View Full Version : Has anyone purchased the "Disney Merchandise Credit"??

I just got an email for the Disney Merchandise Credit, where you pay $395 and get a $500 merch. card (or $445 for $600 or $695 for $1000). I see the terms say:

The Credit cannot be used towards the payment of a Walt Disney World Resort hotel room night or reservation or a Disney Cruise Line® reservation, or towards the purchase of any food and beverage items, spa services and products, personal services such as face painting, hair braiding, hair wrapping, recreation activities, tours, Disney Gift Cards or Disney Dollars. The Credit is not accepted at Walt Disney World Resort Operating Participant locations, including but not limited to, China, Japan, and Morocco Pavilions at World Showcase in Epcot®, or any other locations or kiosks that are not owned and operated by the owners of the Walt Disney World Resort.

So I take it we wouldn't be able to use it on a ticket into BB for day...and basically the only things we could use it on are actual souveniers from the gift shops and DTD stores?? If that's the case I guess it's not as great as I'd hope because we wouldn't spend near $395 on that kind of stuff anyway.

Huh. I have not heard of that offer. Seems like it isn't good on the things we usually spend the most money on. If it was valid on food I might consider it! Who did the e-mail come from?

It's a Disney email.

I couldn't find a direct link to the info (just got the email about 45 min. ago), but here is a link to the terms.
http://adisneyworld.disney.go.com/media/wdw/Images2003/languagespecific/eng/nontheme/myDisneyVacation/WDWMerchandiseCreditTermsAndConditions.pdf

I see you can't use it on hotels and stuff, but it doesn't say anything about park tickets, so that's what I'm wondering. If I can use it to just get into BB one day (if we go) then I'd be more inclined to look into it.

I just got the offer too. Looked good at first until you read the fine print. Basically, other than gift/souvenir items, you can't use it. Even with the kids having saved $100 each ($200 total) I don't see us spending another $195 on those type of items. It would end up making me spend more than I would have! (I'm sure that is the plan)

Guys This URL doesn't look legit to me and the whole thing sounds kinda hinky to me, but then my name is TrustkNoOne :-) I would be curious to see the original email. You can send it to TheElphaba@aol.com if anyone is inclined to satisfy my curiosity.

It's from Disney Destinations...I'm pretty sure it's legit. I'll forward it to you anyway.

Thanks for sending it, I can't help it I am naturally suspicious. What sounded hinky when read on the msg is completely legit when you see the email.
Thank you for sending and indulging my curiosity. :-)

I purchased the $600 card for $445. It works out to a 25% discount. Anything to save a few dollars. It's only good on merchandise and not tickets or food. We have the MYW package and free dining during Christmas week and we've prepaid our photo pass & photo book so now we're all set for our trip. The only money we'll really be spending during our trip is on tips and cab fare for our ADR's.

I didn't get the email but I am hoping to if it is good on DCL. Does anyone know if it can be used for merchandise aboard the ship? I go on my first cruise in Dec. Also, how long before your trip did you receive the email?

Its a pin email, so you have to be "special" to get it. No one knows how or why someone is special on any given day. it seems Disney sends pin deals out at random. There is also a free dining pin going around now as well.

I received this offer too. Is this something new? Does anyone know if you can use the credit at the pro shop at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course for clothes?

Ok, I read the terms on the PDF and it can't be used aboard Disney Cruise Line.:guilty: Oh well.

Has anyone received their merchandise credit yet? Is it a gift card, disneydollars or credit to your reservation? Anyone used it yet?

I read on Jim Hill's website that the merch credit has no expiration - can anyone that has gotten one (or gotten the terms in the email) confirm that??

If that's the case, then it really may be worth us getting one. While we won't likely buy all that much Disney merch on one trip, if we can use it over several trips it could be a great deal! :thumbsup2

The email I received states there is no expiration date.

I purchased a merchandise credit. It does not expire. You pick it up when you check in. It is refundable up until the point you claim it.

I am still up in the air. There is no expiration date. Which sounds great but I still do not know if I'll spend that much on souvenirs

MommyBryn
11-18-2008, 12:43 PM
that's my issue, too. If they had one for less then I might consider it.

btw- the first 2 options don't make sense to me. if you get pay the $445 for the $600, you're just paying $50 more than the $395 and only getting an additional $50 credit. ??? So there's no advantage to doing the $600 card, really. Am I seeing that right?

Unfortunately there's no link for this offer. I believe it's being sent out to certain people (for whatever reason - there's not always a rhyme or reason to who gets these things) and the offer is tied to that person's name. In other words, you can't pass it along to anyone else. :sad1:

I received this email this weekend, with a PIN, that was valid until 7 days prior to the start of our trip in January. It has no expiration date, but sounds like you can only use it on souvenirs, akin to a 25% off sale at the gift shop, which BTW the Disney Store at the local mall was having a 25% off the entire store sale. So I don't see it as being a particularly great deal. BTW, if you spend $50 more to get the $600 card, you get $100 in credit, not $50. Your math was off a bit. :)

Okay, glad I went on to the second page of this thread. The no expiration date makes a world of difference.

Thanks for the heads up. Will consider it if I ever get the offer.

Discussed this with the hubby over dinner tonight, and I think we may go ahead and get the merchandise credit. If we happen to not spend it all this time, we can always save it for future trips. I don't know what denomination to get though.

Ack, tell me how! :rotfl2: This has been bugging the crap out of me!! I see you get $105 in credit with the $395/500 card, and $155 in credit with the $445/600, right? So that's a $50 difference in credit ($155-105), and also a $50 different in the amount you pay ($445-395). Right? Wrong? I'm NOT great at math, so I could totally be off. :lmao:

I got the offer and we took full advantage of it. The $500 card is sold at a 21% savings. The $600 card is sold at an almost 26% savings. The $1000 card is sold at a 30.5% savings.

I asked lots of questions before we made the decision to buy. We are thinking of buying a special piece of Disney art and then there are all of those highly addictive pins. ;)

If anything is left at the end of our stay, I will take the card with me when I go back in April on my planned solo trip.

Does anyone know if it can be used at Disney Stores outside of WDW? I'm wondering if it might be more worth it if I'm able to use any remaining balance at our store back here at home.

No, you cannot use the card at any locations out side of Disney property. I am still debating whether or not to buy it. :confused3

We will be heading down the first part of January for 10 days :cool1: , we got the offer and I think we are going to have to go for it. We have six in our party and I would be shocked if we don't spend at least $500 for stuff while we are down there. I would love to know if there are certain places in the parks where it can't be used (I know about the food).
It looks like a good idea.

I have two daughters both scheduled to go for the most expensive package at the bibbidi bobbidi boutique. I figured this would be a great oppertunity to save some money since I am planning on spending $400 on both packages.

So I have called Disney twice today.

1st time I called they said I could use thie Merchandise Credit for the bibbidi bobbidi boutique.

The 2nd time I called the person on the phone said said I couldnt use this on the bibbidi bobbidi boutique because its considered "an experience".

Sort of weird if you ask me that I get two different responses. I can't afford to make the wrong choice here. Meaning that if I get the $600 card and they decide not to let me use it, I am not prepared to pay the $400 out of pocket + the $600 I would have in the card to spend.

Just curious if anyone knows if you can use this towards the bibbidi bobbidi boutique or not??

Thanks!

Concerning BBB I would call them directly at least 2x and see what their answer is, if it's consistent both times, then you'll get a better picture. Another idea would be to email Disney and ask the question, then you have it in writing and would have something to argue with if you were denied when you were there.

I also received the same email. We leave in 12 days and I'm still up in the air on whether or not to purchase it. I doubt that DH and I would normally spend that much on souviners but since it's Christmas time, I'm sure we will buy gifts for the grandchildren. I just don't want to buy something and then NOT use it.

I would love to know if there are certain places in the parks where it can't be used (I know about the food).

I think that many of the stores in Epcot's World Showcase don't accept the Merchandise Credits and I think there may be a few at Animal Kingdom as well. Any of the stores around WDW that are not owned by Disney do not accept them. I plan on spending some money in Japan but I understand that I can't use the credit there unfortunately.

Just finally got an email back from Disney and the merchandise credit can be used for the BBB.. In this case this is a great money saver if you all ready plan on doing the BBB!

Do only certain people get this email? I receive the monthly Disney Park "Hellos" and the Disney Insider. Or is a separate email? We booked through AAA, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Unfortunately you only usually get these if you book direct with Disney. I booked direct last December and got it but when I have booked through a travel agent I never got it.

I bought the 1000 card last year and did not have a problem using it. I did not buy anything at the world showcase so I can't comment on that. I was able to purchase some snack items with it so long as it was in a gift shop. We came home with almost 400 left on ours but they do not expire so not a problem. You can not use them in any of the disney stores outside of disney world nor can it be used at disneyland or on the disney cruise line. It would be nice if they offered this option to everyone as an add on to your package. It would also be nice if they let you use them in restaurants and such. When I got home I got a survey in my email that I filled out telling them this as well. Hopefully if enough people fill out the surveys they will offer this on a perm. basis in the future. Overall we loved the giftcard. It was a good savings and allowed us to prepay which made it really convenient. When we checked in they handed us an envelope with the card in it with the rest of our package information.
