Hi Everyone!
I've been talking to Geef and Lugnut33 about putting together another DIS Meet. We'd love to see everyone who came to the June meet, and of course it would be great to meet more DIS-ers! :thumbsup2
Once again Disney's Doorway to Dreams, the DVC store at the Woodfield Mall, would like to host us. Those of you who attended in June know how fun it was and how nice the Doorway to Dreams cast members were. We had a presentation and a tour of the models of the AKL villas, refreshments, pin trading and a general pixie dust fix! If you hunt around, there's a great "trip report" with pictures and comments from the meet. (I'm sure someone can provide the link!)
This time Doorway to Dreams would like to host a breakfast meet for us, before the store opens. (We're thinking around 9am ish on a Sunday.)
WHEN: Sunday, December 7th, 9am-ish
WHERE: Disney's Doorway to Dreams, Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg IL
Who: Come alone, or bring your family! Of course, kids are welcome!
Why: Because it will be fun! The DVC store will be festive, with it's holiday decorations. Also, the new Bay Lake Tower Models will be open by then!
The other date option was December 14th - but we know some people will be at Mousefest. (Take me! )
Don't be intimidated about going to the Mall in December! We'll be arriving before the other stores open so parking will be easy. After the meet, you can go Christmas shopping or visit Santa. (There is a Disney Store in this mall.) And if anyone has an idea for anything else, please feel free to suggest it! For example, if anyone wants to shop after the meet, then meet up later for lunch, speak up!
For now I need an idea of who's interested. I have to give the DVC store a general headcount. Please comment on this thread if you are interested so that I include you in the count!
I hope to see you there! :yay:

The Official "I'll Be There" list!!!
ATTENTION ALL LISTED BELOW!!!
8 AM I REPEATE 8AM - The Time Has Changed due to early mall hours.
I was just contacted by the Doorway to Dreams group, and they need to get the First and Last name of each of the Guests, as well as how many Children and the ages of each.
Please send a private message to “Geef” (me). This info will be shared, ONLY, with “Disney Doorway to Dreams” (as of 11/24/08)

Woot! I'd love to go again. I didn't get a chance to see the models a few weeks ago, so it's nice to have them in my own "backyard". :thumbsup2
I'm glad you didn't pick the following weekend, because I'd still be in California that day.

I'll keep watching this thread to see which day you decide on. I'm going to be at Woodfield either Nov 22 or Dec 14, so there's a tiny possibility these might coincide.
My dates will be determined by the outcome of IHSA football playoff games.

Wow your life is horrible... having to give up a day at a mall getting to look at a video of WDW and a pretend hotel room.
I sure feel bad for you... having to spend the day in EPCOT. :headache:
We'll be thinking of you suffering through the day :rolleyes1

I live in the south burbs and I didn't attend the earlier meet, but I think I would like to come to this one and meet everyone! I can't be 100% sure at this time as it is the holidays and it might be hard to get out of family obligations, but I would like to come very much!

I'm hoping I can make it, but it all depends on how my church kids are doing on their Christmas play. They're all kicking some major hiney now, so I'm hopeful that I can skip church that morning and meet youse guys...
So put me down for two...myself and a friend of mine who's a big a Disney freak as we all are, but has not yet been introduced to the Dis. I think I can convince her to join me... :lmao:
Our last Chicagoland Dis group meet was documented by "Tiggerbell". It has a great rundown of the events, fun and people that were found!

Yay! Our first DIS meet!
We live downtown but we drive out to Schaumburg a couple of times a month to see my parents. (Schaumburg was my hometown... It's just funny to me that we're having a DIS meet at "my" old mall.) But seriously, I understand that it is the mall with DVC, so what better place to have a DIS meet! :woohoo:
Thanks to DVC for hosting us. That is nice of them!
Parking on December 7th shouldn't be too bad... But at times when it snows in late December and crowds are so bad that you have to park near the business buildings up on the hills facing JCPenney's and Nordstrom (you know, behind the official Woodfield lots): that is a pain! The covered parking lots at Nordstrom and Lord & Taylor are extremely coveted that time of year.
There's just the two of us Disney fans. We will see you soon!
The meet is going to be before the mall opens (9am), so there should be no parking issues at all!
See you soon!:cool1:

You might want to check on those times. We make a trip up to Woodfield to Christmas shop every year and I believe the hours are different during the Christmas season. I would expect them to open earlier. I know Sat evening they are open until 11 PM.

I spoke with Woodfield security this morning, she said the will be opening at 10am on Sundays... This will change closer to Christmas.
Thanks for the idea.

Very nice area... Janet (Nooskin) could speak to this better than I, she still lives in the area. Schaumburg is a nice community.
As for hotels... check the Woodfield site...

There are a lot of hotels in the area- especially right there around the mall. Off the top of my head I can't think of any to tell you to steer clear of. Most of them are well-known chains and not that old. I'd avoid the Hyatt across from Woodfield as they are doing some major renovations right now. As far as price- I doubt there will be many super- low rates at that time of year. Woodfield Mall is actually quite the tourist destination- especially at Christmas time!
I'm so pleased to see so much interest!
I'm always worried that I'll throw a party and no one will show up!
And Geef- thanks so much for everything you're doing. This is going to be another crazy week. I'm going out of town again later this week. (WDW for Christmas shopping- :cool1: )

I've never felt that there was any sales pressure... just information, and fun times to be had. And they invite you back for more fun every time they have an event.
The anaversary party was a lot of fun; AK drum group, Park musicians, Giveaways, The Fab 5, Food, etc.

Ok, so I'm SOOO excited to go to this!
My name is Julia and I went to the Anniversary presentation at Doorway this past summer in the hopes of landing a trip. I was so bummed that all around me people won door prizes and the trip went to a family that had been to WDW 6 times already! I mean, I was happy for them- but sad too. And the incentives they had BLEW ME AWAY! I was also bummed because I hadn't had any idea that they would have a play room and I could've brought my DD!
I hope they have something good this time incentive-wise, I'm making DH come w/me. I got an email the other day w/ 5-nt stay w/minimum purchase of 220 pts.
He's resisting but I'm trying to lure him w/taking the kids to Rainforest Cafe afterwards and the Lego Discovery Center.
Yay! A touch of Disney Magic at the beginning of a cold Illinois winter!
I would LOVE to meet with the Chicagoland DISers. However, I, too, will be at WDW December 7th through December 12th.
Let me know when you do the next one. I will be there if my schedule allows.
Enjoy yourselves!

Maybe!!! I know a few ofyou from the Chicago thread or the BSC (HI, Julez!). Looking forward to seeing more of you! My last meet was to see "Cars", so that was a while ago, huh?
Does anyone have any ideas where to get together for lunch/dinner? Maybe some time inbetween would be better if there is going to be a large crowd.

When I went to the "Cars" meet, we ate in the food court. Not fancy, I know, but that way everyone was able to get up and move around and not worry about being too loud. You know what a wild bunch us Disers are!
I don't think Woodfield has a food court.

Geef, what about checking out the place we ate at last time. It was nice because we had that whole room to ourselves. For some reason I'm drawing a blank on the name of the restaurant. Maybe we could check into that again.
And no Woodfield doesn't have a food court, just different restaurants all around the mall.
Can't wait to see everyone in 3 weeks.

Does anyone have any ideas where to get together for lunch/dinner? Maybe some time inbetween would be better if there is going to be a large crowd.
Just to throw some ideas out there:
There is a Cheesecake Factory and Rainforest Cafe in the mall. There's also a Stir Crazy, Red Robin and Ruby Tuesdays. Directly outside of the mall there's Chevy's, Unos and a Fridays. And of course there are dozens of restaurants when you get out of the mall area.
I guess it depends on how many people are going to stick around and meet for lunch/dinner. If it's a large group, there will be difficulty getting into any mall restaurants together and seated together. If it's a small group staying and meeting later, it won't be as hard.
If it is a large group, I'd like to suggest this option outside of the mall: On Golf Road there's a Fuddruckers- it's big enough that we should be able to all sit near each other, it's not expensive and everyone takes care of their own bill so no problems with splitting the check up 30 ways! Sure, it's not gourmet but if you squint your eyes you can pretend you're at the "fixin's" bar in Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe! :lmao: Of course, there's always Gino's again, if they have that room available.
Just some ideas! :thumbsup2

I DO! I have an extra Jack!! I'm bringing it to Ty-Ry who is going to give it to Tiggerbell!! So, there you can do your dance!!

Geef, I'm honestly not sure if I can make it there by 8:00 a.m. I am coming from the south burbs which would mean an extremely early wake up call around my house to get there on time. I'll do my best, but is there a penalty for being late?? I may have to reconsider...

Looking forward to the meet but I'll have to take a pass on food after. Just got home after being out of town for work all week and there is so much i have to catch up on at home.
Well... Gino's doesn't open till 4pm... Lou Malnati's said they would only give one bill (we would have to split it up). So... I gave up and asked AaronMickey to help me. Jason took the bull by the horns (or pizza by the crust :confused3 ) and here, we, go!
Uno's is right next to Woodfield. They are glad to have us and have reserved a section for us. They said we could order off the regular menue, or... (I'll just quote from Jason's message)
...She told me about the party platter, but also stated that we could all order seporately as well... she just seemed nervous for our poor waitrer/watress
The platter sounds like a good deal, and I'll give you the rough version of it:
13.00 a person (20 people min., but the whole group doesn't need to do it) which entitles you to:
1 large deep dish per four people
1 salad per person
1 order of breadsticks per person
1 vanilla sundae per person
unlimited soft drinks per person
So,
How does that sound?
And thank you to Jason for the legwork! (ear/finger work)

The Uno's party sounds great and they do offer original Chicago style pizza. I was just there last Saturday in fact; the location is excellent, the food's great, and as a Chicago resident, I prefer it overall over Gino's East.
(To anyone out-of-town, we also love Lou Malnati's, but I understand that they cannot bill everyone separately, and their local home-like restaurants are really not conducive to larger parties.)
The two of us still plan to be there! Yay for a first DIS meet!

Thanks all for planning this event this morning. It was a lot of fun. Really appreciated talking with you and all the other DVC veterans there. We joined today and are now ready to call BLT "home".
Kids had a great time too. Looking forward to the next "meet" in Woodfield. Maybe the BLT studio will be ready then.
Can't wait for Spring Break, to go "home" to SSR!
Thanks again!

Welcome Home! My husband was sitting next to you today! Congratulations again...
We had a fabulous meet! Thank you to all who were involved in the preparation especially Geef - and he gave a great solo of the Christmas tune too! LOL!
We headed into the mall afterwards and John bought me some H20 products..we intended to head to lunch, but I have just sooo much work to do home here today, well we decided we needed to get back home.
Did anyone else purchase or add on points today?

Missed the meet this morning. I just couldn't make that drive in this cold- I'm so useless in the winter. For 9 I might've been able to swing it but having to get up before 7 on a Sunday was just too unbearable for words.
DD was disapointed too. Keep us informed for the next one though!

I'm sad facing over here. So sorry I missed it!
It was a wonderful time and it was great fun meeting people. A special thanks to Geef for letting me know about it! I met so many people that I still can't remember everyone's name, and I'm glad we had the name tags while we were there!:lmao:

Sorry I could not attend, but with losing my job this past week, I wasn't really in the mood and it was better that I didn't put myself in a "retail" mall type establishment! ;)

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear about your job.
I had a great time at the meet and lunch. Todd's daughter was cracking me up by being a Junior Server in Training. She was most solicitous with the straws and menus.
Thanks Todd and Janet! And Laura...you're a ham and you know it. ;)

First DIS meet, and yes, we enjoyed it! Thanks for welcoming "Dr. Dave" and I to the group yesterday!
The DVC staff at "Doorway to Dreams" were very friendly, informative and generous with their time. I thought their presentation was professional, low-key and had just the right amount of breaks in it, including giveaways. No one was condescending toward us for being "Disney freaks" as I had feared; instead we were received with support and positive recognition for posting our views on this larger Disney community.
We enjoyed talking to Vicky , who is with the DVC, while the group tours were underway. Did anyone notice the Swarovski Mickey face on her black furry wrap? The pin was about an 1" tall. It was classy and just adorable... I am going to look for one the next time I'm at the parks.
The new Bay Lake Tower model is really beautiful. We would like to see the new BLT Studio model when it opens next week. Of everything in the current BLT model, we LOVE the bench that can seat the entire family in the kitchen; who would ask for a chair when they could sprawl comfortably on a bench? :D Some of the Bay Lake furniture and decor resembles the more modern style of items in our own home! It's clear that this tower, like the gorgeous villas for AKL, will be a wonderful addition to the Contemporary resort. We will be visiting the DVC store again to follow-up on our meeting.
It was fun to see the prizes given away to DISboarders: congratulations to all of you who won! The DVC CM had some fun gifts (like travel blankets and travel mugs) for winners, which he pulled out of the cabinet under the flat-screen TV. Magic!
It felt like we all won something, didn't it? My fiance and I wore our lanyards to the meet, and the DVC CMs gave each family a few pins to take home, whether DIS members had a lanyard or not... that was one of my favorite parts of the event.
Also, a big thanks to Geef for taking the initiative to encourage Disney-related stores (my favorite of the bunch was Lego) to donate gifts to our meet -- just brilliant! That aforementioned soap really does smell like the "Burning of Rome" scene from Spaceship Earth. Most of us could smell it around the room before it was even unwrapped.
Overall, Geef and Janet did a great job putting this event together.
In the DVC take-home goodie bag, there was a Geef-inspired coupon for an additional 25% off at the Disney Store. This was a strong incentive because The Disney Store was offering a 50% off sale on many of its items already. :teacher: Not surprisingly, The Disney Store was filled with DISboarders after our DVC event; you couldn't walk more than 20 steps without running into another member. The staff at TDS also asked a few of us about the DISmeet and if we were DVC members yet; it was neat that they acknowledged where we had been all morning.
We almost didn't go to the DIS lunch since the commute back home was rather short, but we are SO GLAD that we did! For those of you who didn't attend, the food was great, as always. I was just at Uno's last week with my friends, but I didn't mind returning for the flatbread pizza and fries. (A little quirky but I order fries with almost everything.)
Our other favorite part of the meet was having a chance to sit down with some of you at Uno's. We really enjoyed these more personal conversations, and it feels good to know that there are others who understand and appreciate our love for Disney. I look forward to finding you all on DISboards, listening to the podcast more regularly (as advised), and we hope to see you again. We walked away with some excellent Disney, DVC and tax law tips. :cheer2:

Thanks for the laughs, and we'll see you at a future meet -- Dr. Dave and PrincessMonkey
Hi it was great meeting you princessmonkey and dr dave and hope those tips helped you guys. Yes my girlfriend noticed the pin right away and asked her where she found it and said next time we go she will have to look for one. We currently are thinking about mid to late Feb to take advantage of the Celebration day.

I would like to thank everyone for making our first DIS meet super enjoyable, too!!:grouphug:
It was well worth the drive. Hopefully, next time won't include a snow squall. :goodvibes
I do wish we would have been able to make it to lunch as planned, but Crea:dog: & Pepin:dog: made that not possible.
We were impressed by the Doorway to Dreams store. I don't know why, because when Disney does something, they usually do it right.:thumbsup2

We are only looking at AKV or BLT... with the edge going to AKV (I love it there, and it's cheaper). We are also looking at the resale market (the PodSquad approved one, of course) and may go that route if financing is better. We just aren't sure right now, but all signs are pointing to a big, hearty "Welcome Home" in our near future :goodvibes
To repeat what my wife already said; I really enjoyed the lunch as well, and we hope you can make it on the cruise!

Chicago was fun, at least what we saw of it. I would love to come back and actually see some of the city. Ride the train thing in between the freeway..Visit Michigan Ave...the Sears tower. I guess 22 hours in the area just isn't enough!:rotfl: :rotfl:

Hi all-
Sorry it took me awhile to post, been busy.
It was nice to be at the Dismeet last Sunday:cool1:
Got to meet some new DISers and chat with some that I have known before.
(Geffric and Dan Murphy).
I didn't stay for the lunch part, just the Doorway to Dreams part.
Geef and everyone that planned this Dismeet, thanks! :woohoo:
