Does anyone know what I can do with some medical equipment that we don't need anymore? DS used to have a trach and a vent so we have 2 suction machines and an air compresser (for use with a mist mask). I'm not sure what to do with these things because i'm not sure i can legally sell them because they are "prescription only". Any ideas? I'm sure there must be somewhere i could donate them to but I don't know where. We also have a ton of formula that i'm not sure what to do with. They keep switching DS's formula so we have cases leftover of Pediasure and Peptamen Jr.

Yahoo has a special needs equipment exchange/trade/etc group where you can post things. It's called special child exchange. HTH. Karen

If you donate them to hospice or hosparus it's now called they will see to it they go to a person in need with miniumal cost to the person.

Ooh, good to know. I'll look into that too!

It just seems like such a waste to have perfectly good equipment just sitting around when someone could be using it so I want to find them a good home.

There are also organizations that pass along used equipment. Here in Massachusetts we have a great organization called "Pass It ON" down on Cape Cod (presumably they might serve Rhode Island as well?). We have passed along potty seats, pediatric wheelchairs and a few other things, and received a special needs car seat (Gorilla), an adaptive bath seat and other adaptive seating for DS which insurance was not yet covering.

I expect there are similar organizations in other parts of the country. Of course, the Hospice idea sounds good too.

They are in Los Angeles and desperately need baby food and formula.

We are now accepting:

ü Infant formula

ü Jar foods – all flavors and stages

ü Crackers, teething biscuits, and cookies

ü Raisins & fruit snacks

ü Juices: jars, cans, pouches and boxes

ü Infant and children’s cereals

(For baby foods, glass jars are OK; otherwise, no glass please.)
=============================

I know of some rescue missions for adults but that one I have heard of and they as are most food banks are hurting right now. There are a lot of baby related organizations as well as food banks that would take the formula.

We don't have baby formula we have formula for kids over 1. It's for kids who can't get enough nutrition with regular food and often it is put into a feeding tube. One brand we have is flavored so that it will taste good but we have some formula of another brand that is doesn't taste good and is soley meant to be put in a g-tube. So, i'm not sure a food bank would want this type of formula since it is not meant to be used by a "normal" child. But thanks for the suggestion!
