation to Disney anytime soon, but if the right deal came along we might decide to go. My kids have started enjoying going to other places although they still love Disney! So it will be interesting to see what they can do to entice me and others like me!:cheer2:

Sorry I don't know more guys... if I had any idea on dates or "what ifs" I'd definately share... just only getting bits and pieces as I go along. Still waiting on a text back in regards to the dates of the promotion if he was told any.

I had thought the 7 for 4 deal applied for dinning as well. . Was I wrong about that? It would make sense thinking back as the package we priced out did seem a little on the high side if that wasn't the case :ssst:

My gut feeling is what another poster had mentioned... since Jan - Mar recieved a $200... perhaps this addition of free dinning is a last ditch effort to boost occupency for April - June.

Although wasn't there a free dinning package offered this winter with little notice in regards to dates? Was that an exclusive Disney Visa Card holder package? If so could this be the case too?

It's a waiting game now :bored:

I am hoping for a mid-August discount, so your post is encouraging to me! :goodvibes

To answer the one poster - NO, dining was not included in the current 4/3 deal. But it would be a good deal if it were.

If they add dining, or offer a free dining in conjunction with a package discount, especially if it's for April/May, I'm in.

If I don't have to go in the Sept heat, I'd be happy!

It seems that it is a room only rate that they will be announcing according to unofficial guide when I looked. Mentioned that it would be released tomorrow

New room-only discount to be announced tomorrow
Word around town is that Disney will announce a new room-only discount on Thursday, December 4 for travel dates from January through April 4, 2009. Room rates are said to begin at $49/night. We could be wrong, so don't go off selling plasma to pay for that room at Pop Century until it's official.

I am sure it is still soooo worth it, but just wondering.

Yes, I'd like to know, too, as I JUST finished paying for our package in January, but if some better deal comes along, I need to know what the change fee is...anyone???:confused3

Are room only discounts not available at deluxe? I just booked a short trip in January staying at the Contemporary Atrium Club -- first time staying there and it's a pretty penny...I wouldn't mind a discount at all :-)

It's $50 if the new package price is lower, and $0 if the new price is the same or higher. That's of course only within the penalty period.

Add some free dining on my package and I am more inclined to spend a lot more money in the parks...maybe even lengthen my stay!

I think the rumored discounts are up on the website now. I'm not looking for this time frame but under special offers section there is a room only deal starting at $49 for values in value season. Goes from 1/4, I believe thru April 8. We need later in April and are at Poly so the 4/3 is our best bet. Hope this helps!

Well thats much ado about nothing - a pretty worthless offer, definitely not better than the buy 4 get 3 deal for us.

in fact, for our 10 day trip in March, with dining and tickets added, the new codes prices out $83 more for the trip and doesn't include the $200 gift card

I just got off the phone.....

OZI code at Poly was 450 a night...for 7 it was 3155 room only.

Pricing the 4/3 is 3333 before 200 gift card for my family of 2/2.

Not sure there is a reason to do the OZI - even if you have annual passes. I guess I must be missing something as I don't see what the circumstances would be for me to do the room only....I guess if I had a larger family and didn't need tickets......

It would be a nice deal for me (and my short trip with DH) if it included weekends. Our trip is Friday through Sunday night. So, it sounds like the only night we could get a discount on is Sunday. Is that correct?

CindyCan
12-04-2008, 07:38 AM
Well, it works for me! We can only stay for 5 nights, and I just called to get the new rate. Saved myself $50 over 5 nights, and upgraded to preferred.

For us, the 4/3 deal (well, 4/1) worked out to $400 more than our AAA rate, which would have been offset by the $400 in gift cards (2 rooms), so it was a wash. The only bonus would be the 1-day park tickets we'd have for future (and we already have tickets for this trip & the next).

I prefer this, where I actually save $50 & get a better location.

Finally, a deal that works for me!!!

I think you are probably right about that. I just priced out our already booked March trip (4/3 deal) at WL with dining & the same trip is close to $700 more (less $200 g/c) with the new deal.

I'm guessing that if you are staying the whole week (esp at a deluxe) the 4/3 deal will generally come out better. If you can only do a shorter stay for whatever reason, this may be better for you.

If you are doing a value or mod, run your numbers, it's probably a whole lot closer than my example. Have fun folks! :)

Yeah, the 4/3 deal is def a GREAT deal at the deluxe resorts, and still a pretty good deal at mods. We are at CSR right now for March, but I am probably going to upgrade to AKL or maybe Poly (:worship: ) if a room is still available after the holidays w/ the 4/3 discount. I know we'd never stay at Poly otherwise...so this may be a good opportunity. I am just worried that once we stay on the monorail line, we'll never want to go back to a mod:sad2:

In totally agreement, the 4/3 is better for deluxes. My 4/3 (actually only can stay 6 nights) package for at the Contemporary Resort MK View Room, ins., 10 day MWY ticket (might add on no exp. during the trip depending on how many days we use), deluxe dining, for 2 Adults, 1 Jr, 1 Child, 1 infant is $4429.39 (minus $200 GC) = $4,229.39.

This new deal it would cost $5,009.79.

And with no discount it would have cost $5,435.18

I save $1200.00 with the 4/3.

I also have a Disney rewards card with $600 on it...so my bottom line is going to be $3629.39:banana:

Our budget was no more than $4000 for the trip....I'm happy!

Hope the new deal works out for alot of you. I've been crunching numbers for months...and I got it to where I want it, fortunately. Otherwise we could never do this trip with this room.

The 4/3 deal is only great if you want to stay exactly 7 nights. That eliminates a lot of potential guests, particularly return guests looking for fewer nights.

I'm sure Disney is monitoring 4/3 reservations and cancellations particularly guests who cancel at the final payment date.

I'm afraid I have to disagree - we were initally booked with AAA rate at YC WV for 5 nights - when the 4/3 deal came out, it still saved us $50 plus the gift card -then we added 2 nights afterwards for nothing.

My guess is that the poster means that deals will keep appearing as they monitor the amount of current reservations. If a lot of people cancel out at the 45 day mark (which is now, or soon, for a lot of the sale dates),
they offer more sales.
Which may be what we are seeing with the room only rate.

They ARE allowing the sale for 5 nights, but anything less wouldn't qualify.

I still don't think the new code announcement dismisses the idea of "free dinning" for us April and May travelers. If that was that case... why wouldn't they just include dates for April and May like they did with the 4/3 package?

As a May traveler... I'm not giving up hope just yet!

Disney seems to love releasing packages/codes on Thursdays (seriously... check out mousesavers' historical discounts page)... and sure enough... what day does Christmas fall on this year? :ssst: It seems like the PERFECT chance to release a "huge" package like this... maximum exposure.

I just noticed that Disney has extended the 7 for the price 4 deal. You can now book until January 20th instead of the December 20th date. I really am hoping that Disney's extension doesn't have anything to do with the rumors of more discounts to come. Originally Disney had the booking date to stop on December 20th.

Where did you see that the booking date had been extended? I just checked Disney and I didn't see it. My daughter has to be at a Beta convention and that would help me very much if I could wait until after Christmas to book this.

Now, I know I'm not crazy, silly maybe, but not crazy. I know I saw a January date. That's the reason why I posted. Disney is really something. I just read on another thread that they were trying to book those fall deals that are suppose to expire on the 13th, but Disney said it expired on the 7th.

I dont get it:confused3 ...why do you say that? and in bold?

I'm afraid I have to disagree - we were initally booked with AAA rate at YC WV for 5 nights - when the 4/3 deal came out, it still saved us $50 plus the gift card -then we added 2 nights afterwards for nothing.

Assume you only had enough vacation time to stay 5 days. Any of the other discounts offered during slow travel times would have been a better deal. Free dining---40-45% code.

My point was directed to the posters (and internet sites) that describe this as the best deal Disney ever offered.

That's exactly what I meant. Given the economy I think a number of people will wind up cancelling when the final payment is due.

While I do agree that this deal may not be the BEST Disney has ever offered - It comes close. Look at it like this. The 40% off code is a 'luck' code. If you are lucky to get the email or this code attached to your name - your lucky realllllly lucky. I got it once from a poster who posted the code on a thread. Within a few minute the Mods removed the code. Again luck. I've NEVER been offered a code via email or snail mail. Those FREE dining deals are during value season - a season that many families DON'T travel. The 7 for 4 deal is for the first 6 months of the year (excluding holidays) - and it includes the whole MONTH of March. During March is Spring break for schools that don't follow Easter as the Spring Break time. That's Many public schools in the USA. AND they are giving out $200 gift cards + allowing people to prepay $400 for a $500 gift card. Come on - these are great deals. No need to "find" a code, forge one (by repeatedly calling a willing CM to give you a code), no stress in your face codes. You can't beat that.

And.... I think more - even better deals will come. For example - my Spring Break is still available (March 15th week).  It's December - EVERY YEAR our SENIOR Class goes to Disney. WE usually have everything locked in by the end of September. By December our week has been BOOK SOLID (for 5 years straight) with NO changes allowed (adding rooms) by mid-November. It's almost mid-December and there are SEVERAL rooms available. It's unbelievable.

Yes, in the summer of both 2001 and 2002, Disney offered the 4/3 deal in the summer. I went both times in July. Matter of fact, for the summer of 2002, we were also give $200.00 in Disney Dollars when we checked in. It was great. I am hoping that they offer something for this upcoming summer as well. I am scheduled to go in August so hope at least the free dining will be back.

In October of '03 they offered "Kids stay and play free" for winter '04.
There was also a $100 in Disney dollars with that if you booked with a Disney Visa. Not quite as good a deal, but it saved us a little bit.

Best deal for us has consistently been free dining, and if they include a room discount, that would be even better. But that is dependent on our family size (9) and length of stay (a week or more).

We are not from Syracuse......but just a stone throw away in Rochester. We are planning a late April trip. Just curious, when does the Syracuse area have spring break? Ours is The week of April 19th. We are planning to go 4/21 -4/28. My DS's school also has Mon 4/27 off (if we don't use too many snow days) so he will only miss 1 day. I am hoping the Easter crowds will start to wind down by then.

This is just my feeling, but I think the announcement is just going to be the 7 for 4 package booking date extended until Jan. 20th. I think they will announce it like it is something new that the public hasn't heard about. I know some were saying that the booking date on WDW website changed from Dec. 20th to Jan. 20th for a half day or something a few days ago.
My other theory is that it will be free dining during a slower time like the month of May.

Yes you can. If the new changes result in a lower rate, then there will be a $50 fee. If it's the same or higher, then no charge, however, there's a so called $10 processing fee. This is for 2008. There are supposed to be changes for 2009.

hmmm...wierd. i check in 4/4 and we have it through the 11th. it would do you no good then, you wouldn't have it at all. you pay for first 4 nights, and get none free b/c the first free night would be after the promotion ended. you should price out a regular package, w/o any discount, on the website and compare that to the price you are paying with the "deal". that should
clear things up.

This is correct. If are checking in on the 27th you are getting the first night free only. The rest of the time is at regular rates. If you check in on the 24th of June or earlier then you are getting 3 nights free.

For the person that was saying they got it for April that is because all of April falls within the promotion period just that the availability is limited during Easter time. There really wasn't any blackout dates even though Disney was promoting it that way

Well...original speculation thought that it would be the counter service. But bounceback got the regular dining. And Then the economy caused all the sales...so now we're guess regular free dining.
I figured if the offered it with the counter service one you might be able to upgrade to regular for the difference in price. Hoping it's regular dining and just plain old free. LOL

Yeah I think so too. Free dining is a 'better deal' too. I hope they add July. That is the ONLY month of the whole year that doesn't have any kind of discount. In 2003 when they offered the 4/3 deal, ALL of the summer was included. I hope they give July something. Not just free upgrades either. I remember that deal a few years ago on packages during the summer.

And I find free dining to be of very little value. Our natural dining style doesn't fit well with dining credits. I have one that has food allergies, so we do a lot of TS, and much of it is signature (2 dining credits). And then I have another who generally doesn't like what is on the kids menu so he eats off the adult menu. And my third out eats the other two combined (and he's skinny!) and generally needs a little more than what the kids menu offers. DH and I like an appetizer or to have an adult beverage with our meals every so often. So we would still end up paying a ton OOP, still have to pay tips, and then would have to pay rack rate on the room. We have APs, so we're paying for tickets we don't need and then we also have the TiW card.

If free dining was offered along with a good room discount, I might be all over it, but not by itself.

I have to ask, what does that mean?

It means all that stuff at the end of people's posts doesn't clutter up my computer screen. It helps me read the posts much more easily. So, if you have pictures, information about your trip (including but not limited to trip countdowns or resort choices) or the information about your family that might be pertinent to your post, I'm not getting that information. I read only what is in the post. I've found over the years, if I let people who depend on signatures know this, I might get more information or be forgiven more easily for any blunders.

YIKES! I just priced out my same vacation but with free dining instead of 4/3 deal and it was $200 more with the speculated free dining. Think I will stick with the 4/3 deal unless there is a room discount offered w/ free dining. Wish I could go during value season and get the $200 gift card:mad: . Oh well, just glad I got a good deal during spring break!

I was hoping for an extension for the 4 for 3 deal, but in the end Disney is a business and has to draw the line somewhere in discounts.

To us yes it is old news but think of all the people that do not know about the DIS or have not seen the commercial yet.....it could be first time they hear about the birthday thing and the buy 4 get 3 free deal

If you live under a rock, maybe! It's been well advertised on television.

Ahhh. That makes sense. :goodvibes

Being a somewhat paranoid person, I was afraid it meant something else!:thumbsup2

I agree. This was a letdown. The Free On Your Birthday has been heavily advertised for months now. I was expecting something spectacular. At let my family and I were able to reminisce about our visits past during the parade. Maybe there is still something to be announced soon. :confused3

Come on guys Disney is a business and buy 4 and get 3 free is something we all can be happy with! I bet if they gave free dining some of you would want more?? Lets be thankful with want we got and remember even with this discount most people still will never get to see the magic that Disney brings.

Merry Christmas and God Bless

I would be happy with the 4/3 if they extended it into the summer months (July or early August).

Im so embarrassed. I am known as the local disney expert and I told everyone I know to watch the parade because they were announcing a new deal for next year.

I guess that is what I get for perhaps being too much of a Disney know it all.

No, that couldn't be it.

But honestly tell me how many people who live way out of state would be benefited by the free admission on your birthday deal? I stated in another thread that that deal just doesn't even matter to me, because no way would it work out for me to plan a trip around my birthday just to go there and have free admission on one day...I would think it benefits FL and neighbor state residents more than others.

i agree 4/3 is a good deal...esp since i got it for spring break...but it is a long trip. would be nice to have a promo that we wouldn't have to ask off so many days at work for...not that i'm complaining about being in disney for 7 nights!!

Even though we've got APs but we had planned a trip to take advantage of this deal. We've got 3 birthdays that fall within the same week so that was 2 children admissions and 1 adult admission that we'd be getting GC's for. That's souvenir money for the kids. We've also got DVC so the only thing we'd be paying for OOP would be flights and food.

So it would be a great deal for our family.

Wouldn't that fall in the minority though? 3 family members on the same trip with free admission? I am a single mom and have one child. It makes no sense for me to take advantage of this deal for one day out of the year. I also don't have DVC and neither do a lot of Disney goers. Just saying that this birthday promo really doesn't help those who live pretty far away, for the majority. It caters more to states bordering FL or people who live within a few hours or less.

It's not the best offer, in general. I think it plays well as a "Celebration" deal- it gets your attention, but not huge deal.
We wanted to plan a trip in 2009, waiting on free dining for Visa, but sometimes dates get hard for us to make, our schools start back up so early, and also, it's just so hot in August.... so we are looking at doing my grandson's birthday Oct 4th, since he has fall break at that time, and he would get a GC, which he would be excited about. Really isn't a savings in any way, but crossing my fingers for free dining to run into first week of Oct.
I saw that Disney Visa had a dining offer this last fall.
I would change dates for a better discount though, since a package discount, or free dining is much more valuable than a $60-$75 GC.

ITA! We are going in May and even with 5 birthdays spaced throughout the year still could not take advantage. Birthdays are Jan, April, June, Aug & Nov. So we had a good chance but we just can't make those days work (Peak/holiday costs/crowds, work restrictions, heat related health issues, etc.). Which means for us free entry on your birthday is a joke.

Of people visiting each park each day how many can/will take advantage of this benefit - I'm betting less than 1%.

The only good news for procrastinators is they have extended the 4/3 booking window to Jan 24.
