View Full Version : Will CS restaurants make substitutions for kids' meals?

I'm considering the quick service plan, but the kid's menus are very limited. For example, at Pizzafari in AK - pizza isn't on the kid's menu! It's the same at Village Haus in MK. Will they substitute pizza or are my kids supposed to watch us eat pizza while they eat pb&j? Of course, what we would do is to buy them pizza OOP, so kind of defeats the purpose of the DDP. Anybody had experience with how strict Disney is with substitutions?
Also - do they substitute soft drinks some places or pretty much everywhere? Our 9 year old is not a fan of apple juice and it's vacation - he's allowed pop once a day on vacation. Only on weekends at home.

For the kids meals, there are usually signs saying fries and soda available upon request (fries instead of the carrots or whatever they get). If there is not pizza on the kids menu, then you cannot substitute pizza from the adult menu.
Check out the menus and find kids meals they want. or as youindicate, you can supplement with OOP purchases

Pizzafari now has pizza on the kids' menu. Pinocchio's does too. And Pizza Planet, at Studios, which did not have a separate kids' menu, recently added one with pizza.
From what I understand it is a much smaller pizza than the adult size, though.

Child meals generally offer milk, bottled water, juice or soft drink as beverage options. We found this to be the case for CS or TS meals.

But, no, the Counter Service locations will not allow any such substitution as what the OP suggests.

I have a 10 year old who will be more interested in the kid's menu. Would they allow him to get the kid's food at maybe a little larger portion?

Pizza Planet and Pinocchios are from reports by posters - but I walked by Pizzafari on Monday, October 20, and they had the kids' pizza on the outside menu. I didn't go in to see what the pizza looks like (I wouldn't eat there if they paid me) but by reports on the other places, kids' pizza is about half the size of adult pizza. I haven't seen it myself.

The child meals, esp CS are set portions. Given that he is using an adult credit I think you'll have a reasonable amount of flexibility to find him items and portion size that match.
Your question is pretty broad (so many restaurants) so it is hard to be able to say a simple yes or no.

I know when paying OOP, I have done this with my daughter as she is not into the fancier foods and is still happy at 14 with chicken nuggets. I don't know why this would be a problem as they are getting paid for an adult meal anyway, so they would come out ahead...throw a couple extra nuggets on the plate, or an adult ordering a $30 steak ??? I think I know who comes out ahead here.

The OP question was about CS and I think your comment was geared for TS. I agree for TS. It's a little more difficult to gauge as those meals are a bit more pre packaged. Often the adult menu has a similar choice, but CS varies greatly so it hard to say they will all do this. Might depend on location, CM, etc. OP should have little issue at her resort CS, the park restaurants are a bit more limited in space, what is prepped, etc. Places like Cosmic Ray's and Peco Bill's are a no brainer for her "adult" 10 yo.
