Ok this is my Second Pre-Trip report and I know its a long time off but its cold, windy and wet and I need to look forward to my next holiday even though its a year and 9 months a week and 2 days away. :rotfl: Well I can plan and be organised and save my Pennies ready to book it next year when te dates come out. And here's hoping for free dining.
So first off who's going. Well there is me and Jonathan.
Im Jackie I'm 21 and live in Leigh in Manchester. I'm in the last year of my IT degree. This planned trip will be my 10th at Walt Disney World Florida and hopefully my first stay onsite.
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h243/jackieleanne/disney/DSCF0916.jpg
An Jonathan whos 27 and is an Electrical Engineer we are in the process moving in together which is why no trip is planned for next year. This will be Jonathan's 2nd time in Disney and his first onsite stay.
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h243/jackieleanne/disney/DSCF0905.jpg
It will be our 2nd trip to Disney together and we plan on staying this time for 18days if money allows. This will also determine where we stay in Disney. It will probably be a moderate resort and we are hoping for Free Disney Dining Plan. If money allows then we hope to stay in a Deluxe although that may have to wait for a honeymoon trip. If free dining isn't offered we may have to stay in a value.

Saratoga Springs Resort 27th August - 10th September 2010
14 Nights DDP

Accomodations:
Although we both really want to stay in the Grand Floridian it looks like for our 2010 stay we will be in a moderate. We like the look of the Port Orleans Resorts and the Coronado Springs but don't like how the Coronada Springs Resort seems very big.
My Port Orleans French Quarter Quote based on 2009 prices for same period. = Accomodation and disney tickets to get the free dining(including upgrade to DDP from quickservice) would work out at £2000 so £1000 each on accomodations. We are looking at finding flights for around £300 - £400.
(Riverside & Coronado showing at 200 more for time period?)
Saratoga Springs for the same time is coming out at £2111 for the 2 weeks I'm thinking if the 40% discount on these DVC resorts is there again next year for 2010 I would upgrade to Saratoga Springs for an extra £111 in Total.
My Question to everyone is which of the moderate resorts do you like and which of the deluxe resorts are you fave's and why. We are new to onsite stays so don't really have any first hand information about it.

Great start to your pre-trip :thumbsup2 ive only stayed at a value resort so far so i can't help with your question

We have not stayed at a value but have stayed at both the Port Orleans hotels and thought they were great. Have stayed at the Grand Floridian and Beach Club but much preferred Saratoga Spring Resort as we can walk to Down town disney and Crossroads and have a drink in the evenings.
I am sure whichever you chose you will just love staying on site and never want to go anywhere else.
I am hoping to get back to WDW in 2010 so will keep an eye on your countdown.
Enjoy your planning

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am liking the reviews for Saratoga Springs we may give that a go and if things are going well on the job front purchase DVC because the good news is Jonathan's turning into as much a Disney freak as I am and we may be getting to go this year as my sister wants to go for her 18th fingers crossed that my mum says yes.
I've already been selecting my dining choices especially with the way the pound is weakening even out of free dining season paying for the disney dining plan now seems like a much better option for us.

It's never too early to start your pre-trip report Jackie, and I don't blame you for doing one while the weather is so manky ;)
The only moderate we've stayed at was the Caribbean Beach Resort, and although it was very nice, I was glad to get back to the good old Pop Century
The only deluxe we've stayed at was the Contemporary Resort for one night, and we made the big mistake of visiting O'Hanas at the Polynesian the same trip, and we really wished we were staying there instead (maybe one day when those lovely lottery balls go our way pixiedust: ) :)
Have fun planning the rest of your holiday

As Mandy said, it's never too early to do a pre trip report!
We have stayed at POP, Caribbean Beach and Saratoga Springs and loved them all. The Caribbean theme is nice at CBR but, purely personally, I'm not sure it was worth the extra ££££ over POP. What I really liked about SSR is the balcony which the values and mods don't have - great for sitting out with a glass of wine in the evenings after an exhausting day at the parks. Also being able to make drinks and basic meals (we stayed in a studio).
But wherever you stay on site will be great and you'll have a fantastic time! Keep us up to date with your plans :thumbsup2

Thanks guys I've literally got all the dinning options I want picked out. :) I like the look of CBR but like others can't see how its worth the extra cost over POP or the other moderates. I think if the OKW and SSR 44% off offer is on again this year with the free dining we will book that as I really like the look of the resort and It would be great to get the extra features of a deluxe and the larger rooms.

I just had to have a look through the restraunts I wanted to go to while the weather is so dreadfull here. These are the table service ones I have picked out:
Boma
Shutters
Chef Mickeys
Crystal Palace
Liberty Tree Tavern
1900 Park Fare - Breakfast
Olivia's cafe
Kona Cafe - Breakfast
Boatwrights - Breakfast
The Turf Club - Lunch
Tusker House
Rose & Crown
We also want to do Rainforest Cafe again loved it there, shame it isnt on the Dining Plan.

We can't wait I am so excited for August to come round not because its my birthday but because I want to get this holiday booked I really want free dining to be offered. :) We loved going at that time no crowds and the weather was gorgeous a little too hot at times lol.

Virgin now have the prices out for next August/September so have been playing with pricing although holding out for Disney to put their prices up and for the free dining to be offered.
Virgin Holidays quotes are:
14 days Pop Century - using Magical Express
Disney Dining Plan and Disney Ultimate tickets price = £3015
we plan on doing universal but not the other flex ticket parks so would get the basic parks. I think that come August we will hopefully get a better deal direct from Disney Uk.
14 days Port Orleans French Quarter - using magical express
Disney Dining Plan and Disney Ultimate Tickets = £3513
Based on these prices if the free dining plan is not offered I think we would choose Pop although I would prefer to do Port Orleans resort.
I am guessing that even without free dining we could get cheaper than this. I am hoping that with the free dining offer disney also do the OKW and SSR offer as if this is done again we will likely pick one of those two.

Just looked at disney for the same dates this year and we could get the hotel and tickets with dining plan for £1811 for the Port Orleans resorts. So with booking flights separate this would work out a lot cheaper especially if the dining plan is offered. Roll on August so I can find out if it's being offered and get booking.

Hiya I'm staying at POFQ this October for two weeks - and like what you are looking at I did hotel+tickets+DDP - and got the 14 nights for the price of 10 deal that is going at the moment, and got sale price flights with virgin that were a good deal :thumbsup2 It worked out much cheaper!
I think the dates you have looked at will have the 14 for the price of 10 offer attached - so I would just be aware that this offer might not be on next year :)

02-21-2009, 08:08 AM
Yeah I noticed that but thought it still looks a lot cheaper to book flights separate. Will see what they look like in August as we are really hoping for the free dining. Hope you have a great trip. I'm sad now my mum is booking their first holiday to disney where I can't go and as I'm always the planner I'm having to plan their trip knowing I can't go this year. :(

Thanks. :) Just booked our hotel & tickets today! :goodvibes
27th August - 10th September 2010
Port Orleans Riverside free dining! :dance3:
So excited it may be far away but it's booked. Now I just need to start saving to pay for the rest of it got until next July to pay in full though. :) Hoping to pick flights up for around £300-£400 it looks like it is going to work out about £500 cheaper than what a package deal would cost us.
Total including the 14 day ultimate tickets and an upgrade to DDP for the two of us was £1794 to us a great deal as last years with Virgin cost us about £1500 each and that was staying in a Marriott.

We are also going to do Tusker House breakfast (we thought that was the best character meal last year!!:)):), Crystal Palace breakfast (love their french toast!!), and we also love AK's Rainforest Cafe so we will go there as well.
As far as new places, we are also going to try Le Cellier and Beaches n Cream (although we are going to try getting there for 11am when it opens as I have heard there can be an awfully long wait later in the day). We are also going to give Chef Mickey's a try for breakfast - we really didn't enjoy dinner there but as so many people rave about it, we are going to try the brekkie instead!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
its just a shame we have so long to wait to book the adrs isn't it!!:lmao:

Hey we did the dinner to the characters were great but didn't think much to the food that's why we are going to give breakfast a go this year mainly as Chef Mickeys is the one place we will get to see Mickey. :goodvibes Did Crystal Palace breakfast last year and its brilliant if anything for getting in MK early. :goodvibes
And yeah I know end of may I think mine is according to my Dibb trip planner. Also going to be annoying as may have to do a few without having the park hours as we are going end of august then into september so September park hours won't be out.

sounds great!!:thumbsup2 I think we will have to try it there one year - we didn't get on with a villa as we like to feel part of the 'magic' by being onsite, so perhaps this would be the best of both worlds!! :cloud9:

we really enjoyed lunch there last year!!:thumbsup2 I had read a lot of mixed reviews about the food, but to be honest I went so that the children could get to sit in the cars!!:lmao: We were at lunch, so were able to get the burgers and I thought they were really nice!!!popcorn::

See I am not a big eater at breakfast and would go for Crystal Palace breakfast for as much as to get in park early. But with Tusker breakfast and wanting try Chef Mickeys breakfast they both look good I also wanted to do 1900 Park Fare but can't fit it in my plans at moment lol. May end up thinking about paying for a few.
Yeah the burgers at Sci Fi is what is tempting me and I am not usually a burger fan plus :lmao: I want to sit in the cars too. Choices choices. Liberty Tree Tavern I may have a think about it was lovely food but not sure if it will be as good without the characters as it was for my birthday. :sad1: But it was also nice to have a bit of a roast dinner. :goodvibes
Agh to many tough choices. With that and thinking about DVC my mind is in a spin lol and I have another year + to go lol.

Its so funny how we seem to always have the same dilemmas!!:lmao: - I have been toing and froing between all of the exact same places!!:rotfl:
I am keeping my fingers crossed that they bring back the characters at LTT, otherwise I don't think I am going to book it (I can see me being there feeling like something is missing - even though I've never been before - just knowing it USED to have characters will be enough!!:lmao:)
I went for lunch at Sci Fi because I knew that I wanted a burger there (some how it seems the 'appropriate' food choice there!!:goodvibes), but some people have said on the dining board that they asked for burgers at dinner and were allowed to order them - i'm just not very good at asking for something not on the menu!
As for the character breakfasts - I am definitely doing Tusker House (that was by far our favourite last year:lovestruc), Crystal Palace (a must for that french toast!!;) and winnie etc), and Cape May Cafe (we're staying at the Beach Club so thought it would be a nice last morning breakfast before leaving WDW for the ship:thumbsup2!!). But I am still torn between whether to also do O'Hanas and/or Chef Mickeys.
I ruled out 1900 Park Fare as not sure whether my two boys would be bothered about the characters there:confused3, and I really didn't like Chef Mickey dinner so not sure whether to 'risk' brekkie!!:lmao: Finally, we are staying at the Poly, so thought O'Hanas would be nice, but not keen on the 'family style' food. We've good the dining plan for the 5 days at the Poly and for us it probably will only work out value for money if we do character dining, as the boys aren't going to want to eat in any 'nice' restaurants!!:lmao: So I expect I will do Chef Mickeys - after all, I will need to be popping over there to see BLT and to decide on my DVC!!!:lmao:
So as you see - I am having the same dilemmas as you - not a lot of help am I!!!!:rotfl: - I guess as dilemmas go, this is a nice one to have though, isn't it??!!

I know all about men not understanding!!;) - it's exactly the same in our house - Steve (DH) doesn't GET that I need to decide where I am having breakfast, lunch and tea, 18 months in advance!!:lmao: I try to tell him that I need to work out whether the dining plan is gonna work and that its important in terms of adrs - and he just glazes over and shakes his head!!!:rotfl: (oh well at least we have the Dis - peole that really understand the need to plan!!:lovestruc)

Ok haven't been about for a few months as Ive been very depressed because I had to cancel the holiday and I seriously could not come to terms with it. :sad2: To say I was devastated is an understatement however finally through all the recession im hopeful that I should now have a full time job rather than just my casual work at Manchester United and hopefully if this full time work pulls through then its a good enough salary that with months of saving I can afford to put together a trip to the mouse next year still. Update on the trip front.
Hotel & Ticket Disney UK - SSR with free dining is coming to £1870. plus quidco cashback should be £82 pounds back.
Flights. Virgin miles plus money but would be leaving on 29th August is £418 each plus 2000 miles each thinking of doing this rather than the £489 each price im getting for flying on 26th August.
Other than that would just do the 2 day Universal ticket we plan on using disney buses.

Congratulations on your new job and on your trip report! I myself have 20 years old and I'm planning on converting my DBF in a Disney Fan, so I was planning a couple trip by the time of Halloween (2010 or 2011). Keep us update! May be one day I'll PM asking you for some advice because it would be my first WDW "planning by myself" trip!! :scared1:
Have you rebooked your trip??
P.s. I now realise that I've read your trip report of 2008!!! It was a great trip!

No need to apologise Leanne its Disney related and haha I know all about converting boyfriends I converted my bf on that 2008 trip too.
Ask away not booked yet I have to wait for bf to get back from Poland with work (tonight) and then ill bombard him with everything saying that he has been getting messages from me everyday saying about it. If you have any questions at all feel free to ask I did my work experience for Thomas Cook years ago its what I used to want to do. :goodvibes

Hey thanks for posting sorry I didn't reply for a while. Ive been very depressed about the fact that I couldn't rebook this trip despite getting a job it looked like I may of been able to then had a problem with my car's gearbox and clutch and because of how old it was the cost to repair was going to be more than a new car so I ended up £3000 lighter because of that. :(
But I'm back now a little less busy its been crazy at work and I tore and sprained all the ligaments in my arm before Christmas so haven't really been about.
Anyhow definitely going next year I will make sure of it and I'm happy because virgin and Disney do have the prices out although not booking anything until I hopefully see free dining advertised fingers crossed.
I saw AKL for £1600 each on disney flight inclusive with Disney now if I can get that price when Free dining is out I may book that.

Wow I have just come across your pre-trip report, it turned into numerous trip reports without a trip. I hope you get to book something in the near future it sounds like you have had a rough 12months and i'm certain some Disney Magic is called for.
