I just got back from our 3rd trip to SSR. I am in love with this resort but I have to say, our room was disgusting and just plain ole beat up. There were chips in the tile around the tub, the stain on the arm of the chair by the sliding door was coming off, it just was in really rough shape. On top of that, it was filthy. The floors were dirty, there was dirt caked up in the corners of the room, there was a chocolate milk stain running down the wall by the table, dust and grime was caked most everywhere that collects dust. I was so surprised because the last 2 times we have stayed there it was really clean and in great shape. And we stayed in Congress Park everytime.

It did not ruin our vacation by any means, it was just one of those things that made you kind of feel like you were not in a DVC place.

I am sorry to hear about the room. Did you contact the management and show them the mess? I am checking in there tomorrow.

No, I am not really the type. I just cleaned it myself and went on with my vacation.

I don't mind picking up something that didn't get vacuumed, or wiping down the odd counter but this sounds like the room was never serviced! I would have requested an immediate clean after showing management some photos.

Not Acceptable in my book.

I am glad that you had a nice time. The room's condition is not something we should tolerate!

Congress Park and the Springs are probably close to needing some rehab soon. They have been opened the longest and thus, have had the most usage.

If we don't let DVC/housekeeping/whoever, know what is wrong, they can't fix it. If there is a true problem, please, please, let someone know. If there are housekeepers slacking off, maintenance issues that need attention, they won't be taken care of if we don't tell them. Complaining here won't fix anything there.

I agree. Please next time let someone know. It helps everyone. No one should have to accept a room in that condition.

I'm so sorry to hear about your stay. I really hope that you reported it to management or somebody who can remedy it. This is intolerable and I hope you paved the way to not allow this kind of service in the future!!!

Wishing you much pixie sust on future trips!

OP...maybe you can mail a letter now with your room number explaining how you don't like to complain...but that you realize they can't fix it if they don't know about it.

Glad it didn't ruin your trip:goodvibes

You don't need to be any particular "type" to get obvious problems resolved. "Hello...my room is disgusting...please come clean it properly...thank you!"

That's not a complaint and there doesn't need to be anything confrontational about it.

Yes, if people dont let them know, they cant check into it. You dont need to complain, just let them know.

We just bought DVC and used some dev points to stay at SSR, and I was amazed at them! The room I was in, 3630 in The Springs, was awesome! I'll admit that I think I heard more noise in these 'deluxe' resort then I ever have in a value or moderate. That was a little disappointing.

This is exactly what I'm afraid will happen when we're meeting relatives at SSR on 1/2/09. I've booked four studios(DH and I, my two adult sons, my cousin and his wife, cousin's daughter and her husband). We arrive mid afternoon on the 2nd, the cousins don't arrive at MCO until shortly after midnight. I'm seriously considering changing the names on the rooms (one each to DH, myself and each of our sons) just so we can make sure the rooms are OK. I would be very embarrassed if they arrive after midnight and their rooms are dirty, especially after we've raved about DVC for several years to them!!! If I change the names I can just list each of them with one of us in each room and we'll just meet them at the security gate to SSR instead of having them go to check-in. Has anyone done this in the past?

I'm in a 2br at CP right now and it is immaculate. I've never had a really questionable room in 6 DVC trips(SSR,BCV,VWL and VB).

And I certainly would call Housekeeping if I found a problem, not just clean it up myself. If we as owners don't let the supervisors know, how do they fix the problem? I don't think they read these boards to figure it out.

By the way the bus service has been the best I've had. Longest wait 18 minutes. We'll see how it progresses through Turkey week.

I will write them a letter and explain to them what happened and give them the room number.

It is certainly not something I worry about in the future for SSR. It was something I just figure is a fluke.

I think that's a great idea though. With our member's notifying DVC it WONT be something that happens in the future and it will remain a fluke. THanks for doing this!

I think that is totally unacceptable....You were much too kind...I would not have accepted a room in that poor condition.

Housekeeping certainly was "off" on this one....Hope that DVC can "do something" for you in return for your trouble...

Good Luck!:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Sorry but have to ask this, if you were not willing to let management know about this and get it fixed, why share it here. :confused3

If everyone ignores these types of problems, everyone that follows after them is going to find a room like yours.

Please, please report problems and unclean rooms.

I think you have a good idea. Murphy's Law almost guarantees that one of the rooms will have an issue. We took my sisters on our first WDW DVCtrip. In hindsight, it was the worst room that we've had thus far. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't at all pristine. Plus, I know they would have never said anything to me if they had seen a hair in the shower, etc., but I will always wonder what they really thought.

It may be the martyr in me, or in the thought that I want everyone to be impressed, but I would check all of the rooms out and take the worst one for myself. Be warned though, I think my sisters would assume that I took the best room, not the worst. You may also want to think about issues concerning the dining plan, charging to the room, etc.

Overall, don't be alarmed. There have been very few threads regarding the cleanliness of SSR. However, housekeeping does tend to be the achilles heel for all of DVC.

This may not match the textbook definitely of Murphy's Law, but my observation to DonnaL would be that no matter how many hoops you jump thru, chances are some occupant of those four rooms will dislike SOMETHING once they arrive. Could be the location. Could be the view. Could be the floor the room is on. Could be the decor. Could be any one of a hundred things.

Checking in all of the rooms probably won't occupy a great deal of extra time, so you're welcome to do that if you wish. Just make sure nobody is getting the DDP because they'll be charged extra for you if you are listed on each registration.

Personally I probably wouldn't sweat it. Check with everyone after they are in the rooms and make sure there aren't any issues. If there are, call and get them resolved promptly.

Just be careful you don't spend the entire trip trying to bend over backward for everyone else. I've done that myself. By the second or third day of the trip I realized that I was spending so much time worrying about our guests' experiences that I wasn't really enjoying myself.

Additionally, chance are you'll be a lot more critical of any bumps in the road than your guests will be. To that end, you'll end up even more stressed-out trying to make things right while your guests have simply moved on.

That's my $.02.

Actually, DDP and room charges really won't be an issue because we're only at SSR for one night. I just don't want them to check-in after 1:00 a.m. (their flight arrives at MCO at 12:25 a.m.) and have a problem with the room that late at night after they've been traveling all day from the West Coast. If the stay was for more than one night and DDP/room charges could be a problem I probably wouldn't consider doing it. As much as I hate to admit it, we're actually staying most of the time offsite this trip............ We're having a reunion of cousins, four from Washington, four from Pennsylvania, and five from Florida. We don't have enough points for a nine day onsite trip for that many people and have a house rented beginning the 3rd.

We had similar housekeeping issues with VWL in September and I emailed DVC with our concerns. Within 5 days Sheila called from DVC to address our problems and advised that comments would be shared with appropriate management to ensure that all of us as members receive acceptable services.

Sent it out right now. In writing it I remember what the basket looked like on trash and towels day. There were no large bath towles but about 6 or 7 bath mats, and two pillow cases but no sheets.

Are they supposed to come in the room and take out the trash? Because they did not do that. The last two times I stayed we always had the do not disturb sign on but this time we just never put it on.

We checked in on 11/21 and our T&T day was 11/24. Got all fresh towels and mats. Plus they emptied the garbage, though we had already taken a bag ourselves down to the trash room. Now I've noticed at SSR the basket is there very early, they didn't come to the room until about 2pm-3pm. We were at the pool.

We got back from SSR last week. We were in Congress Park and it was nice and quiet in our room.
We noticed our coffee maker was chipped so we left a note and mousekeeping took the whole thing and left us lots of coffee.....I don`t know how we were supposed to use it. It had been chipped but we had only used it twice so it didn`t matter that much.
I called up when we got back from the park and found the coffee maker gone. They had a new coffee maker to us within half an hour.

I was disappointed though that we didn`t get anything special done with our towels like last time we were at AKL.

It wasn`t a bad room or resort but I can`t see myself staying there again anytime soon.

You should absolutely let someone at management know. For the kind of money we all pay as DVC members rooms should be sparkling. I know if i brought guests and a room looked like that i would feel embarassed.

You cant ever expect a room to be clean if no one ever lets management know theres a problem.Granted, people who stay in the rooms shouldnt be pigs either.

This goes to show you too that its hard to expect rooms to be in tip top shape if DVC doesnt clean the room every day of your stay. If someone makes a mess on day 1 it can sit there for days until the cleaning people come. thats always been a little pet peeve. i feel like for the boatloads of money spent they really should service the room to at least a small degree every day. i know the rooms are big (but honestly studios are almost as large as regular rooms at the regular resorts) but its hard to swallow sometimes that regular disney resort stayers get daily service but DVCers do not.

If you want that sort of service you need to stay at a Four Seasons. We stayed at one of the Marriott's in Park City and you had to pay extra for a midweek towel change. Owners voted to not spend their MF's on that, but have it as an extra.
