Gayday at WDW is always the first Saturday of June. This year it will be June 06, however the entire week beforehand has events that go on.

I'm going to Gay Days '09 with my partner. We can hardly wait!
Who else is going?
My partner and I live in SF, California. We're flying to Orlando for the Big One. I've also enjoyed Gay Days in Anaheim, but this year we're going all out. My partner is from Europe; he's never been to any Disney resort.
It'd be great to meet other SF people who are going to Orlando Gay Days '09.

So how does this work? Do people show up before, the day of, etc? And are there certain parks on certain days? Any help is appreciated. I have a trip booked 5-30 through 6-2.

There is a schedule for the whole week on the websites listed in post #3. The festivities usually last a few days before, as well as a few days after the big day at the Magic Kingdom.

Greetings from a fellow San Franciscan!
Alas, I teach high school and will am always still in school during Gay Days. I've gone to Gay Days Anaheim before and had a blast.
My DH and I are confident we will be going to Gay Days 09. Speaking of which, I better get that time approved off... ... ...
Is there some sort of DIS meet and greet type of thing? That would be fun!:thumbsup2

This is going to be really strange-not having PI to go to at night. Rob and I met at PI for Gay Days 2003 and that changed our lives.
I'm hoping that CityWalk will try to plan some events for those of us who are not circuit party types. This would be a great opportunity for them to get some business. Has anyone heard anything?

I've been gone from the boards for a few months ( got laid off then bought my own business ) but one of the first things I did was plan for time off for gay days. I've had my room booked since September and just booked my flights. After working 100 or more hour weeks the last few months I plan on letting loose!! (AGAIN)
See you there :-)

Shoot, I had no idea Gay Days were the first week of June. I mean, I'm glad I'll be down there during then, but I'll be with my mom and my brother who aren't the most...tolerant?...people. Anyone want to give me a preview of how awkward it might be?
DVC~OKW~96
02-19-2009, 05:46 AM
Awkward? Well, that's kind of hard to answer since I don't find it an awkward time. :)
You will see the most amazing sea of red shirts on the Magic Kingdom day. ::yes::
You will see beautiful people with and without children having a wonderful time at WDW. ::yes::
You will see laughter, joy, happiness, and smiles from guests to CMs who are always in a better mood during Gay Days. ::yes::
You may (if you are lucky) ;) see the small band of friends who wear their kilts.
You'll see some hand holding and it will make you smile. ::yes::
Perhaps if you let us know what you may be worried about (a bit more specifically, I mean) we can help you set your fears to rest? ::yes::

Well, I'm not out to my family, and I really don't need to give my mom any more reason to question whether or not I like girls (believe me, it's come up a lot before). Is it really obvious that it'll be Gay Days when we're down there? I'm counting on her being the ever oblivious person she can be and kind of write it off if she asks...
I really don't want to offend anyone or put Gay Days down in any way, because I'm sure it's a great time. I'm just trying to figure out how much I'll have to prepare for the first week of our stay, lol.
DVC~OKW~96
02-19-2009, 07:02 AM
Ah. I see.
Well, to us it's pretty obvious, but that does depend upon your picking up on some of the cues. The red shirts, things like that. However, you will see same gender couples interacting, again with the hand holding and perhaps a quick kiss here and there. That's all I've ever seen at the many gay days we've attended.
Perhaps one of our CMs can give you more info... we tend to be pretty oblivious in some ways ourselves! :)

I'm so excited to be going to Gay Days again this year!
Last time, I saw friends from several other cities and was surprised. It seems I couldn't ride Splash Mountain without coming across a friend.
Here is a rundown on the park dates:
Thursday June 4th Animal Kingdom
Friday June 5th Disney's Hollywood Studios
Saturday June 6th Magic Kingdom
Sunday June 7th Epcot
Bring 4 red shirts as the crowd goes red every day.

do you have a link to confirm the truth? I'd like to read it and see what the deal is.
I think it's quite obvious at this point...when you look at the huge cluster last year during gay days at PI, then the closing of PI, and now this, it's obvious Disney is trying to get away from the reputation of being a good place to party.
Gee, it's a good thing the economy is doing so well and they are making such high profits that they can just throw revenue out the window.

Good day everyone. Please read this post before flaming me.
I recently discovered that my children's first visit to Disney World will be during Gay Days. At first I didn't think much of it since I've been to other attractions and such where there were gay groups attending. But then I've heard horror stories from both straight and gay friends about outlandish behavior during this time.
For those who've been on this trip before, could you confirm/deny any of this?
wdwinfo.com/disney-gay-days.htm
I am really hoping not to see raunchy public displays of affection by either straight or gay couples. I am really hoping not to see Fred Phelps type Christians making a spectacles of themselves in protest.
What I hope to see are well behaved, respectful, normal people attending Disney as friends, couples, and families - gay or straight!
Please let me know what to expect! :confused3

Hi, Straight Family Guy! Welcome to our little corner of the DIS!
Thank you for not automatically assuming the worse about Gay Days and taking the time to ask about it first. We appreciate that!
The article you reference above was written several years ago, and it does not match what I've seen the past few years at Gay Days.
I've been to every Gay Days since 2003. In my experience, you won't see anything more or less inappropriate than you'd see any other time of the year. It's just that the couple holding hands or kissing each other might happen to be of the same gender. I've never seen anyone in the GLBT crowd who came close to what I've seen some straight teenagers doing in the parks.
Sadly, every group will have people who don't behave themselves. Please don't judge all of us by them, any more than you'd want to be judged by the way other straight people act. Just ignore them, and move on. It's what we tend to do.
I would say to avoid Magic Kingdom on Saturday, because it's going to be very crowded.
I hope this helps you. Please feel free to ask any specific questions or continue this discussion as you need to. We've got a great group of people on this board, and they'll be happy to help you in whatever way we can!
OrlandoMike

Just a tip....
In the years past, the MK on Saturday is pretty much DEAD after 3:00pm because most people leave to head to the evening events.
Now that Pleasure Island is "toned down", not sure how this will play out, but it's worth giving it a shot!

Straight Family Guy:
As a gay man I decided to check out gay days in both 2007 and 2008. What was all the hubbubb, I thought?
The only thing I found outlandish were the expressions on the red shirts. (Simply wearing a red shirt isn't enough these days, I suppose. You need to have on that red shirt some kind of cutesy, quippy, shocking and/or double entendre expression.)
One woman whose hair was very, very short, apparently, from what her shirt said, was inviting me to "read her lips." The funny thing was that neither she nor those with her were deaf. They communicated with each other verbally, too, not with sign language.
A man in a red shirt and very, very tight shorts, was wearing a shirt that said, "Team Princess." The funny thing was that during the afternoon parade, where I stood just a few feet from him, none of his team members joined him. Where was this team he was advertising?
Another woman whose hair was also very, very short was wearing a shirt that said, "No -uff too tough." I thought it odd that she was concerned about earmuffs in Florida where they're not needed any time of the year. Maybe the gal was from New England? And what was she going to do with those muffs? Tear them apart? Tenderize them?
Finally, a very, very thin man whose hair was a color you don't normally find in nature was wearing a shirt that was telling me he was having some kind of a party in one particular item of clothing he was wearing, and inviting me to attend that party. Now, I've gone to parties inside of buildings, but not inside of articles of clothing.
These are just 4 examples--I have a list of about 50 red shirt expressions somewhere. If I were going to gay days this year I'm sure I'd be adding to that list.
If your children are old enough to read, and you attend gay days at any given park, you may have, as Desi Arnez said, "some 'splaining to do."

Bring your friend!
2 of my friends (met on the dance floor of 8-TRAXX last year LOL) will probably be joining us as well :thumbsup2
(It's Randy and Shane in the old Gaydays photo thread if anyone remembers it LOL)
I'm pretty sure he'll have other plans. I haven't decided if I'm going to go to the parties he's going to or not.

Hi all,
Is Gay Day in Anaheim the same day as in Orlando. I read that it is the first Saturday in June, but is that Anaheim or Orlando. I live in California.
Thank you so much!

Hello,
My fam (wife and young daughter) are going to disneyworld during gay week.
We're liberal, have friends in "the family."
Should we wear red shirts to show support, or would that be poser of us?
Thanks!
T
My sons and I wil be there at this time too and we are planning on wearing red shirts in support too!!:goodvibes

I stopped by Atlantic Dance to talk to the manager about what they are doing during gay days(I work there occasionally) She said Thursday night they have requested a house oriented DJ and he will have a lot of freedom to play to the typical mannequins crowd. It will be no cover as usual and there will be 2 bars open. She also had them put out an email to let the DJs for the other nights know to bring techno because they will be getting lots of requests. Because of that, and because I"m already spending 45 dollars on the Motion ticket on Saturday, I'm thinking of going to ADH on Thursday. I encourage everyone to think about going there to show that we will support techno when they choose to play it. Of course Disney is not promoting it AT ALL, so it's left up to us to get the word out

I'm just trying to get the word out everywhere. You don't understand how much I've wanted a techno night at Atlantic Dance and I'm gonna do my part to make sure those who are interested at least know about it
