Hang, visit, say "Hi!", try the 2-fer DOTD (I can dream....)
What is your favorite thing to do at WDW?
Where to start... this list is long...
Which water park would be best for our own Castaway Cay?
I think Typhoon Lagoon has the look and feel more like CC, but we love both of them so it doesn't matter.
Where are you planing on staying?
Dunno.

What are some things you would like to do? Get a chance to visit with everyone!
What is your favorite thing to do at WDW? hhhhmmmm.....
Which water park would be best for our own Castaway Cay?We've never been to any of the waterparks....... I did promise Elvis (10ds) that we would go next time.
Where are you planing on staying? The trip we have booked right now is for AKL. If we keep that trip and *add* this one to our year then I'm sure we'll pick a different resort. Maybe the Contempory?
Feel free to throw in ideas for the trip!

What are some things you would like to do? Eat, drink, lay by the pool, see some fellow pirates, go to Jellyrolls? (Never been)
What is your favorite thing to do at WDW? Eat & drink my way through Epcot! I hear a Grey Goose Lemon Citron Slush calling my name! :rolleyes1
Which water park would be best for our own Castaway Cay? I've only been to BB, but I'd like to try TL some day too, so it doesn't matter. Is there a bar? J/K of course there is! Deep fried donut holes too. Does it get any better? :woohoo:
Where are you planing on staying? No where yet! I'm waiting till the 7 month window to book our stay. Was originally thinking AKV, but if we do go to Jellyrolls some night, I was starting to think BWV since I know others plan on staying there, but DS really wants to do Stormalong Bay again so looks like BCV is winning....if I can get a 1BR! We are doing a 3 day RCCL cruise on the Monarch from the 14th-17th so we'll be in WDW the 17th - 23rd.
Feel free to throw in ideas for the trip!
Would anyone consider a Grand Gathering? I know it's a bit expensive, but just thought I'd throw this one out there & see what you all think? From the WDW website:

What are some things you would like to do?
I would like to take one of my daycare kids to WDW with me this time. I keep asking Mom each time I go and keep getting shot down. That don't stop me from keep on trying though :rolleyes1
What is your favorite thing to do at WDW?
taking a ride to Tom Sawyer's Island for some ice cream and relaxing in the shade
Which water park would be best for our own Castaway Cay?
I've only been to Typoon Lagoon back in 1992 for my honeymoon. DD always wants to go but it is either too hot (July) or too cold (Dec-Jan) when we visit. I don't think I will be getting out of it this time.
Where are you planing on staying?
Off Site - Silver Lake Resort. Just outside of Animal Kingdom Lodge access road
Feel free to throw in ideas for the trip!

Yes, Diane. I would definately be interested in that. How many people do you have to have? I sometimes see the gathering at Epcot before Illuminations and think, maybe I could sneak in and just "blend" . It's alot of $$$$, but you seem to get alot for your money..dinner, dessert, story telling & characters along with a great seat for Illuminations.
Along the same lines, would anyone be interested in a dinner at 'Ohana? I would be willing to call at the 180 day mark and make the reservations. I went there with a very large group before and it is really alot of fun.

I'll call & see how we have to go about getting this booked & let you know! If it's only 10 like Des said, then we should have no trouble, but not sure if we can all call & book individually or what. :confused3
Yes O'hana was a definite on our list so if I can join fellow pirates for dinner....even better! :cool1:

We still have not made a final decision yet but leaning toward August (less $$$). If we do go then it will be from the 12-22nd.
What are some things you would like to do? Slow down and visit each park on a non-commando pace. Last (and only time) we were there we saw a park a day and did not stop running.
What is your favorite thing to do at WDW? We don't have much experience there but the world showcase was enjoyed by everyone.
Which water park would be best for our own Castaway Cay? Have not been to either. With 10 days will try to do both.
Where are you planing on staying? More than likely we will be at the CBR. We really liked it there and meets our budget.

Count us in. We would just go for the food but when you throw in the IllumiNations show (which we have not seen) it would be a done deal.

and although haven't made reservations, Des would kill me if I don't make it so count us in. I have seen Illuminations from behind a tree so Steve and the girls and I would more than likely be in it. If O'Hana's is the one at the Polynesian, we did it a long time ago but it was only the 5 of us, so that wasn't much fun - a group - sounds like a blast. I'll keep it in mind.

We would be in for anything! Only saw Illuminations once on our first trip. We had to go back to EPCOT to retrieve Kaitlin's jacket from lost and found and watched them. Most likely we will be there Aug 16-21 or 22. Depends if we make it a road trip or not. 2 days on the road or 2 1/2 hours in the air? :confused3

hey Diane...was poking around the Grand Gatherings info on the main page, and even though the schedule has not been released yet for this August, it seems in August 2008 they only had them once a week. I don't know if this is something that books quickly (like the pontoon boats) the day it opens for reservations?

Roger -- we don't do WDW commando style! I do like to walk quickly and have a plan for the day. BUT, I learned a LONG time ago that the only person that cares for a schedule is ME. :rotfl: SO, now I have a *loose* schedule and everyone follows it so, that I don't become *testy*. :thumbsup2
This is Jon *It's my VACATION why would I want to get up early????* We get up when we get up -- I am always the first one up so I have my shower and walk down to the lobby (we stay in the Sugarloaf building in the GF) and eat breakfast. After I eat I then get a few things on a plate to bring up to Jon (he very rarely is ready to leave while the breakfast food is still out). By then the kids are ready to eat.
We have had 2 breakfast character meals (1 @ Park Faire and the other @ O'Hana's so, they only take moments to get to the resturants ;) )
We then stay at a park until we are tired or too hot usually late afternoon. We go back to our room and shower/get ready for dinner. Go to whatever park/resort dinner is at and then hang out there for a while. We are usually back in our room by 10 -- Jon likes to get a last beer or after dinner drink from the lobby before they close for the evening. About half the time we watch *Wishes* from right outside our room.
Claire is afraid of loud noises so, we've never seen Wishes from the park.
If we don't have dinner reservations then we swim at the resort and grab a counter service meal for dinner @ Gasparilla Grill.

I would rather fly. Driven down twice I-75, I-77 to I-95, not thrilling. Now I have a credit with SWA. Checked my airfare for Feb and it went down, so now I've got a credit.
We don't do anything commando any more! :rotfl: We went in July a year ago, so we know how hot it is. Just have to pace yourself.

As for the heat....yep it's bad, but we prefer to go in August, because it's a little less crowded the second half of the month & the kids have a little time to unwind before they have to go back to school. We just go to the parks later in the day when it starts to cool down & try to plan around evening EMH so we can stay really late & get on the rides without too much of a wait.

Count Dave and I in on the Grand Gatherings. We will probably use some of Heather's points to stay at BW or BC. She won't be able to be there - she's in Montreal for a convention then. So it will just be the two of us.
Typhoon Lagoon is our favorite water park. The kids and grandkids love the wave pool. The lazy river is more my speed. We usually pack a big lunch and get there early for a good (that means SHADY) spot. They do have some early extra magic hours there sometimes. That makes getting a good spot easier.
Since we will only be there for two (maybe we can stretch it to 3) days, I'll have to wait to book the room till you set the exact dates. Since we'll be using DVC Sun thru Thurs would be best for us -- less points.
Had a great F&W trip with the kids & grandkids. The beef medallions with cheese polenta was the favorite this year. Enjoyed MNSSHP but it would have been better without the rain. But the rain kept the lines down. 5 minutes wait for the cars. Of course both DD's went on with the grandkids without ponchos and it started pouring while they were on the course. They only dripped for 15 or 20 minutes. The grandkids loved it.
If you need any info from us for the Grand Gatherings reservation, just PM me.

Good evening,
I wanted to ask my fellows Diser's if they would say a prayer for people here in our areas. We are having terrible fires once again..today on our way a birthday party, we went right by a hillside burning and within 1/2 an hour - it had jumped the freeway and we were diverted on the way home. So far in our area, no one has been killed but it is just terrible to see the devistation to these homes. We are about 12 miles away so we are safe but I know that one of Tori's teachers lives within a couple of miles of where the fires are buring. I am not sure if she has been evactuated or not.
North of us there has been additional fires in Santa Barbara and in what is called the San Fernando Valley. They feel there are have been some deaths there. It is just unbelievably sad.
Anyways, if you would keep everyone in your thoughts, I would appreciate it.

Of course! Dh and I both have relatives in the area. Last year, when the fires were so bad, one of my cousins emailed pics of the ash all over her backyard. :sad2:
I felt sorry for my cousin's ds...he had only been married a couple of months and his IL's had to come stay at their house because of the fires!

That's pretty much what it looks like here too (since we only live a couple of miles apart .. obviously :) )
We were notified today that Tori's teacher is indeed evactuated. We are praying that her home is spared. The fires seem to be calming down in the area.
Going to church this morning..only about 5 miles from here (closer to the fires)..you would have thought it was snowing...people were wearing masks to cover their mouths and nose. I have a friend who lives about 3 miles from the fire..this afternoon there were entire burnt leaves floating down on their house ..and the leaves were still hot...
My sister was here this weekend visiting and goes home tomorrow..she has to take a freeway that is currently closed so we are re-mapping her route. Our home is not in danger in any way but just having difficulty with air quality. Thanks for everyone's thoughts and prayers!

Hey Kids!
Glad to hear that everyone in CA is safe. My heart just goes on to those who have lost their homes. Keeping everyone out that way in my thoughts.
Not much here. That evil S word is here! YUCK! :scared1: Our wonderful county said they will only be salting the highways, no main trunk lines, cause the state isn't paying them!
Kaitlin had band practice Sat with all the other 5th and 6th graders who are marching in the Christmas parade next Sat. They say it is going to be cold and S! They sounded pretty good--first time together. They are going to play Let's Go Blue! (HS colors), Jingle Bells and Jingle Bell Rock. Kaitlin says it is hard to play and march at the same time!
Plus she is singing before the parade and we will have to hot foot it down to the band staging area.
Miss you guys!

Thanks! Things usually go off without a hitch! Between the choir director and the instrumental music teacher, they are amazing! The kids really sounded great. I just get to listen to Kailin's part, so it was nice to hear it all together.
Here in Michigan there is just no happy medium with the weather. The 2 parades are 4th of July and Christmas the Sat before Thanksgiving. Sweating or shivering! I guess I should go look for some long johns!

Add our family to the "hopeful" list. I talked to the DM who hired me. I should be able to take a week off unpaid (since I'll just be starting out in my full time position and won't have enough vacation time accrued by that point.) We just have to look into it a little bit more and get a final answer before I borrow points to book, just in case I'm not allowed to go then.
If we do go, we'd love to do the Illuminations dinner and dessert Grand Gathering.
We'd defintely be interested in dinner at "Ohana. Once, we had a group dinner (about 30 people) at 'Ohana, which was fantastic. When it was over, we picked up some wine coolers in the Poly gift shop, and headed down to the beach to watch Wishes. They played the music there, and we got to see the fireworks from a different perspective.

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving!!!
Did the Black Friday thing this morning. Then, got suckered into taking DD and friends to the mall in the afternoon. I just picked up a some door-buster gifts for family, but mostly went early AM to get stuff for the day-care kids (I have 9 to buy for). I'm able to get really cool X-Mas and Birthday gifts for the coming year for $7-$10 each kid. Saves me money through out the year. Unfortunately, none of DD's stuff is goes on sale. I'm hoping to save a few bucks with her on Cyber Monday.
Definately could get a feel for what stores are not going to be around in six months. Some of the high end clothing stores are refusing to get into a price war and most of them were totally empty throughout the day. Sorry, for me if I can get a really cool vest for my neice for 60% off at Macy's, I'm not going to pay full price at American Eagle Outfitters. Their Black Friday Door Buster was 20%off or B1G1half off, on sweaters, which were $70 +...LAME

And just an fyi..you are one of the few people that I talk to on the phone. :goodvibes I am an email person -- although I don't talk much in my emails..... I guess I am really an *in real life* person! :rotfl2:
I feel honored......but you do keep my from talking the entire time. I actually have some competition.:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
I think the wine has finally kicked in!
I told Jon that I have changed my mind on this whole *no drinking* business!
So, now I may make up for lost time.... how many drinks do people drink in an average year?
I have 28yrs to make up - when I was 18 the drinking age here was 18. Although I did drink at a wedding reception for one of my cousins....It will go down in family history...it turns out I hold my liquer well and don't go down until after the 2nd bottle of wine........
It is a fact that you lose brain cells evertime you drink.............now I know what happened to me.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
I beat you to commenting John or Tom!!!!

Grand Gathering info:
I called Grand Gatherings a couple of times, but it took me some research to figure out what the heck they were talking about, but I think I got it pretty much figured out now? :confused3
If we want to link as a Grand Gathering, I would have to call & give my resort reservation number & then I would be given a Grand Gathering planner & number that you would all be given & then you would call & add your resort reservation number so we could be linked as a group & our planner would make all our group dining plans for us.
The problem is that some of us are not staying on-site so we will NOT all qualify for a Grand Gathering; however, I can could call & book a private party instead? I did call catering & asked about a private dessert party & it is "doable" but they won't tell me nuttin' as far as prices until I actually book it. Does this sound like something we might like to do instead? Would we want to include dinner? A cash bar? What date? Any feedback, ideas, comments???
We don't have to decide anything now & in fact I think we should wait till after the holidays since everyone is busy right now. Maybe in January we could get a roll call going with resort, dates, who's planning what, etc?
I did find a post in which someone booked a private dinner in Epcot, but it's from 2006 so I'm not sure how much has changed & how much the price has increased:
"As for private events in the parks, I went through Epcot catering and we are having a private IllumiNations party to celebrate my son's 3rd birthday on the lower terrace of the UK pavillion. Blair from Epcot catering has been an absolute doll! I got quite the bargain and a MUCH better deal then if I had gone through the Grand Gatherings people. To give you an idea, I think I am paying about $25 per person for the private party in the UK and that inludes 4 hot entrees and a few simple appetizers, all you can eat and all you can drink (soda and water only) for 2 hours + $250 for the site rental. I will also have to pay a $50 small party fee if I have less than 20 people show up but right now, I don't think that will be a problem either way.
You get a Disney security guard for your event in order to make sure that only people invited are allowed in, an event coordinator to assist with your event, and 1-2 people manning the food stations. There is even an option of allowing guests who don't have park tickets to attend your event. For $12.50 each, Disney security will escort your guests who don't have tickets to the party location starting at 1 hour prior to the party."

I love the idea of a private party, but I think the price from that post sounds a little too low. I have a price list from 2002, and it was more than that. Then they tack on a 20% (it may be 22% by now) service charge, and then they tax that total.

Another possibility is if people are not maxing out their room occupancy, they can "book" some extra people in their room, even though they wouldn't actually be staying there. At least for DVC, it wouldn't cost anything extra to do that. For example, if a family of 3 was staying in a 1-bedroom suite, they can book another couple in the room, since it can actually hold 5. Then they would be listed on an on-property reservation and could be part of the Grand Gathering group.

Yes I called & they said that anyone that links has to have a WDW resort reservation number. Of course I didn't give the dear old aunt that lives in Orlando story. You want to try it? LOL

I don't like the cold, but it is such a nice change from all the heat. It was really nice yesterday and today it looks dreary. A bit cold as well. The view from the window shows all the leaves all over the place. A lot of the trees have lost their leaves. I like the change in seasons. Off to the show today. Hi everyone!
Thought I would send an update since I am currently out of the hospital..it's been a long week and it's not over yet. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.
I thought I had the stomach flu when I left Arizona on Monday...drove home in pretty bad pain and unfortunately vomiting...I just wanted to get home. On Tuesday..it didn't go any better and I went to the ER..turns out my gallbladder is full of stones but the bad party is that all 3 of my ducts were completely blocked with stone and I was turning yellow due to my liver starting to fail. I had a procedure on Wednesday that took care of that and a stint put in. I sat in the hospital until yesterdy waiting to have surgery to remove my gallblader. Unfortunatly, after 4 days in the hospital..I was advised that my local hospital no longer takes our insurance! :scared1: (I already have a bill of over 37K!) This will be a fun fight as they were required to nofiy me immediately. Anyways...I was discharged without the 2nd surgery and will now go to a new hospital next week that does honor the insurance. (They just dropped my insurance a few months ago and we had gone there several times before) Anyways...I am hoping that I do not have much pain until I can get the surgery and then I will go in during Jan or Feb and have the stint removed.
That's it in a nutshell!

I was thinking the same thing. It's their job to know if they accept your insurance.
If you can't get away without paying the bill, tell them you'll pay no more than 15% of charges. They should jump on that considering most hospitals don't collect on non-insurance bills.

Yep Tom's right, the Swolphin is considered on site so you'd be eligible for grand gatherings. Anyway there is more than one family "off-site". We already have stuff planned, i.e. dinner at O'Hana, night at Jellyrolls so no big deal if we don't end up doing a dessert party. We could always just plan another meet somewhere else. We'll find out more when I call to get prices in January or February.

It would be great to have the date for the dinner. I already got the 16th off just because it was a Sunday and extends my weekend. I work 17,18,19 and am off the next 3 days Thurs, Fri And Sat. The dates are still open even if only for getting time off at night.
When they were building the Swan and the Dolphin, Chad and I were on our way to Mickeys xmas party one night. There were no lights at all around the construction of the hotels. The kid freaked out when we passed them as they looked like some Tim Burton apparition in the dark. He saw the outline of that fish against the dark sky and ducked down til we got thru the gates. It was scary looking. Poor kid was having trouble sleeping after that.

Grand Gathering info:
Hi Diane...I know I had looked into this some time ago and I seemed to remember that a percentage of participants could stay off-site, so I called to see if the rules were the same or had changed since the last time I looked into it.
According to Jason at Grand Gatherings, you need to have 80% of resort guests participating. For every 8 resort guests you can have 2 off-site guests.
I really can't change my ressie off-site, so if I can get in on the evening, that's great, but if not:sad1: , I wouldn't wany anyone to change arrangements on my account.

The weather has finally changed for the better here. Yesterday woke up to 39 and cold. Hope it stays this way.
I heard that show is awesome, I wanted to see it last time we were in NYC, but it was not apprpriate for DD who was 11 at the time
Hi everyone,
I will be going to the Dr. tomorrow to hopefully find out when my surgery will be. I am hoping it will be this week.
Anyways..on a vacation note..where is everyone staying? I need to know where I am switching my ressie to in Jan. I am planning on either BCV or BV with a lean towards BCV.
I hope you feel better soon, Desiree:hug:

Hi All
A little behind on the thread - got some ST issues cutting into my DIS time.
Just wanted to post that JetBlue has released their booking schedule for August and the prices aren't too bad
I can just hear the DVC police now! :goodvibes
So sorry to hear you are having ST issues. Hope all is well!
Thanks so much for the heads up on Jet Blue!!! I didn't expect them to open their dates up already. Anyway, I just booked our flights down at $94 each, but our flights back on the 23rd are already up to $154!!! :scared1: Oh well, they will only go up so glad I grabbed them! :thumbsup2
The 80% may be true, but I spoke to Josh at Grand Gatherings & he stated that everyone had to be staying on site & in fact he even suggested I talk our off site guests into staying on site! He stated that in order to be included in the activities you had to call with your reservation, so I don't know how that would work. Again it's all in who you talk to at Disney, they never seem to get their stories straight. :sad2:
Anyway, you are not the only one off site, I believe Arlene lives close enough that she just drives over. Not that it matters, because I don't think it's something we absolutely HAVE to do. I will look into booking a private party & if that ends up being too expensive, we'll look into something else or maybe just add people onto some reservations as Mike suggested or call & try to get someone who will stand by the 80% rule? Lots of options, but I think we should only do something that everyone is welcome to be a part of. :goodvibes

Thanks! And thank you for the card..it was very thoughtful! And it made me laugh because that's how I feel.
Update: Well..it has finally been scheduled. My surgery is next Wednesday. It had been very frustratiing..for one because of the diet I am on..I am getting crabby because I am hungry all of the time and I feel weak. But I am dreaming of a pizza when I get home from the hospital! :)
My surgeon goes on vacation on the 18th and his schedule was full to do surgery but accordinging to him..I have to have this done ASAP....so you can see my frustration mixed in with the whole last hospital mix up.
Anyways..the nurse worked at it and I am in...please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers...they are appreciated.

 Been there/ Done that! If it makes you feel better...at some point they do actually grow up and move out! LOL!
Although I have a 10ds that anyone is welcome to! Because I seriously may slap the daylights out of him at any moment!
He is exactly like his older brother and I really don't know how he lived to see adulthood!
When he was in college he sent me an email telling me how much he appreciated his dad keeping me from killing him!!!! He went to college about 4 1/2 hrs away from here....it was safer for him. I couldn't hit him from that far away. ;)

Tori had just turned 10 when she figured out the Easter Bunny and Santa..she was on the fence for about a year but since Richard and I go all out..it was difficult for her to decide..we do the footprints thru the house and everything. I still made her write a letter to Santa this year so I knew what she wanted. I told her..no letter..no extra gifts from Santa. She wrote the letter. She has been wanting a dog and so this year we decided to give in. We keep saying once we finish traveling but we never seem to finish traveling :lmao:

Hi everyone!
I am home from the hospital and attempting to sit up for a bit. The best part..I had a real sandwich today! The offical weight loss with my exciting diet was 17 pounds in 2 weeks..I'll take it.
The surgery went great. No complications and my other procedure will be in Feb/March to remove the stent. I should feel back to normal by Saturday or Sunday.

I know that some of you know this...But, would y'all keep my cousins' children in your prayers?
A cousin, that is younger then me, died in his sleep last night. They don't know why.
His 10dd went to wake him up this morning and she found him. :sad2: He also has a son that is around 14.
My cousin was the Godfather of my youngest child. So, this is one that I was fairly close to --- I have ALOT of 1st cousins...even more then Tom. ;)
My cousin lives in MO (an hour West of St Louis) so, I am not going to be able to go to the funeral. Even forgetting that it is Christms week, I just can not leave my brother right now.
Speaking of my brother......he had a set back this afternoon. His red blood cell count went back down again and the Dr can't figure out why...SO. Another dr is being called in to see him tomorrow.
This is really disappointing to Greg since he had been told this morning that he could come home tomorrow. Now he is going to be in the hospital.
This is going to seem trivial but, his dog is also dying and it doesn't look like he is going to make it much longer....... We just really NEED for him to hang on a while longer...... I just don't want this to be one more thing that Greg has to deal with....
Greg's S/O is taking care of the dog. I do not *do* dogs. I did go buy the dog *stuff* (diapers -- he is having *issues* now that it is close to the end-- and food) but, I don't take care of animals if I can help it.....

I am not a dog person either (actually..against my better judgement...it has been a long time coming but on Christmas - we will be surprising Tori with the fact that she is finally going to get the dog she has been asking for) but for any animal to be passing away just breaks my heart.
Steph what a very difficult holiday season this has been for you! I am so sorry to hear about your cousin. How very very sad! I will keep his family & your brother in my prayers. Hang in there!
I'm so sorry to hear about about your cousinn. We'll add him and his family to our prayers. We'll continue to keep your brother and your whole family in our prayers too.
I know it may sound a little weak, coming across the internet from far away, but if there is anything that we can possibly do, even if it's just give you an ear to talk to, please don't hesitate to ask.
I hope that today is brighter for your Brother. I continue to pray for your family each day!
Thank you all so much. It really means alot to me that I can post/vent here.
Jon listens to me but, then he wants there to be a *fix* he can do to make everything better. ;) And I know how upset he is about Greg being sick.
And when REAL tragedy hits (like my cousin dying) Jon makes jokes. Yes, they are funny.....and sometimes that is what you need to break the sadness up. I know he does it as a self protection thing -- so, that he doesn't break down.
And I don't want my younger children to be upset (or to see me get too upset) so, I don't say much when they are around --- are mine the only children that ALWAYS seem to be around???
Thanks again. And if any of you have prayer request send them to me! I have quite the list going --- I keep lists for everything because I am always afraid I will forget someone/something!

Tina,
Jon & I were woke up about 4am also.....Because ouy 2 youngest kdis were fighting! ACK!!!
Elvis was mad because he didn't see Guitar Hero World Tour in the gifts. And instead of just being grateful for what he had -- he got the Lego Mindstorms NXT!!!! He was being a jerk to Claire - why????? So, she started hitting and kicking him! UGH! Samantha was trying to break them up.
We separated everyone and sent them to bed. ;)
And then when we got back in our room I turned to Jon and said *The ONLY thing you had to do was go out to the 1 car garage and get the GH World Tour box and put it in the Family room!!!* I had already set everything up -- the Santa gifts, the stockings, etc...... I'm even the one that bought/ordered EVERYTHING. He turns to me and says *I forgot.* :confused3 WTH????
I even picked out and bought the gifts for his parents!!!

Oh dear Steph. You really have your plate full. Sometimes we thrive on it but this time of the year can be overload. I know.. At l;east you are not taking care of the dog.

Thanks for the story, tell Jon I'm laughing, feels good with everything else going on.
;) It is a funny story.
The kids had only been asleep about 3 hrs (they stayed up talking until 1am.....) and once everyone went back to bed and then woke up around 9am...they were in much better spirits. ;)
Claire siaid her Christmas wish was that her and Elvis could start the night over and not fight. :thumbsup2
Elvis ended up being very happy with his gifts -- we knew he would be! And then Jon was able to sneak the GH World Tour stuff in without anyone noticing. He even put it in a location that would look like it had been there all along and the kids just didn't see it!
 to you. And lots of prayers!
Oh dear Steph. You really have your plate full. Sometimes we thrive on it but this time of the year can be overload. I know.. At l;east you are not taking care of the dog.
Bad news is that I am taking Greg tomorrow to have the dog put down.....the dog's tumor is now invading his intestines and he is not comfortable even with his pain meds. :sad2:
My kids have 2 versions of that and my DS has the Rock Band. But that is something I go thru all the time.He probably walked right by it as well.:goodvibes
This makes the kids GH collection complete.....Oldest dd & her dh have Rock Band. And they have brought it over many times to play with the kids. So, it was a natural as the *family gift*. :goodvibes
Claire was happy since they also got the High School Musical dance game w/dance pad and the Disney Sing-It game. You can tell that my kids are performers, huh?

Ahem.....
A certain someone (to remain unnamed) has taken it upon herself to step up a harassment campaign to get me to commit once and for all to this trip.....
(please, you had no way of knowing, don't feel bad, its just easier to 'splain all at once to the larger group)
All of our plans took a real big hit this past weekend. It will be some weeks before we can say anything about trips, etc.
This past weekend, my MIL lost her mind, literally and very suddenly. She was wandering around the house Sunday trying to plug the dog control collar charger into the cell phone charger, couldn't figure where the super volume button was on the remote control and then was explaining how her camera phone was interfering with her blood pressure monitor (she doesn't have one) -- she spent hours doing these three things --. Needless to say, this freaked my disabled/wheelchair bound FIL out. She refused to go to the hospital and the paramedics couldn't force her to. It took several hours of my wife, FIL and BIL to convince her to go. MIL spent Sunday till yesterday in hospital. My wife has been there since Sunday and will probably be there through New Years. Last night I spent an hour trying to convince MIL that the heat was working fine as she stared at the thermostat. It took my wife and BIL over hour and 1/2 to convince her to take meds tonight (sinus infection, heart, etc.) since she was convinced they were working with the doctors to poison her.
We are not sure what is going on: med interaction? alzheimers? some other dimentia?
So, we are on hold for all kinds of planning, etc.
If she doesn't recover and come back to reality, we will have to move them into assisted living somewhere as my FIL can't live without help and she can't help as she is. Plus, she can't drive like this.
Anywho, thought I would let y'all know what was happening before I make ya feel bad when you come to harass me.

I got some good news!!!!! this is John, Cheryl is back amongst the living, she never got out of bed yesterday. We still are not sure what she had, but she did not look good Friday night. As soon as she got off the phone with Diane it started. We had gone out for a Christmas Story dinner (Chinese Dinner) on Christmas day, we think it could have been something she ate there. Anyway she is alive and well, and soon to be back among the posting. Hope everyone is having a great holiday so far.

HI All :wave2:
UGH - I made it through in one piece. There's a reason we usually go on vacation for Christmas :sad2: . Let's just say, when it comes to DH's and my family - The Walton's, we're NOT!!! Petty, mean and :snooty: . I've learned to count my blessings each day and that's just not what I care to be surrounded with - especially at Christmas!
In reading the posts, I just want to say how sorry I am to hear of the difficult times some of you dealing with right now....
Stephanie - My heart goes out to you  My deepest condolences on the passing of your cousin. There is no way to prepare for something like that. Have they found out what happened yet?
I'm sorry your brother is having so many problems with his treatments. And then to have to put his dog down on top of it all.... :sad2: . You are in my Prayers.
Congrats on your 'Lil Bundle on the way - THINK PINK!!!!
Tom - As others have said, I hope it turns out to be a drug interaction and/or something that is treatable. I can't imagine how scary that must have been for Ellen and your FIL. My Dad had a similar reaction in the hospital when he was given Ativan. He thought the nurses were trying to kill him and left the hospital AMA. It was all VERY real to him. How is she doing? Please keep us posted.
Desiree - Glad to hear things went well and you are on the mend :thumbsup2
Cheryl - Sorry you had to spend the day in bed with the Heebi-Jeebies, but glad to hear you are feeling better. Just an FYI - the stomach flu (Norwalk) is running rampant around here so it may not have been something you ate.
Mike - Thanks for thinking of us during the storm. We didn't get hit as bad as some areas. We lost our electricity for about 24 hours and had some minor damage to the side of our house from falling trees. My brother, who manages an estate in Lancaster, MA (just south of Leominster/Fitchburgh, which were the hardest hit) just got his back Saturday. He said the entire town looks like Armageddon. He was lucky to have a generator, but many can not return to their homes even now because all the frozen pipes have burst inside the walls. Very sad.
Diane - Luv Ya!!! Hope you had a Merry One!!!!
I have the week off because of no school and am going to get my tree down and decorations put away today. Hoping to rent and get my carpets cleaned Wednesday/Thursday while the 'Lil Buggers aren't around. They are killing the carpet in my front entrance.

Thank you. Right now they are thinking it was an aneurysm. The autopsy results won't be back for a couple of weeks.
I'm sorry your brother is having so many problems with his treatments. And then to have to put his dog down on top of it all.... :sad2: . You are in my Prayers.
He has an appt tomorrow to see if they are going to change up the chemo drugs. Then he has chemo after the appt and on Wed. We'll see how it goes this time!
He is also hoping to have his oxygen by tomorrow. It should make it so that after walking from his bed to the couch he doesn't need a nap!
Congrats on your 'Lil Bundle on the way - THINK PINK!!!!

So after my last post, things with my MIL went very downhill. Overnight Friday she walked around the house unplugging everything because "they were stealing my electricity." While not a big deal generally, when she got to the oxygen generator that my FIL uses when sleeping, that was a problem (probably not fatal). Since DW was there, she was awoken by the alarm on the Oxygen generator and got up to see what was goint on and quickly plugged it back in.
Saturday started with an unsucessful four hour battle to convince her they were not trying to poison her and she needed to take her meds. She refused to eat or drink also. Finally late in the afternoon they got her to agree to go to hospital, although she had to be almost dragged to the car. She was admitted and sedated Saturday night after accusing her family of conspiring with the doctors to kill her. She refused to get on the bed in the ER as they would kill her is she laid down.
Sunday was a day off for everyone. She was kept sedated most of day. IV providing most of nutrients.
Monday she was up and alert in bed. They gave her an anti-?? (depressent, psychotic? some sort of drug that helps with mental illness) and it brought her back to her prior reality. Unfortunately, she has had a long held belief that "mental health" and "psychology" is a bunch of hogwash and spent most of the day telling everyone she was a cardiac patient and didn't belong in the psych ward. She also says she won't take and of the sham medications the hogwash peddlers want her to, so its somewhat of a stalemate. Hopefully they can get her to a health point that the drugs are the only issue remaining.
But, its a wait and see.

Tom I am so sorry! Thank God DW was there to hear the alarm! At least your MIL is where she needs to be right now so they can run some tests & find out what is going on. I will continue to keep her in my prayers.

Seems the onset may not have been so "sudden"
DW cleaning out house has found caches of food in places (whole cabinets in dining room full of beans, etc. and full of creepy crawly critters)....
Also some other unusual findings throughout house....
Right now it looks like we have temporary arrangements for care of FIL and MIL will be in residence at some sort of facility until things are better nailed down.

Steph, we go to fire up Guitar Hero and the cd/dvd will not play! It plays the other games but not that. Now I gotta figure out what to do as dd has already put stickers on the face plate! Plus it was from SC :rolleyes1 and he got it on sale in Oct! Sorry you got awoken up to a fight!
Hope your brother is doing well.
We are doing good. Being lazy to the point that I forgot what day of the week it was!
How weird about the GH game! I hope you are able to get that squared awy soon!
We'll know soon if the new treatment will help him feel better -- since the CT scan was so good they are going to cut out the drug that they think is causing the red & white blood cells to go to 0. Since right now he has a better chance of dying from some infection then from the cancer.
The Dr told him that taking the chance again on letting his blood cell count to go to 0 was like playing Russian Rulette.......
I love the fact that you are getting this cahnce to just be *lazy*!! :goodvibes

:grouphug: I hope that it is not too difficult to find someplace for them. Do they live close to y'all? You know that we will continue our prayers. I think this deserves an extra decade being said tonight.
This will quite possibly be one of the most emotionally draining things to go through. If you ever need to unload...... you have my numbers.
And I am totally freaking out for Ellen!! Coming across creepy crawlies :scared1: Of course, I think she is probably pretty fearless. She lives in a house with 2 boys. ;)

My buddy Josh down the street told me that I can go online or 800 number regarding GH. He's 14 and is into all that.
I'm trying not to be so lazy, but it has been great!
Tom, prayers to you and your wife. Wow that's scary. Hope things get better soon.
Well as this New Years Eve is upon us, my fortunes have improved! I have been childless since 8:30 AM this morning! Long story short Katie was invited to a New Years Eve sleep over at a friends house and on their way to their way to their dad's (it's a divorce situation) they picked her up to help with the planning and set up! Of course now I'm all alone and left to my own devises! :rotfl2: Now who I'm I gonna hug at midnight? :confused3
I just want ya'll to know that I am so glad I got to meet you guys and the cruise was so much fun. I love talking with you too!

Just a thought, but maybe we could start a role call of who is staying where & when in another month or so? That should make it easier for any group reservations or meets we are planning on. :yay:

A new Mexican/South American restaurant will be opening in DTD in the spring featuring 50 kinds of tequila & 10 specialty margaritas. Yum!

The Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It! Street Party will begin in the Magic Kingdom in mid-February. Floats, disney characters, stilt walkers and other performers will parade down Main Street, U.S.A. toward Cinderella Castle where there will be a 10-15 min dance party with many Disney Characters dancing to songs such as I like to Move it & Breakout.

Hey folks, just popping in to see where the DVC folks are staying. Is there any one resort everyone is trying to get? (or got?) Haven't read through the thread yet, will do that later tonight.
Since DVC just switched from trading with Interval to trading with RCI there is a very slim chance that I may be able to snag a studio or something. If not, we'll be offsite. But don't get all excited yet, I still don't know if we'll be able to make it or not. I'm going to put a request in with RCI anyway to see if anything DVC comes up.

Monica...not a SLIM chance at all. I was just able to book a 1 bedroom at Saratogo Springs for the two weeks . All the resorts show up, but only SSR was available for August. If you have a decent trader you may be able to see some of the other resorts for August. Also, I would not wait to get a roll call - if you see them in the bank - I would GRAB it, because those prime weeks won't last long! I would have preferred BWV, but I will certainly settle for SSR. I'm shocked they are there at all.
If you need any help with what's showing I still have vacations weeks in the bank with RCI that I can help in letting you know what is still available.

Thanks for the offer. I have another week that I can play around and search with. The problem is my resort doesn't have much trading power. It's a red week but not a great resort.
I did enter an ongoing search for check in Aug 14, 15, or 16 at any of the DVC resorts. We'll see if something comes through. I'm also working on getting my mom to bank her week and letting me us it to trade since she's got more trading power. Mary Ann & Monica are actually talking about RCI, which DVC has just changed to using for non-Disney destinations. Since they own at RCI, they have to grab whatever becomes available as a trade-in at DVC. Since it's new, I imagine it's very popular. Not that I understand exactly how that all works either since I've never traded, but I hope to trade into RCI one of these days. I've always wanted to go to the Grand Canyon, Niagra Falls, Las Vegas, etc.

Question for Mary Ann - where is your home resort? Just curious what kind of trade was made. My resort is in Texas, not very desirable. But my mom's is in Lake Tahoe whice may prove more valuable.
I actually own 4 units at three different resorts - all are in South Africa. Two are on the beach, one of which is in Durban next door to Ushaka Marine World during prime season. Those two units are the ones allowing me to pull DVC. My other two units are dog traders in RCI and would never see DVC.
BTW, I trade in RCI Weeks, not RCI Points. My understanding is that each side is seeing totally different inventory come up for DVC.
Why South Africa you ask.....stumbled upon it when I was researching buying Timeshare. At the time I purchased my timeshare (2003) the US Dollar was 10:1 against the SA Rand, which is the currency I pay dues in (are you following all this, Cheryl ;) ). Some years the exchange rate works out great for me (in Oct it went to 11.25:1) and sometimes not so great.
Lake Tahoe, depending upon the time she owns, should be strong enough to see DVC, providing there is something to see in RCI trading bank.
With RCI, when it comes to trading, it's all about supply and demand as opposed to II (the company DVC used to trade with) which was all about quality. I have a standard resort in SA, but it is in a very sought after area/vacation time so it boosts my trade power, but even given that, I was suprised (pleasantly) that I could pull DVC.

Back on topic, any activities planned? Fireworks cruise? Grand Gathering? Pub crawl to see each resort??
We are waiting a few more weeks to see who has confirmed and then start planning activities. Hope you are able to join us!

You could become a DVC people! :)
I could just not tell you the room number and see if you can make out the scent or rum and diet Sprite :lmao:
It depends what flavor of Rum. I have discovered a whole new world out there instead of Mike's now. :lmao: :lmao:

Thanks for looking out for me!:worship:
Always have to watch out for my children.!!;) ;)
That's OK, when people talk about points, use year/month, borrowing points and so on, I have no CLUE. Except for Maintainence dues....that I am very familar with. :goodvibes
I will just say old age set in and that is my excuse.:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Thanks MaryAnn

So the MIL situation (and I can't make this stuff up....)
After last update, she was transferred to Alzheimers section of a local nursing home where she continuted to have delusions about killing babies and other out there stuff. She's in the nursing home about a week when last Monday (10 days ago) she suffers seizures late in the day and is rushed back to the hospital. My DW is besider herself, but my BIL is there and reports several times on Tuesday that MIL is in one big seizure state, staring at ceiling but body twitching. Given that she doesn't seem to be there at all, DW decides to stay home and let BIL handle. Wednesday DW gets call from BIL, he just left MIL room in hospital. When he and my FIL got there on Wed, she was sitting up in bed, eating (which she hadn't been for 3 weeks), talking and wondering why she was in hospital with no recollection of last two weeks. After considerable conversation, there are no signs of delusions, etc.
Thursday, Friday, she is still lucid and all there (or as much as she was before....). Saturday she is discharged home. Despite the battery of tests, they can't find anything to explain the last few weeks. The theory they ended up on was a bad reaction to the generic of Wellbutrin. Apparently this type of delusional behavior is a rare, but reported side effect. Also, Wellbutrin withdraw may include involuntary twitching, etc. Turns out the Dr. in nursing home has started to discontinue a number of her meds as she was on quite a few from the guesswork of the last two weeks. One he stopped was the Wellbutrin generic.
Of course, can't just end there. On Monday, my BIL goes to house to take FIL to his monthly Dr. visit. While there he picks up phone, its local police, wanting to know the names of the FIL grandchildren. After he gives them the names, they say "what about Christopher XXXXX." BIL replies, "Funny you should ask, he's napping in next room, he's our home health aide (for FIL handicap)." They say thanks and hang up.
Five minutes later, several patrol cars pull in and block driveway and team of officers come to door and arrest the home health aide. Turns out he has been robbing my in-laws blind. Jewelry, clothes (stole my FIL pajamas), etc. etc. He attempted to pawn a ring engraved with my FIL name and the police doing routine pawn shop checks decided to check it out. Apparently the number one culprit in this type of incident is the Grandchildren, hence the questions.
So MIL is home and seems to be better, although she has lost probably 50 pounds in the last three months or so, so she is a little frail right now.
We will see.....
Thanks for all your prayers, wishes and thoughts.:grouphug:

I'm hoping that this is the end of Ellen's Mom's current issues and that she can get back to normal. We'll continue to keep her and your family in our prayers.
I'm also glad the home health aide got caught. I doubt they'll recover much, but at least he won't be taking anything else.

After three weeks up North and three weeks with the house loaded with family I am finally starting to dig out. Just catching up and have to say I hope everyone will have a better new year. We will be adding you to our prayers.
I haven't booked our room for August yet. I am waiting to see just what dates we want to be there. Since I am borrowing two nights from DD's DVC I want to wait to make sure I book the right ones. But from the DVC standpoint Sunday through Thursday would be best for us. DH only has a couple of vacation days not already scheduled. So I'll be watching for the best dates for us to book. We will probably try for BW or BCV. We just stayed at BW and AKV during the holidays and both were great.
We were lucky enough to spend Christmas and the 26th and then the 30th to the 2nd at WDW with the whole family. They put on the New Year's Eve fireworks at the Magic Kingdom both on the 30th and 31st so we were able to see both the MK and Epcot celebrations this year. The girls rated MK the best for the show itself and Epcot for sheer volume. I took my DGD back to BW before the fireworks on New Years Eve and the window to the balcony was actually vibrating during the finale. Our BW room faced the courtyard and they had a DJ and dance party going on until 1 AM. It seemed like everyone was having a great time.
Enough rambling, the only news that I have is that American Idol at Hollywood Studios is openings on 2/14. They are having a FL resident and passholder preview before. I can't remember the exact dates. They were holding the cast preview this week. Since only my son-in-law can carry a tune we'll be just spectators for that one.

Welcome back Barbara! Sounds like a great New Years! We went for the millenium celebration & again a few years later, but I think it will be a while before we get back to WDW again for the holidays. It's just so expensive to fly that time of year so maybe it will be when we retire to Florida in about 10 years.
If you want to book Sunday thru Friday & join us for some activities, try for August 16th to the 21st. :thumbsup2

I'm going to try for BCV. Right now I can only book two nights (that's all the points DD has left). So I'm going to try to arrange it to be there 17th thru 19th. DH is already off Monday and Tuesday and we can tack on one vacation day. We can always try to rearrange or he could suddenly have one of those mysterious Disney viruses come up if there is something planned for another day. What are sick days for -- why waste them when you are actually sick.
Airfare during the holidays is really expensive. Next year is our year to fly up to PA for Christmas. This year DD and her family drove. She is a teacher so has the time and with the cost of gas it made sense. Although she hates the 18 hours in the car, the cost of 4 round trips made it the only logical decision. The grandkids were great on the way down, but the 3 year old wasn't so cooperative on the way home.

We used to drive, but it got way too stressful & as much as I hate flying, it's only 3 hours of stress compared to 24! My kids were always great in the car, but DH & I....not so much!

That is my MIL...... When oldest dd, myself & MIL went to Las Vegas American actually decided (after we told them that one of us HAS to be with MIL the entire flight) to have all 3 of us sit in different parts of the plane! Luckily there was a honeymoon couple that they had split up and sat one next to dd & one next to MIL.

Actually Xanax does make me sleepy, but honestly I wake right up when one of the kids asks me something or the flight attendent comes around with drinks & snacks & then I'm back out again. Everyone's different, but Xanax doesn't make me "out of it" just sleepy. When the plane lands, I'm wide awake & raring to go without that woozy feeling that Nyquil can give me. :confused3 I imagine the average person could take one & feel sleepy but still functioning. I'm not average....I have a very high tolerance. I can't imagine why? :rolleyes1 :lmao:

That's understandable, but you'll be okay. It helps me to think about the millions of people that fly safely everyday 365 days a year. Plus I've read threads about the fear of flying on the transportation board & there is a lot of encouragement & some books that were recommended. I'll never enjoy flying, but I do it & you can too!
