View Full Version : Did you "upgrade" anything b/c of the deal?

I'm posting a poll because I'm just curious if anybody else changed their original plans because of the deal.
By "upgrade" I mean, you are either staying longer (adding days), switched your location or room type, staying onsite instead of offsite, etc.
So I guess for the poll answer:
"yes" if you did change something
"no" if you're just saving money now
"other" if it didn't impact your reservation, you're now staying offsite, now waiting to go at another time or anything else
I know that we were toying with either staying offsite or at a moderate. Now, with the code, we're staying at CR so this made a huge difference for us since we've always wanted to stay there.

We ended up giving up business club level at CSR for standard rooms at AKL AND we saved $700 between the two OR about $1100 off rack rates (incl. the gift card) so I think we did pretty good! Because the club level rooms weren't discounted, in order to save ANYTHING (since no rooms were available in any of the mods) we had to upgrade

We also upgraded because our original room was not included in the discount. We still saved $1250!

My original AP room rate was a better deal, so I kept it. Did not use the new deal so selected "other" on the poll.

Went from POP to CBR. CBR was my very first choice but I really didn't want to spend all that money at rack rate. I upgraded and still saved $300 plus got the $200 GC! :goodvibes

We stayed at AKL Club level, but added a day at the beginning with dining (we were going to stay originally at POP for a night room-only). We still saved $1100 even with the extra day with the meal plan for 2 people.

We had to switch to a premium room at ASMovies from a standard at POP, so I said yes, but it wasn't by choice.

Yeah, we were orginally only going to go for five nights, with only two days of tickets. Now we are going for the full seven. Probably will be upgrading tickets to no exp., and maybe WPF&M and use them on another trip.
I did. Original plans were CBR 6 nights. I changed them to Poly for 7 nights!! I have never stayed at Poly before. I couldn't resist 3 free nights!!:)

I was tempted, and admit I still am. Last year we stayed at Pop and loved it, and this year upgraded to POFQ. I am still considering Poly or AKL, but keep thinking "We were happy at Pop, are saving money and staying at POFQ, we only really sleep, swim and shower there, why not just save the $$ and use it for food?".

You'll be happy at POFQ, and then you can upgrade from there! That's what we've done... steps up each trip.
We went from AKL standard conference rate of $238/ nite to AKL savannah for around $330/ night, but after being upgraded for free last year from standard to partial savannah, I don't think we'd be happy with anything less. AND, we have one-day tickets included that DH can use since I'm an AP. Ultimately, we're spending more above the conference rate, but it's spring break week here and I wanted to make sure we got a savannah room for sure.

I got the Poly. Original plans were to stay at POP this year and figure some way to stay at Poly next year (probably a split stay). Now I can afford the Poly for the whole vacation. DH & I are so excited. :yay:  :woohoo:

We were booked at CBR for 1/19-1/26,but with this deal we upgraded to the Contemporary Garden Wing/ Garden View. I've always wanted to stay on the monorail and I figured I was never going to get a better price!

I'm an "other." I didn't upgrade. Instead I'm using some of that savings and adding a few days to our trip. And still coming out a little ahead. :goodvibes

This is contingent on our TA actually getting on the change before the promo rooms are gone, but this is our plan: Originally 5 nights POR with dining plan and 3 nights BC without dining. We'll now stay all 8 nights at BC with dining plan and 8 day base tickets.

Same dates, same 7 nights at Poly GV with same 7 day hoppers. Saved $1430 over our AAA discount of $398. Total off rack--$1828. Over 35% off rack. Easter week. Works for me.

We were originally doing 9 days at POR and had to 'downgrade' to POP when our water heater went out (the savings was enough to replace it). This deal saves me $450, which I got to feel good about for a day till a bill came in from our lawyer for $500 (city's trying to steal our land to widen a road).
So our disney savings has allowed us to replace the water heater and pay the lawyer:lmao: if it hadn't been for those we would have switched to poly.

While I do see the new offer as a deal, it doesn't beat free. :rotfl2:
I am blessed to have a loving partner who travels for a living. Most of the month, she lives at the Hampton Inn, Doubletree, or the Hilton. Therefore, she has lots of Hilton Reward Points banked at the moment. She also knows that I need my pixie dust, so she very sweetly has offered to share her points with me so that I can get my fix. ;) We are going to book a room at the Hilton for me. I already have tickets, so other than gas, parking, tips, food, and a MP&PP ticket, I will be all set to enjoy a week with my main Mouse during the F&G Fest the last week of April. I should be able to go and have a blast for about $1000. While it's not a Disney hotel, I will still have access to EMH. :thumbsup2

I was originally staying at the YC in a waterview room with the deluxe dining plan, but have now changed because of the deal to the BWI CL - I've stayed there before and loved it so I'm more than happy. I've dropped the deluxe dining plan as I was starting to worry anyway about fitting all the meals in, I'll just now have breakfast in the lounge, a snack for lunch and a TS for dinner OOP.

I kept what I had which is CSR with an AP rate for 5 days. Staying longer I could have gotten 2 more "free" nights but at rack rate and I would have ended up spending more $$$ on the room and food.

We upgraded. Originally had WL standard view room booked and now because of the deal we are staying at the Poly garden view. The money we saved off our WL price afforded us to stay at the poly for almost the same price.

We are still at Pop, but saved so much on rooms, we added DDP. With the $200.00 GCs, we still saved over $500.00, on three rooms for our party of 10:woohoo:

TA just applied the discount to our existing reservation at Poly. $1,100 savings from the AAA discounted package.
When I originally couldn't get through to my TA, I did try to book it on my own but could not get the same room type and would have had to upgrade from GV to LV with a $400 saving. I would have kept this one if my TA could not have managed what she did.

Well this is a bit complicated...
Yes we upgraded first from no trip to a trip in February. Then we decided that May would be a better time to do a stay over at WDW since it'd be around my Birthday.
So no trip=trip in february at ASMU= changed to May and upgraded to the Grand Floridian!!!
We saved $1500 over a package that wasn't part of the 4/3 deal and are paying what CBR cost us 2 years ago and we get to try the GF for my Birthday (my dream resort)
So it works for me!

I am sticking with my original plan: 9 nights CSR with 8 day hoppers. I saved $731.51 off rack (including the gift card). Adding in our airfare, food budget, tips and town car transfer, I figure we will come in right around $3500.00. Our last 10 day trip came in about $5K (2 nights Swan, 7 nights at AKV studio savannah on points w/dining plan), so I am feeling pretty good right now.

I upgraded. We switched form 6 nights at WL Woods View to 7 nights at the Poly (both with dining). We saved $50 off our AP rate, plus we'll get the $200 gift card and one day tickets that we'll use next year to upgrade to APs again.
I also moved up our summer trip. For the first week we switched from GF to GF CL (SL). I still have BC for the second part of the trip (non-discounted). I'm hoping that the response to the first part of the year is so good they extend it!

Yeah...we weren't going to, but we eventually decided to take advantage of the 3 free nights and spring for a hotel we wouldn't normally be able to afford - so now we're staying at the Comptemporary, where I've always wanted to stay. I'm very excited to say the least!

We loved doing a split stay last May between the Poly & POR & it was my best vacation ever. We decided a full 7 nights at the Poly because of the great rate. Besides, we're lucky enough to be doing a quick POR Christmas trip this year. Seven nights at POlY with a 7 day ticket came out $1400 cheaper than with no deal.

We always upgrade our hotel and/or package once deals come out. But not this time. We originally booked a stay at AS Movies and that is where we will stay! No upgrades this time. We will take our savings and be happy with that!

we actually added the DDXDP and an extra night making it 8 nights and the DDXDP for not much more than our FD bounce back scheduled in Sept 09........we were going to upgrade to PO or CBR but decided that we truly dont spend a lot of time at the hotel, Feb is not the greatest swimming months so pools arent that important to us and we have a pool at home............so we are taking the savings with an extra night so we have 8 nights to do WDW without commando style.......................:cool1: I hope ASMo is as nice as ASMu was this past sept...............anyone love ASMo?

We switched from WL to the Poly. We are gaining three one-day tix (which we will apply toward AP's) and the $200 gift card for a price difference of $339. We are actually saving about $100 net by switching.

We originally booked POP in August for a 6 night/7 day vacation in January, but decided after a couple of weeks that we would upgrade to POR. Then, I got all dreamy :cloud9: about WL, and hoped to upgrade if a great deal came out.
Then whaddya know, a great deal DID get released! :cool1: And I wanted to upgrade soooooo badly!!
In the end, though, DH and I thought it was better, considering the uncertain economy, to take the savings ($688.32 all totalled  ) instead. And then we went out this weekend and bought a shiny new snowblower. Being from Canada, that seemed like the best use of our money!! :lmao:
Hopefully POR will not disappoint! :flower3:

I was originally booked on a sports travel package (room discount) for 6 nights and 6 day park hoppers for $1117.29 at All Star Sports for my 2 kids and myself. The dining plan was not available to us and the meals that I had planned so far would have been over $600 OOP.
I have now upgraded to the promotion with 4 nights/2 free, preferred location at All Star Sports with the deluxe dining plan, for $1910.66. I figure that I am coming out ahead, because I will get the $200 gift card, have my meals and snacks paid for ahead of time, have over $200 in Visa reward dollars and 6 months to pay off the remainder of the package. Also our original flight time was changed by Air Tran and I was able to change to a later flight home at no additional cost so we now have 7 days of park hoppers.
1910.66
-1117.29
793.37
-200.00 gift card
593.37 The out of pocket cost for the deluxe meal plan.
So far I have ADR's for: Crystal Palace (B), Chef Mickey's (S), Chef Mickey's (B), 1900 Park Fare (B), Tusker House (B), CRT (B), Narcoosee's (S), 50's Prime Time (L), LeCellier (S), Yatchtman's Steakhouse (S), and then 5 counter service meals.
Also one nice thing was that I was able to cover the $200 deposit with the credits I received from cancelling the sports package (return of $100 deposit) and now that we are on the deluxe dining plan the payment that I made at CRT will be credited back (Over $99) and we now have a credit card guarentee.
I think that I was able to come out ahead.
Now I am hoping that DD does as well at her gymnastics meet that we are coming for.

WhoooHooooo!!!!!!! I was originally disappointed that I was not going to be able to enjoy all 7 days because I already had my airfare booked and it would have been $300. to change all three of our flights to the next day. So I only booked 6 days on my package at Pop. When I was checking on my flights the other day I realized that they had changed our seats on our flight coming home. They had changed the plane to a smaller one, we had row 40, and this plane only went to row 38. So it finally hits me 2 days later, don't they have to waive the change fee if they change your flight? So I called this morning and they were able to change the flight to the next day!!!!:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: The only thing is Pop is sold out for that extra day so I will have to add aroom only. :sad2: The only room only I can find is at CS and it is $168. Good thing I got the 7 day tickets instead of the 6!!! :surfweb:

I voted "other."
DH has a BIG birthday in March and he wanted to go to WDW to celebrate. I have no problem with that. :-D
We've been to POR before; it's one of our favorites! We've always dreamed of GF, but it seems like it's just a bit too far out of reach for us, still. So I've been researching and thinking about upgrading to BC or BW. I waited for a "deal" before booking, and we had layoffs in our office just last week. Things at work are still "Level: Cautious!" So I really didn't want to push the limits... just in case. So while I priced BC and would have saved quite a bit over the non-"deal" price, I'm playing it safer by booking POR.

I said yes
I say we upgraded, some may say we downgraded.
We were booked at WL CL w/dining for 6 nights, the 4/3 deal couldn't be applied to our room, so we could pay full price or change it. We switched to 6 nights, garden view at the Poly w/dining and saved over $800 not including the $200 gift card:woohoo: So technincally we're saving over $1000 by staying at the Poly :yay: We're super excited

we downgraded in order to upgrade.
We moved from 2 rooms @ CSR (5/9-5/16) to 2 rooms @ POP (3/26-4/2) and added 3 nights at CR
With the $200 (x2) GC, we still come out ahead

We gave up a 1 bedroom suite at the CR which was not covered in the plan for 2 garden view rooms at the GF. Plus we went from 6 nights to 7. And saved $4250, even with the change in airfare. We love the CR, but I could not justify spending that much more. (We have the DxDP too.) Can't wait to go! :goodvibes

We upgraded!!! Originally, we were going to stay 4 nights at Yacht Club and 6 nights at Dolphin.
With the 7/4 deal, we have 7 nights at Yacht Club, and 7 nights at Wilderness Lodge!!!
I'm going to try to (partially) surprise my DD - if I can hold out! She's really excited to be going to Yacht Club for 4 nights - she doesn't know that we'll be there for 7 nights!! She can't wait to try SAB! And, at WL, I booked a courtyard bunk bed room! She'll be so excited!!!!
Now if only I can keep the secret!!! :rolleyes1

We were planning to go in Oct for 5 nights, but are now going for 7 nights in March for the same price (before the gift card)! DH has only been on a HS band trip and I have been 3 times, but never for 7 days and I am super excited!

Right now i'm sticking with a mod...but REALLY want to try Poly....there is no way i'd be able to afford/justify it otherwise! I am going to wait and see...may add the upgrade closer to trip time!

We were originally staying at POP from 1/28--2/1/09. After the new deal came out I wanted to take advantage of it so I did some scouring of things to figure out how to make it work.
Ended up adding one night. Literally we will arrive at 11pm on 1/27 now. Charge to change airfair was $200. With the GC I figured it was a wash but we would then get the whole day on the 28th rather then a half day.
So it in the end seems to work for me!

Our first trip in 15 years and 1st trip staying on-site:cool1: . We were going anyway and already booked at POR thru AAA but upgraded to YC plus upgraded our tickets from 5 days to 7, which I'm soooooo happy about:love:. It's costing more money (From $2950 to $3,650) :rolleyes1 but oooh Deluxe:lovestruc - I never thought I'd be able to afford it. We're 5 so I was worried about POR being crowded. I thought about Poly because of the bigger rooms and the monorail, but it was $200 more and I've heard the YC pool is waaay better (which is what my kids care about). I really wanted BC because of the recent refurb but they were all booked so I've got to keep checking back.
