View Full Version : How is the increase in BLT minimums effecting you?

I was wondering whether more people are going to buy a small BLT contract by January 15 or whether the new minimum is actually making people less likely to buy a small contact before Jan 15th. Sometimes people dislike being told what they have to do! :confused3

Doesn't affect me in any way as I'm not buying BLT at all.

buying now instead of May.

two - 60 points contract with the promotions.

my guide had to get permission (already) to do this.

Doesn't affect me as I already bought 300 points at BLT.

Of course, if I decided to add-on...

I bought 160 points today!!!!

I got the Founders Tile, $5 off and 3 night stay at the Boardwalk (instead of 160 dev pts as it worked out better for us)

I was going to buy anyways, but the new incentive made me buy a little more than I was originally planning on. But now I have enough points at my 2 favorite DVC resorts!!! 180 at BWV and 160 at BLT!!!

Agree with you there! Besides, the point value per night to stay is pretty high there. I like the most bang for my buck so i'll stick with SSR and AKV.

Their timing is poor and the jump from 25 to 100 is an absurd increase. Unless I am drenched in a mother load of pixie dust between now and January 14 we cannot do anything. Well, we COULD but it would be foolish of us as we would have to put it on our equity line and I don't think that's wise right now. I would've preferred to wait a little past the holidays and to get our taxes figured out and filed before making such a decision.

If somebody's NOT going to buy because they don't like to be told what to do, then they're idiots. If I wanted to buy BLT, I'd buy it - but I'd move my purchase up to before Jan 15th so I could save the money.

However, I have no interest in BLT. I'll stay there once in a while, but I only want lake view, which will be very easy to get at 7 months. I have 1140 points, and I don't want my dues to be any higher - so I'd have to sell something in order to buy BLT and I don't like BLT better than the resorts I currently own.

this change, is this for add-ons only or new owners? Can a new member just buy 25 points?

No after Jan 15.

It make me buy the 30 points now instead of this summer. Not happy to do so but didn't want to pay for 100.

new member still have to buy 160 points - same as always.

(they did have for a short time 100 points at AKV but I think that is gone)

Thinking of buying a small add-on, maybe 35 points. What are the promotions?
Thanks, Murphy

promotions only start with 100 points (I think)

basic $5 discount and matching developer points at WDW only SSR can be picked.

if you buy 160 points I think you can go with any WDW resort.

We actually bought in hours before I found out about the increase. The matching DP did it for me. However I was glad they announced the change because DH and I were going to add-on when we went on our trip January 17, 2009 and I must say I would have been angry if I waited and then found out the rules changed when I got there. I also don't feel like Disney is telling me what to do. I think this is a marketing ploy and a good one. On another thread I said timing when to buy-in is like poker. Each person has to decide how long they are willing to wait and potentialy risk losing the good incentives versus risk missing out on potentialy better incentives.

We were planning on doing about a 30-point add-on in the spring but have decided not to buy at all at this point. We may try to pick up a resale sometime in the future, but we'll see what happens. It's nothing to do with DVC telling us what to do. We want to pay cash and aren't comfortable parting with the money right now. I think 100 points is ridiculously high for an add-on. I could understand 50 and probably would have gone for that, but not 100.

It killed the deal for me. Sorry, Celeste... I won't be needing to speak to you, after all.

Was preparing to purchase less than 100 points, but couldn't do it until next year.

Oh well.

sadly, we r in the same frame of mind...all the pixie dust in the world doesn't make the market look any better @ the end of day.

I am wondering if this is just to 'test the market' and if sales drop off whether they will do yet another promo to spur sales (either reverting to prior minimum or $off)?

agree 100%

hate to think it, yet wouldn't be surprised to see many TSs up for grabs within next 2 quarters if the economy doesn't rebound.

while i'd like to see a good deal on a BLT (or any other) resale, i hope that DVC does keep the current ROFR price points intact to keep the value of our purchase/investment (if u will)popcorn::

I couldn't agree more, Lori. We've never financed our DVC purchases and never will. I'm still on the fence about what to do. The nice thing is, if we do nothing, we can still trade for BLT at the 7 month window, or just pay OOP to stay in the Contemporary Tower and get an MK view for a few days here and there. With all the deep room discounts WDW has now and I'm sure will have in the year or two to come, I'm not too worried.

That's a good thought, Michelle. We usually stay at a mod on the weekends to save points, but I'll keep my eye on the room discounts and maybe nab a tower room instead! We only wanted a couple of nights in a studio, so I think with a little flexibility we'll do okay at seven months, since we're not set on having a MK view. It's all about location!:goodvibes

I posted about our dilemma on another similar thread; we haven't figured out what we've going to do yet. We were planning on adding on somewhere between 25 and 50 BLT points in another year or so. It's not about the money; we simply don't need any more points next year... and probably not the year after. With the developer's points on one contract we bought and the banked points on the other, we have enough points to easily do two trips next year and the year after. We like to do travel other than just WDW, so we don't want so many points that we have to use all DH's vacation at WDW.

We have considered, and are still considering, buying a small contract now (just because we have to because of the new limit), and banking the first years points. If we don't buy a small contract now, we're not likely to ever buy BLT points because I don't want 100+ points there.

I guess the 100pt minimum will pretty much kill the deal for me. I've waffled back and forth about this for a bit. I was thinking about buying 50 pts in two 25 pt increments. I could buy 25 now but can't buy the rest probably till next summer. I don't think 25 pts will get me what I want there. Not concerned for the view, but I like the location. I've also been considering points at OKW for a while, the resort really appeals to me, and AKV appeals to my offspring. It's not like there aren't other options available, and maybe in a couple of years it will be possible to get a standard view reservation at the 7 month mark.

I get that the closing costs on addons could be putting a stress on DVD, and we don't want to see our maintenance fees go up. But I'm still not willing to stress my finances for a vacation.

It gives me a deadline to purchase. I have been debating a 55 point add-on for the last month or so. Have the cash in the bank, but I too am reluctant to part with it.

Get me into the holidays, after I've spent my end of year surplus and we'll see.

My guide stated that the developer points are good for SSR, any Passport Collection, Disneyland for one year. I don't know at what point level it starts, but I am assuming anything over 100 points... they matched what we bought. We sold our Boardwalk points to a family member with the full current year's points to buy BLT.. working overtime the next 2 months to cover the diff. This has been my dream for 4 years ever since a BCV kiosk guy stated rumor was back then a monorail resort would be built eventually... what bad economy timing for DIsney... we acted now so we wouldn't miss out.. thought it would sell out fast... that was before Oct. 10! Bad timing for us too... but the maintenance fees on BLT are approx. $1.50/point less than BWV... so our annual costs will go down (slightly).

But have BCV and OKW points too, so we are thrilled with our decision. and we can pool hop to BWV and walk to the restaraunts. still love the outdoor rest. best at BCV... but the view from BLT will be once in a lifetime opportunities for my family... hope they pipe the fireworks music onto the balcony like I was told they would... like CA Grill does.

Resales will be availalbe in time... and we are in for worse economic downturns, but we are over 2/3 there... once we all throw up and quit putting into 401Ks, the bottom will be here and we can once again rebuild... I'm tired of the rebuilding... lost tons in 401K in 2001-2003... anway, off topic. Do what is right... sales will be slow I imagine and in the summer, things should look better and things will pick up.. gate admission is down 15% right now and it's not hard winter yet..more incentives are sure to come ... so start saving now for a small purchase and bank points and stay there every other year .. that's what we are doing.:santa:

I'm not really happy with the new minimum because DH really isn't even interested in BLT but we were considering adding on about 60 points after we toured the model in Dec. Unfortunately, DH has been quite ill and that trip just had to be cancelled so we won't be going again until February. There's no way we need 100 points at BLT. The most we'd ever want to stay there at one time is two nights. I guess we'll have to give it some serious thought once he's up to it. At least I read about this on the DIS so we weren't blindsided when we showed up in Feb.
