Airplane crashes

I'm sure by now that most of you heard about the 2 planes crashing today! Does this make any of you rethink your decision to fly? I'm flying for the first time in about 7 years WITHOUT my son to Disney (I'm already feeling guilt about that) and then I see these 2 planes crash today!

Not only would I leave my son motherless but I'd also be doing it while being selfish going to Disney without him! I know it's crazy thinking but I don't know how to deal with these crashes today!

Anyone else neurotic???

We leave a week from today and we are flying. I have never flown before. I heard a little bit about the crashes on tv but made myself turn the channel. It does worry me. But I still firmly believe that we would be safer flying than driving.

As a frequent flyer, I know in my mind that the plane will arrive safely. Yes, things can happen, and yes, I do have a bit of anxiety before flying, but sometimes you have to get on that plane and think positive.

There have been and are far fewer plane crashes than either automobile accidents or train derailments.

Let's not forget that the two crashes were not American airlines(not the company, but in general). Foreign airlines, especially those not flying to the US, have less strict guidelines. I was involved in an in-air incident (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=200320) the other day but I will still fly. Plus, the reasons for the crashes on both were not weird and no one knows what caused them. They were fire and just a bad pilot who had trouble landing in bad weather.

... I mean, you could get in a wreck tomorrow, but you would still drive, right? Statistically, that is much more dangerous. . How many serious auto wrecks do you think may have happened yesterday, worldwide?

You heard about 2 planes that crashed, but do look at it the other way around; several thousand planes flew through our skies yesterday with no problems whatsoever, and hundreds of thousands of passengers safely reached their destinations. Airline travel is very safe.

This may not be very comforting... but keep in mind that statistically, the drive to the aiport is far more dangerous than the flight to Orlando. People die in car crashes daily, plan crashes are rare.
