Hi There!

I had a couple of questions regarding the California Grill, and I KNOW the Dis is the place to turn to! I hope you can help me out!

We decided last minute to schedule an early Dec 2008 trip (last week!). We're staying at the Contemporary for two nights, and I managed to grab a reservation at the California Grill for 9:25 on a night of the Christmas Party. The MVMCP fireworks will be at 9:30.

There are four of us, two adults and two older kids.

So, here are the questions:

1) If we are not seated by the time fireworks start, do you think we'll be able to go out to the observation deck and watch the fireworks from there?
(we will be showing up early, by about 9, just in case we can get in early)

2) I heard mention of a special place to sit, perhaps like a counter, where you can see into the kitchen? Does anyone have info on this? I know our son would LOVE this, as he loves cooking and cooking shows! Would it be possible for 4 people to sit here? Would requesting this prove a problem if we wanted to see out the windows? Can see from the counter?

Any info you can help out on would be great! Thanks in advance!

Can't answer about eating at the counter but you can absolutely go out on the deck if you arrive early. They will give you a pager and then escort you up the elevator.

You can request the counter when you check in. And 4 people can sit there.

You can't really see the firewworks well from inside unless you are at or very near the windows. If the show starts while you are still eating, just get up and walk out with almost everyone else to the observation deck. You can resume the meal when show is over. It's what we always do now-in fact, we never bother to request a window table any longer.
