Ugh. Slackers.
Sorry you had such a garbage day, OrlandoMike!
It was a great day on the steps of City Hall! Take that to work and smack the next slacker you have to deal with over the head with it!

There is one thing I don't miss in my current job in comparison to my old job, managing people.
I was a fair manager, but I expected you to do your job, and in my tenure I made a few people cry because I called them out on their "whining" and lack of work ethic and even fired a few. However, if you did what you were suppose to, busted your butt, I made sure you got the recognition and renumeration you deserved.
But dealing with the drama was just so annoying.

Wow, a Joan Crawford thread! I love Joan. When I see the letters WWJD, I automatically think "What Would Joan Do?"
Joan was a fighter and is a huge inspiration for me. Hang in there, Mike. Just remember that "discipline, mixed with love, is such a good recipe" and that this ain't your first time at the rodeo!

There were 2 incidents we encountered at WDW lounges/bars that really made the level of stress put upon the cast members really apparent.
1. When I accidentally went to the wrong resort/lounge to look for you, I asked the guy working behind the bar if you were working that night, and it was extremely obvious that he was not in a good mood. (Apparently there was a Mike that worked at this location as well because he just acted like he knew who I was talking about.) When he told me "Mike" wasn't working that night I asked if he knew what your schedule was, but he just sighed as if I was bothering him and said, "No". It was kind of strange that I was only 1 of 2 guests in the bar, but he acted like he just wanted nothing to do with me.
2. The 2nd incident was at a bar that is right outside of a popular restaurant (that I'll also keep nameless ;) for obvious reasons) where lots of guests go to get a drink while they wait for a table. There was a guest who was insanely upset at the "poor" level of customer service she was getting at the resort. She was loud and used profanity to her friend about her dissatisfaction, and sat next to me in order to get a drink at the bar. The bartender asked her how she was doing, and she started her verbal rampage of how dissatisfied she was. You could tell the bartender didn't care whatsoever because he pretended to listen for about 3 seconds and then said, "I'll be back" as he was walking around to the other side of the bar while the woman was in mid-sentence. This caused the woman to get even more upset, and it turned into a small "scene" that wasn't pleasant. It was extremely obvious that all 3 of the bartenders who were behind bar were not in a good mood, and that 1 of them was upset at one of the other bartenders because of their "I'm not talking to you" attitude when they encountered one another. Needless to say, there were several people sitting at the bar who were not happy. (Scowls and shaking heads is never a good thing.)
Working in this type of environment would have to be extremely difficult, and I have to give credit to you for being able to deal with all walks of life in crowded situations, especially when guests are having temper tantrums. I'm not saying that what the bartenders did was right, but I do commend the fact that they do what they do. It would drive me insane. I worked at a Disney Store during '95 holiday season......and I almost died. :lmao:

You guys never fail to crack me up after a bad day! :rotfl2: :thumbsup2
Actually, once I got there, and got out from behind the 8 ball of getting there late, it was a decent day.
It just gets annoying at the same old phone call day after day...

It always amazes me when people in the service industry
seem to overlook the service part. :sad2:
Usually far from true at WDW.
And yes I have worked in said industry. :)

Same here! I wouldn't know a soap star if I fell over one. :confused3
I do know it's the last year for Super Soap Weekend though. Given the number of people who do like this event, why is it ending? Does anyone know?
OrlandoMike, interesting on the squelching of the quasi political comments at the event. Patty Sheehan, Councilwoman made it a point to state that WDW and Blue Cross Blue Shield were strong supporters of Gay rights.
I do kind of understand the "redirecting" of the conversation though. Folks are there to be entertained and awed by their chosen celebrities, not to hear political comments (regardless of how much I think they may need to! ). They are in fantasyland, eh? As it should be at WDW.

Is it ending? I thought they were just going to rotate venues, like Disneyland, Vegas etc...

Oh geez. I don't know! My sister (who is a total soap freak) was wicked disappointed because she couldn't make it down this year for the "last super soap weekend ever" (her words). I do remembering hearing or reading (clearly don't remember too well LOL ) that it was the last one. I didn't hear anything about rotation.

Isn't Susan Lucci always going to be at WDW seeing as how she's the first real audio-animatronic and all?

I don't drink much, but I did cruise through the bar (at the RIGHT resort) looking for Mike. I found out later he was on vacation the exact days we were booked at his resort. :sad2:
Since I don't spend much time at the bar I can't say anything about the level of service. We did see 2 waitresses get into a fight (verbal) at 'Ohana, and I saw some rather disgruntled gift shop CMs at either AK or MGM (can't remember now). They were ignoring me and griping to each other.

Well.......at least you went to the right bar. :lmao: I wasn't even close. I want to meet Mike too. Something tells me we'd be talking about Cedar Point and drum corps for about 5 hours. :) Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Wow! I've never seen an actual verbal fight between cast members at WDW. I did, however, see numerous cast members who had the look of "I will bite your face off if you so much as ask me for a cup of coffee" on their faces. I'd love to be a cast member, but I can understand that putting up with people who expect perfection 101% of the time can wear a person down.....big time.

I actually got shoved one time by an angry female CM at EPCOT. They were organizing the crowd for the Tapestry of Nation's parade. (It was crazy crowded on December 31, 1999...Yep, I was there then) I guess she was just frustrated. I didn't have any prior interaction with her at all BEFORE the incident. I guess I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. lol.

We were one of the last breakfast seatings at 'Ohana. I woke up that morning feeling very ill, but that was the day we had to move from SSR to the Poly. Of course when we got to the Poly at 10 AM our room wasn't ready yet. We already had the ADR for breakfast, so we decided we might as well go so DS and DH could eat. The dining room was really clearing out by the time we finished. We were waiting for our waitress to come back with our receipt and 2 other waitresses got into it. One of them had the little Magna-Doodle seating chart thing, and the other one wasn't happy about something, so they were going round and round. :confused3
I had a CM at Soarin' snap at me once, but that wasn't on our most recent trip.
