thanks

I think the best thing would be to let your server know who is and who isn't on the plan when you arrive at a restaurant. Then they could split the bill for you. You can't use credits for others at the same meal, from what I understand.

You can't use credits for people not listed on your reservation and on the DDP, but I don't see why they would object if you were at a TS a la carte restaurant and one of the members of your party not on the DDP wanted, for example, to taste a few bites of your dessert. I can't see that being a problem.

Yes, you can sit at the same table. Let your server know who will be using DDP credits and who won't. They will split the bill for you.

Not quite sure what you mean by sharing. If you are asking if you can split meals with them or use your credits to cover them, then no you can't.

The rule is that you may not use your dining plan credits to pay for meals for persons who are not on your reservation (who did not pay for the dining plan). This extends to splitting meals. You may split entrees at a la carte restaurants with someone else on your reservation and your dining plan, but not with someone who isn't.

Not sure how that extends to tasting the dessert.

You won't be permitted to use more meal credits in one transaction than you have listed on your reservation. Because your key card will have printed on it that you have two adults on the reservation using the dining plan, you will be able to use dining credits to pay for only 2 adult meals at a time. You won't be able to order 5 adult meals and pay for all of them with your dining plan.

You can eat with other persons who aren't on your plan, you just are not supposed to share your credits with them. Make sure your server knows how many meals you will be paying for with cash, and the check will be split.

Disney does not allow sharing of meals with those not on the DDP plan. In your scenario no, you could not share with your mother if she is not on the plan.

The last 3 years we went and our inlaws from Daytona came to join us several time on each trip. We were on the DDP and they paid OOP we just told the CM and got split checks. On problem any time.

can you share a meal if you are not on the dining plan. just paying cash? maybe we are better not doing the dining plan at all? since none of us are big eaters. i just would like to not have to worry about what i am ordering or the cost.

You can share a meal when paying OOP.

If your family routinely shares meals, as in orders one entree for two people, then you should really look at the cost of the dining plan compared to just paying out of pocket for the whole trip.

For my family, we are vegetarian (fewer choices of food, and the food is generally much less expensive than, say, someone ordering an expensive steak or a lobster etc), hubby has to eat low carbs, DS doesn't eat most of the kid's food I've seen on the menus (it's either meat or it's junk like Uncrustables which he can't have b/c of the corn syrup) and we share food. We will NOT be doing the dining plan, because it makes no sense for us.

So since you aren't big eaters and are thinking of sharing (not ordering a plate of food for each person) already, it might turn out that it works better to not get the DDP. Then again, the DDP includes drinks, so if you drink sodas and whatnot with every meal, that could count in the DDP's favor (we don't drink soda, either). You'll have to do the math! Good luck!
