Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!

New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Hey, I can keep up now - there are only 2 other posts. Hi folks!

Rest day today. Yahoo! Cold front moved in. High only in the mid 60's. (LR yesterday ended with 85 degrees and 80% humidity) We get to wear long pants, make Chili and cornbead.... What a great day :)

enjoy,

Hey everyone!!!
Good morning to you.

Hey Duane: Got up this morning and it was 64degrees!! I had on a longsleeve tech shirt and capris!! Hot chocolate maybe on tap!! Just alittle bit breezy for me, but hey, I'll take the open the windows/no A/C anytime!!

AFM: Did my 9 miles this morning as part of my training for the WDW Half Marathon. Took it easy and steady. Tried the jog every 10 min and it worked well. Not feeling too bad. GOt home and sat in my cold outdoor pool for 15 min - kinda like an ice bath.
Saw movie, Journey to the Center of the Earth. $.99, was very good for the price.

On tap for today is .... laundry, Miami Dolphins Football and Final NASCAR race of the season.

Have a great Sunday wishers!!

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!!!!

Story of my life, I have been doing "drive by" reading lately. Work has me on the road a LOT and I am just behind!

I did MY FIRST HALF today. I am truly kind of in shock! I am 48 years old. I NEVER thought in my wildest dreams I would do a half (even using the Galloway walk/run method) I posted a report on the event thread.

I think I get a few days off to recover. Heck my legs are already stiff! LOL!

Have a good week everyone!

Carol Yeah for you! Great job and sorry about no bling--it's funny what the promise of a medal can do for your motivation or satisfaction with your experience. I actually tracked down a medal from a recent race after one month of waiting for it to arrive!

Tracy and Duane I can actually say I prefer the 32 degrees, wind (not too bad) and snow spitting that I had for my 7 miler earlier today. I get really warm when I run--I probably would have felt fine in shorts and a tee by the time I was done!

So rest for me now and some football--as my son said "Who are the Lions going to lose to this week!"

Even though it got 2 degrees cooler when I was finished I had my long sleeves rolled up. I quickly cooled down though.

CarolA:  :cheer2: :cheer2: CONGRATULATIONS! :cheer2: :cheer2:
Especially being your FIRST completion of a Half Marathon!! OK you need more smilies...

I think when you do finally get your bling at WDW, you may get alittle teary eyed again. I remember doing my first Half at WDW 2 years ago and they "supposedly" ran out of medals. I was VERY upset, but they "found" them. Keep moving around today, don't want to stiffen up to much.
Congratulations again a big  from all the team!:grouphug:

Tracy: Oh goodie so there is hope on Thanksgiving day...if I can get off my bum and go run! I saw the shuttle go up a few years ago. It was so cool because it goes from pitch black (it launched at 4:55am) and then it got bright as noon. Definitely worth a trip to go see. I can't wait til the race! Gee if I remember right it wasn't too bright though it certainly was early! Hope you have a good 9 miler! Start doing the "No Rain" Dance now!

Carol: :woohoo: Great job on the 1/2! Be sure to keep moving, it will help keep you from getting too stiff.

It is COLD here--down in the low forties with humidity and wind (yes I know all you northerners are laughing). Friday it was up in the upper 70's. Crazy weather.

I had a nice 60 min run today and I certainly didnt get too sweaty!

Tracy & Claire, great training.

AFM: I did a 13 miler this morning. Cool and overcast, a little drizzle.

Heading out to watch the Winter League Baseball Championship this afternoon. Hopefully the rains hold off.

Have a great day Team.

Hi everyone! Another chilly day here - about 35F. I had a really bad sinus headache this morning so I missed my LR :( I took two Tylenol pills hoping it would go away, no such luck. If I add an extra mile or two onto each run I do this week, will that make up for the 8 miles I missed today? I have a 10K race next Sunday so my next LR won't be for another two weeks. I'm more disappointed that I won't get to record the miles.

Carol - Congrats on your first 1/2!! I'm off to read your race report!

Tracy - Very cute commercial! The bugs on the woman's teeth was a little gross ;)

Duane/Claire - I'm jealous of the "warm" weather :) I am not looking forward to the day when I'll have to wear my running tights - that won't be a pretty sight!

Jeff - WTG on the 13 miles! I'm always really impressed by how much running you do!

Kim - Is the snow sticking on the ground up north? We had a few flakes here in the afternoon but everything's melting.

Have a great day everyone!

Here I am!

Sorry, WISH friends, for my disappearance, and thank you RaceyTracy for finding me. :-)

I did two walking events in October--a 5 miler and a 5K, both untimed for charity. I felt bad bad bad from the car accident for several days afterward (that was six weeks ago) and had a severe headache for a couple days, but I pushed through to do that 5 miler.

However, my training has sucked. I admit it. I got a grant for my students for the month for a special project and that has meant more time, and then the end of the quarter sucks up all my time, and DH said if the credit card is paid off we can buy DVC so I've needed to put time into my side business to make some cash.

Anyway, here I am now. DH and I walked a few miles this afternoon but it was cold and so windy it was hard to breathe. I'll be back on the wagon this week, especially since I have no real choice--January will be here before we know it!

I'll be back later this week. Hugs to all my WISH friends!

Hey everyone. Well it has been freezing cold the last couple days. Yesterday I did just over 7+ miles and today I did 17+ miles out in the upper 20's with a wind chill in the lower 20's. Todays really kicked my rear. :tiptoe: I did get to enjoy a few flurries during runing and for whatever reason I laugh every time it snows while I'm running.

Congrats to CarolA for finsihing her first Half. That's awesome! :cool1: :dance3: :cheer2:

So jealous of the South's "Cold" temps.

Tomorrow is back to work and a much needed rest day. Hope I can stay awake at work. :rolleyes1

Duckie: Hey girl :wave2: Nice to see you around. Sorry you've been so busy and unable to hang on the boards. Thanks for coming back and checking in.
Glad to hear you starting to get back to training, I don't want to see you passing out during the races in Jan!!!

Duane: that's funny about you laughing when it snows. Reminds me that I always laugh on Space Mountain. Hehe. I guess your Goofy training is coming along nicely. RIght now it's 59 degrees and will dip down to 50 tonight.

Rest Day for me tomorrow. We are having a potluck Thanksgiving lunch at the office!! Just a staff thing. Should be fun. I made cucumber and onions - grandma's recipe.

Hi Team!

CarolA - Congratulations on your first 1/2!!!:thumbsup2  :cheer2:

Tracy - Cucumber and onions?? Sounds.....interesting. I do like cucumber.

Jeff - What? Only 13 miles? The 13 miles didn't magically turn into 26? Or wait...I know, you had only planned on doing 3 miles and it turned into 13, right? :rotfl: :lmao:  ;)

AFM...I was able to get to the gym tonight. 30 minutes of weights and 35 minutes on the treadmill. Not bad. I wish it would cool off around here. We have been in the 80's. Come on winter...I like to run in the rain!

Yeah, I know, I was slacking. Actually, since the Honolulu Marathon is just 4 weeks away, it's time to lower the mileage and decrease the pace. Let all the muscles recover from the micro-tears.

I'll see what I feel like doing next Sunday. Possibly 16.

Vicky, I usually average 40 miles a week, give or take.

lilouisianagal: WTG on your 60 min run!!

Jeff: WTG on your run...but have to ask. What is your idea of cool:laughing: we have almost a foot of snow:scared1:

Vicky: Where is your 10K??? Good luck and hope you are feeling better. We have almost a foot of snow and it is staying on the grass but not on the roads which is good

MsDuck: Hi and congrats on getting out there!!

Goofy: Awesome workouts

Mia: Great workouts as well.

AFM: Have been sick all weekend and am taking today off work....just getting the hot and cold spells so will stay home today and hope it is finally the end of it. My deal friend PrincessRunner has emailed me a training program and will start it tomorrow so along with my 1/2 training all should be good for January!!!!

Tracy: Funny commercial! The nun is my fav, but the words are a great touch!

Chris: 20's??? I'm turning blue just thinking about it.

I wonder if you burn more calories in cold weather just trying to stay warm? One perk for all you northerners!

I did my short run with sprints today. Still a bit nippy out there (okay in the lower 40's). Oh I am so ready for Thanksgiving....or better yet Christmas! (more to do with the lack of classes than the holidays)

G-G-Good monring people. They shut the heat off at work for the long weekend and it takes a full day at least to get it going again, so I am sitting here with my winter coat on in about a 60 degree office!!

Duckie Happy to see you back, even if it is for a quick post. Hope your training kicks up soon.

Did XT today--although something more cardio would at least have elevated my core temp and I would be so freezing! Might be time to take the laptop home and work.

Hi everyone! I have a training session tonight so I'm off to the gym - no running until tomorrow.

Kim - I think it's the Whitby Waterfront race. Keep your fingers crossed that the snow stays away for one more weekend :) Hope you're feeling better today!

Maura - Sounds like my office. I usually keep a mug full of tea on my desk just so I can keep my hands warm!

Jeff - 40 miles/week! Wow!

Have a great day everyone! Keep warm :)

Hello everyone!

Quick run by as work is..well, being work-y today.

Duckie - There you are!! Kept meaning to holler at ou two. Glad you're finally feeling better. BTW, I'm doing the full instead of the half in Jan. Yes, you can yell at me anytime you'd like. :rotfl:

Tracy - hmm, 64 yesterday? Better than double what it was here when I went out. Cloudy, windy and 30. Think I put on too many layers as was sweating at the end of 14 miles but still trying to figure it out.

Hope everyone feeling under the weather gets better soon; WTG for all those getting in the steps!!

BTW, thanks to everyone's tips for warming up after a cold weather run/walk. Helped alot yesterday - didn't cool down as fast and did not start shivering either. Although the two guys in the parking lot looked at me like I was nuts when I pulled off my vest and tech shirts to pull sweatshirt on. :scared1:

Also very happy to report that after doing 14 miler yesterday I can still walk and get up/down stairs today. This is the longest distance I've done so far so this is a definite plus.

Have a great day!!

Sorry for the total drive-by (again!)! :moped:

Just back from 5 miles with Mom. We finished in 1:13:16 - all walking. Considering the cold weather, I think we did great. Normally, I would chicken out & head for the indoor track. But Mom doesn't belong to the Y and a guest pass is $10! So, we braved the cold and did well.

Now, off to get allergy shots & hit the grocery store before picking up the rugrat...

Hockeychic: I am one of a few (if not the only) one on this boards that follows a program by the about.walking.com website by Wendy Bumgardner (Certified Marathon Coach -RRCA). I found this program when I did my first half marathon. It works well with my schedule and got me through the race. I do not do the 14 miles on that day I just do 13.10.

I do 4 miles on Tuesday, Thursday and either Friday or Saturday. SUnday in my long days...
Next Sunday is 10 miles then...
8miles, 12miles, 8miles, 13.10, 6miles, 6miles then the race!!

Here is a link http://walking.about.com/cs/marathontraining/l/blhalfmarathon.htm

Hope that helps.

AFM: its a rest day for me. Right now it's 62degrees and beautiful here in South Florida!!. Found out some more bad news about my uncle in CA. He is in the hospital again and now he has MRSA in his bloodstream and his kidneys are starting to loose function. If things get worse and such, I may find myself flying back out to CA with my Dad.
If for some reason you don't see me posting for a few days you will know why.

So, I emailed the Turkey Trot people several days ago to ask if strollers are allowed in the race, and haven't received a reply. There isn't any other contact info, so I can't call and ask.

What should I do? I know turkey trots are usually family-friendly, but I'd hate to show up and then not be able to run. It's possible that I could get Mom to watch DS while DH and I run the race. Maybe that's the best option, but I was hoping to be able to bring him along!

Ang, it's a fun run, I'd go with the jogger stroller. Just stay in the back.

As for me, 8 miles at a 8:17 average pace. Despite blustery tradewinds. Strong headwinds going out, and favorable downwinds on the return. Excellent run.

Hope everyone's training is on track for January. 52 days until the half, 53 for the full.

Hi everyone! I went out for a 3 miler last night. It was really chilly so maybe that was the motivation I needed to move faster. Anyway, I managed an average pace of 10.15 m/m which is my fastest so far! I also ran in my new Kayano 14s and they were great! Really comfy!

I'm back out tonight for a 35 minute tempo run. I'm not exactly sure how to do a tempo run. Can anyone give me some ideas? Am I just running faster than I normally would for about 25 minutes with a 5 minute warm up and 5 minute cool down?

Jeff - Wow! So we're less than 2 months away ... I have a feeling that December is just going to fly by!

Maura - Sorry to hear about your IT band problems. Those are no fun :( Have you tried a sports massage or ART before?

Ang - Have fun at the Turkey Trot run :) Hope you're allowed to bring the jogging stroller!

Lily - It's chilly here too! The forecast is calling for snow here too but I'm hoping it will hold off until later tonight. Or at least stay to the areas north of us :)

Maura -

I'm having such awful ITB issues that I saw my orthopedic surgon Monday just so I could get a prescript for PT. I'm calling today to schedule my first session. I've been stretching and foam rolling but apparently I'm doing doing it right because it doesn't seem to be helping.

Maura

Maura & Judy,

Roll your hip on either a foam roller, or a used soft tennis ball. You'll feel a lot better.

Do a search on IT Band or foam roller on youtube.com . A few trainers or physical therapists have posted videos online.

Thanks for all the IT words of wisdom. Sad to say I have done everything everyone has mentioned and then some--exercises, foam rollers, Therabands, stretches, massage, IT band strap. Just when I though I had it lickes, it has come back. Since mine is apparently caused by a weak hip, I'll have to see if the doc can recommend something else.

Maura - ART stands for Active Release Therapy. I'm not sure how to describe it exactly. For the treatments I had done, it reminded me of a combination of stretching and a massage. Some of the treatments were really easy like the knees... but some were really painful - hip/piriformis and shins. But after all of them I felt a million times better. Check out this website, they probably have a better explanation and you can find a practitioner in your area. http://www.activerelease.com

Carrie - Is your Garmin toast or did the battery just die? Btw, did not know that about cold weather running and calories :)

wtpclc
11-19-2008, 02:27 PM
VIcky - Just a dead battery. I only started with six hours and forgot to turn it off post-race. SHould have worded that better.

MouseDogMom
11-19-2008, 06:19 PM
Maura - I saw a chiropractor who did ART and did wonders for my PF. But it was my sports massage therapist who actually explained it to me. Like Vicky said, it's similar to massage, but you are actually moving the muscle while they're working it - hence the "active" part of active release therapy, and what makes it different from traditional massage/therapy. I solved my IT band issues by taking 2 months off, but it's a little late now for that solution! Good luck!

Jeff - And if our training's not on track, what do you suggest? I'm only at 16 miles for the full, and due to scheduling conflicts this weekend may not be able to get a LR in at all for the 2nd weekend in a row. No, I'm not panicking or anything... :scared1:

Judy - Nope, you're not getting old. Can't be that. Next suggestion? :scratchin

Lily - Cold here too. :cold: We had snow flurries yesterday, and NC does NOT see snow in November! I'm almost glad that I've been sick and had an excuse not to run, cause I'm not ready to tackle 30 degree weather yet!

Tracy - :grouphug: More thoughts and prayers for your uncle. Any update?

As for me - nothing to report! DD brought home "band kid disease" and generously shared it with DH and me. I've been sick  since last Wednesday - went to the doc yesterday and got some killer cough syrup which is definitely brightening my outlook! Saturday DD's band marches in the Christmas parade, and DH and I are supposed to chaperone and walk with them, so I'll get to do a 2 mile walk - pretty lousy mileage when I should be at 23 with my Galloway group that morning!

...I've had a foam roller since before foam rollers were cool. Ain't helping...Uh oh, I was on my way to Dicks Sporting Goods to p/u a foam roller on one of our next journeys. I may still give it a whirl. Get it, give it a whirl...oh well, I guess it won't be cute as I'm trying to figure out how to get myself rolling about.

Jackie

Jackie, I'm not Jeff -- I don't even play him on TV, but I wouldn't worry too much about a missed long run. If you're still on for the "20 on the 20th" -- or planning to get that in with your Galloway group, you're going to be fine. It is the rare marathoner that doesn't miss a long run or two sometime during their training. It may mean your marathon is not as pretty as you would have liked (more walking or whatever), but you can do it -- and hey, stopping for all those photos is going to mess up any PR you had planned anyway, right? ;)

Seriously, good solid training generally means a faster pace and a more comfortable raceday. Less than stellar training usually means dealing with a little discomfort and a slower pace, but the race is still doable -- and training ain't over yet! You've still got some weeks to get in some long ones. Get well and enjoy the weekend with your band kid.

P.S. Just my 2 cents, but this comes from a lady who did a marathon 6 weeks after a c-section on virtually no training. It wasn't fun, it wasn't pretty, and it took a long time, but I did it. I don't recommend skipping long runs, but I wouldn't worry a ton about something you can't help either.

jmasgat

Vicky and Jackie Thanks for the ART explanation. Turns out the guy I went to have my video gait analysis is also a PT who does ART (not to mention having an "off" marathon of 2:18 at the Freep!) When I vist my doctor in a week or so, I may ask for a PT scrip and go back to him.

Wendy A marathon? after a C-section? 6 weeks? seriously? WOW! you must be one strong, pain-intolerant, or crazy person!

Just touching on some stuff I forgot yesterday adn have a good storyto share.

Maura - I hope you can find somethign that helps teh PF. time off maybe? I know it''s hard now, but you have the base to be able to afford it.

Liz - Scott saw an ad for a blanket that pllugs into your cigarrette ligher the other day. Maybe that would help too.

AFM: Had a stonker first run back yesterday, but good stuff came out of it. This is for everyone who feels inferior because they are slow.

So we are running on the indoor track last night and this guy who's all muscle starts running too. Of course, he's passing us like we were standing still. ALways makes me feel bad, even though I know I should be proud of myself. He finishes and starts walking with his wife. As we pass, he asks, "Aren't you guys ever gonna' stop?" We laughed and said we were really close (less than a minute). His wife says, "DOn't you recognize them, they run in front of our house all the time." DOn't think we were suppoed to hear that. We were both flyign afterwords. Scott was commenting that that was one of the nicest compliments we had ever gotten. Comming from someone who blew us away speedwise, it just felt so good. Then, to hear that the wife isn't surprised because she sees us runnign all teh time, just solidified it more. Very cool. We thought it was even funnier because we only did a 40 min run last night. Shortest run we do these days. Felt really good!

Good morning everyone! I didn't make it out last night :( There was quite a bit of snow by the time I got to DF's house. I'm going to head over to my running store today to see if I can get something to winterize my running shoes. That way I won't have to skip tonight's run.

Carrie - That's a great story! And I think you should feel proud :) If it makes you feel any better, DF and I use to get passed all time in the summer by a couple that was at least 20 years older than us. Now that made us feel slow!

Wendy - Wow! 6 weeks after a C-section!

Jackie - Hope you feel better soon!

Maura - Let us know if you're able to see a PT and how the ART goes!

Have a great day everyone!

Vicky - We have Yak Tracks (trax?). Great in snow. SUpposed to be good in ice too, but we don't like to push it on ice.

Jackie - We have bene ok when we didn't finish our max run of 20 or our 18-milers. You don't want to skip too much, but 1 missed lR will not hurt you. Better to let your body recover from being sick than to push it and get the miles in.

Carrie - Do you have trouble keeping snow off/out of your shoes? Along with slipping, I was also afraid of coming back with soaking feet...

Morning Team!

Today is a rest day for me. Thank goodness. Got in 6 miles yesterday and 4 on Tuesday. Really cold and it's making it more difficult to get outside. I mentally am making myself do it, but I don't want to.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hey everyone!

Quick fly by here.

Maura - hope you can find something to take care of that.

Wendy - wow....that's all I've got to say...wow....

Carrie - Did pretty well on the warming up Sunday so may have this figured out, sorta. Going to look into the Yak Trax as will need something for more traction. I agree on the ice though - that means stay inside.

Big HELLO to all!

Took last night off. Doing big weight work out day after long walk was not a good idea. Tuesday has sore and annoyed leg muscles while on TM so decided to rest yesterday. Today is bike and core then out tomorrow for 16 miles. Going to be in NY over the weekend so had to move it. Just hoping I'm not too sore on the plane!

Have a great day!

HI Everyone!

I am in lovely Lake Tahoe. It really is BEAUTIFUL here. I went for a short run this morning. Of course I didn't think about the fact that it's a LOT higher here the Atlanta so it did kind of take something out of me.

Jeff's countdown is making me nervous. I am trying to figure out how to keep on track. My Galloway group ends this week. So that means I have to motivate myself to do the longer runs! YIKES!

Carrie, that was a great story!

Carol - Wish you were closer (or traveling in this area). Our Galloway group continues through the 7th of December, but after that I'm on my own too! Leaves a lot of runs between now and Disney. And I think Jeff's trying to see how crazy he can make us... his countdowns are not making me happy. :scared:

Carrie - Love the story!

Wendy - Thanks for all the encouraging words. I'm definitely on for 20 on the 20th, and I have to keep reminding myself of that. If I do that I really should be okay. I already know this marathon won't be as pretty as I'd like, but I imagine it will be my one and only full so time really won't matter!

The magic cough syrup is working, and I'm almost back to normal. I think I'd feel like running this weekend if I weren't parading instead!

Hey guys, Happy Thursday...

Lily: Your brave for getting out in the snow.

Angie: I would try taking the stroller and just hang in the back.

Maura: IT issues, ART, gait analysis, how's it going, have you started to slack?

Vicky: Nice 3 miles run in the chilly weather.

Jackie: "band kid disease"? Not sure if I have ever heard of that or if I ever hand it. Being in band for about 12years, maybe its a new strain or something. Glad to hear the magic cough med is working for you. Marching in the Christmas Parade - cool!! If you march along you'll get some good XT in.

Wendy: C-Section, Marathon, ............WOW!:worship:

Carrie: Cool on the lady's comment about you at the gym!!I'm sure that bumped your self-esteem up a few notches!!

Chris: Hang in there with getting out in the chilly weather!

AFM: I just want to say a big THANKS:thanks: to everyone who asked about my uncle and are saying a prayer for him. I have not had any updates since the 18th. He is still in the hospital, trying to get the kidneys going, getting the infections under control and keeping the liver bile draining. You guys are awesome!!:grouphug:
DId a good 5 miles this morning. I had 4 on the training schedule but added in another mile since weather was gorgeous at 55!! That's right 55 in Sunny South Florida. I am off to a gmae watching party. My Canes versus GA Tech - GO CANES!!!!

Aloha Jeff, Liz, Mel, AmyBeth, ScoJo, MsMightyDuck :wave2: and everyone else I missed.

Take care everyone,

Total drive-by, again. Sorry!

I got 3 miles in today on the track. Nothing fancy, just got 'em done.
Was depressing though. I felt ok, thought my running intervals were pretty speedy for me.
THEN, Chad would fly by me. Like he was out for an easy stroll or something.
How depressing. His final mile was 6:something.

Went up to the running store in Manchester.
Picked up new shoes for Chad and socks for both of us. They gave us running gloves for free.
And since they rang my Mom's debit card through twice, the owner gave me the "26.2" car magnet that I was buying for Chad, for free!
I love that place.

Wendy - all I have to say is: :worship:

Happy Friday everyone! I ran 3.5 miles last night. I went pretty slowly because the sidewalks were still icy. And naturally, what would one of my runs be like without a little drama... DF and I were at a four way stop. We looked to see that the intersection was clear for us to cross and so we started walking. We were nearly in the middle when a car just stopped in front of us with inches to spare. The only reason he didn't us was because we stopped and jumped backwards. As I was yelling at him, I noticed that he had only used his wipers to clear a section of his windshield. So he probably didn't even see us. :sad2:  I thought afterward that I should have jotted down his license plate since he didn't really stop at the intersection but I'm not sure that would have done much good.

Tracy - More :wizard: for your uncle!

Carrie - Picked up some Yak Trax yesterday but was told they're only good on snow. They felt weird to run on. I also bought a pair of rubber grips for ice - I think they're called Ice & Snow but I didn't have a chance to try them out yet.

joan4mickey - WTG on the 25 miles this week :cheer2:

Kristi - Woo-hoo! Free running gloves!! I wish my running store had freebies like that!

Jackie - Hope you feel better soon!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Total drive by for me - I got back on Wednesday from a 5 night trip to the Florida Keys with Homestead NASCAR championship weekend stuck in the middle. I have totally sucked on my training since my half and actually am thinking of skipping out of my scheduled 15 miler tomorrow AM for Turkey Trot 5k in my town. I have been wanting to do it for the past 2 years (since I started running) but the NASCAR weekend normally fell on the same weekend. This will be the only Turkey Trot I will be able to do since next year the NASCAR weekend is back to normal and will be the weekend before Thanksgiving. I will have to try and fit in at least 13 miles sometime this weekend.

When I was in the Keys I was scheduled to do a 13 mile training run/walk but that didn't happen. I did manage to get a 3.5 mile run in and a 4 mile run/walk This was supposed to be my 13 miler but when I started out I was wearing long sleeves and pants and I started to get too hot and I saw a few scary people on the side of the road and I didn't feel like turning around and going back toward my resort. My DH called about that time and I told him to come pick me up - I kept walking about another 1/2 mile before I stopped to wait for him to pull up. I managed to do about 3 miles on the TM on Wednesday when I got home and nothing yesterday.

I can't believe we only have 51 days till we do this thing!! YIKES

Life is so crazy! :scared:

But, I did get in 18 miles this week, average pace was 10:57 so I guess it was better than last week. :thumbsup2

This morning I ran an 8 miler and felt pretty good, but my bad knee felt kinda weak the last mile. I came in and put ice on it and I'm OK right now.

Boy, it sure was a cold week. I really am not a cold weather person. That is for sure!

If I don't get back on I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. DH and I will be running a 10K Thursday morning and I'm hoping to beat last year's time. Wish me luck!

Hugs all my fellow WISHers. I'm THANKFUL to have you! :grouphug:

Have to admit i haven't scrolled through all the posts, just can't keep up :rotfl:

Long story short, we spent 3 hours in the emergency room Friday night.

Princess #2 slipped and fell on the kitchen floor (ceramic tile), and split open her chin. 10 stitches.

The floor won that battle.

Ice cream sundae at midnight made everything better.

Like a good daddy, I have photos if anyone wants to see the doctor and nurse in action. LOL.

Jeff Ouch for your princess! I hope she's doing okay. Reminds me of my 7th birthday party, which had to be cut short after I slipped and cut near my eye--spending your birthday--or any day-- in the emergency room getting stitiches is no fun. Still have the scar, and the occasional story to tell! (Mostly to my sister, since I was walking in slippers she made for me when it happened!)

The grief my wife gave me last night. See, twice I had accidents as a kid that resulted in stitches in my chin.

The first was a bike accident, racing my brother home from the candy store. I was in third grade. I hit a metal pole, and wiped out on the sidewalk. About 10 stitches.

The second time I was a ice skating accident, while goofing off with friends. I was in my senior year of high school. 33 stitches, plus I lost a tooth.

So last night in the emergency room, my wife says to the doctor and nurse. "Like father, like daughter."

She's awake now, asking for pancake breakfast. She gets a hall pass from ballet class today, and going to Build a Bear to get a new friend.

The Santa pictures we planned to take today, will be delayed at least a week.

Hi All,
Haven't posted in a while but it's getting closer so I'll start posting more. I do apologize, I haven't had a chance to go back and read all the other posts - hope all is well.

Did my 42 miles this week. I did 8 Friday night and 18 this morning. I'll tell you, this running the night before a long run really wears on me the next day.

It was pretty cold this morning so I didn't go out until 7:00 when it warmed up to 49. I wore long pants and a running jacket for the first time. Luckily I bought a nice long running outfit int he summer on sale.

Take care everyone,
Duane

Yep yep, bouncy tigger all the way! Do you not have any bright orange running jackets? That would be perfect. I can't see how i'd ever be able to run a marathon- how's your training going? Still have a toronto place as they kindly deferred it for me, but will see what's on nearer the time. It's be lovely to see you again.

A young man named John received a parrot as an early Christmas gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.

John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to 'clean up' the bird's vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back.

John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hands, grabbed the bird and shoved him in the freezer.

For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer.

The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arm and said 'I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior.'

John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued....

........"May I inquire as to what the turkey did?'
